Aphasia impacts significantly on a person's communicative confidence, mood, and well-being. Speech-language pathology clinical practice literature has previously reported positive outcomes for people with aphasia who have received peer support, and positive outcomes have also been reported by caregivers and supporters. An aphasia peer support volunteer program was collaboratively developed and implemented by Speech Pathology and Volunteer Services at Gold Coast Health. The program offers support to people with aphasia by facilitating visits with volunteers who provide an example of living a quality life with aphasia; assist with emotional, social, and practical support regarding living with aphasia; and provide strategies for maximising communicative independence. Evaluation of this program was undertaken using quality improvement processes specific to Gold Coast Health. Qualitative findings were overwhelmingly positive, with 12 patients (from a total of thirteen) reporting that they found the experience motivating and enjoyable. African Americans experience higher incidence and prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Yet, they continue to be underrepresented in AD research, limiting the ability to generalize findings to the increasingly diverse US population. To reduce AD disparities, targeted efforts are needed to increase the representation of African Americans in AD research. This mini review identified evidence-based strategies that increased research participation among older African Americans. Four recruitment strategies emerged from eight published peer-reviewed studies that directly evaluated the effectiveness of strategies aimed at increasing the number of African American participants in Alzheimer's research. The strategies include community outreach and education, face-to-face discussions, remote access, and referral and partnership with local organizations. Across different locations, these strategies increased the number of African Americans enrolled into AD research, the number of people that signed up to donate their brains for AD research upon death, and the knowledge and perception of AD in the communities. Targeted efforts are effective in increasing AD research participation among older African Americans, especially when combined with approaches that emphasize transparency and mutual trust and involve the community as stakeholders in the research process. Importance: There is a need for tools to measure adults' playfulness in reference to parent–child joint play. Objective: To (1) develop items for the Scale of Parental Playful Attitude (PaPA), (2) evaluate evidence for validity based on content, and (3) evaluate evidence for validity based on the response process. Design: A mixed-methods design with three phases: (1) development of the first draft of the PaPA (based on the literature, focus groups, and semistructured interviews), (2) review by experts and revision of the first draft, and (3) cognitive interviews with parents. Setting: Various (e.g., schools, a university). Participants: Phase 1 had 32 participants: 13 parents of children ages 2.5–6 yr without major diagnosed conditions; 8 parents of autistic children age 4–7 yr; and 11 preschoolers age 3–5 yr. Phase 2 involved 10 experts. Phase 3 had 5 participants: 3 mothers and 2 fathers of children ages 2.5–6 yr; 1 child was autistic. Outcomes and Measures: Interview protocols and experts' review form. Results: Phase 1 involved the initial item development. Extrinsic motivation and barriers to play emerged as important areas to include. Experts' review enhanced representation of the construct of playfulness. Content validity index values ranged from.78 to 1.00. Cognitive interviews provided insights into parents' comprehension of PaPA items. Conclusions and Relevance: Validity related to test content and the response process was supported. Additional sources of validity testing are necessary. Plain-Language Summary: Adult playfulness is critical for both the child and the parent, especially for developing a deeper connection. In early 2022, Spotify and podcaster Joe Rogan faced backlash and threats stemming from some of Rogan's COVID-related podcast content. Via a qualitative case study, we analyze the situation, Spotify and Rogan's employment of corporate apologia strategies, the short-term financial/share-of-voice results stemming from their use, and consider theoretical and practical implications for the utilization of corporate apologia, avoiding cancellation and misinformation management. The Try Guys are social media influencers who were in crisis when member Ned Fulmer cheated on his wife and affected their brand. The Try Guys' followers took to social media to express their thoughts and give advice about the Try Guys brand. This study explored the relationship between social media influencers and their followers, how those influencers talk about their personal brand during a crisis, and how followers aid in reputational repair. The theories were Parasocial Interaction and Situational Crisis Communication Theory. A content analysis of posts and comments on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube was conducted. The findings showed crisis frames in the Try Guys' posts were different from their followers' comments. The Try Guys focused on justification, ingratiation and victimage, whereas the followers scapegoated the woman involved in the affair instead of her married boss. The National Football League (NFL) has faced crisis situations with mixed results over the last ten years. This paper examines some of the recent crisis responses undertaken by the league suggesting areas of improvement. Through a brief examination of the literature the authors provide both an overview of crisis management communication and NFL crisis cases studies to develop a means for practitioners to better understand crisis responses that both protect an organization's reputation and the health and safety of all stakeholders. Review of the aforementioned materials suggest the NFL and other sports organizations would benefit from crises responses that steamed from a proactive communication posture that prioritized transparency, authenticity, and focused on inclusive decision-making. Communication is a critical component in the process of providing quality healthcare services and products. The role