The text examines one of the most important aspects of Russian imperialism, namely its multiculturalism. The practice of exiling politically uncertain people to the east of the Empire, as well as opening the possibilities for some privileged compradors to pursue careers, were only a tiny fraction of the strategies used by the Russian authorities to involve representatives of various national minorities in (co)building the Empire. It allowed the Russian Empire to use those people's physical and intellectual potential to expand the state's borders, including during warfare. The encounter of the Polish exile Bronisław Zaleski and the translator of Tatar origins, Iskander Batyrshyn, during the military campaign against the Khoqand fortress Aq Masjid will serve as an example. By comparing their diaries, which both of them kept throughout the entire expedition, we can gain insights into the intricate nature of their positions within the imperial structure, their reasons for participating in the venture, the impact the hostilities had on the local population, and their perception of this conflict. These documents also reveal patterns of relationship-building between imperial subjects and authorities as well as the role of imperial power in stimulating, restricting or regulating relations between different nations. History education holds strong potential for students to examine how racism and other intersecting forms of oppression embedded within U.S. institutions have and still impact today's social fabric. When rooted in Martell and Stevens' "thinking like an activist" framework, history education provides opportunities for preservice teachers (PSTs) to see, understand, and disrupt the dominant narrative. They can begin to reimagine their roles as future leaders in the classroom and beyond to ensure that all students thrive and not just survive. Thus, for this qualitative study, we engaged our PST in a book study of A Different Mirror for Young People: A History for Multicultural America. Through intentional content and pedagogical choices, we investigated the question, "How do preservice teachers make sense of history using the 'thinking like an activist' framework?" Findings indicated how Takaki's different mirror, as a counternarrative centering the perspectives and experiences of historically marginalized groups, allowed PSTs 1) to unlearn oppressive structures (cultural preparation), 2) begin to develop a sociopolitical consciousness of systemic oppression, albeit through an outsider's perspective (critical analysis), and 3) to analyze how collective action in the past enacted change-although through an already, but not yet, understanding of their role in social change in the present (collective action). The present paper aims to study multiple themes in the select novels of Amit Chaudhuri: A Strange and Sublime Address, Afternoon Raag, and A New World. Amit Chaudhuri is a prestigious literary figure in the modern Indian diasporic writing. Indian diaspora literature has blossom into an academic field during the era of multiculturalism and transnationalism. It thrives through the contributions of Indian-origin authors who have migrated to various nations for diverse reasons. This literary galaxy is adorned by distinguished male and female authors who illuminate the trials and complexities of life abroad through their fictional works. This paper delves into thematic concerns from a diasporic perspective, exploring emotions of affiliation and nostalgia, including childhood, friendship, love, cuisine, and family matters. It also examines themes of identity crisis and loneliness, encompassing cultural, traditional, political, and social discussions, as well as songs. Many contemporary Anglophone Caribbean writers resent their colonial education’s emphasis on British literature, especially Wordsworth’s “Daffodils” poem, which—as V.S. Naipaul, Marlene NourbeSe Philip, Jean Rhys, and Jamaica Kincaid complain—impelled them to admire a flower they had never seen. This essay explores the resentful aesthetics spurred by “the daffodil gap,” a critical trope reflecting the disconnect between colonial education and lived experience. Multicultural literature’s and criticism’s emphasis on “decolonizing the curriculum” encourages the resentful denigration of classic and beloved texts. This essay also employs a close reading of “I wandered lonely as a cloud” to demonstrate how an aesthetics of resentment misconstrues Wordsworth’s poem, which explores human consciousness rather than simply celebrating the beauty of a particular European flower. This article explores the Australian experience of Lunar New Year, a festival originating in mainland China that has allowed its participants to navigate the identity politics of the private sphere alongside the national politics of the public sphere. For the Chinese-Australian community, it has been a means to reaffirm ancestral traditions and forge new transnational identities. Local councils have further capitalised on celebrations to unify cities under a broader social image of multicultural harmony during Australia's post-imperial disorientation and subsequent search for a new sense of nationhood. Finally, as Australia continues to navigate a turbulent relationship with China, Australian politicians have adopted the vibrant rhetoric of the festival to ground Australia's regional identity in the Asia Pacific. This paper explores whether the concepts of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) apply to multilingual university contexts, focusing on the trilingual Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. Utilising a combined methodology including semi-structured interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis, and reflective analysis, we explore two distinct aspects: first, we delve into tutors' perceptions of students' strengths and weaknesses in academic writing across the three languages; second, we