AbstractThis paper presents the performance of a multifunctional generic compound, 4-Aminobenzoic acid (4ABA) as migratory inhibitor applied on hardened concrete surface to curb corrosion due to combined chloride and carbonated environment. Electrochemical techniques (LPR and EIS), gravimetric analysis were applied to evaluate the corrosion performance and the inhibition mechanism of 4ABA. Chloride and carbonation profiles were developed to investigate the dominant cause of corrosion during the exposure. Visual and microscopic analysis of concrete surface and rebar surface was also done. Compressive strength test was performed to study the effect of corrosion inhibitor on strength property of hardened concrete. Results confirm that 4ABA prolonged the passive state of rebar when used as preventive measure and restrained the on-going corrosion process when employed as repair strategy. Combined exposure by chlorides and CO2leads to redistribution of chloride ions in concrete matrix. The results also conclude that during the combined exposure, chloride ions initiate the corrosion process and carbonation aggravates this process. Application of 4ABA does not influence the strength properties of concrete. ABA has performed the inhibition by protective layer development and shield formation against the negatively charged corrosive ions. Blended cement concrete system which was observed to be more vulnerable to corrosion was seen to attain similar corrosion resistance as OPC concrete after inhibitor application.

SARS-CoV-2 infection is the most contagious among the three coronavirus infections the world has witnessed to date, which has affected almost all parts of the world in millions of population since its outbreak in China in December 2019. Moreover, it has severely hit the world economy and therefore there is a dire need to develop the treatment of this deadly disease. A number of potential vaccines are in the early or advanced stage of clinical trials. But the development of a vaccine is a very tedious and time-consuming task. Therefore, various groups are working on repurposing of drugs with already known safety and efficacy profiles to shorten the time of development of the potential treatment. The main aim of this review article is to summarize the clinical outcomes of Interleukin receptor antagonists and Janus kinase inhibitors based drugs which have been repurposed for the treatment of COVID-19 associated with SARS-CoV-2.

The recent emergence of novel, pathogenic COVID-19 disease associated with SARSCoV- 2 virus in China and its rapid national and international spread pose a global health emergency. The development of a new drug is tedious and may take decades to develop and involve multiple steps like the development of prototypes and phase I to III human trials, which involve the study on small to large populations to examine the safety and side effects associated with the drug under trials. Due to continous increase in the number of confirmed cases and deaths, there is an urgent need to develop a drug that is effective to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus with fewer side effects to the human body. Therefore, this review focus on the latest advances in the development for the treatment of COVID-19 disease associated with SARS-CoV-2 with repositioning of already marketed drug with small molecules, as well as Chinese traditional medicines with established safety and efficacy which are being used for different therapeutic uses.

This paper explores the influence of 2-aminopyridine (2AP) as water-based migratory corrosion inhibitor (M-CoI) on the corrosion resistance of reinforcing steel bars embedded in ordinary Portland cement and pozzolanic Portland cement concrete subjected to combined chloride and carbonation ingress. Two applications of 2AP are considered i.e., preventive (applied before exposure to aggressive environment) and repair (applied after corrosion initiates). Corrosion performance was assessed using electrochemical techniques and gravimetric mass loss method. The study also examines the impact of 2AP application on chloride ion concentration and carbonation depth of both concrete systems. The compressive strength of each concrete system was also measured to study the impact of M-CoI application on strength properties. Surface condition of hardened concrete and extracted rebar was evaluated by optical microscopy. Results conclude that 2AP effectively retards reinforcement corrosion when used as preventive measure by forming a homogeneous inhibitive layer on steel. However, when used as a repair technique, localised and uniform corrosion was perceived. An attempt has been made to identify the cause of non-performance of 2AP as repair measure. It was concluded that reached concentration of 1 mM was not sufficient to reduce ongoing corrosion due to the accumulation of corrosion products. The influence of the inhibitor on chloride profile and carbonation depth was found to be insignificant. It is concluded that chloride ions initiate the corrosion mechanism, while carbonation exacerbates it, particularly in blended cement concrete. Nonetheless, inhibitor application can provide similar resistance in both concrete systems.

