CIRCULAR economy ,PLASTIC analysis (Engineering) ,WEB databases ,SCIENCE databases ,POLLUTION - Abstract
The plastics industry is vital to Canada's economy, particularly in Quebec. However, environmental challenges persist, prompting companies to invest in research to enhance product performance and sustainability. Recent developments include biodegradable polymers and composite materials. This research aims to develop an automated method for extracting and analyzing text data through text similarity analysis and LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) topic modeling. This approach helps identify both existing and emerging patented innovations, creating new categories within the patent classification system. The RoBERTa model, based on BERT and trained on patent data, has proven highly effective in identifying semantic similarities between technological classes and their patent summaries, achieving an accuracy significantly greater than 80%, regardless of the similarity threshold. The LDA topic analysis showed a 52% topic consistency score. A review of academic publication summaries from the Web of Science database revealed, for example, transitional approaches to the circular economy. These approaches represent a promising option for managing the end-of-life of plastics while reducing environmental pollution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The link between theory and practice in innovation studies still has some gaps, despite scholars' efforts to illustrate and identify them in real-world situations. To fully understand the dynamics of the innovation ecosystem, it is crucial to consider key actors and their roles and recognize their impact on ecosystem outcomes. Therefore, this paper seeks to discuss how analytical structures of innovation ecosystems address the dynamics of actors and their contribution to the ecosystem outcomes. Design/methodology/approach: A research protocol was developed to query the Web of Science database to identify analytical structures of innovation ecosystems based on pre-established criteria. Findings: The dynamics of actors interfere with their contribution to value creation. That is, the actor changes his contribution. Therefore, depending on the ecosystem's value proposition, the activities and dynamics of the actors change over time. Originality/value: It contributes to advancing the discussion of innovation ecosystems, addressing insights into the dynamics of actors in different analytical structures. The essay proposal considers innovation ecosystems' evolutionary aspects, value propositions and exchange. In addition, the importance of orchestration in the various stages of the ecosystem is highlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The purpose of the current study is to synthesize the outcomes of investigations reporting the odds of lumbar degenerative disc disease (DDD) in competitive swimmers compared to controls. Literature Survey: PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses guidelines from inception until March 2023 to identify relevant studies evaluating the risk for lumbar DDD associated with swimming. Methods: Data in the current literature were synthesized for positive imaging findings of DDD at one or more lumbar level in swimmers compared to nonswimmers. Additionally, data regarding prevalence of lumbar disc degeneration and back pain in competitive swimmers were synthesized. Synthesis: Four studies were included in the final analysis. Study quality and risk of bias were deemed adequate. There was significant heterogeneity among studies (I2 = 0.74) regarding data collected, population of swimmers, sample size, and methods. Therefore, a meta‐analysis was not conducted. Three of the four studies included in this review reported that swimmers have increased odds of developing lumbar DDD. Additionally, secondary outcome analysis indicated that swimmers have a higher probability of developing moderate‐to‐severe back pain. Conclusion: Competitive swimming appears to be associated with the presence of DDD on advanced imaging and moderate‐to‐severe back pain. These findings are limited by significant differences in study methodology in the included studies. Although swimming is conventionally considered a low‐impact sport, elite swimmers risk developing lower back pain and disc pathology, possibly because training involves unique biomechanics with repetitive rotational and hyperextension/flexion of the spine. Further research investigating risk factors involving biomechanics of swimming on the spine may have important implications for stroke technique, injury prevention, and rehabilitation for swimmers. The interest in Computational Thinking (CT) development among young learners increases with the number of studies located in literature. In this study, a meta-analysis was conducted to address two main objectives: (a) the effectiveness of empirical interventions on the development of CT in children aged of 3–8 years; and (b) the variables that influence the effectiveness of the interventions. Following PRISMA procedures, we identified 17 empirical studies with 34 effect sizes and 1665 participants meeting the inclusion criteria from Web of Science database. Overall, we found a statistically significant large effect size (d =.83 [95% CI: 730,.890]; p <.001) on the CT development of 3–8 years old children, which provides empirical support for having young children to engage in CT experiences. The effect size was