This study aimed to explore the perspectives of public-school students who were hesitant to use the Darsak Educational Platform (DEP) during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to understand their real-life experiences. To achieve the aim of the study, the researchers employed a qualitative approach in its phenomenological form. The study sample consisted of 12 male and female students from various public schools in Jordan. The participants were chosen using an intentional method. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data. The study’s findings revealed a variety of causes that contributed to students’ resistance to using DEP. These causes include the students’ lack of readiness to learn through DEP, the DEP’s failure to comply with international design standards, the inadequate physical and technical teaching environment, and the limited digital competencies of teachers needed in the virtual learning environment. Given the findings of this research, the researchers advise that additional consideration should be given to the design of DEP. Adipose tissue exhibits remarkable plasticity with capacity to change in size and cellular composition under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. The emergence of single-cell transcriptomics has rapidly transformed our understanding of the diverse array of cell types and cell states residing in adipose tissues and has provided insight into how transcriptional changes in individual cell types contribute to tissue plasticity. Here, we present a comprehensive overview of the cellular atlas of adipose tissues focusing on the biological insight gained from single-cell and single-nuclei transcriptomics of murine and human adipose tissues. We also offer our perspective on the exciting opportunities for mapping cellular transitions and crosstalk, which have been made possible by single-cell technologies. Maniyadath et al. provide a comprehensive overview of recent insights gained from single-cell studies into the biology and cellular heterogeneity of adipose tissues. Current guidelines emphasize the use of 100% oxygen during cardiopulmonary resuscitation after cardiac arrest. When patients are ventilated for variable periods after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), hyperoxia causes increased morbidity and mortality by overproduction of reactive oxygen species. Various patient, volunteer, and animal studies have shown the harmful effects of hyperoxia. This mini-review article aims to expand the potential clinical spectrum of hyperoxia on individual organ systems leading to organ dysfunction. A framework to achieve and maintain normoxia after ROSC is proposed. Despite the harmful considerations of hyperoxia in critically ill patients, additional safety studies including dose-effect, level and onset of the reactive oxygen species effect, and safe hyperoxia applicability period after ROSC, need to be performed in various animal and human models to further elucidate the role of oxygen therapy after cardiac arrest. The objective of the present work is to assess the potential of different passive design strategies using the bio-climatic approach in residential spaces across the composite climate in India. For this purpose, a modified building bio-climatic design chart based on composite climate specific adaptive thermal comfort zone (CZ) has been used. The climates of four major cities namely Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Hyderabad, have been selected for bio-climatic analysis using typical meteorological year (TMY) data. The results from the bio-climatic analysis showed that comfort can vary 30% to 60% of the total time during summer and 43% to 70% of the total time during the winter season, respectively. During warmer half of the year (March-October) natural ventilation, sun shading, and direct evaporative cooling proved to be the better choice for passive cooling. However, passive solar heating only provides the noticeable result for improving indoor comfort conditions during the colder half of the year (November-February) for all selected cities. The unexpected increase in demand and persistent shortage of fossil fuels continues the search for an alternative source of power. Solar energy is one of the sustainable and renewable sources of power that encouraged various researchers from all over the world. The production of food and its immediate consumption is the biggest problem to reduce the wastages of food. To overcome the wastage, drying is an excellent method to preserve the food grains, fruits and vegetables. For drying, conventional drying system is sun drying which is free and a renewable source of energy. But, there are various limitations e.g. rain, dust, animals, wind and insects. The use of solar dryers can eliminate these limitations significantly and enhance the productivity of farmers towards better revenue earned. This review attempts to provide in brief the recent developments to increase the temperature of drying chamber and applications of drying technology for different foods and agricultural produce, with particular emphasis on the modifications in the dryer and process conditions. The fertilisation is a tedious and expensive process, as generally carried out by traditional method which requires lots of manual efforts. Therefore, keeping in mind the needs of farmers and workers, it was proposed to design an electric power operated fertiliser spreading machine which would help them to work easily in an environmentally-friendly