2. Effect of Proton Pump Inhibitor on the Outcome of Laryngeal Microsurgery in Patients With Vocal Fold Mucosal Disease With Reflux Symptoms.

- Abstract
To evaluate the effect of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) after laryngeal microsurgery (LMS) in patients with benign vocal fold (VF) mucosal disease and in patients with overt reflux symptom according to subjective and objective voice assessment. The improvement of voice handicap index-10 (VHI-10) score, reflux symptom index (RSI) score, grade, roughness, breathiness, asthenia, and strain (GRBAS) score, Jitter, Shimmer, noise to harmonics ratio (NHR), maximum phonation time of acoustic voice analysis A total of 47 patients (PPI group [ n = 24] and non-PPI group [ n = 23]) completed the study. The scores for VHI-10, RSI, GRBAS, and acoustic parameters significantly improved in both groups after surgery. In the subgroup analysis of patients with overt reflux symptoms (RSI ≥ 13; non-PPI group [ n = 12], PPI group [ n = 15]), significant between-group differences were observed in terms of the improvement in NHR and the strain factor. Postoperative PPI administration in patients with VF benign mucosal disease with reflux symptoms might improve subjective and objective voice outcomes after LMS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3. Highly Functionalized SuFEx-able Hub Bearing All-Carbon Quaternary Center via Rapid Brønsted Superbase Catalysis

- Abstract
A rapid Brønsted superbase catalysis for highly functionalized sulfur(VI)–fluoride exchange (SuFEx) hubs bearing all-carbon quaternary centers was developed. Remarkable functional group tolerance toward esters and nitriles was achieved by Michael addition of cyanoacetate derivatives to ethenesulfonyl fluoride with low catalyst loadings (∼0.5 mol %) within a short reaction time (0.5–30 min). Gram-scalability, water tolerance, and compatibility in polymeric catalysis showcase its unique practicability. SuFEx click conjugations were demonstrated using various amines, including DNA-tethered biomolecules.

4. Expanding Clinical Spectrum of Anti-GQ1b Antibody Syndrome: A Review

- Abstract
IMPORTANCE: The discovery of the anti-GQ1b antibody has expanded the nosology of classic Miller Fisher syndrome to include Bickerstaff brainstem encephalitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome with ophthalmoplegia, and acute ophthalmoplegia without ataxia, which have been brought under the umbrella term anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome. It seems timely to define the phenotypes of anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome for the proper diagnosis of this syndrome with diverse clinical presentations. This review summarizes these syndromes and introduces recently identified subtypes. OBSERVATIONS: Although ophthalmoplegia is a hallmark of anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome, recent studies have identified this antibody in patients with acute vestibular syndrome, optic neuropathy with disc swelling, and acute sensory ataxic neuropathy of atypical presentation. Ophthalmoplegia associated with anti-GQ1b antibody positivity is complete in more than half of the patients but may be monocular or comitant. The prognosis is mostly favorable; however, approximately 14% of patients experience relapse. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome may present diverse neurological manifestations, including ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, areflexia, central or peripheral vestibulopathy, and optic neuropathy. Understanding the wide clinical spectrum may aid in the differentiation and management of immune-mediated neuropathies with multiple presentations.

10. Association Between Orthostatic Hypertension and Frailty Among Older Patients With Hypertension.

BACKGROUND: Frailty frequently coexists with hypertension in older patients. We aimed to evaluate the association between frailty and positional change in blood pressure, especially orthostatic hypertension. METHODS: Participants were recruited from 12 University hospitals in South Korea. Using a digital device, trained research nurses measured blood pressure in the supine and standing positions. Physical frailty was evaluated using the Korean version of the FRAIL questionnaire, gait speed, and handgrip strength. Orthostatic hypertension was defined as a ≥20-mm Hg increase in systolic blood pressure within 3 minutes of standing and upright systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mm Hg. RESULTS: We analyzed the data of 2065 participants who had been enrolled until December 31, 2022. The mean age was 73.2±5.6 years, and 52.0% were female. The mean blood pressure was 137.1±14.9/75.1±9.7 mm Hg. Among the participants, 1886 (91.3%) showed normal response after standing, but 94 (4.6%) had orthostatic hypertension, and 85 (4.1%) had orthostatic hypotension. Orthostatic hypertension was associated with female sex, obesity, cognitive function, physical frailty, and lower quality of life. In the multivariable analysis, body mass index and frailty status were independently associated with orthostatic hypertension. CONCLUSIONS: Orthostatic hypertension is associated with physical frailty, cognitive impairment, and low quality of life in older patients with hypertension. Therefore, evaluation of orthostatic blood pressure changes to confirm orthostatic hypertension or hypotension in frail older adults will serve as an important diagnostic procedure in vulnerable patients. 13. Wet tissue adhesive polymeric powder hydrogels for skeletal muscle regeneration