significantly influenced by moderating variables including gender, scaffolding, and education level. Intervention length showed a marginally significant effect. Therefore, educators could refer to the significant moderators when designing tailored interventions for CT development in early childhood education while a call for more empirical studies of CT development in young children is proposed. Background: Orbital involvement of invasive fungal sinusitis (IFS) is an ominous prognostic marker that should prompt rapid intervention. Transcutaneous retrobulbar administration of amphotericin B (TRAMB) is an off-label adjunctive treatment that can increase drug penetrance into diseased orbital tissue. To date, there is a lack of consensus regarding the use of TRAMB for treatment of IFS with orbital involvement. Objective: This systematic review aims to synthesize the indications, efficacy, and potential complications of TRAMB. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were probed for systematic review. Article search was conducted through June 2023 using the keywords "invasive fungal sinusitis," "invasive fungal rhinosinusitis," "rhino-orbital mucormycosis," "rhinosinusitis," "orbital," "retrobulbar," and "amphotericin." Results: In suitable cases as determined by radiologic and clinical evaluation, TRAMB administration has the potential to improve orbital salvage rates and improve versus stabilize visual acuity. Treatment complications are more likely with deoxycholate than with liposomal amphotericin formulations. The existing literature describing use of TRAMB is limited due to its retrospective nature, but the increase in IFS cases since 2020 due to the COVID pandemic has broadened the literature. Conclusions: TRAMB is an effective adjunctive treatment in IFS with mild-to-moderate orbital involvement when used in combination with standard of care debridement, systemic antifungal therapy, and immunosuppression reversal. Prospective longitudinal studies and multi-institutional randomized trials are necessary to determine the definitive utility of TRAMB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is an inmuno-mediated mucocutaneous chronical inflammatory disease. Multiple predisposing factors are considered, such as autoimmune response, microorganisms, medications, dental materials, psychological stress, genetic predisposition or nutritional deficiencies. The deficiency of vitamin D has been related to various autoimmune diseases like OLP. Material and Methods: The electronic search was conducted in the MEDLINE (Pubmed), Scopus, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases. To assess any potential risk of bias, the authors critically appraised each study by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort and case-control studies. Pooled analyses were performed using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity of the studies was assessed by the I2 statistics. Forest Plots were performed to graphically represent the difference between vitamin D concentrations in the OLP compared to healthy group, with a 95% confidence interval. Results: After applying our inclusion and exclusion criteria, 7 articles were included in our review. The median concentration vitamin D in ng/ml found in serum for patients with OLP was of 26,63±11,75ng/ml and for healthy patients was of 31,43±8,7ng/ml. Regarding the quantitative analysis, 7 studies were included. The difference in the concentration of vitamin D in healthy patients and patients with OLP statistically significant (Weighted Mean Difference (WMD): -6.20, 95% CI: -11.24 to -1.15, p=0.02 and I2 heterogeneity: 94%, p<0.00001). Conclusions: The patients with OLP have statistically lower vitamin D levels than healthy patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to present a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 1,726 academic studies from among those indexed by the Web of Science database platform between 2013 and 2023, to provide a general framework for the concept of artificial intelligence in education (AIEd). Trends in publications and citations across countries, institutions, academic journals, and authors were identified, as well as collaborations among these elements. Several bibliometric analysis techniques were applied, and for each analysis, the motivations behind the execution and method of producing findings were documented. Our findings showed that the number of studies on the concept of AIEd has increased significantly over time, with the U.S. and China being the most common countries of origin. Institutions in the U.S. stand out from those around the world. Pioneering journals in education have also emerged as prominent in the field of AIEd. On the other hand, collaboration between authors has been limited. The study was supplemented with keyword analysis to reveal thematic AIEd concepts and to reflect changing trends. For those exploring artificial intelligence in education, our insights on popular topics offer valuable guidance toward greater understanding of the latest advancements and key research areas. INTERNET of things ,INFORMATION services ,SCIENCE databases ,WEB databases ,LIBRARY technical services - Abstract
