Influence of milk replacer feeding to lambs was assessed on pre-weaning growth and nutrient utilization. Seven day old Malpura lambs (45) were divided into three groups of fifteen lambs in each group and were fed ad lib. creep mixture and roughage (C-0; Control) along with free suckling of dam. Unlike control (C-0), the lambs in two treatment groups were additionally fed with gelatinized (MR-G) and non-gelatinized (MR-Ng) milk replacer with limited suckling from their dam, which were manually milked once in the afternoon (4.00 PM). The MR was fed at 100 ml/lamb/day for first fifteen days and thereafter at 250 ml/lamb/day. The experimental feeding including a digestibility trial was continued until weaning at 3 months of age. Weaning weight, total gain and ADG was higher in MR-G compared to MR-Ng and control and there was 15.25% improvement in MR-G than the control. A lower value of FCR indicated 10.5% improvement in MR-G than the control. The plane of nutrition and digestibility of DM, OM, CP, NDF, hemicellulose was similar in all the three groups. The total milk collected/ewe in MR-G and MR-Ng group was 9.0 kg each that fetched ₹ 360 and it reduced the production cost to ₹ 51.0 in MR-G, 53.1 in MRNg compared to ₹ 68.1 in C-0. One time milking of ewes and replenishment with additional milk replacer to lambs promises higher gain and introduction of the gelatinization procedure ensures further improvement in FCR and ease in delivery to lambs. The article discusses research that aims to verify the possibility of preserving bulk tank milk for a week under cooling and freezing. Study highlights include descriptive statistics conducted for every milk treatments and evaluation months, a chart that outlines the monthly average of fat, protein, lactose, and total solids contents, and strong correlation showed by the ethanol stability test with the titratable acidity and the potential of hydrogen of milk.

The primary objective of this trial was to evaluate the effect of energy and protein content in the diet on the FA profile of milk fat from ewes, especially polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega 3 (C18:3, EPA, C22:3, C22:5 and DHA) and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid C 18:2 n-9c, 1 lt). A secondary objective was to effect with different level energy and protein on diet of characteristics fermentation ruminal, yield and quality of sheep milk. Consequently, experimental diets were constituted by a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of energy level in diets (Low - 0,90 UFL/kg DM vs. High - 0,97 UFL/kg DM) and protein level (Low - 14% CP vs. High - 16% Cl). On a dry matter (DM) basis, forage: concentrate ratios were 73:27 (low energy diets) and 57:43 (high energy diets). Increased levels of protein and energy of diet in lactating sheep, influenced positively the quantitative and qualitative production of milk and, in particular, the profile of fatty acids. Nutritional quality of sheep milk has been improved as a result of declining the degree of fats saturation, by reducing the proportion SFA which are responsible for the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in humans, and increasing share of PUFA and especially those of Omega 3 type (C 18:3, EPA, C22:3, C22:5 and DHA) and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid - C18:2 n-9cis, 11trans), which have an important role in preventing and combating cardiovascular disease, and CLA has anticancerous and antidiabetic effect. The highest milk quality, analyzed through the influence on human health, determined by a high content of Omega 3 fatty acids and CLA, was obtained from sheep fed with a ration of high energy and protein level (0,97 UFL/kg and 16% CP of DM). At the same lot it has been also recorded the best proportion PUFA n-6/n-3 and the lowest atherogenicity index of milk fats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to update the values concerning nutritional components for different sheep breeds: Merinos de Cluj, Ţurcana and Ţigaie. The breed of sheep affected the composition of milk. It was found that protein content of Ţurcana has values between 5.79-7.14%, Ţigaie 5.62-7.0% and Mermos de Cluj 4.84-7,72%. The processing performance of the milk is mainly dependent of protein content (renneting time, rate of formation and consistency of the curd) so the cheese makers are interested to use even Merinos de Cluj milk well known as a wool sheep. The fat content is highest in Ţurcana milk (7.80-12.02%) and lowest in Merinos de Cluj (4.55-9.56%). The research has been done on individual milk samples received from 10 individual sheep. The animals were of second lactation and had been bred in the Cluj County and the analysis has been done in 2007 and 2008, at the beginning and at the end of lactation respectively. The free accomodation system for dairy cows, without the constraints imposed by the tie system, offer the moving possibility for each animal in the proper space limits in order to assuring the rest, the circulation, the foraging and the watering. The technics development lead to the mechanization and to the automation of some production processes intended to facilitate the farmers work. So, it is imposed the interfere also in the accomodation system when we design the new investments. The milking centralization is one of the tools that can make more efficient the milk production, concuring to the increasing of the work productivity, to the decreasing of the concentrates consumption, to a good hygiene, and to the udder health. The milker is an important source of sepsis for milk, with pathogen bacteria that can be found on hands, under nails or in the personnel's skin fold. That's why the milker must strictly respect hygiene rules: clean gown, covered beads, hands washed with warm water and soap and their total disinfection. The article presents a summary of a study on the effect of dietary supplementation of nursing ewes with saponified sunflower oil on dry matter (DM) intake, milk production and rumenal metabolism. It reveals that the said supplementation has resulted to the decrease of DM intake by 20.17% and diminished concentrations of NH3-N in the rumen. It further suggests that protein in food should be fed to ewes in order to obtain favourable results on livestock productivity.

The research was performed in sheep conventional, conversion and organic certified farms, 12 by each category, before and after milking, including: The hygiene of the mammary gland and milking men hands was estimated by the presence of the: coliphorm bacteria/1 mL washing liquid, Salmonella/5 mL washing liquid and coagulaso-positive staphylococcus/4 mL washing liquid. The hygiene of the milking duishes, was determined based on UFC/cm² and presence of the coliphorms/10 cm². 2 milking houses, 16 sheep and 4 milking dishes by farm were examined. The data were interpreted according to the M.S. Order no.975/1998 and were grouped in: good and very good, middle and precarious hygienic conditions (Table 1). Our research show that in organic certified farms, the hygienic conditions recorded during milking are superior compared to the other types of farms, concerning the hygiene of the milking men and milking dishes, especially. However, deficiencies concerning the hygiene of the mammary gland and number of milk samples with more than 3 millions UFC/mL and over 2 millions SC/mL were recorded. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