examine students' conceptions of academic writing and their lived experiences with it. The findings challenge the conventional understanding of EAP, revealing its limitations in multilingual settings. Both students and lecturers express the need for an inclusive model that sets standards while respecting local values. The research advocates for a balanced approach that supports the transition from local to international academic writing standards in English. In this essay, we draw parallels between the processes of cooking and writing, emphasizing our personal investment as authors and cooks. Reflecting on our experiences cooking empanadas and doenjang-jjigae, we delve into the challenges of translating multicultural food experiences into publishable forms. We develop the concept of "illegible multiculturalisms," and center the power of remaining unidentifiable within digital monolingualism, reimagining multiculturalism pluralistically. This study explores the complicated nature of the citizenship of ethnic return migrants from Japan and Korea, Nikkeijin and Joseonjok. It aims to contribute to the scholarship by demonstrating that racism and nationalism are layered concepts by examining the reasons why Nikkeijin and Joseonjok enjoy preferential treatment to some extent but at the same time become targets of discrimination in Korea and Japan. I draw on Christian Joppke's position that citizenship is composed not only of legal status but also of social and identity elements and utilize two relatively novel concepts that shed new light on the complex nature of Nikkeijin and Joseonjok citizenship. One is Takeyuki Tsuda's concept of ethnoracism, which helps capture the type of racism aimed at groups that are not racially distinct but whose ostensible background differences are essentialized as inferior. The other is Gil-Soo Han's nouveau-riche nationalism, which argues that migrants are evaluated according to the global and developmental status of their country of origin. This comparative analysis helps demonstrate how the lives of Joseonjok and Nikkeijin are shaped by multiple layers of nationalism, racism, and status perceptions in their respective countries of residence. Globalisation, migration trends and transformation in labour laws have changed the face of contemporary organisations' workforces from being homogeneous to one that is culturally diverse. In South Africa, the demise of apartheid in 1994 paved the way for culturally diverse workforces in most sectors of the economy, including schools that draw educators and learners from different cultural backgrounds. The paper investigated the implementation of cultural diversity management policies in uMzinyathi District Schools in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The paper is exploratory, and descriptive and adopts a qualitative approach. Thirty-six School Management Team members from ten uMzinyathi District Schools were interviewed after being purposively sampled. Content analysis was used to analyse data. The paper revealed that schools are implementing cultural diversity policies, although policies are adequate, they rely on national policies in redressing past imbalances. Evidence shows that School Management Teams were divided regarding the measures for and adherence to implementing diversity policies. In evaluating the making of the language provisions of the Indian Constitution, this paper tries to argue that the idea of Constitutional parity of languages in the Indian polity of a secular nation was overlooked, in contrast to the Constitution's ethos of recognizing and respecting the diverse religions of the land. The Constitution has failed to consider languages as yet another cultural artefact, like religion. By proposing a mono-linguistic model of 'official language', the provisions actually gave way for a 'national' language in disguise, while also valuing and promoting Hindi's Sanskritic roots, thereby assuring Sanskrit a role and visibility in the future of the modern, new-born nation. Finally, the paper tries to propose that the lack of linguistic parity in the legal realm, in terms of state's recognition and patronage, impact the growth and expansion of languages negatively, by exploring the specific case of Bhojpuri language. The Latine population in the United States is increasing, leading to a higher need for bilingual counseling services. Therefore, counselor educators and supervisors must ensure bilingual counselors receive proper ethnocultural and linguistic competence training. This article aims to highlight the significance of bilingual counseling competencies in counselor education, emphasize the importance of linguistic training in cultural competence training, and propose a set of linguistic and ethnocultural competencies to help establish a proficient bilingual counselor. Events based on food from various cultures are often promoted as multicultural and as opportunities for establishing insights into other cultures. They are also highlighted as springboards for recently immigrated food entrepreneurs and as spaces for labour market integration. However, with such events often having underlying social agendas and sometimes being free of charge, such aims risk being undermined. Generally being linked to minority cultures, food events also risk leading to exotification where individuals are made into symbols of multiculturalism, which consolidates the idea that cultural diversity is an offer for an ethnic majority to enjoy. This paper aims to open a critical debate on multicultural food events by exploring barriers to inclusion and the influence of prejudice. Criticism aimed at misuses of multiculturalism in relation to food events and tourism is used as a theoretical lens for the analysis of two types of food events. The findings illustrate how shallow interpretations of multiculturalism still influence tourism products and reinforce the norms they claim