The Internet of Things is a connected network consisting of various nodes that offer tools for a more convenient use of library services. In addition to enhancing library processes, it increases efficiency and improves library services. Therefore, the goal of this research is to identify the benefits and challenges of the Internet of Things in libraries and information centers. This will provide a coherent classification and perspective for future research on the Internet of Things in these centers using systematic review technique. The current research is applied in terms of its aim and methodology, as it is a qualitative study conducted using systematic review technique. The method involved formulating the research problem, studying relevant texts, determining a search strategy, and extracting data from Scopus and Web of Science databases. After retrieving 2335 documents from these databases, the data were merged and overlapping items were eliminated. Subsequently, necessary components were identified from 42 selected studies, and research concepts (dimensions) were extracted based on frequency and prioritized accordingly. In this research, the benefits, challenges, and types of technology used for the adoption of the Internet of Things in libraries and information centers were selected for final analysis. According to the concepts obtained during the research, each of them was categorized into similar concepts. Based on the findings, it was discovered that the benefits of the Internet of Things fell into three categories: online service infrastructure (8 concepts), management control infrastructure (16 concepts), and physical infrastructure (building smartness) (7 concepts). The challenges of using the Internet of Things were grouped into three categories: online service infrastructure (7 concepts), complex control infrastructure (8 concepts), and physical infrastructure (building smartness) (6 concepts). It was also found that RFID technology was the most widely used technology to implement the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things is one of the most suitable technologies in the current era for providing services and controlling library systems. Its high capability in facilitating and controlling work processes in libraries makes it a valuable tool. However, the application of this technology faces challenges such as lack of sufficient equipment, financial and administrative costs, and a shortage of expert staff to repair equipment when needed. Additionally, many librarians may not be familiar with this technology, and the maintenance costs can be high. Despite these challenges, the use of Internet of Things technology in libraries has the potential to create a better future for libraries. The degree of acceptance and implementation of this technology in libraries will depend on how many libraries are willing to embrace it. Therefore, authorities in charge of libraries should carefully consider the use of this technology and address the challenges that may arise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This systematic review aimed to compare reciprocating with continuous rotary instrumentation kinematics, by means of microcomputed tomography evaluations, in extracted human permanent teeth with moderate and severe canal curvatures. The research protocol was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews and given the reference number CRD42023404035. An electronic search was undertaken in MEDLINE (PubMed), EBSCO, Scopus, Web of Science databases until December 2021. Manual screening of issues in endodontic journals and references of relevant articles were assessed individually. The risk of bias (RoB) of the included articles was evaluated with the QUIN tool (Quality Assessment Tool for In Vitro Studies). Among 1640 retrieved articles, 49 were included in the qualitative synthesis. Fifteen articles had low RoB, 33 articles had medium RoB, and only 1 study was at high RoB. Continuous rotary systems had better centering ability in both moderate and severe canal curvatures and resulted in less apical transportation in severely curved root canals. None of the kinematic systems was capable of instrumenting the entire canal surface area. Reciprocating kinematics systems tended to provide higher increase in surface area of severely curved canals and produced fewer dentinal microcracks in moderately curved canals. The evidence presented in this review suggests that continuous rotary system seems to be better than reciprocating system in solving the major issues encountered during root canal instrumentation of extracted teeth with moderate and severe curvatures. Belonging is more than just a buzzword; it is a critical factor that affects students’ academic engagement, motivation, persistence, and overall achievement, especially considering the diversity of students in educational settings. The goal of this paper is to dissect the complexities of belonging, examining its various determinants, the diverse impacts it has on student university populations, and the range of strategies that effectively nurture this sense of belonging. We conducted literature search in August 2023 using the Web of Science database, focusing exclusively on publications from the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice. We used a combination of keywords like ‘belonging’, ‘university belonging’, ‘social belonging’, and other related terms, ensuring a comprehensive collection of relevant studies. A total of 133 articles were identified, with 77 selected for detailed full-text review. The final selection process resulted in 33 articles for the systematic review. Key results from our review indicate that belonging in higher education involves four main themes: connectedness to peers, staff, and the institution; feeling safe and part of the community; being valued and accepted; and embracing diversity and inclusion. These themes reflect a holistic understanding of belonging as a multi-dimensional concept, significantly influenced by institution-wide approaches, inclusive environments, educator practices, and quality relationships. The variation of belonging experiences identifies key challenges such as exclusion of diverse groups, lack of connection opportunities, and insufficient support relationships. Effective strategies for fostering belonging include targeting multiple system levels, building relationships, employing diverse educator practices, leveraging technology and creating inclusive environments. Participatory budgeting was introduced in Latin America in 1989, and within 10 years, this innovation spread all over the world. At the same time, researchers outside Latin America showed a growing interest in the issue, resulting in more diversified research. A few scholars have already tried to provide comprehensive literature reviews; however, these efforts have had a narrow focus or have appeared as embedded parts of analyses of specific issues. This article aims to (1) identify recent worldwide research trends in participatory budgeting, (2) identify the most popular issues addressed by international research and (3) suggest avenues and subfields of further research. We employed bibliometric techniques to analyse articles published in journals that were indexed and abstracted in the Web of Science database from 2001 to 2020. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Complex environments, conflicting criteria, uncertainties, and inaccurate information are common in many real-world decision problems. The Multicriteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methodology plays a significant role in making decision-making processes more rational, efficient, and effective. In the military sphere, the Armed Forces of several countries have used MCDA methods to select operational means—means of transportation—that the Armed Forces have to carry out operations on the battlefield or in various operational scenarios, contributing to a more robust and informed approach to decision-making. This article aims to present a review of the literature on the main applications of MCDA in the selection of operative means. The methodology includes a bibliometric study and a bibliographic review of documents from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The bibliometric study identified the types of documents, year of publication, H and G indexes of the most relevant journals and authors, authors' publications, affiliation, clusters of keywords, area of knowledge, country, and main applications of the MCDA Methods in this area of research. Through this methodology, it was possible to identify that the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is the most applied MCDA method in the research area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study aimed to investigate the association between sex hormones and the risk of pulmonary fibrosis by conducting a meta-analysis of previously published studies. Methods: We executed a comprehensive search of the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to locate pertinent studies published up to April 2024. We included studies that reported the association between sex hormones and the risk of pulmonary fibrosis. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-effects model. Results: A total of 10 articles, encompassing 1371 patients, were finally incorporated in this meta-analysis. Based on the evaluation of the included studies, it was observed that the levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) (pooled SMD: −0.72, 95% CI: −1.21 to −0.24, p < 0.001), testosterone (pooled SMD: −1.25, CI: −2.39 and −0.11, p < 0.001) and estrogen (pooled SMD: −0.56, 95% CI: −0.96 to −0.15, p < 0.001) were significantly lower in patients with pulmonary fibrosis, whereas the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) remained unaffected. Publication bias was ruled out through funnel plots. Conclusion: This meta-analysis indicates that reduced levels of DHEA-S, testosterone, estrogen may serve as potential risk factors for pulmonary fibrosis. There is a pressing need for additional studies to confirm this association and explore the underlying biological mechanisms. Clinicians should recognize the potential influence of sex hormones in the etiology of pulmonary fibrosis and consider this aspect during the patient management process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Twenty-first-century skills should be integrated into higher education to prepare students for complex working-life challenges. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools have the potential to optimise skill development among higher education students. Therefore, it is important to conceptualise relevant affordances of AI systems for 21st-century skills development in higher education. This study aimed to present an overview of journal articles published in the Web of Science database that specifically addressed the affordances of AI-based tools for 21st-century skills development. Four distinct categories of AI-based tools (intelligent tutoring systems, chatbots, AI-powered dashboards and automated grading systems) were identified as capable of promoting six main 21st-century skills (collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, information and communication technology and problem-solving). The review revealed that the utilisation of AI-based tools might contribute to the simultaneous development of multiple 21st-century skills (e.g., collaboration and critical thinking). The results showed that adaptive feedback from AI plays a significant role as a facilitator in the development of 21st-century skills. Furthermore, the utilisation of diverse functional AI affordances (e.g., prediction and profiling) might contribute to the development of various skills. AI-based technologies appeared to target the 21st-century skills of problem-solving and its subskills the most. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To evaluate reliable and validated temporomandibular disorder (TMD) diagnostic instruments for use as diagnostic tools in epidemiological surveys. Methods: Two independent reviewers performed searches in the Medline/PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to identify validation studies of diagnostic and screening instruments for TMD published up to March 2021. Results: Sixteen studies were included for the systematic review. Different TMD instruments were evaluated, such as FAI, RDC/TMD, DC/TMD, Helkimo Index, and AAOP Questionnaire. The instruments differed according to the number of items. Some questionnaires appear to be effective for the initial screening of TMD patients and can be incorporated in clinical practice and epidemiological studies since they are easy and fast to apply. Conclusion: To provide an accurate TMD diagnosis, it is important to use instruments that involve a clinical examination. Authors suggest the development of a new validated diagnostic tool for use in epidemiological surveys. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper spotlights bilingual intermarriage by accentuating germane sociolinguistic studies to date in a comprehensive overview. The fact that couples have been largely marginalized in linguistics has become our motivation for a literature overview to establish the scope and directions of the scholarly development related to bilingualism among couples. With this in mind, we conducted a systematic review of research methods used by scholars who study bilingual couples. We analyzed seventy-seven academic publications in English and Polish. The reviewed works were culled from databases including Web of Science, Google Scholar, ERIC, JSTORE, Science Direct, and Semantic Scholar. We focused on publications in English since the bulk of the relevant literature comes out in this language. In turn our choice of Polish has been dictated by the fact that we have better access to linguistic studies in Polish that are less widely available internationally but enrich our research with original perspectives that may be absent from the English-language literature on the subject. Objective: The main objective of this study was to describe the translation, cultural adaptation, and content validation process of the French National Surveillance Programme for Pleural Mesothelioma (FNSPPM) questionnaire for the Portuguese context. Methods: A search was conducted in the PubMed database and Web of Science, in the period from January 1, 1960, to December 31, 2022, to select the questionnaire. Forward and reverse translations, calculation of the content validity index (CVI) by a panel of experts (n = 9), and cognitive interviewing with individuals with at least one exposure to asbestos (n = 10) were performed. Experts rated items on a Likert scale (1-4) based on their relevance. The item-level content validity index (I-CVI), scale-level content validity index based on the average method (S-CVI/Ave), and scale-level content validity index based on the universal agreement method (S-CVI/UA) were calculated. Results: The final version of the FNSPPM questionnaire for the Portuguese context resulted from a translation and content validation process. The panel of experts considered the questionnaire relevant, with an I-CVI of up to 0.78 in 68 of 69 of the questions, an S-CVI/Ave of 0.98, and an S-CVI/UA of 0.90. The participants in the cognitive interviews reported an understanding of the questionnaire. Conclusion: A validated FNSPPM questionnaire for the Portuguese context is now available to study individuals with pleural mesothelioma (PM) and asbestos exposure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The record of the origin and the history of data, known as provenance, holds importance. Provenance information leads to higher interpretability of scientific results and enables reliable collaboration and data sharing. However, the lack of comprehensive evidence on provenance approaches hinders the uptake of good scientific practice in clinical research. Objective: This scoping review aims to identify approaches and criteria for provenance tracking in the biomedical domain. We reviewed the state-of-the-art frameworks, associated artifacts, and methodologies for provenance tracking. Methods: This scoping review followed the methodological framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley. We searched the PubMed and Web of Science databases for English-language articles published from 2006 to 2022. Title and abstract screening were carried out by 4 independent reviewers using the Rayyan screening tool. A majority vote was required for consent on the eligibility of papers based on the defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Full-text