In this research, it is aimed to examine the relationship between the attention skills of children regarding auditory and visual elements and their science process skills. In addition, these skills were examined in terms of gender and socio-economic level variables. The research is designed in survey model and the study group is consisted of randomly selected 156 children aged 60-72 months attending preschool education institutions in the 2018-2019 academic year in Istanbul. Four data collection tools as Demographic Information Form, Preschool Science Process Skills Scale for 60-72 Months Old Children, Listening Test and Concentration Test for 5-Year-Old Children were used in the research. As the result of the research, it is found a positive significant relationship between the visual and auditory attention skills of the preschool children and science process skills. It was found that the science process skills and auditory attention skills of preschool children did not differ significantly with gender. However, visual attention skills differed with gender of the children and this difference was in favor of the girls. Additionally, attention skills and scientific process skills differed with socio-economic level of the children and this difference was in favor of the upper socio-economic level. Background: Short and long ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring with different systems is a widely used method to detect cardiac arrhythmias. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel monitoring device on cardiac arrhythmia detection.Methods: We used two different protocols to evaluate device performance. For the first one, 36 healthy subjects were enrolled. The standard 12‑lead, 24-h Holter monitoring and the novel single lead electrocardiogram (ECG) Patch Monitor (EPM) device (BeyondCare®, Rooti Labs Ltd., Taipei, Taiwan) were simultaneously applied to all subjects for 24 h. The quality of ECG data acquisition of novel system was compared to that of standard Holter. The second phase included 73 patients that were referred from our outpatient arrhythmia clinic for evaluation of their symptoms relevant to the cardiac arrhythmias. Advanced algorithms, statistical methods (cross-correlation method, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Bland-Altman plots) were used to process and verify the acquired data.Results: The overall average beat per minute correlation between BeyondCare® and standard 12‑lead Holter was found 98% in 33 healthy subjects. The mean percentage of invalid measurements in BeyondCare® was 1.6% while the Holter's was 1.7%. In the second protocol of the study, prospective data from 67 patients who were referred for evaluation of their symptoms relevant to cardiac arrhythmias, showed that the mean BeyondCare® wear time was 4.7 ± 0.5 days out of five total days per protocol. The mean analyzable wear time was 93.6%. The water-resistant design enabled 73.5% of the participants to take a shower. 7.3% of participants had minor skin irritations related to the electrodes. Among the patients with detected arrhythmia (40.2% of all patients), 29.6% had their first arrhythmia after the initial two days period. A clinically significant pause was detected in one patient, ventricular tachycardia was detected in four patients, and supraventricular tachycardia was detected in 15 patients. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation was identified in seven patients. Three of them had their first episodes after the second day of monitoring.Conclusion: BeyondCare® Patch was well-tolerated and allowed prolonged time periods for continuous ECG monitoring, may result in an improvement in clinical accuracy and detection of arrhythmias by cloud-based artificial intelligence operating system. Background: In this study, molecular biomarkers that play a role in the development of generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP) are investigated using gingival tissue samples through omics-based whole-genome transcriptomics while using healthy individuals as background controls.Methods: Gingival tissue biopsies from 23 patients with GAgP and 25 healthy individuals were analyzed using gene-expression microarrays with network and pathway analyses to identify gene-expression patterns. To substantiate the results of the microarray studies, real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to assess the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of MZB1 and DSC1. The microarrays and qRT-PCR resulted in similar gene-expression changes, confirming the reliability of the microarray results at the mRNA level.Results: As a result of the gene-expression microarray studies, four significant gene networks were identified. The most upregulated genes were found as MZB1, TNFRSF17, PNOC, FCRL5, LAX1, BMS1P20, IGLL5, MMP7, SPAG4, and MEI1; the most downregulated genes were found as LOR, LAMB4, AADACL2, MAPT, ARG1, NPR3, AADAC, DSC1, LRRC4, and CHP2.Conclusions: Functions of the identified genes that were involved in gene networks were cellular development, cell growth and proliferation, cellular movement, cell-cell signaling and interaction, humoral immune response, protein synthesis, cell death and survival, cell population and organization, organismal injury and abnormalities, molecular transport, and small-molecule biochemistry. The data suggest new networks that have important functions as humoral immune response and organismal injury/abnormalities. Future analyses may facilitate proteomic profiling analyses to identify gene-expression patterns related to clinical outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Preeclampsia is a serious disease and a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity. Red blood cell distribution width (RDW), a measure of anisocytosis, is used as an inflammation marker in hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Although the relationship between RDW and hypertension has been well documented, the association between preeclampsia and RDW is not clear. We aimed to investigate the relationship between RDW and preeclampsia and its severity.Materials and Methods: One hundred eighteen pregnant women with preeclampsia and one hundred twenty uncomplicated pregnant women were included in the study. Blood samples for routine CBC and RDW levels were analyzed.Results: The RDW values were significantly higher in preeclampsia group compared with the control group (15.23±1.96 vs 14.48±1.70, p<0.05). We also confirmed that RDW levels were significantly higher in severe preeclampsia group than mild preeclampsia group in subgroup analyses (15.08±2.07, 15.92±1.99, p<0.05).Conclusion: Our study showed that there is an association between RDW and preeclampsia and also its severity. RDW, a marker which is easy, inexpensive and calculated as a part of blood cell count, can be used as a significant diagnostic and prognostic marker in patient with preeclampsia like the other cardiovascular diseases.
