- Abstract
Disease-specific changes in tumors and other diseased tissues are an important target of research because they provide clues about the pathophysiology of the disease as well as uncover potentially useful markers for diagnosis and treatment. Here, we report a new cyclic peptide, CESPLLSEC (CES), that specifically accumulated (homed) in intracranial U87MG and the WT-GBM model of glioblastoma (GBM) from intravenous (IV) injection, and associated with the vasculature. Affinity chromatography of U87MG tumor extracts on insolubilized CES peptide identified Synaptosomal Associated Protein 25 (SNAP25) as a candidate target molecule (receptor) for CES. Several results supported the identification of SNAP25 as the CES receptor. IV-injected FAM-CES colocalized with SNAP25 in the tumors, and direct binding studies showed specific binding of the CES peptide to recombinant human SNAP25. A CES peptide–drug conjugate designed for photodynamic therapy showed selective cytotoxicity to SNAP25+glioblastoma cell lines. Specific accumulation of systemically injected anti-SNAP25 antibody in U87MG glioblastoma and labeling of intact U87MG cells with anti-SNAP in flow cytometry showed that SNAP25 is available from the circulation but not in normal tissues and that it is present at the cell surface. Using an array of ECM proteins and surface plasmon resonance revealed that SNAP25 binds moderately to collagen V and strongly to collagen VI. Modeling studies suggested that CES and collagen VI compete for the same binding site on SNAP25. Our results introduce CES as a valuable targeting peptide for drug delivery and its receptor SNAP25 as a possible molecular marker of interest for glioblastoma.

- Abstract
The aim is to assess performance characteristics in jumps and functionality in participants with patellar tendinopathy and compare changes with various tendinopathy treatments in the short and medium term. As a secondary objective, the study aims to verify the relationship between changes in knee functionality assessed by the VISA-P and jump capacity in the different treatment groups. A double-blinded randomized controlled trial. Recruitment was conducted at sport clubs, with 48 participants with patellar tendinopathy included in the study. Participants were randomized into groups: dry needling (DN), percutaneous electrolysis (PNE), and sham needling as the control group (CG), all combined with eccentric exercise (EE). Functionality and performance during jumps, including squat jump (SJ) and counter movement jump (CMJ), were assessed. Significant differences were found in functionality between the pre-test and post-test evaluations, as well as between the pre-test and follow-up evaluations, in all three groups (p < 0.001). The DN group experienced an improvement in eccentric power (p = 0.021). A moderate correlation was found between the pre-test and post-test changes in functionality and SJ maximum concentric force (r = 0.63, p < 0.01, CI: 0.1; 0.8), CMJ maximum concentric force (r = 0.52, p = 0.05, CI: − 0.01; 0.8), and CMJ eccentric power in the DN group (r = 0.63, p = 0.01, CI: 0.1; 0.8). Eccentric exercise could be effective in improving functionality in patellar tendinopathy and DN could improve eccentric power in jumps performance. Moreover, the DN group experienced an increase in functionality that correlated with the improvements found in jump performance in eccentric power and concentric strength. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study is to compare the results of a rapid stabilometric platform test with traditional clinical scales to assess the clinical evolution of heterogeneous patients with balance disorders during rehabilitation treatment. The 67 participating vertigo patients underwent two assessment sessions, one before starting rehabilitation treatment and one after starting treatment. In each session, six static balance assessment tests with the stabilometric platform were accomplished. The centre of pressure (COP) measured by the device, was processed using the MCQBalance method, that transforms the signal into clinical interpretable results. To compare the results, three medical diagnostic tests were conducted and a methodical flag system to classify their results was proposed. The agreement rises until 85.71% with a contingency coefficient of 0.751 and a Kappa of 0.775. The platform showed a sensitivity of 100% with a specificity of 72.99%. Furthermore, it was not found false negatives in the platform. The stabilometric platform provided valuable assistance in the diagnosis of the evolution of balance pathology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract

- Abstract
Sarcopenia, the gradual and generalized loss of muscle mass and function with ageing, is one of the major health problems in older adults, given its high prevalence and substantial socioeconomic implications. Despite the extensive efforts to reach consensus on definition and diagnostic tests and cut‐offs for sarcopenia, there is an urgent and unmet need for non‐invasive, specific and sensitive biomarkers for the disease. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are present in different biofluids including plasma, whose cargo reflects cellular physiology. This work analysed EV proteome in sarcopenia and robust patients in the search for differentially contained proteins that can be used to diagnose the disease. Plasma small EVs (sEVs) from a total of 29 robust controls (aged 73.4 ± 5.6 years; 11 men and 18 women) and 49 sarcopenic patients (aged 82.3 ± 5.4 years; 15 men and 34 women) aged 65 years and older were isolated and their cargo was analysed by proteomics. Proteins whose concentration in sEVs was different between sarcopenic and robust patients were further validated using ELISA. The concentration of these candidates was correlated to the EWGSOP2 sarcopenia tests for low muscle strength and low physical performance, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were carried out to evaluate their diagnostic power, sensitivity and specificity. Proteomic analysis identified 157 sEVs proteins in both sarcopenic and robust samples. Among them, 48 proteins had never been reported in the ExoCarta nor Vesiclepedia databases. Statistical analysis revealed eight proteins whose concentration was significantly different between groups: PF4 (log2 FC = 4.806), OIT3 (log2 FC = −1.161), MMRN1 (log2 FC = −1.982), MASP1 (log2 FC = −0.627), C1R (log2 FC = 1.830), SVEP1 (log2 FC = 1.295), VCAN (FC = 0.937) and SPTB (log2 FC = 1.243). Among them, platelet factor 4 (PF4) showed the lowest concentration while Complement C1r subcomponent (C1R) increased the most in sarcopenic patients, being these results confirmed by ELISA (P= 1.07E‐09 and P= 0.001287, respectively). The concentrations of candidate proteins significantly correlated with EWGSOP2 tests currently used. ROC curve analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.8921 and 0.7476 for PF4 and C1R, respectively. Choosing the optimal for PF4, 80% sensitivity and 85.71% specificity was reached while the optimal cut‐off value of C1R would allow sarcopenia diagnosis with 75% sensitivity and 66.67% specificity. Our results support the determination of EV PF4 and C1R as plasma diagnostic biomarkers in sarcopenia and open the door to investigate the role of the content of these vesicles in the pathogeny of the disease.

- Abstract
Several conjugates between folic acid and a series of kinetically stable lanthanide complexes have been synthesized, using amide coupling and azide–alkyne cycloaddition methodologies to link the metal-binding domain to folate through a variety of spacer groups. While all these complexes exhibit affinity for the folate receptor, it is clear that the point of attachment to folate is essential, with linkage through the γ-carboxylic acid giving rise to significantly enhanced receptor affinity. All the conjugates studied show affinities consistent with displacing biological circulating folate derivatives, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, from folate receptors. All the complexes exhibit luminescence with a short-lived component arising from ligand fluorescence overlaid on a much longer lived terbium-centered component. These can be separated using time-gating methods. From the results obtained, the most promising approach to achieve sensitized luminescence in these systems requires incorporating a sensitizing chromophore close to the lanthanide.