- Abstract
Volumetric muscle loss (VML) frequently results from traumatic incidents and can lead to severe functional disabilities. Hydrogels have been widely employed for VML tissue regeneration, which are unfortunately ineffective because of the lack of intimate contact with injured tissue for structural and mechanical support. Adhesive hydrogels allow for strong tissue connections for wound closure. Nevertheless, conventional adhesive hydrogels exhibit poor tissue adhesion in moist, bleeding wounds due to the hydration layer at the tissue–hydrogel interfaces, resulting in insufficient performance. In this study, we developed a novel, biocompatible, wet tissue adhesive powder hydrogel consisting of dextran-aldehyde (dex-ald) and gelatin for the regeneration of VML. This powder absorbs the interfacial tissue fluid and buffer solution on the tissue, spontaneously forms a hydrogel, and strongly adheres to the tissue via various molecular interactions, including the Schiff base reaction. In particular, the powder composition with a 1:4 ratio of dex-ald to gelatin exhibited optimal characteristics with an appropriate gelation time (258 s), strong tissue adhesion (14.5 kPa), and stability. Dex-ald/gelatin powder hydrogels presented strong adhesion to various organs and excellent hemostasis compared to other wet hydrogels and fibrin glue. A mouse VML injury model revealed that the dex-ald/gelatin powder hydrogel significantly improved muscle regeneration, reduced fibrosis, enhanced vascularization, and decreased inflammation. Consequently, our wet-adhesive powder hydrogel can serve as an effective platform for repairing various tissues, including the heart, muscle, and nerve tissues.

- Abstract
The organic molecular 2,2′,7,7′-tetrakis(4,4′-dimethoxy-3-methyldiphenylamino)-9,9′-spirobifluorene (Spiro-MeOTAD) is known as a typical hole transport material in the development of an all-solid-state perovskite solar cell (PSC). Spiro-MeOTAD requires additives of lithium bifurflimide (LiTFSI) and 4-tert-butylpyridine (tBP) to increase the conductivity and solubility for enhancing the photovoltaic performance of PSCs. However, those additives have an adverse effect on the thermal stability. We report on the origin of instability of additive-containing Spiro-MeOTAD at 85 °C and the methodology to solve the thermal instability. We have found that the interaction of LiTFSI with the underneath perovskite surface facilitated by diffusive tBP is responsible for thermal degradation. Degasification of tBP from the Spiro-MeOTAD film is found to be the key to achieving thermally stable PSCs, where the optimal degassing process achieves 90% of the initial power conversion efficiency (PCE) at 85 °C after 1000 h.

Despite the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) and portable devices, the development of zero-biased sensing systems for the dual detection of light and gases remains a challenge. As an emerging technology, direct energy conversion driven by intriguing physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials can be realized in nanodevices or a zero-biased integrated system. In this study, we unprecedentedly attempted to exploit the photostimulated pyrothermoelectric coupling of two-dimensional SnSe for use in zero-biased multimodal transducers for the dual detection of light and gases. We synthesized homogeneous, large-area 6 in SnSe multilayers via a rational synthetic route based on the thermal decomposition of a solution-processed single-source precursor. Zero-biased SnSe transducers for the dual monitoring of light and gases were realized by exploiting the synergistic coupling of the photostimulated pyroelectric and thermoelectric effects of SnSe. The extracted photoresponsivity at 532 nm and NO2gas responsivity of the SnSe-based transducers corresponded to 1.07 × 10–6A/W and 13263.6% at 0 V, respectively. To bring universal applicability of the zero-biased SnSe transducers, the wide operation bandwidth photoelectrical properties (visible to NIR) and dynamic current responses toward two NO2/NH3gases were systematically evaluated.