to counteract. The purpose of this research is to get a better understanding of the impact of the Stockholm Fire Festival on the cultural integration of immigrant communities, and particularly its impact on the sociocultural integration of individual participants into Swedish society. The methodological approach is mixed-methods, consisting of participant observation, and a selected part of the data from 280 completed surveys based on answers to open-ended and closed-ended questions. The results indicate that participation in the festival and its celebration have a positive impact at the macro and ethnic community levels in terms of recognition of the festival by the host society, and thereby cultural integration, identity and inclusion of the ethnic community in the entire society. However, the results do not support the idea that participation in this festival has a positive impact on the sociocultural integration of the individual participants into society. Sociocultural integration presupposes intercultural encounters between immigrant individuals, between them and other ethnic groups (including the natives). It is evident that this festival cannot create such a platform for individual participants. This research contributes to the existing body of research on immigrant-oriented festivals in Western societies and strengthens the debates on migration, inclusion, integration, multiculturalism and interculturalism. This article follows the story of prohibited immigrant Noory Aziz and the long battle between Department of Immigration officials and Tasmanian Liberal MP Michael Hodgman over his residency status. It examines how Hodgman and the Department presented competing narratives around Aziz with each narrative informed by the shifting racial politics and social contexts of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Drawing on the Department's detailed archival record, it is argued that each contending side in this battle constructed a concept of 'immigrant' that represented, on the one hand, the undeserving migrant of poor character and, on the other, the ideal migrant, exemplary of the 'type' of immigrant that Australia ought to favour. Multilingualism and multiculturalism have become major preoccupations for Library and Information Science (LIS) which has to be as fair as possible to ensure and sustain knowledge diversity as a driver for development. This paper offers a broad overview of multilingualism and multiculturalism embedding into Digital Libraries (DL). We survey studies written in English over the past two decades (from 2002 to 2022) and indexed in one or more of the following databases: Science Direct, Google Scholars, Taylor and Francis, and Emerald Insight. We summarized studies to offer insights and outline opportunities in this area and classify them into five research themes: (i) studies describing Cross-Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) in Digital Libraires, (ii) studies describing building, enriching and using multilingual resources in digital libraries (iii) studies focusing on multilingual digital libraries initiatives, (iv) studies on collaboration, minority languages and ethics issues in digital libraries, and (v) studies on multilingual user needs. Like elsewhere throughout the world, Israel has experienced waves of internal and external migration, and these phenomena have exerted a strong influence on the country's development, as well as on the phenomenon of acculturation and relations between the majority and minority groups. In the case of Israel, Arab and ultra-Orthodox citizens migrate in an ongoing process into the living spaces of the majority and create mixed spaces. This article examines the influence of these processes of acculturation on social resilience and national security, and explores whether Israel is sufficiently aware of the challenge that these demographic changes create and is prepared to address them. The article surveys acculturation models for absorption of both foreign immigrants and internal migrants from minority groups among the majority group in Western countries, exploring which could be implemented in Israel on a national and municipal level. The assumption is that the rapid growth of minority groups in Israel--including those that do not identify with the national ethos, feel they are outsiders, are alienated from the state, and oppose its national institutions--could lead to friction between the majority group and the minority and could even deteriorate into violence, which would undermine social resilience and Israel's national security. Adopting a suitable policy to counter this challenge is vital if Israel is to ensure a diverse society with high levels of identity and resilience. The article proposes ways to develop a municipal model to integrate minority groups and help them connect to the majority, in order to minimize these risks and pave the way for a more cohesive society. The significant increase in immigration in Chile poses great challenges in schools that receive new students. However, there is not enough information on how schools and teachers embrace this new diversity. In this context, this article analyses multicultural beliefs and constructivist teaching practices in Chilean schools. Although this study tries to describe teaching beliefs and practices, it also explores, through a multivariate analysis, the explanatory factors of teachers' constructivist and multicultural tendencies. A questionnaire was applied to teachers and students to analyse and compare their perceptions and practices. The results suggest clues about the relevance of "individual educational" personal variables informing inclusive and culturally sensitive education. The "systemic level" variables, the institutional ones, do not show the same incidence in terms of multicultural beliefs and constructivist teaching practices. Recent scholarship on alternative dispute resolution