Abstract: Tamoxifen is one of the important tricyclicethylene moieties and recognized as an important drug candidate because of extensive applications in the field of medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry. Recently, ample attention is given to this analogue by organic and medicinal chemistry community due to its successful utilization for the inhibition of estrogen receptor in MCF‐7 breast cancer cell lines. Due to its structural character, tamoxifen is also useful in material chemistry. The synthesis of tamoxifen and its anlogues is desirable from easily available chemicals as an important drug candidate. Here, we report a review on various synthetic schemes for tamoxifen and its anlogues employing use of different strategies such as formation of C−C, C=C and C≡C bonds, C−H functionalization, addition to alkynes, insertion reaction, nucleophilic substitution and addition reactions, elimination reaction, reductive couplings etc. Various synthetic approacheswith transition‐metal catalysts are used for the preparation of biological active tamoxifen and derivatives.

We report the synthesis of [2]catenanes (Hopf links) in water utilizing disulfides and aromatic donor–acceptor interactions. The electron-rich dialkoxynaphthalene (DN) building blocks interact with electron-deficient naphthalenediimide (NDI) moieties connected by a polyamine chain. We study the effect of the polyamine linkers on the behavior of the library. The polyamine’s length and the number of nitrogen atoms in the chain affect the library distribution, leading in some cases to the assembly of catenanes in up to 93% yield.

An antipyrine and naphthoic acid-based hybrid molecular architect was synthesized and its photophysical behavior towards various cations and anions was further investigated. Probe 1was used for the selective estimation of Al3+ions and signalled the binding event through the formation of a new absorption band at 405 nm and a ‘turn-on’ fluorescence band at 505 nm viathe CHEF effect, and restricting the PET phenomenon with the lowest detection limit of 28 nM. Probe 1demonstrated selective estimation of CN−and OH−ions among all other anions by forming a new absorption band at 400 nm and a fluorescence ‘turn-on’ at 520 nm with the lowest detection limit of 77 nM. Aluminium concentration of up to 7.4–8.6 ppm was also detected by probe 1in sewage water. All the results were correlated by 1H NMR titrations and theoretical studies.

Diabetes is a serious and chronic problem that can be attributed to the insufficient release of the insulin or when body does not respond to the insulin which is already present. This disease has been targeted for corrective action and implementation among four non-communicable diseases by world leaders according to WHO report. The prevalence of diabetes has been estimated to be double from 4.7% of adult population in 1980 to 8.5% in the present scenario. The estimated deaths due to this epidemic disease were 1.5 million in 2012 alone. Currently, approximately 400 million people are suffering from diabetes worldwide. Although the factors leading to Type I diabetes are unknown, there are many therapies available in market for Type II disease which bags more than 90% of the total diabetes cases. But, the current treatment for this disease seems to be lacking in terms of proper management of disease, while insulin still remains the ultimate therapy to achieve comparatively effective glycemic control. In this review, an attempt has been made to summarize the patent applications filed in the field of pulmonary delivery of insulin as dry powder through an inhaler in various formulations. This review will provide an insight to the development and advancement for various formulations of insulin and the design of inhaler to improve the bioavailability of powder formulation of insulin, which would provide an alternate treatment with better acceptability or tolerability among the patients as compared to the intravenous delivery to offer better management of epidemic diabetes.

Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine has been shown to be an important biologically active moiety. This review is a compilation of the scattered output of results of the anticancer activities of the imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine system since 2001, which have been classified as inhibition of CDK, VEGFR, PI3K, EGFR, RGGT etc. along with inhibition against different tumor cell lines. Various imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine based analogues have been used as lead molecules and are now under human clinical trials. This review will help the wider scientific community in the area of drug discovery of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines as novel anticancer agents.
