Abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate the impact of pyrolysis temperature on the properties of biochars fabricated by sewage sludge. Increasing pyrolysis temperature from 300 to 900°С led to an increase of biochar pH between 8.4–11.8, ash content 60–75% as well as specific surface area 68–161 m2g–1. At the same time, there were reduced H, O, C, S, N contents, the H/C and O/C ratios. An increase in pyrolysis temperature enhanced the content of metals in biochars and reduced their bioavailability. XRD analysis confirmed a higher degree of metal-containing phases of formation in biochar with increasing pyrolysis temperature.

Prototypes of gas sensors with sensitive elements are made based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 films obtained directly on a substrate by immersion. The sensitivity of the prototypes to NO2and CO is assessed by simultaneously analyzing the capacitive and resistive response. It is shown that the functionalization of ZIF-8 films with layers of ZIF-67/ZIF-8 leads to an increase in the sensitivity of the sensor to NO2by more than 2 times compared to ZIF-8 films, and also allows CO detection. A sensor prototype based on ZIF-67/ZIF-8 films shows a resistive and capacitive sensitivity to NO2of 3 and 6% (for 45 ppm), 14 and 15% (for 85 ppm), and to CO of 9 and 7% (for 6 ppm), 15 and 10% (for 10 ppm). It is shown that parallel analysis of the capacitive and resistive response makes it possible to increase the accuracy of the analysis of the sensor response when exposed to various gases and can be used as the basis for a software interface for training sensor operation using artificial intelligence.

A cell for conducting operando measurements of X-ray absorption spectra for gas-sensitive sensors based on ZIF-8/ZIF-67 nanofilms is developed and fabricated. The cell is made of stainless steel, which makes it possible to study, among other things, corrosive gases. The possibility of heating and continuous measurement of the sensor temperature during an operando experiment to evaluate the dynamics of sorption in the processes of heating/cooling the cell. The isolated sensor holder has contacts for measuring the capacitance/resistance of the sensor. To measure X-ray absorption spectra for gas-sensitive gas-sensor materials, an X-ray transparent window is provided. For sensors based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 nanofilms, the X-ray absorption spectra are measured for the Kedges of Zn and Co, respectively. It is found that after exposure to NO2in a gas-sensitive material based on ZIF-8/ZIF-67 nanofilms, long-range order is lost and the film undergoes amorphization. The X-ray absorption spectra measured for a gas-sensitive material based on ZIF-8/ZIF-67 nanofilms before and after exposure to NO2indicate a change in the local atomic and electronic structures near cobalt atoms.

The process of the formation of gas-sensitive nanofilms ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 on substrates, which are glass chips with contact tracks formed on them, is studied. Multilayer ZIF-8/ZIF-67 nanofilms are grown on a substrate by cyclic layer-by-layer coating in solution. The film growth process is monitored after each cycle using X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. It is shown that at least three 30-minute growth cycles are required to form a strong, uniform ZIF-8 film. Additionally, the sensory properties of the obtained samples for the detection of carbon monoxide CO are studied.

Comorbidity of hypertension and hepatobiliary pathology has negative medical and social consequences, including an increase in the indicators of hospital admissions, disability and mortality. Objective: The aim was to study the occurrence of hypertension combined with hepatobiliary diseases depending on social status, gender and age in 2003-2017 and their influence on indicators of metabolic processes in patients with a therapeutic profile. Methods: A cross-sectional study using the inpatients’ medical record database of the clinic of Federal Research Centre for Basic and Translational Medicine (Novosibirsk, Russia), which collects demographics, diagnoses (using ICD-10 codes), procedures and examinations of all inpatients from 2003-2017 was conducted. The incidence of comorbidity of hypertension and hepatobiliary pathology depending on age, gender and social status, based on the analysis of 13496 medical records was examined. A comparative analysis of biochemical parameters characterizing the main types of metabolism (lipid, protein, carbohydrate and purine) was carried out in 3 groups of patients: with hypertension; with hepatobiliary pathology, and with a combined pathology. Results: During the years 2003-2005, there was the greatest frequency of this comorbidity in workers, in women, in the age group 60 years and older. In 2009-2017, the highest incidence was observed in the male administrative staff. In patients with this comorbidity, more pronounced changes in carbohydrate, protein, lipid and purine metabolism were found in comparison with groups of patients with isolated diseases. Conclusion: The results highlight the need to improve the system of prevention and treatment of comorbidity taking into account sex, age, occupation and features of metabolism.

