Countries are facing interconnected and cascading crises, including COVID-19, climate change, wars and military conflicts, and disruptions in geopolitics. To address these global challenges, it is necessary to introduce eco-innovations, and implement renewable energy. The purpose of the article is to analyze the countries' eco-innovative development, determine the impact of factors on alternative energy sources consumption, and consider models for eco-innovation network management. The dynamics of the Global Innovation Index, the European Innovation Scoreboard, and the Eco-Innovation Index were analyzed. The research implements the analysis of 27 EU countries for the period 2013-2020 by indicators that influence the eco-innovations development. The model of the impact of countries' investment development and economic growth indicators (such as foreign direct investment; GDP per capita), management level and the willingness of the government to invest in eco-innovation (total tax and contribution rate; government effectiveness; control of corruption; rule of law; research and development expenditure), and the level of income inequality (income share held by highest 10%; Gini index) on the consumption of alternative energy sources, energy-efficient technologies, and waste management and recycling implementation was built. The linear and cybernetic models for eco-innovation network management were considered. The pace of eco-innovation is strongly influenced by the effectiveness of state eco-innovation policies, the availability of a comprehensive information base, and the mechanisms of interaction between the science and production sectors. Effective eco-innovation networking implies that between the participants there are different types of relationships, the main of which are economic; legal; administrative; technological; social; and informational. This article investigates the nuanced interplay between religiosity and environmental behaviors, specifically waste management and active environmentalism, within the context of two distinct Muslim societies. Drawing upon correlational survey methodology and employing questionnaire techniques, data were collected from 355 individuals aged 18 to 59, with a demographic composition comprising 50.4% Turkish Muslims (N=179) and 49.6% Jordanian Muslims (N=176). The mean age of the sample is 25.6 (SD= 7.75). Utilizing measures such as the "Environmental Behavior Scale", and "Brief Religiosity Scale", the study sheds light on the differential impact of religiosity on environmental practices across socio-cultural contexts. Results revealed a positive correlation between religiosity and both waste management and active environmentalism among the Jordanian sample, whereas a positive association was observed solely between religiosity and waste management within the Turkish sample. The reduction and effective use of waste generated by various economic activities has become a global issue that goes beyond individual countries. Agriculture as an integral part of the economy also contributes to environmental pollution, although the waste from various agricultural activities is mostly safe and recyclable. That quality enables agricultural waste reintegration into the economy (through appropriate processing) and provides opportunities for utilizing its full potential. In that sense, the aim of the study is to analyse the waste trends for the period 2016 -- 2020, to compare the waste generated by agriculture in Bulgaria with one of the other member states of the European Union as well as to present good examples of its innovative use. Food waste raises severe concerns all around the globe. Thus, several researchers employed various food waste additives in the earthen matrix to improve their performance, decrease energy consumption, and efficient waste management. Therefore, this study evaluates the Tea Waste (T.W.) additive in producing unfired clay brick by adding different ratios in the brick clay mixtures 2.5 %, 5 %, 7.5 %, and 10 % of the weight. Samples were prepared and dried under natural laboratory conditions at 20o C for 7 days until weight and shrinkage stabilization, followed by oven-dried for 48 h at 60 oC. Several tests were performed to examine the physical and mechanical characteristics of the samples, including flexural strength, density, compressive strength, linear shrinkage, capillary water absorption, thermal conductivity, and the U.P.V. The results demonstrated that porosity and shrinkage slightly increased. While density, flexural strength, and compressive strength values decrease. In addition, the thermal conductivity increased depending on the T.W. content. In addition, samples containing 2.5 % and 5 % of T.W. give better compressive strength results above 3.5 MPa, which is the least limit required according to the Indian standards IS 1077, while T.W. additive of 7.5 % and 10 % did not fulfill the standard's strength requirement and therefore could be used for isolation only due to the increased amount of porosity that improves the thermal conductivity. The results indicated that samples with suitable mechanical and physical properties could achieve a suitable amount of T.W. it is recomenned that the porous structure of the clay brick body impacted the clay brick's properties and can be an effective alternative to porosity makers for lightweight insulating brick production. One of the major tenacious environmental problems is the management of various household waste components. Hence, the objective of this paper was to evaluate the attitude and behavioural intention of households towards acceptability and integration of dustbin for domestic waste collection and management in Ho Municipality, Volta Region, and Ghana in general, using appropriate standard methods. Data obtained and analyzed reveals that most respondents agreed that it is important to accept and integrate dustbin for waste management (M = 4.89; SD = 1.181) and that it is good to accept and integrate dustbin for waste management (M = 4.84; SD = 1.220). They also believed that the benefits of accepting and integrating dustbin for waste management outweigh the associated risks (M = 4.69; SD = 1.223). Overall, most respondents