16. Multiarray Gas Sensors Using Ternary Combined Ti3C2TxMXene-Based Nanocomposites

This paper reports chemiresistive multiarray gas sensors through the synthesized ternary nanocomposites, using a one-pot method to integrate two-dimensional MXene (Ti3C2Tx) with Ti-doped WO3(Ti-WO3/Ti3C2Tx) and Ti3C2Txwith Pd-doped SnO2(Pd-SnO2/Ti3C2Tx). The gas sensors based on Ti-WO3/Ti3C2Txand Pd-SnO2/Ti3C2Txexhibit exceptional sensitivity, particularly in detecting 70% at 1 ppm acetone and 91.1% at 1 ppm of H2S. Notably, our sensors demonstrate a remarkable sensing performance in the low-ppb range for acetone and H2S. Specifically, the Ti-WO3/Ti3C2Txsensor demonstrates a detection limit of 0.035 ppb for acetone, and the Pd-SnO2/Ti3C2Txsensor shows 0.116 ppb for H2S. Simultaneous measurements with Ti-WO3/Ti3C2Tx- and Pd-SnO2/Ti3C2Tx-based sensors enable the evaluation of both the concentration and type of unknown target gases, such as acetone or H2S. Furthermore, density functional theory calculations are performed to clarify the role of Ti and Pd doping in enhancing the performance of Ti-WO3/Ti3C2Txand Pd-SnO2/Ti3C2Txnanocomposites. Theoretical simulations contribute to a deeper understanding of the doping effects, providing essential insights into the mechanisms underlying the enhanced gas response of the gas sensors. Overall, this work provides valuable insights into the gas-sensing mechanisms and introduces a novel approach for high-performance multiarray gas sensing.

17. Work function tuning of a weak adhesion homojunction for stable perovskite solar cells

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have demonstrated a comparable efficiency to Si-based cells. However, the buried interface with weak adhesion remains a critical issue since the ion migration enhanced by the built-in electric field at this interface might lead to instability. We report here that adjusting the energy-level alignment at the weak adhesion homojunction interface can mitigate ion migration and thereby enhance the stability and photovoltaic performance of PSCs. Functional molecules with self-assembled monolayer characteristics were introduced to the surface of the SnO2layer using silane derivatives, which tuned the work function of the homojunction depending on the functional groups in the molecules and thereby significantly reduced the built-in electric field. The PSC exhibited a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.3%. The maximum power point (MPP) tracking under continuous illumination confirmed that the device retained more than 97% of its initial PCE, even after 1,000 h.

- Abstract
In-vitromeat production has entered into the phase of pilot-commercial scale production from the conceptual-laboratory phase. The main challenge for in-vitromeat production on a commercial scale is the very high cost of its production, mainly due to the cost of cell culture media, growth regulators, and the requirement of highly skilled manpower. The development of serum-free and animal-free culture media with plant, microbial, and fungi-derived compounds through recombinant technology and media recycling is crucial for scaling up in-vitromeat production and reducing the price of the end products. The proper design of bioreactors specific to in-vitromeat production, their automation, utilization of natural and edible scaffolds, and microcarriers made up of edible materials are the present focus of researchers. The co-culturing by proliferating various cells such as adipocytes, chondrocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells are applied for imparting textural and organoleptic attributes to developed products similar to conventional meat. The industrial process to produce in-vitromeat needs a clear synergy between the biological, chemical, technical, and industrial fields because at the moment the main research focus is on the development and improvement of cell lines available to set up cell culture and culture media, bioreactors, cell lines, scaffolding, and biofabrication. The research on in-vitromeat is limited by the fact that from the industry the protocols are not properly divulgated.

20. Hydrophobic surface induced pro-metastatic cancer cells for in vitroextravasation models

- Abstract
In vitrovascularized cancer models utilizing microfluidics have emerged as a promising tool for mechanism study and drug screening. However, the lack of consideration and preparation methods for cancer cellular sources that are capable of adequately replicating the metastatic features of circulating tumor cells contributed to low relevancy with in vivoexperimental results. Here, we show that the properties of cancer cellular sources have a considerable impact on the validity of the in vitrometastasis model. Notably, with a hydrophobic surface, we can create highly metastatic spheroids equipped with aggressive invasion, endothelium adhesion capabilities, and activated metabolic features. Combining these metastatic spheroids with the well-constructed microfluidic-based extravasation model, we validate that these metastatic spheroids exhibited a distinct extravasation response to epidermal growth factor (EGF) and normal human lung fibroblasts compared to the 2D cultured cancer cells, which is consistent with the previously reported results of in vivoexperiments. Furthermore, the applicability of the developed model as a therapeutic screening platform for cancer extravasation is validated through profiling and inhibition of cytokines. We believe this model incorporating hydrophobic surface-cultured 3D cancer cells provides reliable experimental data in a clear and concise manner, bridging the gap between the conventional in vitromodels and in vivoexperiments.