An automated profile meter with vertical precision of ±0.2 mm was built to measure soil surface elevations. It consists of a laser distance meter mounted on an automated linear motion system. Operation and data logging is conducted wirelessly using a Bluetooth enabled mobile device. The profile meter performed well under various lighting conditions and on a variety of natural materials, with the exception of specular surfaces. It is inexpensive (<$1500), consists of readily available components, portable, and easy to setup in the field (<10 min). When measuring soil random roughness the profile meter was compared with a ground based terrestrial Light detection and ranging (lidar). The lidar systematically overestimated random roughness by approximately 15% compared with the profile meter.

The specific features of the formation of nanocrystalline ZnO films by pulsed laser deposition have been studied at different target–substrate distances. Expressions for estimating the temperature, particle concentration, and pressure in the laser ablation plume have been obtained. The effect of these parameters on electrical properties of nanocrystalline ZnO films grown by pulsed laser deposition has been estimated. The feasibility of the controlled growth of nanocrystalline ZnO films with a surface roughness of ~2–15 nm, grain diameters of 70–620 nm, and resistivities in the range of (1.75–5.3) × 10–3Ω cm has been demonstrated.

Results are reported on characterization of the field electron emission from diamond films grown by dc arc discharge plasma CVD onto Si substrates from CH4-H2gas mixtures. The field electron emission was observed at 15-20 V/µm. Emission current-voltage dependences were studied for films prepared at different CVD conditions and post-growth surface treatment/ modification (ultrathin metal and metal oxide coatings, MW-plasma processing, laser-induced surface graphitization). Features of emission current versus applied field behaviour (including a hysteresis phenomenon, vacuum arc initiation) and ultralow (0.1-0.5 eV) values of effective work function derived from Fowler-Nordheim plot fitting are discussed. A high vacuum scanning tunneling-field emission microscope was applied for simultaneous mapping of field electron emission inten-sity, topography and work function to study electronic and structural properties of field emission centers.

A set of physical methods is used to study the molecular, supramolecular, and topologic structure of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powders obtained from the gaseous phase of a monomer, tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) (C2F4), under ultraviolet irradiation in the presence of different initiators. Morphological diversity of particles forming powders is found; the effect of technological modes on the regularities of the morphological powder structure is established. The method of nuclear magnetic resonance (19F NMR) of broad lines allowed detecting the difference in the rotational dynamics of fragments of macromolecular chains in samples synthesized under different conditions.

The article gives a simplified model of water deironization on a filtering medium from natural clinoptilolite based on the results of pilot research and industrial tests. Advantages and disadvantages of the model were found. The possibilities of using this model have been shown in optimization of the water demanganization on natural modified clinoptilolite.

This article presents a choice of components for creating an effective pumping system for a YAG:Nd laser with a single-pulse energy of 60 mJ. An original design is proposed for the amplifier’s pump system. The efficiency of three types of illuminator for the amplifier are experimentally investigated: with selective dielectric coatings, with nonselective metallic coatings, and also with nonselective metallic coatings and composed of phosphate glass doped with samarium ions.

Abstract: We have presented an effective approximated solution of the problem of filtration of a suspension at the set pressure heads at the boundaries of the medium and linear kinetics of mass transfer. We have developed the procedure of determining the time of a filtration cycle based on two criteria controlling the quality of the filtrate and filter capacity. A detailed analysis of an impact of various factors of the indicated time has been conducted on numerous examples with typical initial data.

Abstract: We have investigated the ion-exchange sorption of cations of alkaline metals on saponite at the constant and varied ionic force. We have determined a selectivity series of exchange centers of saponite with respect to these cations. It has been shown that the exchange centers on the saponite surface are unequal in terms of energy. When using the Langmuir equation two types of energy centers sharply different by energy; these centers were referred to specific sections of the saponite structure.