indicated their attitude towards the acceptability and integration of dustbin for waste management, which is positive (M = 4.80; SD = 1.217). Batteries are one of many types of solid waste. Once utilized, they are considered and categorized as 'hazardous waste' since they can cause major problems if unlawfully disposed of. The synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles using eco-friendly methods and their application in photocatalysis is crucial due to the environmental and economic benefits of recycling Zn plates from waste batteries. This innovative approach not only offers a sustainable solution for waste management but also presents an opportunity to harness the photocatalytic properties of ZnO nanoparticles for various environmental remediation applications, thereby contributing to the advancement of green nanotechnology and sustainable development. This study aims to address environmental concerns associated with battery waste and water pollution by proposing a sustainable and innovative approach. The focus is on recycling zinc plates from discarded batteries and synthesizing zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles using eco-friendly methods. In this study, ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized on the Zn plates isolated from waste batteries by reacting the plates in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. SEM and EDS were used to characterize the final ZnO-coated Zn plate. The presence of ZnO nanoparticles with small spherical forms and modest diameter variation on the Zn plate was confirmed by SEM data. Furthermore, the photocatalytic treatment of azo dyes with the obtained ZnO-coated Zn plates was examined. The investigation yielded degradation rates of 72.7% and 57.4% for Remazol Brillant Blue R (RBBR) and Basic Red 18 (BR 18), respectively. Results demonstrate the potential of the ZnO-coated Zn plates as effective photocatalysts, highlighting their role in promoting sustainability in both waste management and water treatment. Background: The healthcare sector contributes directly to global warming and environmental decline. This is partly due to disproportionately large waste generation compared to other sectors and the environmental consequences of medical waste incineration. Waste separation and recycling decrease the total waste generation of the theatre complex, decreasing the cost of waste disposal, and if properly implemented, can generate revenue. Waste separation is not performed uniformly, and no recycling programmes exist in the theatre complexes of the academic hospitals in Johannesburg. Potentially recyclable anaesthetic waste is not identified in our setting. Methods: Recyclable anaesthetic waste items were identified. Anaesthetic waste was collected after every anaesthetic case. General and medical waste were weighed respectively and inspected for correct separation. Recyclable items were separated from general waste and weighed. Results: A total of 107.6 kg of anaesthetic waste was evaluated. Per anaesthetic case, 74.6% (65.0-84.2%) was medical waste, and 25.4% (15.8-35.0%) was general waste. Of the general waste, 68.8% (57.7-78.8%) was recyclable. Only 6.8% of medical and 61.4% of general waste bags inspected were correctly separated. Within each medical waste bag, 6.9% (2.3-15.5%) of waste was incorrectly placed general waste. Similarly, each general waste bag contained 6% (0-21.6%) incorrectly placed medical waste. Waste generated per surgical discipline was significantly different. Conclusion: Correct waste separation, a key step in decreasing the burden of healthcare waste, was poor. Construction and demolition (C&D) waste management is challenging in urban areas due to the high volume of waste generated and widespread illegal dumping. City authorities are struggling with environmental, economic, and social issues due to the lack of a systematic waste management process. An inefficient collection system leads to the loss of valuable urban spaces and clogging of drains with debris. This study aims to develop a simplified algorithm for effective C&D waste collection and transportation systems that maximize efficiency and minimize cost. It analyses various scheduling concepts such as Dijkstra's, Bellman-Ford's, and Floyd-Warshall's algorithm to identify the most efficient route for the collection fleet. The uniqueness of the study lies in providing an integrated solution to the collection and transportation issues of C&D waste management by estimating the volume of debris from photographs and scheduling the collection fleet based on real-world constraints. Waste type, volume, transportation fleet, route and vehicle capacities are considered to aid in efficient resource allocation and utilization. Optimization process involves determining the optimal allocation of waste to the collection fleet, scheduling transportation routes, and assigning human resources. On verification with a real-world case, the model was found to reduce the number of trips and enhance resource utilization, resulting in an efficiency improvement of over 30%. Since waste collection constitutes a significant cost in any solid waste management process, proposed methodology would be beneficial for waste recycling facilities and local waste management authorities to optimize the process, minimize costs, maximize efficiency and reduce environmental footprint. Alternating laminae of charred ash and packed earth uncovered in Field VI of Tel Gezer, Israel, have been interpreted as the remains of Iron Age threshing floors. Recent geoarchaeological research has, however, led to the reinterpretation of similar deposits elsewhere as the remains of a trash heap. This paper presents the results of analysis and dating of charred plant remains that were recovered from the laminated deposit of Gezer Field VI and reassesses their implications for the origins of the strata. A broad spectrum of potentially cultivated crops and arable weeds are identified, matching contemporary archaeobotanical assemblages elsewhere in the region. The archaeobotanical remains are found to be inconsistent with the residues expected to derive from a threshing floor. Rather, they appear to derive from a