Background: Although iron supplementation may prevent iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) during pregnancy, a nutrition education tool highlighting the importance of iron supplementation during pregnancy is also important. Objectives: The aim was to develop and test a nutrition education tool on iron supplementation for pregnant women. Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted. Setting: Mutare City Clinic, Manicaland province, Zimbabwe. Subjects: Sixty-seven pregnant women in their second or third trimesters of pregnancy and attending Mutare City Clinic for antenatal care (ANC) participated in the study. Outcome measures: The preferences of pregnant women regarding form, structure and content of the nutrition education tool were established using eight focus-group discussions (FGDs) in which 67 pregnant women participated. Three additional FGDs were conducted with another 28 pregnant women to assess the user-friendliness and acceptability of the developed tool. Results: A pamphlet was the most preferred tool, with English being the most preferred language, along with some Shona phrases. Women wanted information on IDA, dosage, duration and side-effects of iron supplementation and iron food sources to be included in the pamphlet. The participants identified clinics, pharmacies and churches as ideal sites for dissemination of the tool. Conclusions: A pamphlet on iron supplementation in simple English with some Shona phrases was the nutrition education tool most preferred by the pregnant women. Offering the pamphlet together with iron supplements to pregnant women could improve compliance with iron supplements. Purpose A breastfeeding program was developed by the author with the aim of supporting mothers returning to work after childbirth in continuing breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to describe the development and evaluation of the pamphlets used in the breastfeeding program. Methods The primary objective of the pamphlet was to provide knowledge and information to help mothers who return to work within 1 year after giving birth continue breastfeeding. The secondary objective was to promote breastfeeding after returning to work. The main contents of the pamphlet included the effects of breastfeeding, the practice of balancing breastfeeding and work, how to express breastmilk, how to take medications while breastfeeding, weaning, and other information related to the continuation of breastfeeding. The main features of the pamphlet include its incorporation of the experiences and ingenuity of women who had continued breastfeeding after returning to work, and the depiction of their daily cycle after returning to work and how to continue breastfeeding. Participants were women in a program group (n=48) and a pamphlet group (n=46) among three groups of women included in a previous study who planned to return to work within 4-12 months after giving birth. In the pamphlet group, only the pamphlet was provided by mail. In the program group, the same text as in the pamphlet was used in the breastfeeding class. Comprehension, expectation agreement, utilization, and satisfaction were evaluated on a five-point scale. The two highest scores on the five-point scale were considered to indicate a "high" score, while the three lowest scores were considered to indicate a "low" score, and a chi-square analysis was performed to compare the rates of high and low scores between both groups. In the pamphlet group, the rates of high and low scores and the breastfeeding continuation rate at 3 months after returning to work were compared using the x test. The study took place from February 2017 to August 2018 and was conducted with the approval of the research ethics committee of the university to which the author belongs. Results The degree of comprehension of the pamphlets exceeded 90% in both groups. The degree of expectation agreement, utilization, and satisfaction were significantly lower in the pamphlet group than in the program group. Those who had high expectation agreement, utilization, and satisfaction in the pamphlet group had a high breastfeeding continuation rate at 3 months after returning to work. Conclusion The degree of comprehension of the pamphlet was high, demonstrating that it is a tool that can be used to provide knowledge and information. These results suggest that improving the pamphlet for mothers returning to work could contribute to the continuation of breastfeeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective The current study investigates the effects of an 8-week yoga program with educational intervention compared with an informational pamphlet on disability, anxiety, depression, and pain, in people affected by chronic low back pain (CLBP). Methods Thirty individuals (age 34.2 ± 4.52 yrs) with CLBP were randomly assigned into a Yoga Group (YG, n = 15) and a Pamphlet Group (PG, n = 15). The YG participated in an 8-week (2 days per week) yoga program which included education on spine anatomy/biomechanics and the management of CLBP. Main outcome measures Monitoring response to intervention, the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire (ODI-I), Zung self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Numeric Rating Scale for Pain (NRS 0–10) were used to collect data. Results After intervention, the YG showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in the mean score in all assessed variables when compared with baseline data. In addition, statistically significant (p < 0.05) differences were observed among groups at the end of intervention in depression, anxiety, and pain, but not in disability. Conclusions The yoga program and education together appear to be effective in reducing depression and anxiety, which can affect perception of pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study is to show the differences in impression evaluation among different media stimuli for housing space. We conducted an impression evaluation experiment for a pamphlet, material samples, and real rooms for media stimulation using an SD method with 85 participants to extract similar and the dissimilar impression evaluations among the media stimuli. The results indicated that the evaluations for real rooms were more positive than those for a pamphlet or material samples as a whole; especially, for brightness and youthfulness among different forms of stimulation. The evaluation structure by factor analysis of a pamphlet and real rooms were almost same; however, those by material samples were different, suggesting that a pamphlet is useful to express a real room, but material samples assist in stimulation of the residential space. The anonymous pamphlet Conseil privé de Louis le Grand (1696) subjects French monarch Louis XIV to scathing ridicule and denunciation. Interestingly, however, the pamphleteer frames his critique of absolutist politics within an entertaining narrative that deploys tropes from contemporary literary genres such as the historical novella and the historico-satirical novel. A poetics of diversion subtends the work, readable at the level of the plot as well as in the satirical mechanism employed in the text: not only does the Conseil privé de Louis le Grand incorporate scenes focusing on courtly diversions, but it also diverts readers in a more literal way by transforming the monarch into a source of amusement. Absolutism becomes grist to the mill of pamphleteering, and the king a product of authorial fantasy. The pamphleteer figures Louis the Great’s privy council as a harem — a world of corruption, weakness, and ineptitude where the monarchy is painted in its imagined and unimaginable excesses. Studying this text through the lens of diversion offers a case study affirming the power of fiction as a weapon in the pamphleteer’s arsenal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article reports on research which was conducted to investigate the role that directed patient interventions in the form of pamphlets played in the management of patients who had experienced ankle fractures. Researchers evaluated 40 patients who were placed in a standard treatment group or a group which received an information packet from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. They found that pamphlets can be helpful in providing information to patients in the postoperative period.