of public relations (PR), as a strategic, proactive, and responsible type of communication, is to establish and maintain a positive reputation and relationships with the public, based on trust and mutual understanding. Given the complex approach and process of this activity, when properly applied, PR can bring benefits to all stakeholders in the healthcare sector, contributing positively to its overall realities and outcomes. This paper presents the results of an exploratory pilot study aimed at identifying the coordinates of PR in the Romanian health sector by investigating perceptions on health public relations (HPR), its potential, challenges and opportunities, and stakeholders in healthcare. It is based on qualitative research, using interviews with a mixed group of professionals from the public and private sectors (doctors, medical service coordinators, medical professors, managers, and owners of entities that provide health services and products, and strategic communication professionals working for companies in healthcare). The results are discussed alongside relevant findings provided by previously published studies. In the final part of the article, the author proposes a PR model for entities in the medical area. It emphasizes that HPR should not only be used as a tactical tool or alternative to marketing efforts, nor only intended to manage an undesirable image or deliver damage control after an inconvenient situation or crisis. Instead, HPR services are at their true potential when a strategic approach is applied proactively, based on complex research and planning, designed to engage stakeholders and motivate them towards collaborative communication and sustained effort, based on partnership, for efficient and effective results in the health sector. Within developing countries, awareness efforts that promote wildlife conservation are not only important to engage communities neighboring wildlife habitats, but they are also critical nationally because urban dwellers are not usually exposed to wildlife. Here, we suggest that media and public relations professionals can promote domestic tourism activities, and engage communities in ways that will encourage the public to protect wildlife. We outline examples of successful ongoing initiatives we have used that stem from the principles of strategic communication to promote wildlife conservation in Uganda. First, tours with journalists, celebrities, and politicians have been launched to support awareness of wildlife and their economic value to the country. These initiatives highlight protected areas to the mainstream media and encourage domestic tourism. Second, parades around the country, intramural sports teams, as well as public lectures, community and school events are held to mobilize additional conservation awareness. Lastly, we discuss the role of strategic communication through media frames by the national newspapers in promoting the importance of wildlife conservation. These initiatives have likely led to the demonstrated increase in domestic tourism to national parks over the past decade and increase in support for wildlife by the Ugandan public. Making decisions to withhold or withdraw treatment in the paediatric intensive care setting can be complex, emotive and morally challenging. The process draws on the expertise and experience of both the families and the medical teams, their understanding of the needs and (where possible) choices of the child, and a balance of trust between all parties to want to achieve the right outcome. It is important that all healthcare professionals caring for children, particularly those living with potentially life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, are aware of the processes involved so they can support patients and families with confidence and sensitivity. This paper explores the basic aspects of withholding and withdrawing interventions in the PICU with the aim of demonstrating the situations in which these decisions might be necessary. It explains the frameworks and considerations guiding the decision-making process and describes the practicalities of providing ongoing care through collaboration with hospital and community services. Despite research findings that rural Appalachians prefer to die at home, few people access palliative and hospice care services, and many report limited knowledge about palliative/end-of-life care resources. A community-academic partnership was formed to address this need. Train-the-trainer workshop and materials were co-developed. This study tested the feasibility and cultural acceptability of the training intervention to increase community members' knowledge about palliative/end-oflife care resources for East Tennessee Appalachian people. Community-based participatory research design and culture care theory guided the project, intervention, and research. After engaging in end-of-life training, participants completed a retrospective pretest-posttest survey. Paired samples t tests were used to compare knowledge before and after training. Means and standard deviations were used to report training material usefulness and cultural acceptability. Short-answer qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Sixty-six adults completed the survey. Ratings for training materials and cultural/theological acceptability were high. Participant knowledge rankings showed significant improvement after training at the P <.001 level. Qualitative feedback was positive. The training intervention was feasible, culturally acceptable, and effective for increasing East Tennessee Appalachian persons' palliative/end-of-life care knowledge. Robots are machines that people use in many different ways. They are becoming more popular in fields such as the military and hospitals. However, as robots over time become more intelligent, some people are increasingly concerned about the risks and crimes they could indefinitely be involved in. There are rules and laws that are certainly put in place to exactly determine who is responsible if a robot makes something wrong, such as the people who make, program, own, or use the robot. We undoubtedly need to think about situations where robots might do bad things on their own or if someone uses them in a bad way. This study highly examines the risks behind employing robots in medicine and the military and questions whether