reading and screening were performed independently by 2 reviewers, and information was extracted into a pretested template for the 5 research questions. Disagreements were resolved by a domain expert. The study protocol has previously been published. Results: The search resulted in a total of 764 papers. Of 624 identified, deduplicated papers, 66 (10.6%) studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. We identified diverse provenance-tracking approaches ranging from practical provenance processing and managing to theoretical frameworks distinguishing diverse concepts and details of data and metadata models, provenance components, and notations. A substantial majority investigated underlying requirements to varying extents and validation intensities but lacked completeness in provenance coverage. Mostly, cited requirements concerned the knowledge about data integrity and reproducibility. Moreover, these revolved around robust data quality assessments, consistent policies for sensitive data protection, improved user interfaces, and automated ontology development. We found that different stakeholder groups benefit from the availability of provenance information. Thereby, we recognized that the term provenance is subjected to an evolutionary and technical process with multifaceted meanings and roles. Challenges included organizational and technical issues linked to data annotation, provenance modeling, and performance, amplified by subsequent matters such as enhanced provenance information and quality principles. Conclusions: As data volumes grow and computing power increases, the challenge of scaling provenance systems to handle data efficiently and assist complex queries intensifies, necessitating automated and scalable solutions. With rising legal and scientific demands, there is an urgent need for greater transparency in implementing provenance systems in research projects, despite the challenges of unresolved granularity and knowledge bottlenecks. We believe that our recommendations enable quality and guide the implementation of auditable and measurable provenance approaches as well as solutions in the daily tasks of biomedical scientists. DIABETES in children ,CHILD patients ,ARTIFICIAL intelligence ,SCIENCE databases ,WEB databases - Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major health concern among children with the widespread adoption of advanced technologies. However, concerns are growing about the transparency, replicability, biasedness, and overall validity of artificial intelligence studies in medicine. Objective: We aimed to systematically review the reporting quality of machine learning (ML) studies of pediatric DM using the Minimum Information About Clinical Artificial Intelligence Modelling (MI-CLAIM) checklist, a general reporting guideline for medical artificial intelligence studies. Methods: We searched the PubMed and Web of Science databases from 2016 to 2020. Studies were included if the use of ML was reported in children with DM aged 2 to 18 years, including studies on complications, screening studies, and in silico samples. In studies following the ML workflow of training, validation, and testing of results, reporting quality was assessed via MI-CLAIM by consensus judgments of independent reviewer pairs. Positive answers to the 17 binary items regarding sufficient reporting were qualitatively summarized and counted as a proxy measure of reporting quality. The synthesis of results included testing the association of reporting quality with publication and data type, participants (human or in silico), research goals, level of code sharing, and the scientific field of publication (medical or engineering), as well as with expert judgments of clinical impact and reproducibility. Results: After screening 1043 records, 28 studies were included. The sample size of the training cohort ranged from 5 to 561. Six studies featured only in silico patients. The reporting quality was low, with great variation among the 21 studies assessed using MI-CLAIM. The number of items with sufficient reporting ranged from 4 to 12 (mean 7.43, SD 2.62). The items on research questions and data characterization were reported adequately most often, whereas items on patient characteristics and model examination were reported adequately least often. The representativeness of the training and test cohorts to real-world settings and the adequacy of model performance evaluation were the most difficult to judge. Reporting quality improved over time (r =0.50; P =.02); it was higher than average in prognostic biomarker and risk factor studies (P =.04) and lower in noninvasive hypoglycemia detection studies (P =.006), higher in studies published in medical versus engineering journals (P =.004), and higher in studies sharing any code of the ML pipeline versus not sharing (P =.003). The association between expert judgments and MI-CLAIM ratings was not significant. Conclusions: The reporting quality of ML studies in the pediatric population with DM was generally low. Important details for clinicians, such as patient characteristics; comparison with the state-of-the-art solution; and model examination for valid, unbiased, and robust results, were often the weak points of reporting. To assess their clinical utility, the reporting standards of ML studies must evolve, and algorithms for this challenging population must become more transparent and replicable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teaching