We isolated a high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) virus from a common pochard (Aythya ferina) that was being attacked by a bird of prey in South Korea in December 2020. Genetic analyses indicated that the isolate was closely related to the clade 2.3.4.4b H5N8 HPAI viruses found in South Korea and Japan during the winter season of 2020–2021. The histopathological examination revealed multifocal necrotizing inflammation in the liver, kidney, and spleen. Viral antigens were detected in the liver, kidney, spleen, trachea, intestine, and pancreas, indicating the HPAI virus caused a systemic infection. The presence of immunoreactivity for the viral antigen was observed in the cells involved in multifocal necrotic inflammation. Notably, epitheliotropic-positive patterns were identified in the epithelial cells of the trachea, mucosal epithelium of the intestine, and ductular epithelium of the pancreas. These findings provide direct evidence supporting the possibility of HPAI transmission from infected waterfowl to predators. Detectado en el acto: Aislamiento y caracterización de un virus de la influenza aviar de alta patogenicidad del clado 2.3.4.4b H5N8 de un porrón común (Aythya ferina) atacado por un halcón peregrino (Falco peregrinus). Se aisló un virus de la influenza aviar (HPAI) de alta patogenicidad de un porrón común (Aythya ferina) que estaba siendo atacado por un ave rapaz en Corea del Sur en diciembre de 2020. Los análisis genéticos indicaron que el aislado estaba estrechamente relacionado con virus de influenza aviar de alta patogenicidad H5N8, clado 2.3.4.4 b encontrados en Corea del Sur y Japón durante la temporada de invierno de 2020–2021. El examen histopatológico reveló inflamación necrotizante multifocal en hígado, riñón y bazo. Se detectaron antígenos virales en el hígado, el riñón, el bazo, la tráquea, el intestino y el páncreas, lo que indica que este virus de alta patogenicidad causó una infección sistémica. Se observó la presencia de inmunorreactividad para el antígeno viral en las células involucradas en la inflamación necrótica multifocal. En particular, se identificaron patrones epiteliotrópicos positivos en las células epiteliales de la tráquea, el epitelio mucoso del intestino y el epitelio ductular del páncreas. - Abstract
Neuropathic pain is caused by injury or disease of the somatosensory system, and its course is usually chronic. Several studies have been dedicated to investigating neuropathic pain-related targets; however, little attention has been paid to the persistent alterations that these targets, some of which may be crucial to the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain. The present study aimed to identify potential targets that may play a crucial role in neuropathic pain and validate their long-term impact. Through bioinformatics analysis of RNA sequencing results, we identified Slc9a1 and validated the reduced expression of sodium-hydrogen exchanger 1 (NHE1), the protein that Slc9a1 encodes, in the spinal nerve ligation (SNL) model. Colocalization analysis revealed that NHE1 is primarily co-localized with vesicular glutamate transporter 2-positive neurons. In vitro experiments confirmed that poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles loaded with siRNA successfully inhibited NHE1 in SH-SY5Y cells, lowered intracellular pH, and increased intracellular calcium concentrations. In vivo experiments showed that sustained suppression of spinal NHE1 expression by siRNA-loaded nanoparticles resulted in delayed hyperalgesia in naïve and SNL model rats, whereas amiloride-induced transient suppression of NHE1 expression yielded no significant changes in pain sensitivity. We identified Slc9a1 , which encodes NHE1, as a key gene in neuropathic pain. Utilizing the sustained release properties of nanoparticles enabled us to elucidate the chronic role of decreased NHE1 expression, establishing its significance in the mechanisms of neuropathic pain. We report the surface modification of nanochannels whose channels are formed from stacked and overlapping graphene oxide sheets, in which the high density of nitrogen/oxygen groups and networks of H bonds serve as excellent proton channels but block the transport of cations such as Li+and Na+. The membrane has excellent stability when immersed for long periods under water and has an NaCl rejection rate of approximately 99% while maintaining permeability to water and performs well for at least 400 h for desalination. Our straightforward approach to achieving this type of two-dimensional channel material for selective ion conduction, efficient ion separation, and water desalination might open a host of possible new uses.

25. Temperamental and Neuropsychological Predictors for Major League Pro-Baseball Success

Background: Securing a professional baseball career is a formidable task, and only a unique few can overcome the obstacles necessary to become a Major League player in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). When achieving a spot in a KBO Major League team, a player’s technical aspect may be influenced by their initial neuropsychological status.Hypothesis: Personality and neurocognitive functions influence long-term pro-baseball league success.Study Design: Cohort observational study.Level of Evidence: Level 3.Methods: From the start of each player’s career, we monitored the status and course of 153 baseball players in the KBO from 2009 to 2019 who agreed to participate in this study. The Korean versions of the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Y (STAI-KY) analyzed traits and estimated state and trait anxiety levels, respectively. The Trail Making Test (TMT) (parts A and B) assessed attention shifting, and, in the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), perseverative errors determined cognitive flexibility. Hierarchical logistic regression models were used to predict player status variables, with TCI and neurocognitive function variables as covariates.Results: High novelty-seeking scores, low state anxiety, and short TMT A results reliably predict KBO Major League participation in a player’s third year. Similarly, low state anxiety scores and high harm avoidance, reward dependence, and self-transcendence scores accurately predict KBO Major League participation in a player’s fifth year. Lastly, short TMT A results, low perseverative error scores, and high novelty-seeking, harm avoidance, reward dependence, and self-transcendence efficiently predict KBO Major League participation in a player’s seventh year.Conclusion: Draft ranking, personality, and neurocognitive function are associated with pro-baseball league achievement. In particular, personality and neuropsychological functions are associated with long-term success.Clinical Relevance: Clinically, sound personality and neuropsychological functions determine KBO Major League success.

