Obesity has reached epidemic proportions worldwide with India ranked third after USA and China. The health consequences range from increased risk of premature death due to serious chronic illness, like Hypertension and diabetes mellitus (DM), which reduces the overall quality of life. Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) produces long lasting control of Obesity as well as DM. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the control of obesity and DM. A prospective cohort study was conducted between the periods of January 2015 to March 2016. The criteria for selection were BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2 or BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2 with co-morbidities. All the patients were screened by a multidisciplinary team and operated by the same surgeon to avoid any procedural biasness. At each follow-up visit, weight loss and glycemic control status were evaluated. Out of 60 patients operated for morbid obesity, our focus was on those 18 patients, who were morbidly obese having Diabetes as the only comorbidity. Rest were having either no co-morbidity or multiples co-morbidity. Post operatively all patients were followed up and were given same diet plan for the first three months of the follow up. Post-operatively on follow-up, there was a significant change in all parameters, like weight reduction, BMI, Fasting Blood sugar level, Post Prandial Sugar Level. LSG is simple, effective and reproducible surgical method to treat obesity as well as DM2.

The aim of the presentation is to show the value of the radical excision of an interesting case of the retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Retroperitoneal sarcomas are malignant tumours arising from mesenchymal cells, which are usually located in muscle, fat, and connective tissues. One-third of malignant tumours located in the retroperitoneum are sarcomas, and approximately 15% of soft tissue sarcomas arise in the retroperitoneum.Complete resection is mandatory for the cure of liposarcoma. The authors reported a 65-year old male that presented with complaints of painless progressive distension of abdomen for the last 10 years, which was associated with. significant weight loss and loss of appetite. Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography of abdomen and CT angiography showed the features likely suggestive of liposarcoma. Patient underwent exploratory laparotomy with complete resection of the tumor. Histopathology of resected specimen revealed it to be a well differentiated liposarcoma. The management of retroperitoneal sarcomas consists of complete resection of the tumour, followed by adjuvant radiotherapy, reduces local recurrence but does not affect overall survival, and, combined with surveillance for early detection of recurrence or metastases, in our case.therapeutic embolization, proved to be useful preoperatively, allowing tumour shrinkage, and reduced blood loss during resection.

The aim and objective of the present work was to prepare and develop hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) nanoparticles for quick and complete release by nanonization technique to overcome the poor water solubility and bioavailability problems. The poor solubility of many drugs along with a slow dissolution rate is a major research and industrial problems for pharmaceutical scientists and industries who are included in pill disclosure and medication improvement. It has been accounted for that something like 40% of the mixes are defectively water dissolvable or basically insoluble in water. HCTZ nanoparticles were prepared by solvent evaporation method under ultra-sonication process. Prepared nanoparticles were evaluated for the yield, drug loading and entrapment efficiency studies. HCTZ nanoparticles were also characterized for drug and polymer interaction by using FT-IR and DSC. Morphological characteristics of the formulation were studied by particle size analysis and surface charge, XRD, and FE-SEM. Additionally, in vitro drug dissolution study and ex vivo drug diffusion study were performed. All the characterization studies together revealed that the ideal properties of HCTZ nanoparticles. From the study, we can conclude that the solvent evaporation method under ultra-sonication is a promising method to produce small, uniform and stable HCTZ nanoparticles.