conceptions in higher education, or so-called academics' conceptions of teaching (ACTs), are essential in informing teaching behaviors and influencing students' learning. Consequently, several attempts have been made since the 1990s to understand what ACTs represent and how they can be developed towards student-centered teaching. However, the expected results did not occur as planned because ACTs were frequently misinterpreted mainly because of the similarities with teaching beliefs and other comparable concepts like cognitions about teaching or perspectives of teaching. Hence, many fundamental issues still need to be solved (e.g., ACTs definition, terminology use, measurement, etc.). The present systematic literature review aimed to clarify the conceptual discrepancies in the ACTs' definitions and terminology and propose a consensus regarding the most appropriate working definition and terminological use. We analyzed 1123 studies using systematic online searching in the Web of Science Database and citation searching. After the eligibility process, we came across 78 eligible articles. The results showed that most of the studies used the terminology and definitions of "conceptions of teaching" (Pratt, 1992) to the detriment of the "beliefs of teaching" or another related term. Even though the concepts "conceptions of teaching" and "beliefs of teaching" come from different theoretical perspectives--where "conceptions" originate from a phenomenological approach, characterized by qualitative methodologies, and "beliefs" come from a cognitive approach, represented by quantitative studies--most studies used them interchangeably. However, the authors only extremely rarely (N = 2) appeared aware of this interchangeability and explicitly mentioned it. While the "conceptions of teaching" emerged as the most utilized term, Pratt's (1992) definition was the most often employed definition of ACTs. We advocate for consistency in teaching conceptions, research definitions, and terminological use, paramount for diminishing the risk of misinterpretation, comparing, and synthesizing findings, as well as straightforward communication among educationalists, researchers, and policymakers. Current developments and trends that characterise the market economy system, in a context marked by many uncertainties and tensions of economic, social and political order, draw more and more attention to the need and importance that resilience has at organisational level. In a world subject to constant change, the need and ability to adapt to the new, imprints a new dynamic at the level of economic systems. If until recently, the economic strength of an organisation, the degree of technology and its ability to concentrate as large a share of the market as possible were considered elements of performance, the reality of recent years has highlighted the fact that they are no longer enough. Digital technology is developing intensively in the volatile and turbulent context of recent years, through the introduction of innovative technologies, the automation of economic processes, but also changes in the organisational culture of many companies. The challenge of today's digital economy is manifested by the need for continuous adaptation to the needs of markets. Starting from these aspects, the purpose of this paper is to verify the hypothesis that digitization is a key element in ensuring resilience at organisational level in the current economic context. Thus, this paper aims to carry out an analysis on the topic of "digitalization of organisations", through a bibliometric study, from a perspective involving resilience. Data was retrieved from the Web Of Science database and analysed using VOSviewer software. The results of the paper aim at outlining some directions regarding development strategies able at ensuring organisational resilience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Numerous procedures can potentially injure the inferior alveolar nerve during oral and maxillofacial surgery, eventually causing loss or alteration of local sensitivity. When its total rupture occurs, a conduit, such as an autogenous graft, can be used to join it. Due to the morbidity resulting from this technique, alternative forms of sensorineural repair have been investigated. This systematic review includes an electronic search of PubMed, Embase, LILACS, and Web of Science databases, in addition to a grey literature and manual search. Article selection was performed by two independent researchers following a predetermined inclusion criterion: human studies evaluating the regression of sensorineural disorders after any form of grafting (autogenous, allogeneic, and synthetic). Of the 789 studies, 648 were analysed. Only 11 articles met the eligibility criteria. After analysing the results, it was noted that regaining normal sensitivity was uncommon, but the majority of reconstructed nerves recovered their protective abilities. Allografts showed success rates similar to autogenous grafts, making them a viable alternative. However, clinical trials are still needed to provide solid evidence. Prognosis for sensory recovery was impacted by grafting time and patient age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since its release at the end of 2022, the social response to ChatGPT, a large language model (LLM), has been huge, as it has revolutionized the way we communicate with computers. This review was performed to describe the