- Abstract
High power conversion efficiency (PCE) and mechanical robustness are dual requisites for wearable applications of organic solar cells (OSCs). Here, we simultaneously achieve high electronic and mechanical performances in OSCs using conjugated polymer donors (PDs) consisting of electroactive rigid and soft blocks. Specifically, we integrate rigid and soft blocks to synthesize block-copolymerized PDs (D180.8-s-PEHDT0.2) having an appropriate molecular weight of D18 blocks to reach the effective conjugation length and of PEHDT blocks to achieve high mechanical properties. As a result, the D180.8-s-PEHDT0.2OSCs achieve excellent PCE (19.0%) and stretchability (crack-onset strain [COS] = 17.2%), thus overcoming the trade-off between the photovoltaic and mechanical properties in D18- (PCE = 18.1% and COS = 1.5%) and PEHDT-based OSCs (PCE = 5.0% and COS = 30.7%). Consequently, the D180.8-s-PEHDT0.2-based intrinsically stretchable (IS)-OSCs achieve both a high PCE (14.3%) and excellent stretchability (preserving 80% of the initial PCE at 31% strain).

27. Emergence of lake conditions that exceed natural temperature variability

- Abstract
Lake surface temperatures are projected to increase under climate change, which could trigger shifts in the future distribution of thermally sensitive aquatic species. Of particular concern for lake ecosystems are when temperatures increase outside the range of natural variability, without analogue either today or in the past. However, our knowledge of when such no-analogue conditions will appear remains uncertain. Here, using daily outputs from a large ensemble of SSP3-7.0 Earth system model projections, we show that these conditions will emerge at the surface of many northern lakes under a global warming of 4.0 °C above pre-industrial conditions. No-analogue conditions will occur sooner, under 2.4 °C of warming, at lower latitudes, primarily due to a weaker range of natural variability, which increases the likelihood of the upper natural limit of lake temperature being exceeded. Similar patterns are also projected in subsurface water, with no-analogue conditions occurring first at low latitudes and occurring last, if at all, at higher latitudes. Our study suggests that global warming will induce changes across the water column, particularly at low latitudes, leading to the emergence of unparalleled climates with no modern counterparts, probably affecting their habitability and leading to rearrangements of freshwater habitats this century.

ObjectivesThis study systematically reviewed the literature on the effect of home-based supportive care (HbSC) programmes on the quality of life (QoL) of patients with advanced cancer.MethodsThe research question ‘Do home-based supportive care programmes for patients with advanced cancer improve their QoL?’ was addressed. After registering the plan with PROSPERO (CRD42022341237), literature published from 1 January 1990 to 30 May 2023 was searched on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane database, CINAHL and Web of Science, and reviewed for inclusion based on predefined criteria. This review only included trial studies published in English.ResultsOf 5,276 articles identified, 17 studies were judged suitable for inclusion in this review. The components of HbSC programmes included home visits, patient and caregiver education, home nursing, psychotherapy, exercise, telephone consultation, and multidisciplinary team meetings. Nine studies reported improvements in QoL, including social functioning, emotional functioning, and subjective QoL.ConclusionHbSC programmes appear to enable the improvement of the QoL of patients with advanced cancer. The area of QoL that shows improvement could vary depending on the HbSC components. More studies that address HbSC programmes are needed to select patients at the proper time and provide suitable programmes for patients to benefit most.

29. Therapeutic Singing and Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract Exercises for Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Single Session Intervention

- Abstract
Individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) experience speech and voice-related symptoms that diminish communication and quality of life. Semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) exercises are targeted interventions that, when combined with the positive psychosocial benefits of therapeutic group singing (TGS), may affect outcomes. The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of SOVT exercises, specifically straw phonation combined with TGS, to improve voice quality and mood for individuals with PD. We used a true experimental pretest–posttest between-subjects design (i.e., randomized controlled trial) facilitated by a board-certified music therapist. All participants (N= 27) were randomly assigned to one of three groups (a) straw phonation combined with TGS (SP + TGS, n= 10), (b) TGS (n= 10), and (c) speaking-only control group (n= 7). Participants completed voice recordings for acoustic measures and the Visual Analogue Mood Scale for mood analysis before and after a 30-min intervention. The results demonstrated significant improvement in voice quality evidenced by decreasing Acoustic Voice Quality Index scores following a single session for both SP + TGS and TGS intervention groups when compared to the control. Happiness scores improved in the experimental groups when compared to control. Although not statistically significant, participants in the experimental groups (SP + TGS, TGS) demonstrated better mean mood scores on happiness, anxiety, and angry when compared to control, indicating a positive psychological response to the singing interventions. Overall, this study indicated the effectiveness of SP + TGS and TGS as promising therapeutic interventions for voice quality and mood in individuals with PD.

