The article discusses research which examined the different methods to determine the characteristics of soil properties in the design of monopiles for offshore wind turbines. Topics discussed include a description of the cone penetration tests (CPT), statistical treatment of the data, pile-soil interaction modelled by the Winkler approach with non-linear p-y curves for the soil resistance and proposed guidelines for the estimation of the characteristics soil strengths.

The article discusses research which examined the pile-soil interaction (PSI) influence on the dynamic properties of offshore wind turbines (OWT) in shallow waters supported by jacket-type foundations. Topics discussed include some issues unsolved for utilization of jacket structures for OWTs and evaluation of the PSI effects on dynamic properties using Monte Carlo simulation.
