The combination of direct magnification with angiography extends the limits of visibility to fine vascular branches. Lesions not seen using conventional techniques can be detected. Utilizing a special tube, the technique is clinically feasible at the time of conventional angiography. This report describes the special equipment requirements and the technique used in obtaining magnification angiograms and presents some examples of the results obtained.

A new display format for the examination and study of myocardial wall motion parameters such as displacement, velocity, and acceleration has been developed which is suitable for mass screening of patients with suspected wall motion abnormalities. The physiological data from the display comes from videotape recorded fluoroscopy and from the ECG which is recorded synchronously with the television image on one of the audio channels of the videotape. The wall motion signal is obtained from the recorded images with a videodensitometer and displayed in pairs with the ECG, ventricular pressure, and other wall motion signals on an X-Y vectorscopc. In addition, the display is intensity modulated at a known rate to encode time information. The complex Lisajous patterns formed by the display give an immediate graphical presentation of the correlation between the paired parameters being plotted. Since the video recordings are obtained during routine cardiac fluoroscopy and the analysis made without further patient participation, there is no additional radiation hazard to the patient.

CARDIOVASCULAR stigmata are present in 30% to 60% of patients with Marfan's syndrome and dissecting aneurysm occurring in a medionecrotic aorta accounts for at least one third of the cardiovascular manifestations.1 In the past, the diagnosis of aortic dissection was either inferred from the clinical signs or made at autopsy.2,3 Angiography has not been widely used in the evaluation of these cases. Aneurysmal dilatation of the aortic sinuses of Valsalva and aneurysm of the ascending aorta have been demonstrated by contrast study.4The purpose of this paper is to report an aneurysm of the pulmonary artery, aneurysm of the ascending aorta, and dissection in the entire aorta in a patient with Marfan's syndrome.