range of depositional pathways. This is consistent with a context into which numerous sources of plant remains were deposited, such as a midden. Evidence for the potential use of this space as a multi-purpose activity area will be a focus of future research. The dating of the archaeobotanical remains also aligns with a recently developed radiocarbon-based chronology to suggest that the laminated deposit is dated several centuries earlier than previously thought. Leveraging petroleum coke's rich carbon content, co-gasification presents a viable method to transform E-waste into syngas. Using response surface methodology (RSM), the research analyzes various E-waste and petroleum coke blends, focusing on how gasification temperatures and pressures affect cold gas efficiency (CGE). Results highlight that the 25% printed circuit board (PCB) socket blend achieves an optimal CGE of 66.03% at 1,171.27°C and 1.95 bar via RSM and attains 64.10% CGE at 1,150°C and 1 bar as per the equilibrium model, in contrast to the 75% blend's CGE of 49.96% at 1,256°C and 1.57 bar, and 47% at 1,250°C and 1 bar. This article delves into a compelling case study examining the intricate connection between plastic waste management in Morocco, with a particular focus on Casablanca and Rabat, and the disparate working conditions experienced by workers, both in formal and informal roles, within this sector. All of this unfolds within the broader context of the sector's shift towards the principles of the Circular Economy. To accomplish this, we draw upon insights from a diverse array of experts in the field, as well as input from key stakeholders, including public administration overseeing the transition process, representatives from the private business sector, and the informal waste collectors themselves. Through this multifaceted approach, we gain a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies and subtleties surrounding the evolution of waste management practices in Morocco. The article deals with the problem of waste management in Algeria. It aims to analyze the various policies undertaken by the government in order to be able to respond to the principles of sustainable development and the circular economy from the perspective of sustainable and integrated waste management. The analyses carried out show that the first waste management strategies in Algeria were highly reactive and constituted a response to the exponential increase in waste. This research determines the optimal rotary dryer design for banana waste drying with Biot number. When banana waste is adequately dried, it can be repurposed into valuable resources. Based on the proposed banana plant waste rotary dryer, drying efficiency is significantly improved compared to conventional dryers as attributed to design calculations and simulation. Here, the design process involves the three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design of individual parts, subassemblies, and main assembly, accompanied by detailed illustration drawings, and optimization of rotary dryer flight design. Biot number is crucial in the design calculations of the diameter and length of the dryer. The Design of Experiments (DoE) and computational fluid dynamics simulations are also used. Proper drying, facilitated by the proposed rotary dryer, enables efficient repurposing of banana waste into animal feed, biofuel, bioplastics, and other nanotechnology applications, contributing to sustainable waste management practices and a promising solution to environmental challenges. Nuclear fuel cycle advancements will result in new types of fissile material, including nuclear wastes, that require security and safeguards. Nuclear wastes may be more vulnerable for diversion by non-state actors, and chemical processing to recover fissile material is not an insurmountable challenge. Previous work has applied a figure of merit (FOM) to assess material attractiveness and security risks. This analysis applies the material attractiveness FOM to wastes produced by fuel cycles from the Fuel Cycle Evaluation and Screening (FCES) study. Two aspects of security risk are studied: (1) the time before the fissile material in the waste becomes attractive and (2) the number of waste packages required to obtain a critical mass of fissile material. Two fuel cycles are presented to highlight detailed results: (1) once-through use of low-enriched U in light water reactors (LWRs) and (2) continuous recycle of Pu in sodium fast reactors (SFRs). Increasing LWR used nuclear fuel (UNF) package loading increases the time to attractiveness, but the larger packages contain enough Pu for multiple critical masses. The high-level waste (HLW) from processing the SFR fuels has similar FOM behavior but longer time to attractiveness due to the concentration of fission products. More HLW packages are required to obtain a critical mass; that number can be further increased by increasing the separation efficiency. Extended to all FCES fuel cycles, the minimum time before attractiveness is generally lower for UNF than for HLW because radioactivity is concentrated in HLW. For nearly all fuel cycles that produce UNF, only one package is required to recover enough fissile material for a critical mass. Notably, some advanced fuel cycles produce HLW, of which only two packages need to be recovered to obtain a critical mass, even when the target fissile material is recycled. Going forward, an assessment of the security risks posed by fissile material in nuclear wastes will need to quantify the challenge posed by separations. Ultimately, the assessment could inform security and response measures; whether any of the observations might affect these measures could be an area for future work. Finally, future analysis could study whether different fuel cycle wastes are more attractive for use in radiological dispersal devices or radiological exposure devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rapid growth in the consumption of electronic and textile products has led to an increasing need for proper disposal of e-waste and textile waste. AppCycle is a mobile application designed to address this pressing issue by facilitating the correct collection and disposal