30. Image-Based Inspection Technique of a Machined Metal Surface for an Unmanned Lapping Process

- Abstract
This paper presents a new machine vision framework for the efficient examination and classification of surface textures on medium- and large-sized mold products, such as used for automobiles, TVs, and refrigerators. Existing techniques, which are based on the hands and eyes of skilled workers, are inconsistent and time-consuming. Although there are many types of precise surface inspection and measurement methods, most are difficult to apply at industrial sites or by finishing robots due to problems such as speed, setup limitations, and robustness. This paper proposes two techniques based on image processing that aims to automate surface inspection during an unmanned lapping process that is mainly employed to eliminate milling tool marks. First, both the shape of the reflected light and the intensity of the captured near-field contrast image right after the reflected specular are used to determine the machined surface state, and the presence of tool marks as the line light source scans counter-clockwise. Second, the photometric stereo technique is used to detect surface scratches through the normal map that recovers the surface. The proposed techniques show localized machined patterns and classify them with high accuracy.

31. A Novel Design Method for High-Efficiency Quasi-2-bit Reconfigurable Metasurface Antennas

- Abstract
This communication proposes a novel design method for a quasi-2-bit reconfigurable metasurface antenna (RMA) to improve aperture efficiency using a simple bias circuit. The quasi-2-bit RMA is designed by combining two types of 1-bit unit cells to achieve four quantized phase states, which results in quantization efficiencies similar to an ideal 2-bit for a specific direction while maintaining a simple 1-bit bias circuit. Furthermore, this RMA can also be designed for multiple beam directions by optimizing the combination of the 1-bit unit cells using the least square method. The quasi-2-bit RMA is then experimentally verified by fabricating a structure optimized for two beam switching angles of ±18° in the E-plane. The aperture efficiencies of the quasi-2-bit RMA are measured to be 25.1% for - 18° and 28.1% for 18°, respectively. Compared to 1-bit RMAs, the measured aperture efficiency of the quasi-2-bit RMA is improved by 61.49% for the - 18° beam and by 114.2% for the 18° beam, respectively.

37. Daily Affective Dynamics in Major Depressive Disorder: The Role of Daily Stressors and Positive Events

- Abstract
This study examined daily affective dynamic indices among individuals with a major depressive disorder (MDD) diagnosis in the past one year at the time of the interview, focusing on affective variability and change in affect in response to daily events (affective reactivity). Data were from the main survey and daily diary project of the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study. Participants (N= 1,970; nMDD= 202; nnon-MDD= 1,768) completed structured clinical interviews on mental health and telephone interviews about their daily experiences spanning eight consecutive days. Multilevel models revealed that the MDD group experienced greater positive (PA) and negative affect (NA) variability than the non-MDD group. On days that at least one stressful event was reported, the MDD group experienced a greater decrease in PA and a greater increase in NA. On days that at least one positive event was reported, the MDD group experienced a greater increase in PA and a greater decrease in NA. Changes in affect to daily events, particularly the mood brightening effect, may be indicators of depression and potential targets for intervention. Limitations of the study include a community sample, reliance on self-reported measures of daily stressors and positive events, inclusion of remitted and current MDD participants, and the DSM-III-R based criteria for MDD diagnosis.

Understanding the interplay between the surface structure and the passivation materials and their effects associated with surface structure modification is of fundamental importance; however, it remains an unsolved problem in the perovskite passivation field. Here, we report a surface passivation principle for efficient perovskite solar cells via a facet-dependent passivation phenomenon. The passivation process selectively occurs on facets, which is observed with various post-treatment materials with different functionality, and the atomic arrangements of the facets determine the alignments of the passivation layers. The profound understanding of facet-dependent passivation leads to the finding of 2-amidinopyridine hydroiodide as the material for a uniform and effective passivation on both (100) and (111) facets. Consequently, we achieved perovskite solar cells with an efficiency of 25.10% and enhanced stability. The concept of facet-dependent passivation can provide an important clue on unidentified passivation principles for perovskite materials and a novel means to enhance the performance and stability of perovskite-based devices.

