Morphing structures are structures that alter their shape and size upon application of a stimulus. This field has been of interest to numerous researchers all over the world due to its advantages over conventionally used materials. Most reported morphing studies are confined to aerospace applications and studies conducted specifically for automotive applications are limited. This paper discusses morphing technology applications in automobiles particularly with popularly used smart materials like Shape Memory Polymer, Shape Memory Alloy, Elastomers, and others. It also addresses systems such as sensors and actuators required for morphing structures to function. Some morphing applications in an automobile have been covered. Some research in the morphing of aerostructures can be incorporated into the automotive industry, so an attempt is made to correlate the findings of aerospace research to potential automotive applications.

Recent industrial revolutions cause bauxite mining activities across the globe to become notably more active. However, ceasing bauxite mining activities left bauxite mining sites barren without any vegetation, causing environmental and health problems, such as dust and red muds. Existing remediation techniques such as physical separation, incineration and chemical precipitation may increase risks of additional contamination or be more costly; thus, there is a need for greener and more feasible method such as phytoremediation. Phytoremediation and revegetation may help to make the barren lands to become green again with lower costs. Researches on phytoremediation technique to solve environmental problems in Malaysia are still limited but show great potentials. Works and researches on phytoremediation for rehabilitating bauxite-mined sites has been successfully conducted across the world, showing promising futures for barren bauxite mining sites in Malaysia. This study summarizes the general scenario of bauxite mining activities and the potential of phytoremediation, focusing on reclamation of bauxite-mined lands.

The current research presents the exploration of coloring potential of neem bark under the influence of ultrasonic treatment. It is found that good color strength is obtained when tannin from bark is extracted in acidified methanol medium and is used to dye irradiated cotton fabric. New shades and good ratings of fastness were obtained when optimal fabric was mordanted with herbal biomolecules where excellent rating has been obtained after bio-mordanting the fabrics under optimal conditions. It is concluded that US treatment being green tool in natural dyeing has a great potential to isolate colorants from plant sources under mild conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shape memory polyurethanes have been prepared from polycaprolactone diol, 1,6-hexanediol and 4,4′-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate. The structural identification of the final polymer was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The thermo-mechanical history was studied using thermo-gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and shape memory testing by tensile cyclic loading using a temperature controlled chamber. The absence of any peak corresponding to functional groups of monomers confirmed the completion of reaction. The thermo-grams showed a gradual decrease in the thermal transition with increasing crystallinity, with corresponding increase in the molecular weight of macrodiol used as soft segments. The highest value of shape recovery of the sample (PCL, 4 000 g mol−1) obtained was 96%, and retention up to 85%.