The article discusses the history of Psalmody in 17th-century France, under the reign of Louis XIII, with particular focus given to the numerous religious pamphlets that were distributed at the time, with the author arguing they could serve as an analytical tool allowing a greater insight into religious life in post-Renaissance France. In particular, it discusses the style and content of "Le Psaultier des Rebelles de ce temps," and "La Fievre des Huguenots de France." Topics include church history in 17th-century France, as well as the history of the country's Huguenot population.

Tudor Arghezi was not not only a great Romanian poet but also a very prodigious pamphleteer. He had a vocation for polemic and wrote on the most controversial issues of his time, entering into polemic with many writers. Among them were the historian Nicolae Iorga and the poet Ion Barbu. He was even imprisoned two times: in 1919 and 1943 because of his critical articles and his disobedient attitude towards the political parties and Romania's position in the 1st World War and the 2nd World War. In October 1943 he published the nationalistic pamphlet ‟Baroane„, in which the German ambassador in Romania, Manfred von Killinger was accused for his taking part in the loot of our country. Mircea Dinescu is, undoubtedly, a master of pamphlet in Romanian literature. From stylistic point of view, his pamphlets imply an ingenious combination of several levels, especially of the vocabulary. For example, in his work, neologisms are wonderful combined with common vocabulary. They seem made to maintain a continuous laughter, but also to cruelly hit the neighbor unworthiness. Mircea Dinescu's pamphlets contain sense sequences, having a poetics sometimes serious in its simplicity, and other times excessively ornamented. Summary: Background: Successful conduct of research studies in the critically ill requires communication with families, substitute decision-makers and clinicians. Objective: To assess the effect of a communication package on attitude, knowledge and research awareness among family members and clinicians. Methods: We conducted a prospective, single centre, before and after study. We distributed a validated questionnaire to family members and clinicians assessing the three domains of research attitude, knowledge and awareness before and after implementation of a research communication package consisting of an informational pamphlet and display poster. Results: Response rates for the family member survey were 22% (baseline) and 15% (post-intervention). No differences were found in the attitude, knowledge and awareness of family members following implementation of the research communication package. The global awareness score (calculated by summing the domain responses) rose 4.0 points (P =0.056). Response rates for clinicians were 36% (baseline) and 33% (post-intervention). No differences were found in attitude, knowledge and awareness and global awareness score. Conclusion: Passive dissemination of research materials was not sufficient to generate an increased awareness, knowledge, or perceived utility of research. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs in about 70% of stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients and is associated with poor function and recurrent vascular events. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) has been shown to improve poststroke/TIA outcomes but adherence is generally poor. This study aimed to develop and conduct a preliminary assessment of educational materials for poststroke/TIA OSA.Methods: This blinded pilot study involved the randomization of stroke/TIA patients to either an intervention group (who viewed an educational pamphlet and slideshow) or a control group (standard of care). Patient ratings were used to evaluate the educational materials. Changes in knowledge, daytime sleepiness, functional outcomes of sleep, and CPAP use were assessed at baseline and 6 months.Results: Total 93% of eligible patients consented to participate. Forty-eight participants were randomized to the control group (n = 23) or intervention group (n = 25). In the intervention group, all patients agreed or strongly agreed that the information in the educational materials was useful and that the wording was easy to understand. There were no significant changes in knowledge, daytime sleepiness, and functional outcomes of sleep between both groups at 6 months. In those who used CPAP, there was no significant difference in mean hours of CPAP use at the 6-month follow-up.Conclusions: The educational program was feasible and easy to understand amongst stroke/TIA patients but did not lead to a significant change in outcomes or CPAP use.