robots should have legal rights like humans. The goal is fairly to set clear rules about who takes responsibility if a robot does something erratic. The research definitly suggests that we need rigid laws to protect against the use of robots in criminal activities. For example, the use of military robots in conflict violates Article 6(1) of the European Code of Conduct for Military Machines. In addition, there is a significant increase in the use of medical robots to collect patient data without their consent for illicit financial gain. It is especially important to emphasize that robots do not follow ethical standards and do not have the medical expertise that human medical workers have. In addition, they are vulnerable to malfunctions and loss of control, which can greatly put people's lives at risk. Therefore, we strongly recommend developing an effective legal framework to address any legal risks arising from bot activities. The purpose of this paper is to investigate stress-related experiences and coping solutions for public relations (PR) professionals, as relevant dimensions related to their well-being, creativity, and outcomes. The framework of the study is linked to the state of the PR profession, its role, and potential developments. It is based on qualitative research, using in-depth semi-structured interviews with seventeen senior professionals in PR from companies in Romania. The thematic analysis revealed, from a top-level professionals' perspective, that Romanian PR activity is still a very fluid one and its role and value are not yet clearly integrated. This generates important levels of negative stress for PR professionals. Besides that, positive stress is associated to PR activity for enthusiastic PR professionals. The findings underline a series of seven stress factors and three categories of solutions for coping, involving the professionals but also academia, professional bodies, and, eventually, organizations. The authors of this study emphasize the importance of supporting the development of the profession as a premise for more positive working experiences of PR professionals. This can be achieved by precisely using PR tools, to establish a set of clear standards and increase PR literacy for non-PR people, both for the benefit of PR professionals and those who pay for their services. The lack of a coherent framework on the role of PR brings many challenges to the activity of PR professionals. The negative stress they perceive in daily activity is partially an extension of the fragmented and incomplete development of the PR profession, and the multivariate and disconnected pace regarding advances in theory and practice in the field. The COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on parliamentary activities have recently become a trending topic. The pandemic presented both challenges and opportunities for governments and parliaments. During times of crisis, government-parliament and government-opposition relations can result in contrasting expectations and outcomes with regard to democratic norms. While consensus on crisis measures between governments and opposition parties can increase public trust and legitimacy, criticism by the opposition is essential as a catalyst for fuelling public discourse. During a crisis, government-opposition relations can range from consensus-seeking to strictly adversarial. The paper1 aims to empirically analyse the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on relations between the government coalition of the Czech Republic and its polarised parliamentary opposition. Parliamentary elections coincided with the pandemic, and the minority government was replaced by a surplus majority coalition formed by the opposition parties from the previous legislature. The paper will examine whether the opposition adopted a differentiated strategy in its discussions regarding pandemic-related legislative proposals and to what extent it was able to act unanimously despite its polarization. The article analyses the political reputations of the two coalitions that ruled Poland from 2007 to 2023. Political communication is most often explored from the perspective of political marketing, less so from the point of view of political public relations, especially in its long-term-goal-oriented strategic dimension. This partially explains why analyses of political reputation are rare; yet reputation is worth considering in the study of political communication, not only that of individual political actors but also of institutions - political parties and governments. The analyses presented in this article examine communication skills. They aim to determine the political reputations of the two coalitions and identify the factors that could have influenced them. Particular emphasis is placed on communication issues, especially the potential maintenance of political reputation. The analyses were carried out on data publicly available as part of CBOS reports and existing research on party political communication, the aim being to determine and compare the political reputations of the Civic Platform-Polish People's Party, CP-PPP (Polish: Platforma Obywatelska - Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe) and United Right (UR) (Polish: Zjednoczona Prawica) governments. The results reveal that the populist government of the United Right maintained a positive reputation for much longer than CP-PPP, despite facing many image-related threats during its tenure. In the age of digital disruption, universities and educational institutions all over the world provide many bachelor’s, postgraduate, and non-degree curricula. Information is mostly presented in different forms, i.e., public relations (PR) on websites, mobile applications, or social media; including field PR at different sites, e.g., department stores and schools. However, the limitations and the problems are that the presented information fails to attract or motivate the perception, interest, and participation of the target groups. Also, traditional PR requires resources in terms of persons, time, and many expenditures. Thus, this research aimed to present the development of a game to present information for PR of bachelor’s curriculums using Unity3D, which could reduce the limitation of presentation or PR in traditional forms. This article traces the history of Straight Talk, a