Across much of the eastern United States, oak forests are undergoing mesophication as shade‐tolerant competitors become more abundant and suppress oak regeneration. Given the historical role of anthropogenic surface fires in promoting oak dominance, prescribed fire has become important in efforts to reverse mesophication and sustain oaks. In 2000 we established the Ohio Hills Fire and Fire Surrogate (FFS) study to examine whether repeated prescribed fire (Fire), mechanical partial harvest (Mech), and their combined application (Mech + Fire) reduced the dominance of subcanopy mesophytic competitors, increased the abundance of large oak–hickory advance regeneration, created a more diverse and productive ground‐layer flora, and produced fuel beds more conducive to prescribed fire, reducing the risk of high‐severity wildfire. Here we report on the ~20‐year effects of treatments on vegetation and fuels and examine the support for interactive effects across a topographic‐moisture and energy gradient. In general, we found that Fire and Mech + Fire treatments tended to reverse mesophication while the Mech‐only treatment did not. The moderate and occasionally high‐intensity fires resulted in effects that were ultimately very similar between the two fire treatments but were modulated by topography with increasing fire severity on drier sites. In particular, we found support for an interaction effect between treatment and topography on forest structure and tree regeneration responses. Fire generally reduced mesophytic tree density in the midstory and sapling strata across all site conditions, while leading to substantial gains in the abundance of large oak–hickory advance regeneration on dry and intermediate landscape positions. Fire also promoted ground‐layer diversity and created compositionally distinct communities across all site conditions, primarily through the increased richness of native perennial herbs. However, the fire had limited effects on fine surface fuel loading and increased the loading of large woody fuels, potentially increasing the risk of high‐severity wildfire during drought conditions. We conclude that two decades of repeated fires, with and without mechanical density reduction, significantly shifted the trajectory of mesophication across most of the landscape, particularly on dry and intermediate sites, highlighting the capacity of a periodic fire regime to sustain eastern oak forests and promote plant diversity but modulated by topography. - Abstract
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a B-cell neoplasm with a heterogeneous clinical behavior. In 5–10% of patients the disease transforms into a diffuse large-B cell lymphoma known as Richter transformation (RT), which is associated with dismal prognosis. Here, we aimed to establish patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models to study the molecular features and evolution of CLL and RT. We generated two PDXs by injecting CLL (PDX12) and RT (PDX19) cells into immunocompromised NSG mice. Both PDXs were morphologically and phenotypically similar to RT. Whole-genome sequencing analysis at different time points of the PDX evolution revealed a genomic landscape similar to RT tumors from both patients and uncovered an unprecedented RT subclonal heterogeneity and clonal evolution during PDX generation. In PDX12, the transformed cells expanded from a very small subclone already present at the CLL stage. Transcriptomic analysis of PDXs showed a high oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and low B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling similar to the RT in the patients. IACS-010759, an OXPHOS inhibitor, reduced proliferation, and circumvented resistance to venetoclax. In summary, we have generated new RT-PDX models, one of them from CLL cells that mimicked the evolution of CLL to RT uncovering intrinsic features of RT cells of therapeutical value.