of these types of waste, thereby reducing the environmental impact and contributing to the circular economy. The users will have the ability to conveniently schedule the collection of these types of waste, whether among users or with entities responsible for waste collection, and access information regarding designated disposal locations within the municipality of Vila Real. This article aims to disseminate the knowledge and experience gained during the development of AppCycle, shedding light on the challenges encountered, lessons learned, and the potential for further initiatives in reducing waste consumption and promoting proper waste disposal. While great attention has been focused on urban waste management, waste management in rural areas is still much less concerned both at investigation and investment levels. This study aims to survey household waste generation, treatment methods, and willingness-to-pay in a low-income province in the northern part of Vietnam. The results showed that the solid waste generation rate varied depending on household size and economic conditions. Specifically, they were 0.62 kg/person/day, 0.49 kg/person/day, and about 0.25 kg/person/day, respectively, for people living in the provincial city, town, and communes. On average, the waste generation was about 0.33 kg/person/day, which was much lower than in other provinces of Vietnam; however, this rate was at the same level as other low-income provinces internationally. The surveyees were willing to pay only about US$ 0.25/HH/month (accounting for 0.25% of HH monthly expenses). The cost of producing xanthan gum by Xanthomonas campestris is heavily impacted by the use of sugar or dextrose as a carbon source from an industrial standpoint. To address this, the researchers in this study opted to use kitchen waste, a substantial solid waste from the food industry, as a valuable source of fermentable sugars. Inedible parts of broccoli and cauliflower used as kitchen waste in this study show promising potential as an economically and ecologically sustainable material for fermenting biomolecules. This study aims to evaluate the viability of utilizing kitchen waste as a cost-effective, ecologically sustainable carbon source to produce xanthan, making use of Xanthomonas campestris NCIM 2961 in the process. Aqueous extracts of inedible parts of cauliflower and broccoli were fermented with Xanthomonas campestris NCIM 2961 at standard conditions. The fermentation parameters, including, pH, temperature, agitation, and incubation period were varied at different levels to study the effects of varying conditions on the xanthan yield and to determine the optimum levels of the fermentation parameters. After the fermentation process, the xanthan gum was separated from the broth through alcoholic precipitation and subsequent drying. The weight of the dried gum was recorded. To analyze the properties of the xanthan obtained from the alternative medium under standard conditions, it was compared with commercial food-grade xanthan using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The FTIR spectra of xanthan produced from the alternate medium showed a close resemblance to that of the commercial food-grade xanthan. The results obtained validate the potential of kitchen waste as a cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative carbon source for xanthan production, thereby decreasing the cost of production and solid waste generated. Activated carbon monoliths (ACMs) are single-piece, three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical porous structures with good permeability, high stability, and swift mass transfer features. Production of activated carbon monoliths from biomass has been identified as promising and sustainable for process development. In this study, ACM was synthesised from African locust bean pods and polystyrene resin. The pods were chemically activated using potassium hydroxide and then carbonised in a locally fabricated auto-thermal biomass-powered reactor for 100 minutes. The activated carbon was then hand-mixed with an organic binder, expanded polystyrene resin, and the product was thermally cured to form the ACM. The ACM was then characterised to determine its properties. Elemental determination revealed the ACM was mostly composed of carbon (63%), potassium (18%), oxygen (4%), and a host of other metals. SEM micrographs showed that the ACM's surface is composed of irregular or heterogeneous-sized carbon materials firmly held by the resin with well-developed visible micropores. Some of the functional groups inherent in the ACM include hydroxyl, alkene, carbonyl, and alkyne. The ACM has a BET surface area of 237 m2/g, a pore diameter of 2.86 nm, and a Young modulus of 1.064 MPa. This paper explores the use of Internet of Things (IoT) and smart bin technologies to automate the recycling waste collection process and ensure the reliability of the entire system through the incorporation of security measures and blockchain technology. With the increasing global concern for waste management and sustainable practices, the integration of IoT and smart bins brings forth a multitude of benefits. These include heightened efficiencies, reduced costs, and improved accuracy in waste collection. By integrating IoT sensors into traditional waste bins, these smart bins can gather data regarding the fill levels of waste. This enables waste collectors to optimize their routes and collection schedules, resulting in a more streamlined process. The collected data is securely transmitted to the relevant stakeholders and it is recorded on a blockchain-based platform to enhance transparency and accountability. The incorporation of security measures ensures the privacy and integrity of the collected data throughout the entire data transmission process. This paper emphasizes the immense potential of utilizing IoT and smart bin technologies to revolutionize waste collection practices, thereby contributing to a more efficient and sustainable recycling ecosystem. Municipal solid waste generation in India is increasing as a result of rapid urbanisation and a growing population. Due to gaps in the existing waste collection, treatment and recovery methods, large-scale