1. Visible upconversion luminescence of doped bulk silicon for a multimodal wafer metrology

Abstract

We report the experimental observation of the UV-visible upconverted luminescence of bulk silicon under pulsed infrared excitation. We demonstrate that non-stationary distribution of excited carriers leads to the emission at spectral bands never to our knowledge observed before. We show that the doping type and concentration alter the shape of luminescence spectra. Silicon nanoparticles have a size between quantum-confined and Mie-type limits (10–100 nm) yet show increased luminescence intensity when placed atop a silicon wafer. The findings demonstrate that upconversion luminescence can become a powerful tool for nearest future silicon wafer inspection systems as a multimodal technique of measuring the several parameters of the wafer simultaneously.

3. Damping of Cu-Associated Photoluminescence and Formation of Induced Absorption in Heavily Cu-Doped CdSe Quantum Dots

Abstract

We studied photoluminescence (PL) properties and nonlinear absorption characteristics of heavily Cu-doped CdSe colloidal quantum dots (QDs) under nanosecond laser pulse excitation. A strong dependence of basic exciton transition behavior and Cu dopant-associated PL on the concentration of copper ions and pump intensities was revealed for the first time. The saturation of the copper-associated PL signal was found to happen much faster than the saturation of nonlinear absorption. The induced absorption and saturation of high energy transitions due to the exciton–exciton interaction were investigated in Cu-doped CdSe QDs. The obtained results could be useful for the development of optoelectronic devices operating at room temperature on the basis of Cu-doped colloidal QDs.

• Nanoplatelets concentration strongly affects the gain occurrence. • One-photon stationary excitation of excitons are discussed in details. • Nonlinear transmission changes of the colloidal nanoplatelets were analyzed. • Exciton states E 0 and E 1 correspond to the transitions from the same hole sub-band. • Exciton excitation occurs in X point of the two-dimensional Brillouin zone. The experimental investigations of the colloidal heterostructured CdSe/CdS nanoplatelets transient absorption in the regime of one-photon stationary excitation of excitons by high-intensity nanosecond laser pulses are presented. A strong dependence of exciton's transitions behavior on nanoplatelets concentration in colloidal solution and pump intensities was studied for the first time. The revealed nonlinear transmission changes of the nanoplatelets solutions with different optical density were explained by the presence of phase space filling effect, energy exchange between exciton states, reabsorption processes and exciton–exciton interaction. 7. Tunable blue-shift of the charge-transfer photoluminescence in tetrapod-shaped CdTe/CdSe nanocrystals.

[Display omitted] • The photoluminescence features of the nano-tetrapod CdTe/CdSe are investigated. • Tunable giant blue shift of charge-transfer photoluminescence was first discovered. • Blue shift is explained by indirect exciton radius growth with space phase filling. • Charge-transfer photoluminescence shift with the pump intensity growth is revealed. • The nonlinear transmission of molecular donor–acceptor nano-tetrapod is analyzed. The photoluminescence peculiarities and the excited state absorption of the tetrapod-shaped CdTe/CdSe nanocrystals are studied in the single-photon excitation regime. A giant blue shift (≈ 129 meV) of the charge-transfer photoluminescence spectra is revealed for the first time in the molecular nanoscale donor–acceptor system with the pump intensity growth. The photoluminescence lines of the CdTe and CdSe domains, originating from direct electron-hole transitions were observed in addition to the tunable photoluminescence across the indirect gap. Differential transmission spectra reveal the superposition of the exciton's transitions bleaching originating from different structural domains of the CdTe/CdSe nanocrystals, which confirms the observed separated excitonic emission bands in the photoluminescence spectra. The observed features of the photoluminescence and differential transmission spectra allow to determine and to analyze possible exciton's relaxation channels in the CdTe/CdSe nanocrystals. Obtained results make nanocrystals in the form of nano-tetrapods promising for implementation in optoelectronic nanodevices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
