Objective: To compare and assess the primary and secondary closure techniques following extraction of impacted third molars for post-operative complications. Material and Methods: In total, 30 patients ranging between 18-30 years of age and of either sex who had bilaterally impacted mandibular third molars were randomly selected. Split mouth study method was used so that the participants served as their own control. Group 1 consisted of primary closure of left mandibular impacted third molars and Group 2 consisted of secondary closure of right mandibular impacted third molars. Basement evaluations were recorded for each patient along with subjective and objective evaluations for postoperative 7 days. Data analysis was carried out by SPSS 17.0 software using Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon matched-pairs test and t-test. A p-value = 0.05 was assigned as statistically significant. Results: When compared to group 1, group 2 revealed statistically less pain and swelling following the secondary closure of wound from day 1 to 7. There was a significant improvement in mouth opening in Group 2 at day 1 (p=0.0005) and at day 7 (p=0.00001). Conclusion: Secondary wound closure after disimpaction of mandibular third molar results in better postoperative recovery than primary closure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose The present study compared the efficacy of two different doses of labetalol, for attenuation of hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and intubation in hypertensive patients. Patients and methods 75 hypertensive patients, aged 18–60 years undergoing elective surgical procedures, require general anesthesia and orotracheal intubation. Patients were allocated to any of the three groups (25 each), Group C (control) 5 ml 0.9% saline. Group L1 (labetalol) 0.15 mg/kg diluted with 0.9% saline to 5 ml. Group L2 (labetalol) 0.3 mg/kg diluted with 0.9% saline to 5 ml. In the control group 5 ml of 0.9% saline was given i.v. 5 min prior to intubation. In the L1 group 0.15 mg/kg of labetalol was given i.v. 5 min prior to intubation. In the L2 group 0.3 mg/kg of labetalol was given i.v. 5 min prior to intubation. All the patients were subjected to the same standard anesthetic technique. Heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were recorded prior to induction, at time of intubation and 1, 3, 5, and 10 min after intubation. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) and rate pressure product (RPP) were calculated. Results Compared to placebo both the doses of labetalol (0.15 mg/kg) and (0.3 mg/kg) significantly attenuated the rise in heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and RPP during laryngoscopy and intubation. However, the difference was not statistically significant between both doses of labetalol at intubation, 1 min, 3 min and 10 min post-intubation. Conclusion Both doses of labetalol (0.15 mg/kg and 0.3 mg/kg) attenuate hemodynamic response to laryngoscopy and intubation in dose dependent manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, elites in many small ethnic communities in northeast India have made attempts to revive, reform and institutionalize their traditional religious practices in order to stem the tide of conversion to world religions and also to use their new religion as a marker for their ethnic identity. In this paper, I focus on the small Tangsa community, living in the northeast Indian states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and try to understand the processes and intentions that underlie the formation of their new reformed religion called Rangfraism. Friction with Christian missionaries and interaction with Hindu activists in this remote hilly frontier region have played a big role in the process of transforming their traditional system into their "new" religion. I try to ascertain which of the older practices have been retained, which have been adopted from other revival movements in the area and which have been appropriated from Christianity and Hinduism. While it will be clear that the leaders have attempted to take the best from all quarters in order to make their new religion more attractive, the analysis will also demonstrate how that very strategy has led to internal contradictions and, hence, to confusion and resistance. The article focuses on a study which examined the influence of experimental hypothyroidism on hepatic and renal function in rams in an arid tropical environment. To establish control values, several factors are considered include the plasma levels of thyroxin (T4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), and alanine amminotransferase (ALT). This study revealed that thiourea feeding induces hypothyroidism and generalized oxygen starvation at tissue level.

The article discusses a study on the effect of restraint and isolation stress (RIS) in male karakul sheep's hormonal profile. Six male adult sheep were put to restraint and isolation stress after which blood samples were collected and analyzed. The study, conducted by Anil Moolchandani, Meenaxi Saree and Jagdish Vaishnav of Rajasthan Agricultural University in India, found a significant effect of RIS on plasma cortisol of the sheep's hormonal profile.

Goat hair or fleece is most important of specialty fibre. To achieve objectives of the present study it was carried out in three stages. The first stages included collection of information related to present utilization pattern of Goat hair and parallel preference for to be developed value added articles with macramé knot and third stage was evaluation of value added articles. The study was carried out in Bikaner district information about utilization pattern of goat hair was collected from 30 goat keepers as they are using it. Preference for to be developed value added articles was taken from same 30 goat keepers and 30 handicraft persons as they have wider knowledge about handicraft and present demand. By the scoring and ranking method top 10 ranked articles were selected, these were belt, bottle cover, festoon, jhula, key ring, magazine holder, pot holder, telephone mat and wall hangings. In second stage the ten article were developed by researcher using macramé knot and under third stage the assessment of consumer preferences for developed value added articles was made by 90 sample subjects. The 90 respondents were 30 goat keepers, 30 handicraft persons and 30 consumers. 5 point rating scale Performa was administered to 90 respondents for this purpose. In terms of their preference percentage all articles ranged between 70 percent to more than 90 percent. Thus it is concluded that developed articles by the use of goat hair and macramé knot found totally a unique and innovative idea by all the respondents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives. Male infertility is on the rise. Artificial insemination is an option in many cases like oligozoospermia or oligoasthenozoospermia. Homologous insemination is helpful for some couples in whom sperm count is low. This study was aimed to understand the most suitable portion of split ejaculate for insemination and also the level of calcium and magnesium in each split. Materials and methods. A total number of 31 normal and clinically healthy adults participated in this study. They were instructed to maintain abstinence for 2-5 days prior to sample collection in three splits. Each split was evaluated as if it were a whole sample, following WHO criteria. Seminal plasma was separated. Calcium and magnesium levels were measured in seminal plasma and spermatozoa of each split. Results. The split ejaculate study revealed that the first portion contained a higher number of spermatozoa with better motility than the 2nd and 3rd splits. Similarly, the level of calcium and magnesium in seminal plasma and spermatozoa was greater in the first split, followed by 2nd and 3rd splits. Conclusion. The presented split ejaculate study has shown the first ejaculate as superior in quality in terms of total sperm count and percentage of active motility. The first split of ejaculation is recommended for homologous artificial insemination in case of oligozoospermia and oligoasthenozoospermia.