way. The performance of modified solid fertiliser spreading machine equipped with air blower was evaluated on the basis of parameters, i.e., spreading distance, fertiliser discharge rate, spreading time, and operational labour cost involved in the process. From the experiments, it was found that this machine can spread the fertiliser (urea) up to an 8 m distance with discharge rate of 1,050 gm/min, which is more than enough for fertilisation for almost all types of crops. Using FSM, reduction in time required for fertilisation (66%) and operational labour cost (70%) was also observed as compared to the traditional method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To know the prevalence of three-rooted mandibular first and second molars in an Indian population. Material and Methods: Intraoral periapical radiographs of 511 patients (299 male, 212 female) were screened. In total, 941 mandibular first molars and 833 mandibular second molars were interpreted to identify the presence of an additional root. The categorical variables obtained were represented as percentages. Fisher's exact test and Chi square test were applied for categorical variables. Results: In the present study, third root was seen in 40 (4.2%) mandibular first molars and 24 (2.8%) mandibular second molars out of 941 and 833 teeth examined respectively. An additional root was seen more often on the right side and was seen more in females. Conclusion: Consideration and identification of presence of an additional root in mandibular first and second molar teeth is significant to assure successful accomplishment of various dental treatment procedures. This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of primary and secondary students' parents in Jordan toward the distance learning process implemented in light of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. To achieve the study objectives, the researchers used the descriptive survey method to collect and analyze data and interpret the results. After developing the study instrument (questionnaire) and ensuring its validity and reliability, it was distributed to a selected sample, consisting of 470 parents, by random cluster method during the second semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. The study results show that primary and secondary students' parents were moderately satisfied with the distance learning process implemented in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the results reveal statistically significant differences in the parents' perceptions attributed to the variables of the child's grade, in favor of grades 5-7; teacher's gender, in favor of female teachers; and school type, in favor of private schools. In the current study, a numerical simulation for a three dimensional model of internal combustion (IC) engine consists of inlet valve, exhaust valve, inlet manifold and exhaust manifold, was carried out to analyse the HCCI and PCCI strategies using ANSYS 16.2. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was carried out for different swirl numbers and essentially moderate values of the engine speed. The converged results of both the combustion strategies were compared for different wall adjacent temperature, mass average static pressure, apparent heat release rate and mass average turbulent kinetic energy. The outcome of simulations reflected that a PCCI combustion strategy is better than HCCI combustion strategy at lower rpm, while at the moderate and higher values of engine rpm, HCCI combustion strategy demonstrated better performance in terms of temperature, pressure and turbulent kinetic energy. Echocardiography is a unique diagnostic tool for intraoperative monitoring and assessment of patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, there are high levels of interoperator variations in echocardiography interpretations that could lead to inaccurate diagnosis and incorrect treatment. Furthermore, anesthesiologists are faced with the additional challenge to interpret echocardiography and make decisions in a limited timeframe from these complex data. The need for an automated, less operator-dependent process that enhances speed and accuracy of echocardiography analysis is crucial for anesthesiologists. Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in the medical field and could help anesthesiologists analyze complex echocardiographic data while adding increased accuracy and consistency to interpretation. This review aims to summarize practical use of artificial intelligence in echocardiography and discusses potential limitations and challenges in the future for anesthesiologists. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the effect of using an innovative teaching strategy using a video tutorial on enhancing students' knowledge about medication reconciliation, and skills in identifying medication discrepancies. Methods: This is a one group pre-post interventional study that was conducted at the School of Pharmacy at Applied Science Private University. Sixty pharmacy students were invited to attend an educational sessions that involve watching a 6-minutes video tutorial. The first two levels of the Kirkpatrick's Model were used to evaluate the effectiveness of this training tool. Level 1 (Reaction) was assessed using a satisfaction questionnaire, while level 2 (Learning) was assessed using two criteria: 1) student acquired knowledge about medication reconciliation using a questionnaire and a knowledge score out of 13 was calculated