This paper describes the operating principle and lists the main characteristics of a laser transmission module for the rangefinder intended for use in the far-space expedition to the Martian satellite Phobos, intended to start in 2011. A distinguishing feature of the laser included in the transmission module is rapid, nonmechanical switching of the direction of the directional pattern for measuring oblique ranges and computing the normal to the surface.

Abstract: We have obtained a simple approximated solution of the problem of filtrating of little concentrated suspension through a two-layer porous medium in linear kinetics of mass exchange. Its comparison was carried out with the known strict solution on numerous examples of calculating physicochemical characteristics and technological parameters, which demonstrated high accuracy of formulas proposed for the practice of water treatment.

Abstract: We have investigated adsorption isotherms of water vapors and heat of the wetting by water of a number of saponite samples with alkali, alkaline-earth and transition 3d-cations in the exchange complex. It has been shown that in a single-layer hydrates of a mineral of thickness Δd = 2.8–3.2 Å the formation of flat di-, tri-, and tetra-aquacations of metals takes place. In two-layer hydrates doubly charged exchange cations, as a rule, are surrounded by the octahedral of water molecules. Thermal stability of interlayer hydrates are small: they are destroyed as a result of thermovacuum treatment at 140°C. A decrease of the water heat wetting of the samples with transition metal ions in the exchange complex after thermovacuum treatment at 300°C is related to the irreversible merging of a part of the saponite structural layers as a result of the formation in interlayer intervals of waterless oxides of transition metals. The paper noted the ways of using saponite as an active supplement to the coagulant for increasing the quality of natural water treatment.

Abstract: The paper sets out the results of the quantitative analysis of the filtration of suspensions through a double layer medium in nonlinear and linear kinetics of mass exchange, the constant filtration rate carried out based on strict theoretical relationships from the first part of the general paper. Using numerous examples with typical initial data, regularities of the variations of the output concentration of the suspension were set, just as the time of losses of the pressure head and characteristic times and especially the duration of a filtration cycle depending on the important model parameters.

Abstract: The paper has presented strict theoretical relationships for calculating volumetric concentrations of a sediment and suspension, head losses and characteristic times (medium protection action and the achievement of maximum allowable head losses) in the multilayer medium in nonlinear kinetics of mass transfer and constant filtration rate. In addition, in the particular case of the two-layer medium similar formulas have been given as applied to linear kinetics.

Abstract: Impact linear polarization in solar flares is studied with the Large Solar Vacuum Telescope (LSVT) using the spectral polarimetric method. This method makes it possible to minimize the effect of instrumental polarization with an error of up to 10−2 owing to the normalization of the spectral line intensity to the continuum spectrum intensity with negligible linear polarization. As a result, the Hα line intensity in two orthogonally polarized spectral stripes coincides in the absence of solar polarization. However, in the presence of linear polarization in a flare, the spectral polarimetric method does not rule out that the error can be present in determining the Stokes parameters Q and U because of their possible relative “leakage.” Linear instrumental polarization of LSVT has been performed using polaroid rotation before the major mirror. Twelve elements of a telescope matrix, characterizing linear polarization, have been determined. The usage of a matrix makes it possible to specify the observed Q and U values accurate to 10−3 of their magnitude.

Abstract: The article presents a number of formulas for relative volume concentrations of the suspension and sediment, head loss in a uniform medium obtained as a result of a strict decision of mathematical problems of filtration of a constant discharge with linear and nonlinear mass-exchange kinetics. The procedure of accurate computation of the relative filter run time based on indicated formulas on the basis of maximum admissible quality of water purification and head loss in the medium. Using numerous typical examples we investigated the impact of the initial concentration of the suspension and sorption properties of the filtration material on the time of the filter efficient performance.

Abstract: Studies of the structural and magneto-optical properties of nanogranular Co-Ti-O films prepared under conditions of the solid-state reaction with oxygen exchange in the CoO/Ti layered structures are presented. The formation of granular films with compositions near or below the percolation threshold is shown. The specific features of the magneto-optical spectra of the prepared films as compared to the spectra of continuous metallic films are revealed.