forums has shown how the gendered ideology of the state is reproduced in these forums. These forums are said to consolidate the public-private divide and constitute the heterosexual, monogamous family as an affective, nurturing unit that society needs to valorise. Based upon an ethnographic exploration of female litigants in two kinds of alternative dispute resolution forums – a women's grievance redressal cell run by citizens' groups and a women's sharia court run by female Muslim activists in Mumbai – this article traces how women reconstitute gendered roles within the family and challenge the state's gendered ideology as they navigate the porous boundaries of state and non-state law. It also brings to the fore the similar ways in which women negotiate marital disputes while negotiating state and non-state law in different kinds of alternative dispute resolution forums. Women focus on questions of economic security, property rights, and demonstrate a range of affects such as betrayal, disappointment, anger, and hurt as they navigate polygamous arrangements and creatively manoeuvre spaces of alternative dispute resolution. These gendered negotiations challenge a paradigm of reified gendered kinship roles based on a gendered division of labour in the heterosexual family. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The transformation of society that has led to the advent of digital technology does not necessarily result in the breakdown of the social system. Concerns about a new value system that supplants traditional values among the millennial generation have yet to be substantiated. Furthermore, fears of religious ideology being fueled by computer algorithms have not been observed among millennials in Central Kalimantan. In fact, the participation of the millennial generation in the digital communication sphere has led to a more open and tolerant religious perspective, rather than a monolithic religious vision. Their observance of the intersection of religion and politics in national discourse has made them uninterested in seeking out or consuming religious and state-related issues. Instead, they tend to favor topics related to human relationships, conveyed in a smooth and engaging manner. This reflects the millennial generation's desire for a modern and uncomplicated religious life, placing religious issues in the private rather than public sphere. While this study provides a comprehensive picture of the religious vision of millennials in Central Kalimantan, a more nuanced understanding can be achieved by comparing it to similar research in a different and more complex technological context, such as Java. In the article, the authors present their opinions on art topics like cultural hybridity, displacement, and their experiences as Asian American artists. Other topics include the issues of systemic racism and racial disparities in the U.S., the feasibility of narratives and dialogues as research methods, and how narrative identity can play a key role in the lives of adolescents.

Management of ethnic relations requires deliberate political intervention and innovative engineering to cope with changing needs, expectations and demands. This paper documents the approach taken by Singapore and argues that repeated association of peaceful co-existence of the racial groups with progress and prosperity is key to maintain racial religious stability. White liberals like to claim that they live in a post-racial society. Furthermore, they believe that most people do not sympathize with the far-right. However, it is not racism fueling right-wing extremism in North America and Western Europe but the dominant ideology, liberalism. Consequently, Slavoj Žižek argues that racism is a problem concerning "objective violence," which he further breaks down into "symbolic violence" and "systemic violence." These primarily target minority groups. Thus, "objective violence" best explains the West's problematic views of Muslims and Islam since it supports what Edward Said refers to as "Orientalism" and reproduces racist depictions of racialized communities. These are incredibly harmful since the West still perceives the Orient and its residents as violent, strange, and backward. These Orientalist attitudes ultimately lead to discrimination against Muslims and Arabs. This research addresses the problem of the imposition of educational spaces in multicultural contexts. The research is of qualitative nature, based on an interpretative hermeneutic paradigm. It uses collective case study design. The selection of participants was non-probabilistic and intentional, and snowball sampling was used, selecting 15 teachers and 24 students. It is concluded that Chilean schools in multicultural contexts show a lack of social and cultural relevance in the construction and organization of spaces. In addition, it is concluded that educational establishments should consider the implementation of pedagogical and didactic strategies in contact with nature, given that, as has already been demonstrated, children often prefer outdoor experiences as ideal spaces for learning. This article aims to outline the practices of social interaction between individuals and/or social groups in the urban spaces of our cities. Cities represent the most suitable context for analyzing the interactive dynamics between foreigners and residents. The cities have always offered opportunities for foreigners to meet and they represent a pole of attraction for individuals and groups looking for opportunities. This phenomenon has made them free spaces for the coexistence of people with different social and cultural backgrounds (Mantovan 2015; Simmel 1903). Observing the daily practices of coexistence it is possible overcoming a normative vision that considers the individuals within rigid categories, highlighting how concretely subjects build and redefine their relationships and identity day by day (Colombo 2015).