for each student, and 2) student acquired skills in identifying medication discrepancies using a virtual case scenario. If the student was able to identify any of the four impeded discrepancies he/she rewarded 1 point for each identified discrepancy, but if they identified any incorrect discrepancy they scored a negative point. Results: Among the 60 students who registered to participate in the study, 49 attended the educational training (response rate 81.6%). The majority of them (n=44, 89.8%) were satisfied with the training process. Before the video tutorial, students showed an overall low knowledge score [4.08/13.0, SD 1.81], and low ability to identify discrepancies [0.72 identified discrepancies out of 4.0, SD 1.1]. Following the video tutorial, the overall knowledge score was improved (p<0.001), and students were able to identify more discrepancies after watching the video (p<0.001). Conclusion: In conclusion, video education has shown itself to be an effective method to educate pharmacy students.. This visualized method can be applied to other areas within pharmacy education. We encourage the integration of videos within the learning process to enhance students' learning experience and to support the traditional learning provided by the teaching staff. Objective: The present study aimed to explore faculty (i.e., professors of various ranks) opinions and views regarding the pediatric content in courses taught to pharmacy students in Jordan. Methods: Purposeful sampling was used to identify faculty from ten pharmacy schools. Participants were identified through their institutions' websites. After obtaining required approvals, twelve in-depth interviews were conducted, recorded, transcribed and analyzed using NVivo 11 Software. Interviews followed a previously prepared and validated interview guide. The interview guide covered various aspects of pediatric undergraduate education and training. Results: Twelve professors (eight assistants and four associate professors) agreed to take part in the study. Qualitative analysis revealed four themes each with regard to respondents' knowledge of the pediatric content and their students' competency in dealing with pediatric patients. The emerging themes were: the lack of pediatric content in their current curriculum, the need for exposing students to more courses teaching pediatrics, and future aspirations to deal with this, and implications on practice. Conclusions: This study highlights the deficiency of pediatric courses in pharmacy curriculum in Jordan. Respondent believed that this will have negative implications on pediatric pharmaceutical care and treatment efficacy and safety. It was thought that adding more pediatrics topics to undergraduate curricula, offering pediatric specialized postgraduate education, and implementing pre-registration training could alleviate the current situation. Background: There is no clear consensus about how best to prevent post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) following an accidental dural puncture in parturients. Our primary objective was to investigate whether the insertion of an intrathecal catheter following accidental dural puncture reduces the incidence of PDPH and therapeutic epidural blood patch.Methods: Anaesthetic records from January 2009 to December 2015 were reviewed retrospectively and parturients who had an accidental dural puncture and/or PDPH were identified. Data from those with a recognised dural puncture in whom an intrathecal catheter was inserted at the time of accidental dural puncture (ITC group) were compared to those without an intrathecal catheter (non-ITC group), as were outcomes of patients with an intrathecal catheter for ≥24 hours compared to <24 hours.Results: Of 94 recognised accidental dural punctures, 66 were in the ITC group (37 for ≥24 h) and 28 in the non-ITC group. In the ITC group, 22 (33.3%) required an epidural blood patch in comparison to 19 (67.9%) in the non-ITC group (P <0.01, 95% CI 12.5 to 52.0). In the ITC group, 62 (93.9%) developed PDPH in comparison to 28 (100%) in the non-ITC group (P=0.186, 95% CI -6.55 to 14.57). Intrathecal catheter insertion for ≥24 h obviated the need for an epidural blood patch in 28 (75.7%) parturients, compared to 13 (59.1%) if <24 h (P=0.184, 95% CI -7.08 to 39.72).Conclusion: Inserting an intrathecal catheter after a recognised accidental dural puncture significantly reduced the need for an epidural blood patch. Objective The spliced transcription factor Xbp1 (Xbp1s), a transducer of the unfolded protein response (UPR), regulates lipolysis. Lipolysis is stimulated by fasting when uridine synthesis is also activated in adipocytes. Methods Here we have examined the regulatory role Xbp1s in stimulation of uridine biosynthesis in adipocytes and triglyceride mobilization using inducible mouse models. Results Xbp1s is a key molecule involved in adipocyte uridine biosynthesis and release by activation of carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase 2, aspartate transcarbamylase, dihydroorotase (CAD), the rate-limiting enzyme for UMP biosynthesis. Adipocyte Xbp1s overexpression drives energy mobilization and protects mice from obesity through activation of the pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway. Conclusion These observations reveal that Xbp1s is a potent stimulator of uridine production in adipocytes, enhancing lipolysis and invoking a potential anti-obesity strategy through the induction of a futile biosynthetic cycle. Objective: This study aims to assess the views and attitudes of the general public towards the current role of pharmacists in Jordan. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional quantitative questionnaire-based study. After a thorough literature review on public perspectives of pharmaceutical care services, a draft questionnaire was designed. This questionnaire was examined and discussed in a focus group of invited public members and was amended accordingly to reach the final draft. The questionnaire was administered using a structured interview technique in which members of the public were asked a series of questions by a trained pharmacist. The study took a place over a period of six months, from January to June 2013. Individuals were recruited from urban and rural areas of Jordan. Results: A total of 1214 respondents were interviewed during the study. Of the respondents, 67.8% were female. Most of the respondent were married (64%) and had a university degree (88.5%). Approximately half of the respondents (55.1%) had no previous knowledge of pharmaceutical care. A relative majority of respondents considered the most important activity performed by pharmacists to be dispensing medications (46.2%), followed by patient counseling (34.6%). The majority of respondents (86.4%) believed that pharmacists have a role in providing healthcare services, and 68% of respondents reported that in order to serve their needs, a pharmacist must consider the patient's needs and engage patients in determining medication timing and options. Conclusions: The plurality of respondents believed in the importance of pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services. Introduction There is growing concerns regarding the use of medicines in children. Therefore, many strategies were implemented to improve such use and make safe and effective medicines more available for children. Enhancing interaction between parents and health care providers plays an important role in insuring the proper use of medicines. In order to optimize such interaction, the attitudes, beliefs and practices of parents toward medicine use in children need to be explored. Methods A validated questionnaire was administered via face to face interviews to 1000 parents attending pediatric outpatient clinics with their children in order to investigate their attitudes toward children's medicines. Results The majority of respondents (83.2%) were mothers. The majority participants (84.4%) agreed that medicines are necessary in treating illnesses, 80% of the parents had worries about the side effects and interactions of medicines, and 60% of the parents said they try to avoid giving medicines to their children. Moreover, parents in this study varied considerably in their views toward prescription and over-the- counter medicines. More than half of the participants (55.2%) declared that doctors in Jordan prescribe antibiotics to children too easily. Conclusion Participants had positive attitudes toward the necessity of medicines for ill children. However, a considerable proportion of the parents had negative attitudes toward children's medicines with respect to their side effects and interactions, their capability of disturbing the body's own capability of healing illnesses, their unnatural characteristic and other aspects related to medicines. Background With growing responsibility of the pharmacists in ensuring public health and safe medicine use, an understanding of the issues surrounding off-label prescribing is crucial to allow pharmacists to make informed decisions about such practice. The aim of this study is to assess the perceptions and attitudes of hospital based pharmacists toward off-label medicine dispensing to children. Methods After obtaining the required approvals, a validated questionnaire about off-label dispensing to pediatric patients was administered to 250 randomly selected hospital pharmacists. Results One hundred and fifty (150) completed questionnaires were returned. Less than half of the respondents (44%, n = 66) admitted to being familiar with the concept of off-label dispensing, claiming to have obtained this knowledge basically through their dispensing experience rather than education. A minority of respondents (36%, n = 54) reported dispensing off-label medicines within their practice knowingly. The majority of respondents had concerns regarding the efficacy (82%, n = 123) and safety (98%, n = 147) of off-label medicines. The most common reasons given by respondents for a dispensed prescription being off label were younger age than recommended (88%, n = 132). Most of respondents (94%, n = 141) claimed to double check the calculations of doses of medicines before dispensing off-label medicines and 60% (n = 90) of them felt that parents and guardians should be told when an off-label medicine has been prescribed for their children. Conclusion The majority of respondents were not familiar with the concept of offlabel medicines. While reporting to have gained their knowledge from their professional experience, only a minority of respondents reported knowingly dispensing off-label medicines for pediatric patients. Respondents indicated that manufacturing more appropriate formulations for pediatric patients would reduce such practices in this population. Having concerns regarding the efficacy and safety of off-label medicines used for pediatric patients, respondents felt that the use of off-label medicines would increase the likelihood of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Objective