A multi‐tracer method employing rare earth elements (REE) was used to determine sediment yield and to track sediment movement in a small semiarid watershed. A 0.33‐ha watershed near Tombstone, AZ was divided into five morphological units, each tagged with one of five REE oxides. Relative contribution of each unit to the total sediment yield was determined by collecting runoff and sediment, and the spatial redistribution of sediment was determined from sampling the soil surface. Average sediment yield was 1.0 Mg ha−1yr−1from the entire watershed, but varied between 0.1 Mg ha−1yr−1from the upper slope to 5.0 Mg ha−1yr−1from the lower channel. Little re‐deposition occurred in the channels indicating an effective transport system. The erosion pattern and rates were in agreement with the current morphology of the watershed, which has a well‐developed channel network.

Abstract: This paper reports on the results of investigations into the structure and the magnetic and magnetooptical properties of thin films Mn x Fe3 − x O4 prepared by solid-state reactions: isothermal annealing, self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, and a combination of these two regimes. The regimes favorable for the formation of films close in composition and structure to the stoichiometric compounds MnFe2O4 or Fe3O4 are established. The features observed in the spectral response of the magneto-optical Faraday effect and of the magnetic circular dichroism of the MnFe2O4 films are considered in terms of the electronic transitions in magnetic ions, primarily Fe3+, which occupy octahedral positions in the spinel structure.

Influenza A virus matrix M1 protein is membrane associated and plays a crucial role in virus assembly and budding. The N-terminal two thirds of M1 protein was resolved by X-ray crystallography. The overall 3D structure as well as arrangement of the molecule in relation to the viral membrane remains obscure. Now a proteolytic digestion of virions with bromelain was used as an instrument for the in situ assessment of the M1 protein structure. The lipid bilayer around the subviral particles lacking glycoprotein spikes was partially disrupted as was shown by transmission electron microscopy. A phenomenon of M1 protein fragmentation inside the subviral particles was revealed by SDS-PAGE analysis followed by in-gel trypsin hydrolysis and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis of the additional bands. Putative bromelain-digestion sites appeared to be located at the surface of the M1 protein globule and could be used as landmarks for 3D molecular modeling.

Abstract: A new statistical model is proposed for the molecular mass distributions (MMD) of polymerized anions in silicate melts. The model is based on the known distribution of Q n species in the MeO-Me2O-SiO2 system. In this model, chain and ring complexes are regarded as a random series of Q n structons with various concentrations of bridging bonds (1 ≤ n ≤ 4, Q 0 corresponds to SiO44−). This approach makes it possible to estimate the probability of formation of various ensembles of polymer species corresponding to the general formula (Si i O3i+1−j )2(i+1−j)−, where i is the size of the ion, and j is the cyclization number of intrachain bonds. The statistical model is utilized in the STRUCTON computer model, which makes use of the Monte Carlo method and is intended for the calculation of the composition and proportions of polyanions at a specified degree of polymerization of silicate melts (STRUCTON, version 1.2; 2007). Using this program, we simulated 1200 MMD for polyanions in the range of 0.52 ≤ p ≤98, where p is the fraction of nonbridging bonds in the silicon-oxygen matrix. The average number of types of anions in this range was determined to increase from three (SiO44−, Si2O76−, and Si3O108−) to 153, and their average size increases from 1 to 7.2. A special option of the STRUCTON program combines MMD reconstructions in silicate melts with the formalism of the Toop-Samis model, which enables the calculation of the mole fraction of the O2− ion relative to all anions in melts of specified composition. It is demonstrated that, with regard for the distribution and average size of anion complexes, the concentration of the O2− ion in the MeO-SiO2 system is characterized by two extrema: a minimum at 40–45 mol % SiO2, which corresponds to the initial stages of the gelenization of the polycondensated silicate matrix, and a maximum, which is predicted for the range of 60–80 mol % SiO2.

Abstract: We have found optimal conditions for obtaining an effective sorbent—catalyst based on natural clinoptololite with chemosorbed manganese dioxide for removing Mn2+ ions from water. Using a complex of sorption-analytical, structure-sorption, electron-microscopic methods we have studied the properties of the modifying δ-MnO2-film. The mechanism of its sorption-catalytic effect on Mn2+ has been discussed.

Abstract: Based on a strict solution of a complex mathematical model of clarifying a suspension by filtration through a multilayer medium we have developed a calculation method which makes it possible at high precision to determine in it concentrations, discharges, volumes, and pressure heads. Separately we have considered two main filtration modes—at a constant discharge of the filtrate and pressure differential on external boundaries a varied analysis of an effect of a three-layer media and also identical with it by their properties two-layer and single-layer media and an assessment has been made of all model parameters.

