Purpose: Sustainability is viewed as an encompassing perspective, as endorsed by the international policy context, driven by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We aim to examine how women entrepreneurs transform capitals to pursue sustainability, and to generate policy insights for sustainability actions through tourism entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach: Applying qualitative approach, we have generated empirical evidence drawing on 37 qualitative interviews carried out in Turkey, whereby boundaries between traditional patriarchal forces and progressive movements in gender relations are blurred. Findings: We have generated insights into how women entrepreneurs develop their sustainability practice by transforming their available economic, cultural, social and symbolic capitals in interpreting the macro-field and by developing navigation strategies to pursue sustainability. This transformative process demonstrates how gender roles were performed and negotiated in serving for sustainability pillars. Research limitations/implications: In this paper, we demonstrate the nature and instrumentality of sustainable tourism entrepreneurship through a gender lens in addressing some of these SDG-driven challenges. Originality/value: We advance the scholarly and policy debates by bringing gender issues to the forefront, discussing sustainable tourism initiatives from the viewpoint of entrepreneurs and various members of local community and stakeholder in a developing country context where women’s solidarity becomes crucial.

Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) employees constitute one of the largest, but least studied minority groups in the workforce. Given the scarcity of an up to date systematic literature review on sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace since Croteau (1996)and Ward (2003), this study aims to fill this gap through systematic literature review based on rigorous criteria. By examining 52 selected papers, the study specifically attempts to systematize the existing literature, explore key emerging themes and recent developments, identify research gaps, and suggest potential areas for future research. As a result, ‘coming out’, ‘wage inequality’, ‘GLBT employee groups’, ‘the effects of GLBT (non) discrimination on the workplace and business outcomes’ were identified as the major themes of the current review. Social institutions, legal frameworks, and cultural norms were determined as the key pillars of sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace.

Today, knowledge is one of the main resources of organisations and effective management of knowledge is one of the major concerns that organisations face. Given this fact, the main purpose of this article is to examine the knowledge management (KM) practices of manufacturing industry organisations of the Aegean Free Zone in İzmir, Turkey by adopting a survey method. The findings show that there is an association between the practices in use, reasons for using these practices and lastly the benefits that the participant organisations gain. Organisational performance and competitiveness could be increased by using KM practices effectively. Although an organisation’s size is not an obvious factor in KM usage, it was observed that the advantages of using KM practices in large sized organisations are either equal to or greater than those of small sized organisations.

This research aims at exploring and interpreting critically the impacts of tourism on Amsterdam Pride festival in the context of gender equality (SDG 5) and responsible consumption (SDG 12) based on the perceptions and meaning-makings of tourists/visitors attending the Amsterdam Pride. Drawing on 40 in-depth interviews with LGBTQ+ participants supported by participant observation during the event to ensure data triangulation for reflexive inquiry, an inductive thematic content analysis was conducted. The findings highlight that Pride from past to present has been undergoing a major transformation from political and grassroots movements towards a more commercial and an entertainment activity as a new field of agency whose ‘fun’ is also political. This research also contributes to the understanding of gender equality (SDG 5) through considering sexual and gender identity minorities that are not highlighted in SDGs.