Zfp423 is a multi zinc-finger transcription factor expressed in preadipocytes and mature adipocytes in vivo . Our recent work has revealed a critical role for Zfp423 in maintaining the fate of white adipocytes in adult mice through suppression of the beige cell thermogenic gene program; loss of Zfp423 in mature adipocytes of adult mice results in a white-to-beige phenotypic switch. However, the exact requirements of Zfp423 in the fetal stages of early adipose development in vivo have not been clarified. Method Here, we utilize two models that confer adipose-specific Zfp423 inactivation during fetal adipose development ( Adiponectin -Cre; Zfp423 loxP/loxP and Adiponectin -rtTA; TRE-Cre; Zfp423 l oxP/loxP ). We assess the impact of fetal adipose Zfp423 deletion on the initial formation of adipose tissue and evaluate the metabolic consequences of challenging these animals with high-fat diet feeding. Results Deletion of Zfp423 during fetal adipose development results in a different phenotype than is observed when deleting Zfp423 in adipocytes of adult mice. Inactivation of Zfp423 during fetal adipose development results in arrested differentiation, specifically of inguinal white adipocytes, rather than a white-to-beige phenotypic switch that occurs when Zfp423 is inactivated in adult mice. This is likely explained by the observation that adiponectin driven Cre expression is active at an earlier stage of the adipocyte life cycle during fetal subcutaneous adipose development than in adult mice. Upon high-fat diet feeding, obese adipose Zfp423 -deficient animals undergo a pathological adipose tissue expansion, associated with ectopic lipid deposition and systemic insulin resistance. Conclusions Our results reveal that Zfp423 is essential for the terminal differentiation of subcutaneous white adipocytes during fetal adipose tissue development. Moreover, our data highlight the striking adverse effects of pathological subcutaneous adipose tissue remodeling on visceral adipose function and systemic nutrient homeostasis in obesity. Summary “Beige” adipocytes reside in white adipose tissue (WAT) and dissipate energy as heat. Several studies have shown that cold temperature can activate pro-opiomelanocortin-expressing (POMC) neurons and increase sympathetic neuronal tone to regulate WAT beiging. WAT, however, is traditionally known to be sparsely innervated. Details regarding the neuronal innervation and, more importantly, the propagation of the signal within the population of “beige” adipocytes are sparse. Here, we demonstrate that beige adipocytes display an increased cell-to-cell coupling via connexin 43 (Cx43) gap junction channels. Blocking of Cx43 channels by 18α-glycyrrhetinic acid decreases POMC-activation-induced adipose tissue beiging. Adipocyte-specific deletion of Cx43 reduces WAT beiging to a level similar to that observed in denervated fat pads. In contrast, overexpression of Cx43 is sufficient to promote beiging even with mild cold stimuli. These data reveal the importance of cell-to-cell communication, effective in cold-induced WAT beiging, for the propagation of limited neuronal inputs in adipose tissue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary The transcriptional regulators Ebf2 and Prdm16 establish and maintain the brown and/or beige fat cell identity. However, the mechanisms operating in white adipocytes to suppress the thermogenic gene program and maintain an energy-storing phenotype are less understood. Here, we report that the transcriptional regulator Zfp423 is critical for maintaining white adipocyte identity through suppression of the thermogenic gene program. Zfp423 expression is enriched in white versus brown adipocytes and suppressed upon cold exposure. Doxycycline-inducible inactivation of Zfp423 in mature adipocytes, combined with β-adrenergic stimulation, triggers a conversion of differentiated adiponectin -expressing inguinal and gonadal adipocytes into beige-like adipocytes; this reprogramming event is sufficient to prevent and reverse diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Mechanistically, Zfp423 acts in adipocytes to inhibit the activity of Ebf2 and suppress Prdm16 activation. These data identify Zfp423 as a molecular brake on adipocyte thermogenesis and suggest a therapeutic strategy to unlock the thermogenic potential of white adipocytes in obesity. Summary The expansion of white adipose tissue (WAT) in obesity involves de novo differentiation of new adipocytes; however, the cellular origin of these cells remains unclear. Here, we utilize Zfp423 GFP reporter mice to characterize adipose mural (Pdgfrβ + ) cells with varying levels of the preadipocyte commitment factor Zfp423. We find that adipose tissue contains distinct mural populations, with levels of Zfp423 distinguishing adipogenic from inflammatory-like mural cells. Using our “MuralChaser” lineage tracking system, we uncover adipose perivascular cells as developmental precursors of adipocytes formed in obesity, with adipogenesis and precursor abundance regulated in a depot-dependent manner. Interestingly, Pdgfrβ + cells do not significantly contribute to the initial cold-induced recruitment of beige adipocytes in WAT; it is only after prolonged cold exposure that these cells differentiate into beige adipocytes. These results provide genetic evidence for a mural cell origin of white adipocytes in obesity and suggest that beige adipogenesis may originate from multiple sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
