The author reports that a majority of people eat more than the recommended amount of salt on a daily basis. Eating an excessive amount of salt can lead people to have higher risks of contracting high blood pressure and heart disease. A majority of the salt people eat can be found in processed foods. Suggestions are provided on steps people can take to eat less salt, such as to drain and rinse canned beans and vegetables prior to eating them.