- Abstract
We present an electrochemical method to functionalize single-crystal graphene grown on copper foils with a (111) surface orientation by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Graphene on Cu(111) is functionalized with 4-iodoaniline by applying a constant negative potential, and the degree of functionalization depends on the applied potential and reaction time. Our approach stands out from previous methods due to its transfer-free method, which enables more precise and efficient functionalization of single-crystal graphene. We report the suggested effects of the Cu substrate facet by comparing the reactivity of graphene on Cu(111) and Cu(115). The electrochemical reaction rate changes dramatically at the potential threshold for each facet. Kelvin probe force microscopy was used to measure the work function, and the difference in onset potentials of the electrochemical reaction on these two different facets are explained in terms of the difference in work function values. Density functional theory and Monte Carlo calculations were used to calculate the work function of graphene and the thermodynamic stability of the aniline functionalized graphene on these two facets. This study provides a deeper understanding of the electrochemical behavior of graphene (including single-crystal graphene) on Cu(111) and Cu(115). It also serves as a basis for further study of a broad range of reagents and thus functional groups and of the role of metal substrate beneath graphene.

Germline commitment following primordial germ cell (PGC) specification during early human development establishes an epigenetic programme and competence for gametogenesis. Here we follow the progression of nascent PGC-like cells derived from human embryonic stem cells in vitro. We show that switching from BMP signalling for PGC specification to Activin A and retinoic acid resulted in DMRT1 and CDH5 expression, the indicators of migratory PGCs in vivo. Moreover, the induction of DMRT1 and SOX17 in PGC-like cells promoted epigenetic resetting with striking global enrichment of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine and locus-specific loss of 5-methylcytosine at DMRT1 binding sites and the expression of DAZL representing DNA methylation-sensitive genes, a hallmark of the germline commitment programme. We provide insight into the unique role of DMRT1 in germline development for advances in human germ cell biology and in vitro gametogenesis.

The cause of Crohn's disease (CD) is unknown, but the current hypothesis is that microbial or environmental factors induce gut inflammation in genetically susceptible individuals, leading to chronic intestinal inflammation. Case-control studies of patients with CD have cataloged alterations in the gut microbiome composition; however, these studies fail to distinguish whether the altered gut microbiome composition is associated with initiation of CD or is the result of inflammation or drug treatment. In this prospective cohort study, 3483 healthy first-degree relatives (FDRs) of patients with CD were recruited to identify the gut microbiome composition that precedes the onset of CD and to what extent this composition predicts the risk of developing CD. We applied a machine learning approach to the analysis of the gut microbiome composition (based on 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing) to define a microbial signature that associates with future development of CD. The performance of the model was assessed in an independent validation cohort. In the validation cohort, the microbiome risk score (MRS) model yielded a hazard ratio of 2.24 (95% confidence interval, 1.03-4.84; P =.04), using the median of the MRS from the discovery cohort as the threshold. The MRS demonstrated a temporal validity by capturing individuals that developed CD up to 5 years before disease onset (area under the curve > 0.65). The 5 most important taxa contributing to the MRS included Ruminococcus torques , Blautia , Colidextribacter , an uncultured genus-level group from Oscillospiraceae , and Roseburia. This study is the first to demonstrate that gut microbiome composition is associated with future onset of CD and suggests that gut microbiome is a contributor in the pathogenesis of CD. Gut microbiome composition, function, and stool metabolites can identify those more likely to develop Crohn's disease in a cohort of healthy first-degree relatives of patients with Crohn's disease. 42. Effects of ethanol washing and storage duration on primary culture of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth.

Since the oral environment harbors various microorganisms, the removal of contaminants during the primary culture process of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHEDs) is very important. We investigated optimal methods for primary culture of SHEDs with minimal contamination rates. Three different storage conditions for deciduous teeth were utilized:1) storing teeth in Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) with 3% penicillin and streptomycin (P/S), 2) storing teeth in HBSS with 3% antibiotics and antimycotics (A-A), and 3) storing teeth in HBSS with A-A, and additional washing with 70% ethanol just before primary culture of dental pulp. In addition, the storage time from the extraction of teeth to the primary culture was measured. The contamination rates were about 70% for HBSS with P/S, 40% for HBSS with A-A, and less than 10% for HBSS with A-A and additional washing with 70% ethanol. When the primary culture was conducted within 12 h after teeth extraction, the contamination rate was the lowest in all conditions. Furthermore, when the teeth were delivered in HBSS with A-A and an additional 70% ethanol washing was performed, the contamination rate was 0% until 48 h after teeth extraction. Ethanol washing had little effect on the cellular characteristics and stemness of SHEDs, including their morphology, growth rate, expression of surface markers, and differentiation potential. We suggested that both delivering teeth in HBSS with A-A and additional 70% ethanol washing are critical considerations for the successful culture of SHEDs without contamination. Background and Objectives: Pigmented rice is a good source of polyphenols that can interact with proteins to affect starch rheological properties. Parboiling influences rice functional properties via starch gelatinization and protein denaturation, but its effects on polyphenol/protein/starch interactions are unknown. This study investigated the rheological properties of pigmented (HB‐1) and nonpigmented (Neches) waxy rice in neutral (water) and acidic (0.1 N HCl) environments as affected by soaking at room temperature or 5°C below onset gelatinization temperature (To) and steaming. 46. Association between mental health and self-care behavior among older adults with diabetes according to Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System 2019.