sex education curriculum introduced into US. high schools in the mid-1980s. Straight Talk was sponsored by Ortho Pharmaceutical, who offered the program as a "public service" to combat the socalled epidemic of teenage pregnancy that had inspired panic on both sides of the political spectrum. In fact, Straight Talk was part of a campaign to promote Ortho's newest product: the low-dose, multiphasic pill Ortho - Novum 7 /7 /7. Drawing on media reports, curricular materials and public relations (PR) documents, I argue that Straight Talk is a prime example of shadow marketing" in the pharmaceutical industry, in which companies use PR strategies to skirt regulations on direct-to-consumer advertising. While on the surface Straight Talk looked like a typical comprehensive sex education curriculum, its bias toward the Pill-in particular, the low-dose multiphasic pill-belied Ortho's claims of neutrality. The curriculum's promotion of the Pill also came at the expense of other contraceptive methods, such as the condom, a troubling omission in the age of HIV/AIDS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Residents' major sport event (MSE) social value is a central topic for event scholars and managers. Despite its popularity, reviews have focused on empirical findings of impact-based studies; not considering resident investments of these studies nor the theoretical underpinnings of this social phenomenon. Therefore, the present systematic review of theory considers investment and impact-based studies to addresses this gap. We screened 934 records, of which only three met all our inclusion criteria. Findings revealed four theoretical concepts to understand residents' MSE social value: affinity with sport, income, event expectation, and transparency. The combination of these concepts offers a conceptual framework that guides scholars and practitioners to create social value more strategically for residents. Findings revealed the paucity of studies that examine residents' MSE social impact in relation to their MSE investment and calls for future investigations on residents' investments and impacts in relation to each other. OBJECTIVE: The Stanford Pediatrics Advancing Anti-Racism Coalition (SPAARC) was created to promote a culture of anti-racism through immediate action, development of nimble systems, and longitudinal commitment toward equity. Evaluate gaps in the Stanford Department of Pediatrics (DoP) efforts to advance anti-racism and form a coalition of faculty, staff, and trainees to prioritize, design, and implement targeted activities with immediate and long-term measurable outcomes. METHODS: A needs assessment was conducted across all DoP members in July to August 2020 to identify gaps in anti-racism efforts. Listening sessions were recorded and transcribed to extrapolate key themes and 2 rounds of consensus surveys were done to identify and prioritize actions. Actions teams were created and co-led by faculty-staff dyads with trainee representation. A final activity survey was conducted in January 2021 to determine the specific activities (ie, interventions) each team would design and implement. RESULTS: Ten small group listening sessions (70 participants) and 3 surveys (1005 responses) led to the creation of 7 action teams with associated activities 1) training, 2) community engagement and research, 3) communication, 4) faculty and staff recruitment and advancement, 5) leadership representation, 6) human resources, and 7) staff engagement. Four hundred forty-three (41%) DoP members were directly involved in SPAARC through participation in the needs assessment, action teams, and/or implementation of activities. CONCLUSION: SPAARC can serve as an adaptable framework for how a DoP can create a coalition to identify gaps in anti-racism efforts and create and implement targeted activities with associated outcomes. The article offers a perspective on the role of social media influencers as trusted messengers in tobacco control mass media campaigns. It describes campaigns by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to illustrate how mass media campaigns can leverage influencers to build and optimize campaign, including the Fresh Empire public education campaign, The Real Cost Smokeless Tobacco campaign and This Free Life tobacco prevention campaign.

This article considers the link between tourism and classic diplomacy as a field of study and policy. The article focuses on the contribution of tourism to the strengthening of bilateral relations between governments, through analysis of Israeli–Tanzanian relations as a crucial case study. Thus, in addition to the literature that focuses on people-to-people diplomacy and tourism, this article highlights the role that tourism plays in strengthening diplomatic relations between states. Tourism is positioned within the broader context of economic diplomacy, and the interrelationships between tourism and diplomacy—theoretically and practically—are examined. Creating Responsive Educational Avenues for Training Environments in Early Childhood (CREATE EC) is a new, interdisciplinary initiative aimed at transforming academic programs and professional development at the University of New Mexico's College of Education and Human Sciences. As a learning process wherein we ask questions to enhance knowledge, media literacy offers a powerful lens for examining how people practice communication across diverse applied contexts such as professional communicators shaping messages about COVID-19. Borrowing a page from Renee Hobbs' (1998, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2021) media literacy education research, we sought to compare/contrast media content creators' (journalism, advertising, public relations, marketing communication) information-seeking behaviors during the 2020-2022 COVID-19 pandemic for both their paid work and unpaid volunteer work, as well as for their own and family edification. Blending the media literacy lens with social construction theory (Berger & Luckmann, 1967), our survey findings collected at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 suggest that professional communicators (N=174) relied more frequently on media sources (64.9%) for COVID-19 information for work (paid and unpaid) and on people such as medical professionals (51.5%) as sources for COVID-19 information for their own personal