unscientific disposal and lesser waste recovery have been observed. Insufficient source segregation, unorganised efforts, less awareness and indifference towards malpractice, and a lack of strict implementation were identified as the causes through literature review, surveys and interviews, Therefore, there is a need for a system of interventions, which organises efforts toward waste management and reduces the tolerance for source segregation errors. Mosaic governance is a concept used in environmental policy, where the basis is the initiation of topics by the civil sector. Active citizens should contribute to creating environmental policies (specifically green infrastructure and waste management in the presented research). The article aims to analyze active citizenship in local environmental policy initiatives using the concept of mosaic governance. Mosaic governance focuses on exchanging resources, discourses, game plans, and experiences between governments and active citizens. Mosaic governance is mainly applied in Western European cities, where the concept originated. In the Central European area, the investigation of mosaic governance is not so strongly widespread. That is why the article's authors investigated the model mentioned in Slovakia. The paper's primary goal is to show the different forms of civic activism involved in environmental policies in selected cities. Since the Slovak Republic has eight self-governing regions, one city was selected from each. The criteria for selecting cities were realized projects in green infrastructure and waste management, a higher rate of the city's transparency index (according to statistical data), the willingness of local government actors to conduct interviews, and financial subsidies used in environmental projects. Each city uses citizen activism differently when creating environmental policies. The authors conclude that several modified versions of mosaic governance and representation of civic activism exist. The basic model, where citizens are involved based on the initiative of self-governing bodies; the optimal model, where citizen activists directly initiate topics; and the adaptive model, where citizen activists are direct decision-makers. Teachers and the would-be teachers are the facilitators of learning who are the first to implant to us knowledge as we aim to instill sustainable development in every facet of our daily operations. Moreover, to realize sustainable development, this research focuses on the extent of environmental awareness in the framework of waste management among preservice teachers in the College of Teacher Education. This study employed a descriptive-quantitative research design with a 30-item survey questionnaire consisting of five different categories to measure the level of awareness of the preservice teacher. It was administered to a total of 250 third year and fourth-year preservice teachers upon which 213 (85.2%) responded. The findings of this study revealed the multifaceted spectrum of attitudes of the preservice teachers that span from pessimism to optimism in relation to waste management practices and environmental concerns. The results suggest that stakeholders consider a diverse range of perspectives when formulating strategies to promote sustainable waste management practices and cultivate environmental awareness. Morocco has implemented circular economy principles in their waste management program to close or rehabilitate all existing landfills. However, the waste collection and transportation process remain highly inefficient and costly, contributing to a substantial environmental footprint for waste collection operations. The inefficiencies in the current waste management system highlight the need for innovative solutions to optimize collection processes and minimize environmental impact. This study responds to this imperative by proposing the use of smart bin technology combined with a vehicle routing problem tool. The integration of these technologies aims to develop an intelligent solution for appropriate waste collection, limiting container pickup only when necessary, and optimizing waste collection routes. In 2005, a team of Polish archaeologists discovered three Coptic codices, two on papyrus and one on parchment, in the rubbish dump of a hermitage at Sheik Abd el-Gurna, Egypt. While the parchment codex and the remains of the bindings of the papyrus ones have been conserved, the text blocks of the papyrus codices were opened and disassembled and after being disinfected remained untouched for nearly 15 years, until the current project started. Currently, all three books are stored in the collection of the Coptic Museum in Cairo. Our team undertook the conservation of and archaeometric research on the papyrus codices. The first of the books contains the Canons of Pseudo-Basil, while the second is an Encomium of St. Pisenthios. Both codices have been palaeographically dated to the seventh-eighth centuries CE. In this paper, we describe our project and present the results of the work carried out on the Canons of Pseudo-Basil. Our work involved photography in transmitted light, measurements of the thickness of the papyrus leaves, and digital microscopy under three-light illumination. These measurements allowed us to determine the types of the inks and characterize the papyrus writing substrate. For conservation, we used a novel method developed in the Egyptian Museum in Berlin that comprises suspending papyrus folios on a translucent, extremely thin Japanese paper inside glass frames without the use of adhesives. With the increasing trend of waste production in the hotel industry, a turn to green waste management would greatly alleviate costs and carbon footprint. Although policies are being updated to accommodate the transition to eco-friendlier management, there is little literature about technologies used to reduce pollution. This study assessed the economic effectiveness and cost improvement of the hotel industry in Western Visayas using cleaner production technology practices. This study utilized a descriptive survey research approach. The 156 participants, which consisted of hotel owners, managers, and employees, were chosen