technical background of LLMs and to provide a review of the current literature on LLMs in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS). The PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched for LLMs and OMS. Adjacent surgical disciplines were included to cover the entire literature, and records from Google Scholar and medRxiv were added. Out of the 57 records identified, 37 were included; 31 (84%) were related to GPT-3.5, four (11%) to GPT-4, and two (5%) to both. Current research on LLMs is mainly limited to research and scientific writing, patient information/communication, and medical education. Classic OMS diseases are underrepresented. The current literature related to LLMs in OMS has a limited evidence level. There is a need to investigate the use of LLMs scientifically and systematically in the core areas of OMS. Although LLMs are likely to add value outside the operating room, the use of LLMs raises ethical and medical regulatory issues that must first be addressed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The curriculum as an operational and teleological guide of an educational proposal, expresses the formative intention of educational institutions to achieve the learning goals, which dynamize the teaching processes, and are defined from the different perspectives established, according to the curricular principles that support it. For this, the present study consisted of a systematic review with meta-analysis of scientific documents in the Web of Science database regarding the curricular principles of transversality and transdisciplinarity. The main findings show a reiterative use of transversality and transdisciplinarity when designing the curricula of different programs in HEIs. It can be concluded that these two principles of the curriculum are considered a key piece in the process of integral formation of students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at an international level. Zirconia restorations are increasingly popular in dental treatment. Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) needs to be sintered for clinical applications and novel speed-sintering protocols are being developed for chairside treatments. Whether the properties of speed-sintered YSZ meet clinical requirements, however, remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the influence of speed-sintering on the optical and mechanical properties of dental YSZ according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines. A literature search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases for relevant articles published between January 1, 2010 and February 28, 2022 in English, Chinese, or Japanese. After full-text evaluation and quality assessment, 26 articles were selected. Meta-analysis revealed that speed-sintering does not significantly affect the CIEDE2000-based translucency parameter, contrast ratio, three-point flexural strength, biaxial flexural strength, or fracture toughness of YSZ (p < 0.01) compared to conventional sintering. However, the CIELab-based translucency parameter of conventionally sintered YSZ is higher than that of speed-sintered YSZ. The descriptive analysis indicated that speed-sintering does not affect the hardness of YSZ compared to that of conventionally sintered YSZ. The results indicate that speed-sintering is suitable for preparing YSZ for dental restorations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To evaluate current studies to establish and compare the efficacy of traditional and laser acupuncture in reducing the signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched. Clinical, controlled, and randomized trials written in English and having used traditional or laser acupuncture as therapy for TMD and RDC/TMD or DC/TMD as a diagnostic criterion for TMD were included. Six studies that evaluated the intensity of pain and the level of mouth opening of the patients submitted to acupuncture were selected, and all showed improvement. However, similar results were also observed in the groups treated with occlusal splint and placebo acupuncture. Only one study evaluated laser acupuncture and showed a higher proportion of patients with remission of symptoms in the experimental group. The traditional acupuncture seems to relieve the signs and symptoms of TMD, as well as laser acupuncture when associated with occlusal splint. However, more rigorous and high-quality clinical trials are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Digital storytelling has proven to be a pedagogy that can enhance learners' motivation and multiple competencies. However, there is a lack of conceptual research on digital storytelling in higher education. This study aims to assess the trends of digital storytelling in higher education through bibliometric analysis. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses) procedure was used to extract data from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. A thorough review was conducted to classify and rank the relevant literature on digital storytelling in higher education. The result shows that research on digital storytelling in higher education is increasing annually, but there are significant regional and disciplinary gaps at the higher education level. The main findings of this study are helpful for practitioners and researchers to understand better the current state of research on digital storytelling in higher education and to provide directions for future research.