and family use. This study offers an initial and exploratory examination of the role that the variable of predictability plays in crisis management. Leveraging the situational crisis communication theory, it employed two separate but inter-related experiments. They examined how manipulations of the level of crisis predictability impacted a number of crucial variables important for crisis response. The findings strongly indicate that when a crisis is framed as having been predictable, it results in a host of negative consequences for the involved organizations and complicates the recovery process. When a crisis is framed as having been unpredictable, it results in positive benefits for the organizations involved. This study aims to investigate the opinions and perceptions of senior Turkish public relations practitioners on the knowledge, skills, competencies, and personal attributes of public relations academics and public relations curriculums. A total of 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with public relations practitioners working in corporations or consultancies. Results show that the top knowledge areas for public relations practitioners include sociology, psychology, and communication, the most prominent skills include communication skills, IT skills, and visioning, the most important personal attributes include good image, sensitivity/humanity, and life-long learner, and the top competencies are performing and creating. Practical knowledge is as important as theoretical knowledge. Public relations professionals have respect for public relations academics, appreciate their input, but they suggest that the public relations curriculum should be improved and that the graduates should be better informed. This paper also reveals how a dialogue can be established between Turkish public relations academics and professionals. The collected data were analyzed under the guidance of Wengers' communities of practice framework, and suggestions for forming communities of practice were proposed by taking the dimensions of events, leadership, connectivity, membership, learning projects, and artifacts into account. By providing data from Turkey, the findings of this work can help us improve industry--academia ties and subsequently contribute to the professionalization of public relations. Amid calls for more impactful corporate social responsibility and the growing significance of corporations and brands as sites to contest societal values, this article asks how a changed communication environment affects the practices of organisational communication, and with what effects? Through a thematic analysis of interviews, observation at industry events, and collected documents, it examines the motivations for corporate social advocacy, their mediation, and how the risks and rewards of participating in these kinds of communication are understood within the contemporary promotional industries. Using frameworks of contestation and justification, it identifies how constant media scrutiny, a lowtrust environment, and investments in stakeholder relationships exacerbated the risks and rewards of social advocacy, pushing corporate advocacy towards tangible actions with governance implications. Human resource management involves a dual approach, functioning as a tool and at the same time as an end in itself. The current global financial and economic crisis has required a continuous review and adaptation of the way human resource management is perceived and implemented, in light of the changes and challenges of today's reality. In the Romanian public sector, greater attention is paid to the strategic management of human resources, which contributes to achieving synergies. No mission, purpose or task of a public institution can be achieved alone; these are achieved through the contribution of the employed staff. In every public institution, the human factor is decisive for the effectiveness and efficiency of the activities carried out and, at the same time, influences the perceived reputation of the institution in the community. Private sector actors have long been involved in surveillance. This extends to surveillance undertaken in crisis contexts and conflict situations, where humanitarian needs commonly arise. Prior research has problematized the surveillance-industrial complex's involvement in aid initiatives and humanitarian interventions, but new dynamics are creating novel dilemmas. This contribution to a dialogue on surveillance in contemporary conflict discusses how surveillance firms are exploiting humanitarian crises as a means to aidwash their technologies and services. In this context, aidwashing practices involve the use of corporate social responsibility initiatives and forms of public-private partnership with aid actors to burnish surveillance firms' reputations and distract the public from corporate misbehavior, ethical misdeeds, and dubious data practices. In this piece, I draw on two recent cases--a partnership to develop advanced data analytics for the optimization of humanitarian food assistance and the donation of facial recognition services in an ongoing armed conflict--to interrogate the surveillance industry's public relations activities in humanitarian emergencies and conflict situations and reflect on the inner workings of--and resistance to--aidwashing. This research aims to evaluate how organizations manage their reputations with publics through compounding crises. The research applies concepts of public relations and crisis management, including situational crisis communication theory and organization-public relationship management. The research investigates a case of compounding health crises at a prominent American University, and assesses how communication managers prioritized publics and issue response, coordinated their communication strategies, and revised their communication practices in the wake of the compounding crises. Interviews were conducted with the three public relations managers who managed the events, and analysis was conducted on the University's published social media content and artifacts that were obtained from the interview participants. The research reveals that relationship-management theories were only adopted by one of the communication managers, and that the communicators had divergent ideas about which publics should be prioritized.