- Abstract
Understanding mortality causes is important for the conservation of endangered species, especially in small and isolated populations inhabiting anthropized landscapes where both natural and human-caused mortality may hinder the conservation of these species. We investigated the mortality causes of 53 free-ranging brown bears (Ursus arctos) found dead between 1998 and 2023 in the Cantabrian Mountains (northwestern Spain), a highly human-modified region where bears are currently recovering after being critically threatened in the last century. We detected natural traumatic injuries in 52.63% and infectious diseases in 39.47% of the 38 bears for which the mortality causes were registered, with 21.05% of these cases presenting signs of both infectious diseases and traumas. More specifically, almost 30% of the bears died during or after intraspecific fights, including sexually selected infanticide (10.53%). In addition, primary infectious diseases such as infectious canine hepatitis, distemper, clostridiosis and colibacillosis caused the death of 15.79% of the bears. The number of direct human-caused deaths (i.e., shooting, poisoning, snare) decreased over the study period. This study also reveals three new mortality causes triggered by pathogens, two of which—Clostridium novyi and verotoxigenic Escherichia coli—not previously described in ursids, and the other one, canine distemper virus, never reported in brown bears as cause of death. New management strategies for the conservation of Cantabrian bears, which are urgently needed due to the rapid expansion of the population, should consider the mortality causes described in this study and must promote further research to elucidate how the high prevalence of infectious diseases may threaten the current recovery of the population. Background: Virtual reality (VR) interventions, based on cognitive behavioral therapy principles, have been proven effective as complementary tools in managing obesity and have been associated with promoting healthy behaviors and addressing body image concerns. However, they have not fully addressed certain underlying causes of obesity, such as a lack of motivation to change, low self-efficacy, and the impact of weight stigma interiorization, which often impede treatment adherence and long-term lifestyle habit changes. To tackle these concerns, this study introduces the VR self-counseling paradigm, which incorporates embodiment and body-swapping techniques, along with motivational strategies, to help people living with obesity effectively address some of the root causes of their condition. Objective: This study aims to assess the clinical efficacy of ConVRself (Virtual Reality self-talk), a VR platform that allows participants to engage in motivational self-conversations. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 68 participants from the bariatric surgery waiting list from the obesity unit of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain. Participants were assigned to 1 of 3 groups: a control group (CG), which only received treatment as usual from the obesity unit; experimental group 1 (EG1), which, after intensive motivational interviewing training, engaged in 4 sessions of VR-based self-conversations with ConVRself, and underwent embodiment and body-swapping techniques; and experimental group 2 (EG2), which engaged in 4 VR-based sessions led by a virtual counselor with a prerecorded discourse, and only underwent the embodiment technique. In the case of both EG1 and EG2, the VR interventions were assisted by a clinical researcher. Readiness to change habits, eating habits, and psychological variables, as well as adherence and satisfaction with ConVRself were measured at baseline, after the intervention, 1 week after the intervention, and 4 weeks after the intervention. Results: Regarding the primary outcomes, EG1 (24/68, 35%) and EG2 (22/68, 32%) showed significant improvements in confidence to lose weight compared to the CG (22/68, 32%) at all assessment points (β=−.16; P =.02). Similarly, EG1 demonstrated a significant increase after the intervention in readiness to exercise more compared to the CG (β=−.17; P =.03). Regarding the secondary outcomes, EG1 participants showed a significant reduction in uncontrolled eating (β=.71; P =.01) and emotional eating (β=.29; P =.03) compared to the CG participants, as well as in their anxiety levels compared to EG2 and CG participants (β=.65; P =.01). In addition, participants from the experimental groups reported high adherence and satisfaction with the VR platform (EG1: mean 59.82, SD 4.00; EG2: mean 58.43, SD 5.22; d =0.30, 95% CI −0.30 to 0.89). Conclusions: This study revealed that using VR self-conversations, based on motivational interviewing principles, may have benefits in helping people with obesity to enhance their readiness to change habits and self-efficacy, as well as reduce dysfunctional eating behaviors and anxiety. - Abstract
Cerebral edema frequently develops in the setting of brain infection and can contribute to elevated intracranial pressure, a medical emergency. How excess fluid is cleared from the brain is not well understood. Previous studies have shown that interstitial fluid is transported out of the brain along perivascular channels that collect into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)–filled subarachnoid space. CSF is then removed from the central nervous system through venous and lymphatic routes. The current study tested the hypothesis that increasing lymphatic drainage of CSF would promote clearance of cerebral edema fluid during infection with the neurotropic parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Fluorescent microscopy and magnetic resonance imaging was used to show that C57BL/6 mice develop vasogenic edema 4 to 5 weeks after infection with T. gondii. Tracer experiments were used to evaluate how brain infection affects meningeal lymphatic function, which demonstrated a decreased rate in CSF outflow in T. gondii–infected mice. Next, mice were treated with a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C–expressing viral vector, which induced meningeal lymphangiogenesis and improved CSF outflow in chronically infected mice. No difference in cerebral edema was observed between mice that received VEGF-C and those that rececived sham treatment. Therefore, although VEGF-C treatment can improve lymphatic outflow in mice infected with T. gondii, this effect does not lead to increased clearance of edema fluid from the brains of these mice.

- Abstract
One concern about the use of normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in controlled donation after the circulatory determination of death (cDCD) is that the brain may be perfused. We aimed to demonstrate that certain technical maneuvers preclude such brain perfusion. A nonrandomized trial was performed on cDCD donors. In abdominal normothermic regional perfusion (A-NRP), the thoracic aorta was blocked with an intra-aortic occlusion balloon. In thoracoabdominal normothermic regional perfusion (TA-NRP), the arch vessels were clamped and the cephalad ends vented to the atmosphere. The mean intracranial arterial blood pressure (ICBP) was invasively measured at the circle of Willis. Ten cDCD donors subject to A-NRP or TA-NRP were included. Mean ICBP and mean blood pressure at the thoracic and the abdominal aorta during the circulatory arrest were 17 (standard deviation [SD], 3), 17 (SD, 3), and 18 (SD, 4) mmHg, respectively. When A-NRP started, pressure at the abdominal aorta increased to 50 (SD, 13) mmHg, while the ICBP remained unchanged. When TA-NRP was initiated, thoracic aorta pressure increased to 71 (SD, 18) mmHg, but the ICBP remained unmodified. Recorded values of ICBP during NRP were 10 mmHg. In conclusion, appropriate technical measures applied during NRP preclude perfusion of the brain in cDCD. This study might help to expand NRP and increase the number of organs available for transplantation.