This paper summarizes the data on oriented intergrowths of minerals in pegmatites of the Il’meny Mountains. Two-feldspar, two-mica, biotite-amphibole, biotite-pyroxene, and pyroxene-amphibole intergrowths have been revealed in syenitic and miaskitic pegmatites. The orientation of exsolution products has been studied in sunstone (aventurine) and moonstone feldspars, nepheline, and cancrinite. Corundum-biotite-feldspar and two-mica intergrowths and exsolution lamellae occur in stellate corundum from corundum-feldspar veins. Syntactic intergrowths of various amphiboles and chlorites have been detected in pegmatoid ultramafic rocks. Regular quartz-feldspar (graphic) and two-feldspar intergrowths are typical of granitic pegmatites. Two-mica, columbite-samarskite, columbite-ilmenorutile, zircon-xenotime, cassiterite-ilmenorutile, cassiterite-ixiolite, cassiterite-tantalite, tantalite-stibiotantalite, fergusonite-columbite, pyrochlore-fergusonite, and beryl-cordierite intergrowths have been found in granitic pegmatites as well. New intergrowth laws have been established for many pairs of minerals.

Abstract: Ultraviolet photodetectors based on natural 2a diamond are fabricated and examined. From the capacitance-voltage characteristics and capacitance spectra, it is found that the ac conductivity of photodetectors is purely capacitive and that the capacitance of the samples is determined by their geometry. The dynamic range of the photodetectors is found to be no less than 104. The measured photosensitivity spectra and current-power characteristics bear evidence of the high sensitivity and selectivity of the photodetectors in the UV region, which favor their application for the detection of weak radiation signals, including detection during day-time.

Abstract??Spectral and current-voltage characteristics of photodetectors based on natural 2a-type diamond are studied. The long-wavelength sensitivity edge is discovered to shift with an increase in the nitrogen concentration. The conductivity of the detectors is estimated. It is shown that, for diamond photodetectors, both the photoresistive and photodiode operation principles can be implemented. A model of a diamond ultraviolet photoelectric converter with separation of nonequilibrium carriers in the space-charge region is proposed.

Introduction. Nowadays the problem of population health in the northern areas is of great importance. While evaluating human adaptation to the extreme geoecological northern conditions the state of the cardiovascular system can be used as an index of effective compensatory adaptation. Study design. The data on 24-hour BP monitoring, data of echocardiography and heliogeophysical factors in different periods of ontogenesis in 317 patients, living in the north of the Tyumen region, were analysed to estimate the morphofunctional and chronobiological peculiarities of arterial hypertension. Results. Considerable disorders of haemodynamic circadian rhythms, manifesting either insufficient decrease of BP at night are revealed in the examined subjects. Above 42.2% of such patients have myocardial hypertrophy. Insufficient night decrease of BP is typical for the examined patients, with coupling of the indices of haemodynamic and current geomagnetic activity. The peculiarities of heliogeophysical factors at early ontogenesis of the examined subjects with an increased variability and decreased circadian index of BP are defined using multivariate analysis. Conclusion. Thus, a combination of disorders of temporary haemodynamic organisation with the morphological changes of myocardium and peculiarities of biogeophysical coupling of the examined is shown. This anthropoecological approach can be used for the diagnostics and treatment of arterial hypertension under conditions of the northern ecosystem.

Soil erosion affects soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics by redistributing SOC within the watershed or ecosystem and by altering the C release rate into the atmosphere. Although the mechanism of this process is poorly understood it has the potential to influence global climate.

The state of the digestive organs was comprehensively studied in 12 cosmonauts before, during, and after Mirmissions 132-438 days long. The study consisted of glucose–milk loading during which the glycemic profile, the biochemical composition of capillary blood, and the ultrasonic pattern of the internal organs and the blood vessels of the abdominal cavity were recorded. As compared to the preflight data, an increase in the size of the parenchymatous organs, a decrease in their echogenicity, and the thickening of the walls of the hollow organs were observed during spaceflight, which was indicative of their being excessively plethoric. Therewith, an increase in the stomach fluid, intestinal dilatation, and an increased gallbladder tone were determined in most cases on an empty stomach, which suggested increased secretory activity. Flattened glycemic curves and decreased pancreas and gallbladder reactivities, as well as delayed gastric evacuation, were revealed after a glucose-mil load. It should be pointed out that the severity of the changes described was not directly related to the duration of exposure to weightlessness within the limit of six months. The changes revealed were reversible and, in most cases, completely disappeared two weeks after completion of the missions.

