A Short-finned Pilot Whale, Globicephala macrorhynchus, was found dead and with shark bites along its body on a beach in northeast Brazil. The present study aimed to identify the shark species responsible for the bites as well as to estimate its/their total length. Species identification was performed using the bite marks, which were of the same diameter, suggesting they were inflected by one or more Tiger sharks of similar size. The characteristics of the bites and the shape and distribution of the marks left by the teeth pointed to the Tiger Shark, Galeocerdo cuvier. The total length of the Tiger Shark or sharks was estimated at between 257 and 288 cm, based on the perimeter contour of each bite and the interdental distance inferred from the marks on the whale. This suggests that the bites were inflicted by one or more sub-adult specimens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Follicle numbers in acyclic mares were higher regardless of treatment. • Follicular diameter was smaller for the progesterone-treated (P4) group. • Oocytes recovered during the acyclic phase were higher for P4-treated mares. The aim of this study was to evaluate follicular dynamics and ovum pick-up (OPU) efficacy in untreated mares or mares treated with an intravaginal progesterone (P4) device during seasonal anestrus (acyclic) and during the breeding season (cyclic). Six mares (mean age = 5 years), were recruited into an ovum pick-up scheme that was performed every 14 days with and without the P4 device, during the acyclic and cyclic phases. Aspirations amounted to seven procedures with or without the P4 device during each phase. Five ultrasound assessments were performed at each interval between the OPUs. Data on follicular number and diameter as well as the numbers of recovered and the percentage of recovered oocytes were also collected. The number of follicles from mares in the acyclic phase was higher (P <.005) regardless of the treatment. However, the follicular diameter was smaller for the P4 group (P <.005) from the 2nd to the 5th evaluation post-OPU procedure. The percentage of oocytes recovered during the acyclic phase was higher for mares treated with the P4 device (P <.005). Marine mammals are considered sentinel species and may act as indicators of ocean health. Plastic residues are widely distributed in the oceans and are recognised as hazardous contaminants, and once ingested can cause several adverse effects on wildlife. This study aimed to identify and characterise plastic ingestion in the Guiana dolphins (Sotalia guianensis) from the Southwestern Tropical Atlantic by evaluating the stomach contents of stranded individuals through KOH digestion and identification of subsample of particles by LDIR Chemical Imaging System. Most of the individuals were contaminated, and the most common polymers identified were PU, PET and EVA. Microplastics were more prevalent than larger plastic particles (meso- and macroplastics). Smaller particles were detected during the rainy seasons. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between the stomach content mass and the number of microplastics, suggesting contamination through trophic transfer. In order to ensure the access of the visually impaired to all information provided online it is necessary to remove existing barriers on the websites through several existent approaches, from recommendations to web development to validations of existing websites. The issues on navigating through the web that are detected only during the user's interactions on the sites, creates a need to evaluate this user's interactions aiming to ensure the web accessibility. So, in this scenery, this study uses previous researches on the subject and web accessibility rates in order to identify those barriers commonly founded by these users with total visual impairment, as well as to come up with a list of recommendations in order to optimize the evaluation process. Steroidal and non-steroidalanti-inflammatories are pharmaceutical prescribed in human medicine and have the potential to contaminate water and sediments via inputs from sewage treatment plants. Their impacts on humans and ecosystems are emerging issues in environmental health. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effects of diclofenac and dexamethasone in male fish Hoplias malabaricus after trophic exposure. Fish were fed twice every week with Astyanax sp. submitted to intraperitoneal inoculation with diclofenac (0; 0.2; 2.0 or 20.0 μg/kg) or dexamethasone (0; 0.03; 0.3 or 3.0 μg/kg). After 12 doses, blood was collected for testosterone dosage. The gonad and liver were collected to calculate gonadosomatic (GSI) and hepatosomatic index (HSI). Antioxidants enzymes activity and biotransformation were also evaluated in liver and gonads. In liver, diclofenac caused oxidative stress with increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities and lipoperoxidation (LPO). The GST activity was reduced by diclofenac in liver. Trophic exposure of H. malabaricus to dexamethasone caused an increase in antioxidant system (GPx, CAT, GST, and GSH) and LPO in liver. However, it reduced antioxidant system (GPX and GST activities and GSH) in gonads. Both diclofenac and dexamethasone reduced the levels of testosterone, causing impairment to reproduction. Diclofenac reduced HSI at the 0.2 μg/kg, but not GSI. Our results suggest that the anti-inflammatory drugs diclofenac and dexamethasone caused oxidative stress and reduced testosterone levels that can have a negative impact in aquatic organisms. Abstract: Over the years, people suffer changes caused by the aging of the body and might develop some kind of visual, hearing, motor, among others dysfunctions. These limitations may represent difficulties to access services provided by the Internet, which are growing increasingly. This work is an assessment of accessibility of Internet banking service of the Banco do Brasil using the Method Barrier Walkthrough. The application of this technique made it possible to identify, evaluate and suggest improvements to diminish the obstacles that hinder and/or make it impossible for the elderly users to perform tasks on this website. Abstract: The use of technology has increased significantly, so it is important to make the information available and accessible for all people. Through the efforts to promote accessibility, users with visual disabilities have increasingly enjoyed the services provided by the Internet. These technologies tend to approach the reality of theirs members by everyday signs (metaphors), which, when combined with cultural factors, may be used as communication artifacts of approach or detachers between two people from different realities.