using a stratified random sampling technique using G* power version 3.0. The statistical tools employed were frequency counts, percentages, rankings, averages, standard deviation, and one-way ANOVA. Results revealed that the top five cleaner production technology practices implemented that suggest sustainability were: “modify facilities/equipment”, “adequate proper control operations”, “improves facilities/equipment layout”, “provides training and incentive programs”, and “improves wastes segregation and storage”. The study shows no significant differences observed in the scope of practices for stars 3-5. On the contrary, there is a significant difference seen in the scope of 2- star hotel practices. The use of cleaner production technology and green practices has also decreased the hotel's use of energy, water, and solid waste management. Importantly, the cost of consumption in each hotel unit decreased. The findings of this study will enable hotels to adopt efficient waste sorting techniques, paving the way for a greener transition in the hospitality industry. The paper revisits the Porter-Wagner dilemma about the association between environmental management (EM) and firm performance (FP). The context of informal Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) provides an interesting case since they are away from regulatory scrutiny or corporate/social obligations. The study resorts to labor productivity as the measure of FP and EM is represented by the various solid waste management practices (WMPs) adopted by the informal enterprises. Using the latest available cross-sectional data on un-incorporated firms by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) 73rd round 2015-16, we found the positive impact of WMPs was higher in the case of more productive firms in the quantile, indicating the relevance of the Porter-Wagner dilemma. The current study aimed at examining the role of green financing in supporting sustainable energy investments from perspective of energy sector in Jordan. Areas of green financing were adopted from Arab Monetary Fund report (2022) which included (Renewable Energy, Green Buildings, Sustainable Transport, Waste Management and Sustainable agriculture). Quantitative methodology was adopted and a questionnaire was distributed on a sample of (147) respondents from (190) organizations from energy sector in Jordan. Results of study indicated that acceptance of the main hypothesis arguing that green financing has the ability to support sustainable energy investments within energy sector in Jordan with a variance of 78% and an R = 0.883 which was statistically accepted. Considering the adopted variables, it was noticed that all variable had a role in supporting sustainable energy investment and the highest impact was scored by sustainable agriculture which was manifested by a variance of 71.2% and a R =0.844. Study recommended initiating an affiliation "partnership" between banking sector and energy sector in Jordan in order to enhance and support sustainable energy investment in a more profound way. Today, adsorption has become the focus of attention for the uptake of heavy metal ions, industrial dyes and pharmaceuticals. This focus is due to the regeneration of the adsorbent and the minimization of the chemical through the adsorption technique, resulting in high efficiency of adsorption and the possibility of metal recovery, flexibility and simplicity of design. In recent years, the number of studies using chemically modified textile waste as adsorbents has increased due to their high adsorption capacity and regeneration ability, thus achieving high efficiency. On the other hand, the increasing world population inevitably leads to an increase in the amount of waste left from the textile industry, together with the increase in demand for textile and ready-made clothing products. While these textile waste cause disposal problems within the framework of waste management, they also reveal the need for solutions that support sustainable development. Recently, many studies have been conducted on the preparation of activated carbons from various materials. For example, the fact that cotton textile waste is considered a good carbon source because it is rich in cellulose and other substances draws the attention of researchers in this direction. Therefore, this study aims to discuss the technological developments in this context and to reveal the deficiencies or weaknesses of these developments by examining the studies investigating the potential of textile waste in the removal of contaminants such as dyes, metals and pharmaceuticals. The research presented in this paper aimed to obtain relevant results in relation to the behavior and degree of awareness of the collection of household waste, the factors that influence this behavior, as well as the identification of barriers that prevent the selective collection of household waste. The research methodological approach was deductive; a cross-sectional survey was organized in 2019 with the population over 18 years of age in Prahova County (Romania), with a non-probabilistically selected sample. Structural equation modeling using SmartPLS was used to highlight the effect of enablers and barriers on the behavior of household waste collection. The results obtained showed that: the availability of information and awareness of the benefits had significant positive effects on waste collection behavior; the perception of barriers negatively affects household waste collection; the availability of information about waste management has a positive influence on the awareness of the benefits. The results have obvious implications on waste management policies in Prahova County and will contribute to the scientific substantiation of the strategies and policies of local authorities. [Display omitted] The global municipal solid waste (MSW) generation rate is 2.01 billion metric tonnes annually with an average of 0.74 kg waste/person/day. Approximately 92 % of the MSW originates from organics composition (e.g., food waste; plastic; paper; garden waste/woods, and textile), where 33 % of overall MSW is improperly managed in an efficient and environmentally safe manner. One of the