This Japanese retrospective multicenter study included 1,351 eyes with nAMD treated with brolucizumab. Cumulative incidence of IOI 1 year after the first injection was 12.2%. History of inflammation and/or retinal vascular occlusion and female sex were significant risk factors.

We discuss the frequency-domain blind source separation (BSS) of convolutive mixtures when the number of source signals is large, and the potential source locations are omnidirectional. The most critical problem related to the frequency-domain BSS is the permutation problem, and geometric information is helpful as regards solving it. In this paper, we propose a method for obtaining proper geometric information with which to solve the permutation problem when the number of source signals is large and some of the signals come from the same or a similar direction. First, we describe a method for estimating the absolute DOA by using relative DOAs obtained by the solution provided by independent component analysis (ICA) and the far-field model. Next, we propose a method for estimating the spheres on which source signals exist by using ICA solution and the near-field model. We also address another problem with regard to frequency-domain BSS that arises from the circularity of discrete-frequency representation. We discuss the characteristics of the problem and present a solution for solving it. Experimental results using eight microphones in a room show that the proposed method can separate a mixture of six speech signals arriving from various directions, even when two of them come from the same direction.

Introduction. We report the clinical features and clinical course of melanoma-associated retinopathy (MAR), in which autoantibodies against the transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 1 (TRPM1) were detected. Case Presentation. A 74-year-old man was referred to our hospital for treatment of bilateral vision loss. The best-corrected visual acuity was 20/100 in the right eye and 20/200 in the left eye. His electroretinogram (ERG) showed a reduced b-wave and a normal dark-adapted a-wave in both eyes. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed loss of the interdigitation zone in both eyes. We strongly suspected MAR based on the markedly reduced b-wave in the ERG and a history of intranasal melanoma. The diagnosis was confirmed after autoantibodies against TRPM1 were detected in his blood serum. Fifteen months later, his ERG remained unchanged, and OCT showed bilateral cystic changes in the internal nuclear layer. The visual acuity in both eyes also remained unchanged. Conclusions. Anti-TRPM1 autoantibodies were detected in a patient diagnosed with MAR who had negative flash ERG and retinal microstructural abnormalities, and the impairment did not recover during the follow-up period. Identification of anti-TRPM1 antibodies was helpful in confirming the diagnosis of MAR.

Frequency-domain blind source separation (BSS) is shown to be equivalent to two sets of frequency-domain adaptive beamformers (ABFs) under certain conditions. The zero search of the off-diagonal components in the BSS update equation can be viewed as the minimization of the mean square error in the ABFs. The unmixing matrix of the BSS and the filter coefficients of the ABFs converge to the same solution if the two source signals are ideally independent. If they are dependent, this results in a bias for the correct unmixing filter coefficients. Therefore, the performance of the BSS is limited to that of the ABF if the ABF can use exact geometric information. This understanding gives an interpretation of BSS from a physical point of view.

Nondestructive testing (NDT) of grooved metal planes has been demonstrated using a photoacoustic microscope (PAM). The obtained photoacoustic (PA) amplitude image and signal distribution across the groove are clearly different from those obtained for the parallel line defects previously reported. The signal distribution profile shows thermal wave confinement at groove edges. The PA signal peaks at groove edges caused by thermal wave confinement indicated the precise position of the vertical walls of the groove edges, which suggests the feasibility of the application of PAM to NDT of specimens with grooved defects.
