The article discusses a study on the prevalence of murine norovirus (MNV) infection in mice in laboratory animal facilities in the Republic of Korea. The study evaluated 745 murine sera obtained from 15 animal facilities using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). A total of 6.6% of inbred/outbred mice bought from commercial vendors were found seropositive. About 9.6% of in-house colonies and 27.0% of genetically modified mice (GMM) were also found seropositive. The infected animals were homologous with MNV-4 based on the results of partial gene amplification of fecal isolates. The study also confirmed the presence of MNV antibodies in mice housed in barrier-maintained facilities.
