The article reports on a 2013 study of the effects of fasting and refeeding on the metabolic functions of the turtle Kinosternon scorpiodes (Linnaeus, 1766) raised in captivity. Experiments on the subject turtles show that fasting impacted blood glucose concentration in young animals, with the metabolite decreasing after 30 days in young and adult animals, and not recovering after15 days of refeeding. The fasting of the species reportedly led to adaptations similar to reptiles and fish.