Spatially averaged soil erosion data provide little information on soil erosion dynamics. Dynamically varied, spatially distributed erosion data are needed to better understand erosion processes and thoroughly evaluate process‐based erosion prediction models. The objectives of this study are to examine the feasibility of direct mixing rare‐earth element (REE) oxides with soil materials to trace soil erosion at a plot scale and to explore further the potential of using this technique to study soil erosion dynamics. Five REE oxide powders were mixed with a Camden silt soil (fine, silty, mixed, mesic Typic Hapludalt) at five slope positions. Six rainstorms were applied to a 4 by 4 m soil bed at a 10% slope. Runoff was collected during the rains and surface soil was sampled after each rain. All samples were extracted for REE with a quick acid‐leaching method and extracts were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS). Mean error of REE‐derived sediment discharge relative to measured total across six rainstorms was 14.5%. Our results demonstrate that the REE‐tracing technique is feasible and sound, being capable of producing both spatially and temporally distributed erosion data. Results indicate that the most severe erosion occurred in the upper middle section of a uniform slope, and total sediment delivery from each segment was positively related to amounts of sediment deposition on the entire slope from that segment. This technique has the potential to bring new perspectives to soil erosion research.

The ion-exchange equilibria involving K+and Ca2+cations were studied using the Na-forms of nine different clinoptilolite samples. The high-silica (in the native state, sodium–potassium form) clinoptilolites were shown to have the increased selectivity with respect to K+ions, whereas the low-silica (in the native state, calcium form) clinoptilolites to Ca2+ions. The phenomenon found is interpreted as a structural memory of clinoptilolites with respect to alkali and alkaline-earth metal ions which had been present during zeolite crystallization under natural conditions.

The wave process arising in a sandwich panel with a free back surface under the action of a short-term dynamic load on the front surface of the upper layer (plane deformation) is investigated. The calculation procedure for displacements, rates, and stresses under a rectangular short-time pulse, whose duration does not exceed the double time of wave travel within a layer, is based on the representation of the solution to the one-dimensional wave equation in terms of characteristics. The transmission and reflection coefficients of the pressure pulses on the contact surfaces of layers with different physical properties are determined. The expressions for tensile stresses in the panel face layers and filler, which are responsible for the material failure by spalling, are presented. The stresses in relation to the geometry and dynamic parameters of the sandwich structure are analyzed. In the case of a symmetric panel structure, the stress pattern in the midlayer and on its contact boundaries is given, which takes into account the branching and superposition of pulses.

Cycloplatination of the prochiral sp³ C−H bond of 1-(2-pyridinylthio)propanone (py{SCH2C(O)Me}-2, 1a) by cis-[PtCl2(SOMe2)] in dry ethanol affords [Pt{py{SCHC(O)Me}-2}Cl(SOMe2)] (3a) in 77% isolated yield without any side product. The same reaction using the chiral complex cis-[PtCl2(S-SOMe(p-tolyl))] (the absolute configuration of sulfur is indicated for the coordinated ligand) leads to two cycloplatinated diastereoisomers, 4a (SsRc) and 4b (SsSc), in 12.9 and 33.7% yield, respectively (de 44.6%). Their absolute configuration was deduced from the analysis of the ¹H NMR spectra and confirmed by an X-ray structural investigation of 4b. Diastereomer 4b was shown to react with PPh3 to give the enantiomer [Pt{py{SCHC(O)Me}-2}Cl(PPh3)] with the central carbon chirality only. Rather surprisingly, attempted cycloplatination of py{SCH2C(O)Ph}-2 (1b) by cis-[PtCl2(SOMe2)] affords the cycloplatinated complex [Pt{py{SCHC(O)Ph}-2}Cl(SOMe2)] (3b) in a miserable yield.
