Natural disasters, such as tsunami, claim lives of many coastal residents every year. Therefore, tsunami evacuation drills are important for costal residents to survive tsunami. We developed a tsunami evacuation drill system that enables participants to evacuate and move to a shelter while occasionally glancing at a map-based tsunami simulation on mobile devices. The system has the following advantages: (1) a practitioner can easily customise the simulation, (2) the simulation can be displayed on a web browser and (3) the participants' evacuation routes can be recorded and displayed on the simulation system. We conducted a preliminary comparative experiment with 18 university students and found that the developed system was accepted more by participants using a tablet rather than by those using smartglasses. Recently, the object-oriented programming language Java has been used in many practical systems including enterprise servers, smart phones, and embedded systems, due to its high safety and portability. Thus, a lot of educational institutes have offered Java programming courses to foster Java engineers. In this paper, we propose a Web-based Java Programming Learning Assistant System (JPLAS) using the test-driven development (TDD) method, to enhance educational effects of Java programming by assisting self-studies of students who have studied the basic Java grammar while reducing teacher loads. In JPLAS, a teacher first registers a Java programming assignment with a statement, a model source code, and a test code. Then, a student writes a source code by reading the statement and the test code, such that the source code can be tested automatically at the server by using JUnit, a tool for the TDD method. An Input validation can be a critical issue. Typically, a little attention is paid to it in a web development project, because overenthusiastic validation can tend to cause failures in the software, and can also break the security upon web applications such as an unauthorized access to data. Now, it is estimated the web application vulnerabilities (such as XSS or SQL injection) for more than two thirds of the reported web security vulnerabilities. In this paper, we start with a case study of the bypassing data validation and security vulnerabilities such as SQL injection and then go on to discuss the merits of a number of common data validation techniques. We also review the different solutions to date to provide data validation techniques in ecommerce applications. From this analysis, a new data validation service which is based upon semantic web Technologies, has been designed and implemented to prevent the web security vulnerabilities at the application level and to secure the web system even if the input validation modules are bypassed. Our semantic architecture consists of the following components: RDFa annotation for elements of web pages, interceptor, RDF extractor, RDF parser, and data validator. The experimental results of the pilot study indicate that the proposed data validation service might provide a detection, and prevention of some web application attacks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the frame of the three years Socrates Comenius 2.1 European Project VccSSe - Virtual Community Collaborating Space for Science Education (http://vccsse.ssai.valahia.ro, project nr. 128989-CP-1-2006-1-RO-COMENIUS-C21) a web system was developed. This system represents a set of hardware and software components which assures the necessary support for all the activities proposed to be undertaken during the whole life of the project. Started in October 2006, this project has the main objective to adapt, develop, test, implement and disseminate training modules, teaching methodologies and pedagogical strategies based on the use of virtual instrumentation and to promote the cooperation between different European teaching and educational institutions to produce and disseminate training materials that will assure the technical and pedagogical elements with the view of implementing in the classroom of the virtual applications through Information and Communication Technology tools. Having in view the project objective, a multilanguage cooperative learning environment based on web was developed. This web system integrates three major components: the project web-site, the e-learning platform and the groupware platform. The web site is developed using the Perl programming language. At the same time, a set of controllers was created for the communication with the other two major components: the e-learning platform and groupware platform, both of them being developed using the php programming language. The set offers the access to the databases (one for each main component) on a MySql Server and to the file repository stored in the system files of the operating system (Bîzoi et all. 2008). Before starting the third year of the project, on the 1st of October 2008, the following instruments were developed as applications of the VccSSe web system: e-Space Browser, e-space uploader, on-line tool for web page translation, on-line tool to update the English content on the web page, project member register application, specific forms for assessment tools, products matrix, products matrix updater. Particularly, the web system is focusing on: the architecture of the web system, the hardware configuration, required software tools and libraries, strategies and methods for building the VccSSe web site, software applications used as components in the web system, developed software as components in the web system and security aspects of the system.