promising methods to solve MSW management issues is to convert MSW into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) that can be used for the clinker burning process in cement kiln to replace the usage of fossil-based solid fuel. Thus, the potential of local MSW composition in energy recovery; suitability of RDF production technology; as well as international-industry requirement on RDF in co-processing and environmental concerns are discussed. Due to heterogeneous composition and sizes in nature, high moisture, and substantial amount of chloride content in MSW, it needs to undergo pre-treatment processes to enhance the RDF's physio-chemical properties that comply with RDF ASTM/EN standards, where expected high heating value (HHV) is > 20 MJ/kg, ash (<10 %), Chloride (Cl) (<0.80 – 1.00 %), Sulphate (S) (<1.50 %), Nitrate (N) (<1.00 %). As the development of upgraded MSW to RDF is still new in the commercial phase, there is minimal information and data on the techno-economic analysis, as well as recent industrial-scale of thermos-chemical conversion technologies for RDF preparation. Hence, the present work provides a clear picture on overview of municipal solid waste (MSW) generation, MSW composition, MSW pretreatment, and application as co-processing in cement industry are discussed. Besides, recent thermochemical upgrading process (torrefaction, dry carbonization, and hydrothermal carbonization) of MSW from R&D to commercial scale was further highlighted. In summary, this review serves as basic criterion and strategies to explore the new path of upgrading the waste into RDF for the purpose of sustainable energy recovery that adopting in circular carbon economy framework. Environmental pollution caused by human activities is a global concern, and recycling is an effective strategy to reduce waste and minimize its negative impact on the environment, as these pollutants can have detrimental impact on ecosystems, human health, and the quality of life in general. Recycling avoids the accumulation of waste in landfills, which can contaminate soil, water, and air as well as reducing the production of new products. The objective of this work is to implement a mobile application to improve waste management by recycling companies. The Mobile-D methodology was used for the development of the project because it focuses on optimizing the efficiency and performance of mobile applications since it allows working in 5 phases which are: Exploration, Initialization, Production, Stabilization and Testing. In the first indicator (KPI-1), an improvement in customer retention was observed, with an increase of 114.29% in positive responses in the post-test. In the second indicator (KPI-2), there was a 39.92% decrease in response time, indicating a faster response in the collection service. In the third indicator (KPI-3), a significant increase of 86.86% in the volume of waste for recycling was observed. The results showed improvements in all indicators, indicating a positive impact of the implementation of the mobile application on waste management by the companies in the sector. Industrial development is being squeezed to achieve higher economic growth rates worldwide and in Lithuania, causing increasing environmental problems and, in particular, affecting climate change. Climate change is one of the most worrying environmental problems worldwide. In recent decades, it has become increasingly evident in its negative impact on the environment and on economic and social development. Human economic activities are leading to an increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, leading to rising temperatures throughout the global temperatures. Greenhouse gases are emitted from industrial production processes, agricultural activities, the burning of fossil fuels and improper waste management. Industrial growth is often associated with legal entities whose main objective is to maximise profits at the lowest possible cost, which becomes a major threat to the environment. In this context, legal instruments are crucial in addressing climate change, as they set common goals and objectives and create legal mechanisms. Therefore, the author of the article has set herself the goal of exposing the legal regulation of climate change in the context of the ideology of sustainable development, with the exception of the Lithuanian waste management sector. The article focuses on the ideology of sustainable development, its development and objectives, the implementation of the objectives in the context of the compatibility of economic, social and environmental interests, and the actualization of climate change. It reviews the 2015 United Nations General Assembly Resolution "Changing our world: an agenda for sustainable development by 2030". It brings up to date the basis of the concept of sustainable development, which is the constructive interaction of the three main components: environment, economy and society. It concludes that the absence of, or failure to adhere to, clear and focused national policies to implement international agreements on climate change is a global threat. Moreover, the legal measures identified to mitigate climate change need to be assessed comprehensively in order to avoid further damaging climate change and to ensure the realisation of the concept of sustainable development. This research investigates to manage waste in longitudinal submerged arc welded (LSAW) steel pipes by the utilization of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools, with an emphasis on promoting sustainability through waste reduction. The DMAIC approach was implemented to ascertain underlying causes, enact modifications, and oversee practices. Reusing, recycling, and repurposing of materials was employed to minimize production waste. The findings demonstrate a noteworthy decrease in waste with regards to the overall weight of raw material, from 5.3% to 3.4%, and a reduction in monetary losses by 58.07%. The implementation of the LSS methodology has been shown to augment customer satisfaction, minimize waste and variation, and improve sustainability in numerous industries. The effectiveness of the LSS approach in managing waste and promoting sustainability