- Abstract
We propose a novel formulation for approximating reachable sets through a minimum discounted reward optimal control problem. The formulation yields a continuous solution that can be obtained by solving a Hamilton–Jacobi equation. Furthermore, the numerical approximation to this solution is the unique fixed-point to a contraction mapping. This allows for more efficient solution methods that are not applicable under traditional formulations for solving reachable sets. Lastly, this formulation provides a link between reinforcement learning and learning reachable sets for systems with unknown dynamics, allowing algorithms from the former to be applied to the latter. We use two benchmark examples, double integrator, and pursuit-evasion games, to show the correctness of the formulation as well as its strengths in comparison to previous work.

- Abstract
In the ongoing battle against infectious diseases, innovative nanotextured antipathogenic coatings provide promising avenues for preventing pathogens from spreading. Understanding their interactions at the micro/nanoscale is crucial for improving their design and efficacy. This work proposes a model for the interaction between pathogens and nanotextured antipathogenic coated surfaces. For this purpose, the forces and deformations experienced by pathogens upon contact with nanotextured surfaces are studied. To achieve this goal, a computational model based on the molecular dynamics software ESPResSo and, particularly, the Object-In-Fluid implementation, has been developed, extending the previous works of I. Jančigova et al. and G. Lazzini et al. More specifically, a Staphylococcus Aureus bacterium is modelled as an elastic cell represented by a triangular mesh and immersed in a computational Lattice-Boltzmann fluid. The size, shape and elastic properties of the pathogen cell are tuned, emulating those of Staphylococcus Aureus. A poly(methyl methacrylate) substrate laser-sintered with Ag nanoparticles is modelled with a triangular mesh, and the interactions between the cell and the substrate are introduced through a Lennard-Jones potential. The simulations performed reveal the influence of surface geometry and dispersion in the coated substrate, providing critical insights into designing more effective antibacterial surfaces that inhibit pathogen proliferation.

26. Continuity, Shared Responsibility, and Pentecostal Ethics: Conversions and Deliverances in Northwestern Mexico
- Author

- Abstract
Based on an analysis of the practice of deliverance from demons among Pentecostal converts, this paper explores the ideas of continuities and responsibility in conversions, which are part of a broader debate in the Anthropology of Christianity. To this end, we start with two ethnographic cases in northwestern Mexico. These cases are part of one’s ethnography undertaken between 2019 and 2020 and another between 2013 and 2018. Both studies show that we cannot speak of definitive ruptures or of an individualist transformation in the lives of Pentecostal converts. Although the variety of practices arising from conversions is not limited to deliverances, the latter have rarely been discussed in the debate about Christian individualism.

- Abstract
The environmental sustainability of the additive manufacturing (AM) process has been a trend in recent years. As well as the adoption of the AM process in traditional manufacturing environments to take advantage of the customization offered by this technology. Similar studies proposed the AM environmental sustainble analysis from a life cycle, circular economy and recycled material perspective. This study is centered in the environmental evaluation of the AM process adoption. The aim of this research is to characterize a model to predict the carbon footprint in an additively manufactured piece through the energy consumption in the printing process. Pieces with different shapes and positions were simulated using a printing simulator to test the model in a fused deposition modeling 3D printer and demonstrate the impact of different manufacturing strategies. The results show that the model proposed is capable of estimating the carbon footprint through the printing time and build volume of a given piece and predict the best printing position to diminish the CO2 emission in the process. Moreover, the model proposed allows managers and practitioners to analyze multiple fabrication scenarios for decision-making.

- Abstract
Nowadays, the energy consumption of machines is becoming increasingly important in production areas. This is mainly due to rising energy costs, but sustainability and energy savings also play an important role. This article aims to carry out a study on the energy efficiency of machine tools through the acquisition of energy data in real time. The proposed methodology is based on Patterson's definition of energy efficiency to analyse the energy consumption of the tools and evaluate its possible improvement through the development of productive, economic and environmental indicators. As a result of this study, the methodology developed is implemented in a machine tool for which the visualisation of these indicators is obtained in real time so that they can be used to help in decision-making to improve the energy efficiency of the tool. In short, this research seeks to provide a solution to one of the great challenges facing industry today due to the increase in energy costs, which is directly reflected in the cost of manufacturing.