in the LSAW sector was validated by consistent results, as evidenced by the control plan. Given the crucial significance of efficient waste management for sustainable production and consumption, this research underscores the potential of LSS as a resilient methodological approach to reduce waste and advance sustainability in the industry. In today's rapidly evolving world, environmental sustainability and waste management pose significant challenges. Consumer habits in many countries often lead individuals to behave irrationally, exploiting resources selfishly and egocentrically, disregarding the environmental damage caused by such actions. While many developed countries actively seek creative solutions to enhance public awareness of waste reduction, recycling, and reuse, numerous less developed countries, including the Republic of North Macedonia, are at the early stages of transitioning toward a green economy. Initial efforts are underway to shift awareness and foster sustainable waste behavior among both individuals and legal entities. This paper aims to explore the citizens' waste behavior and challenges in the Pelagonia Region in the Republic of North Macedonia, with the goal of promoting the adoption of eco-friendly solutions, such as Reverse Vending Machines (RVM). The study also seeks to enhance awareness and promote waste management behavior through the research process and communication with the citizens. A survey was conducted, collecting data from 842 citizens in the Pelagonia region to gain insights into their perspectives. Statistical analysis of the collected data in the SPSS software package indicates that citizens' waste sorting practices are influenced by their age and employment status. However, the citizens' information for reverse vending machines and their use does not depend on this cluster affiliation. The analyses confirm that in the Republic of North Macedonia as a developing country, efforts are still needed to raise awareness and enhance education regarding eco-sustainable practices and behaviors among the population. Garbage or waste will be a serious problem if they are not managed properly. Sorting garbage is necessary before putting them in the bins. This paper develops an Android application called Lebooh 2 for garbage detection using EfficientDetLite, a Convolutional Neural Network’s architecture for object detection. Lebooh 2 is designed for Indonesian speakers. This paper applies two models: Model 1 and Model 2. Model 1 is trained to recognize 11 types of garbage, i.e., biological, battery, cardboard, metal, glass, plastic, paper, clothes, shoes, electronics, and trash. Model 2 is developed to detect whether the garbage is recyclable or not-recyclable. The experiment using EfficientDet-Lite 3 obtains the mean average precision are around 75% - 77%. User testing involves participants as testers and they collect 400 screenshots of Leboh 2 for solid waste detection. The user testing produces an accuracy of around 78% and 82% for Model 1 and Model 2, respectively. A simple survey of 172 respondents reveals that 22.7% of them have not yet learned how to sort the garbage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Object Detection is the task of localization and classification of objects in a video or image. In recent times, because of its widespread applications, it has obtained more importance. In the modern world, waste pollution is one significant environmental problem. The prominence of recycling is known very well for both ecological and economic reasons, and the industry needs higher efficiency. Waste object detection utilizing deep learning (DL) involves training a machine-learning method to classify and detect various types of waste in videos or images. This technology is utilized for several purposes recycling and sorting waste, enhancing waste management and reducing environmental pollution. Recent studies of automatic waste detection are difficult to compare because of the need for benchmarks and broadly accepted standards concerning the employed data andmetrics. Therefore, this study designs an Entropy-based Feature Fusion using Deep Learning forWasteObject Detection and Classification (EFFDL-WODC) algorithm. The presented EFFDL-WODC system inherits the concepts of feature fusion and DL techniques for the effectual recognition and classification of various kinds of waste objects. In the presented EFFDL-WODC system, two major procedures can be contained, such as waste object detection and waste object classification. For object detection, the EFFDL-WODC technique uses a YOLOv7 object detector with a fusionbased backbone network. In addition, entropy feature fusion-based models such as VGG-16, SqueezeNet, and NASNet models are used. Finally, the EFFDL-WODC technique uses a graph convolutional network (GCN)model performed for the classification of detected waste objects. The performance validation of the EFFDL-WODC approach was validated on the benchmark database. Environmental Sanitation is the principles and practice of effecting healthful and hygienic conditions in the environment to promote public health such as human excreta control, managing solid waste and wastewater, and pest and vector control. Hence, the objective of this work is to assess the environmental sanitation practices in Ondo Main Market in the City of Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria using standard appropriate techniques by administering. 249 structured questionnaires out of which 228 were retrieved. The study found that majority (76.3%) of the market operators cover a distance of 100 meters and above for water supply. Others cover distances of 51 to 100 meters (18.0%), and few cover distances of less than 50metres (5.7%). On access to toilet facilities, while 85.1% of the traders travel 100 meters and above to use the toilets, 10.1% travel 50-100 meters, while 4.8% travel less than 50 meters to use the toilet. The study concluded that the environmental sanitation practice in Ondo Main Market is inadequate. The study recommends that the government and the management of the market should bring water supply and toilet facilities closer to the market to enhance its environmental sanitation.