- Abstract
Restrictions on the discharge of reverse osmosis brines containing phosphorus compounds that promote eutrophication are continuously increasing, and the related regulations are becoming more stringent. The low biodegradability and the phosphorous content of the phosphonate-based antiscalants are some of the first reasons for the growing concern about their environmental impact when discharged into natural ecosystems. To address this issue, a broad-spectrum biodegradable and phosphorus-free antiscalant has been developed for inhibiting scale formation in municipal reverse osmosis applications in both brackish water and seawater plants. The study evaluated the biodegradability of the green antiscalant, demonstrating it is inherently biodegradable. A dosing model for the green antiscalant and a scaling potential reduction model for sparingly soluble species model were developed. These models cover a wide range of scaling potentials applicable to both brackish water and seawater conditions, enabling precise calculation of the minimum required antiscalant dosage for effective protection against scaling. Experimental tests in a reverse osmosis pilot plant validated the effectiveness of the green antiscalant in preventing scaling. Membrane autopsies confirmed the successful prevention of scaling. The results evidenced that the green antiscalant is a sustainable and cost-effective solution for membrane scaling control in municipal reverse osmosis applications. Its use can contribute to reliable and efficient water supply while reducing the environmental impact compared to antiscalants containing phosphorous compounds.

- Abstract
During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, final-year nursing students in our country volunteered to join the healthcare workforce, and the challenges they faced were considerable. To explore the factors that foster resilience among final-year nursing students that joined the healthcare workforce during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive qualitative study with thematic analysis. Newly graduated nurses who had volunteered to join the health workforce during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic as final-year bachelor of nursing students. Twenty-two semi-structured interviews were conducted during January and February 2021. Interviews were conducted by nursing students as part of their final-year dissertation with the supervision of a researcher with experience on qualitative data collection methods. Thematic analysis of interview transcripts was performed using Weft QDA 1.0.1. The analysis revealed two main themes that described newly graduated nurses views regarding the factors that had enabled them to develop resilience when working on the frontline as final-year nursing students: (1) factors that helped them cope with adversity related with the identification and use of personal resources, feeling supported from others and professional recognition; and (2) factors that promoted learning such as guided reflection and the opportunity to share peer experiences. The identification and use of personal resources, recognition and support from others, guided reflection and sharing peer experiences appear to be the key factors in helping nursing students develop resilience in the face of challenging situations. Promoting these factors in the context of nurse education programmes will help to ensure that future professionals are better prepared to deal with the challenges that nurses face in clinical practice in their early career. • Personal resources, feeling supported, and guided reflection foster resilience • Professional recognition is important for coping with the demands of the nursing role. • Developing resilience helped newly graduated nurses to face challenging situations. • Strategies to foster resilience should be incorporated into nursing programmes. - Abstract
A new family of air-stable Mn and Re complexes bearing bidentate bis(1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene) ligands with the general formula [M(bis-triazolylidene)(CO)3X] (M = Mn or Re; X = Cl or Br), containing a methylene linker or a direct link between the two triazolylidene ligands, is presented. All complexes have been applied as catalysts for the N-alkylation of anilines with benzylic alcohols. The Mn complex bearing a bis-triazolylidene with a methylene bridge between the two triazolylidene fragments was shown to be a highly efficient catalyst, affording the corresponding amine in 92% yield in the presence of a low base loading (t-BuOK, 0.1 equiv). Comparison between Mn complexes bearing imidazolium- and triazolium-derived N-heterocyclic carbene ligands showed that Mn triazolylidenes displayed higher catalytic activity when a low base loading was used.

The article describes the behaviour of emotional psychological verbs in Catalan such as lamentar 'to regret' or odiar 'to hate', which participate in transitive sentences with an experiencer subject (SubjExp verbs). Like other sentences with emotional verbs, they have two characteristics: constraint of postverbal bare noun phrases and construction with a subordinate clause in subjunctive. These are features that differentiate them from other non-emotive psychological predicates and that determine which meanings of the verb behave as SubjExp. Within the verbal group, there are specific behaviours of predicates that admit an accusative object of personal reference (SubjExp(+pers) verbs such as odiar 'to hate') and those that do not admit them (SubjExp(-pers) verbs such as lamentar 'to regret'). Some verbs, such as admirar 'to admire' or menysprear 'to despise', may have another lexical meaning that allows them to express a change of state in the experiencer, such as a patient, and to be part of a group of emotional psychological verbs other than SubjExp.