- Abstract
To assess the association of mental health burden with diabetes-related self-care behaviors and healthcare utilization among older adults. This cross-sectional 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) study included ≥ 65 years old adults with self-reported diabetes. Three groups were used based on the number of days in the past month affected by mental health: 0 days (no burden), 1–13 days (occasional burden), and 14–30 days (frequent burden). Primary outcome was performing ≥ 3 of 5 diabetes-related self-care behaviors. Secondary outcome was performing ≥ 3 of 5 healthcare utilization behaviors. Multivariable logistic regression was used in Stata/SE 15.1. Of 14,217 included individuals, 10.2 % reported frequent mental health burden. Compared to 'no burden', 'occasional' and 'frequent burden' groups included more female, obese, not married persons with younger age of diabetes diagnosis, and reported more comorbidities, insulin use, cost-related barriers to see doctors, and diabetes-related eye issues (p < 0.05). 'Occasional/frequent burden' groups reported less self-care and healthcare utilization behaviors, except 30 % higher healthcare utilization was observed in the 'occasional burden' group compared to no burden (aOR 1.30, 95 %CI 1.08–1.58, p = 0.006). Overall, mental health burden was associated with reduced participation in diabetes-related self-care and healthcare utilization behaviors in a stepwise manner, except occasional burden was associated with higher healthcare utilization. • Optimal diabetes management includes several self-care behaviors. • One in four people with diabetes reported occasional-to-frequent mental health burden. • Mental health burden was associated with less self-care behavior participations. • Mental health screening could target interventions to improve self-care behaviors. Community cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education is important for laypersons. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with social distancing, conventional face-to-face CPR training was unavailable. We developed a distance learning CPR training course (HEROS-Remote) using a smartphone application that monitors real-time chest compression quality and a home delivery collection system for mannikins. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the HEROS-Remote course by comparing chest compression quality with that of conventional CPR training. We applied layperson CPR education with HEROS-Remote and conventional education in Seoul during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both groups underwent a 2-min post-training chest compression test, and we tested non-inferiority. Chest compression depth, rate, complete recoil, and composite chest compression score was measured. Trainees completed a satisfaction survey on CPR education and delivery. The primary outcome was the mean chest compression depth. A total of 180 trainees were enrolled, with 90 assigned to each training group. Chest compression depth of HEROS-Remote training showed non-inferiority to that of conventional training (67.4 vs. 67.8, p = 0.78), as well as composite chest compression score (92.7 vs. 95.5, p = 0.16). The proportions of adequate chest compression depth, chest compression rate, and chest compressions with complete chest recoil were similar in both training sessions. In the HEROS-Remote training, 90% of the trainees were satisfied with CPR training, and 96% were satisfied with the delivery and found it convenient. HEROS-Remote training was non-inferior to conventional CPR training in terms of chest compression quality. Distance learning CPR training using a smartphone application and mannikin delivery had high user satisfaction and was logistically feasible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Better biomarkers for prediction of ulcerative colitis (UC) development and prognostication are needed. Anti-integrin αvβ6 (anti-αvβ6) autoantibodies have been described in patients with UC. We tested for the presence of anti-αvβ6 antibodies in the preclinical phase of UC and studied their association with disease-related outcomes after diagnosis. Anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies were measured in 4 longitudinal serum samples collected from 82 subjects who later developed UC and 82 matched controls from a Department of Defense preclinical cohort (PREDICTS [Proteomic Evaluation and Discovery in an IBD Cohort of Tri-service Subjects]). In a distinct, external validation cohort (Crohn's and Colitis Canada Genetic Environmental Microbial project cohort), we tested 12 pre-UC subjects and 49 matched controls. Furthermore, anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies were measured in 2 incident UC cohorts (COMPASS [Comprehensive Care for the Recently Diagnosed IBD Patients], n = 55 and OSCCAR [Ocean State Crohn's and Colitis Area Registry], n = 104) and associations between anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies and UC-related outcomes were defined using Cox proportional hazards model. Anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies were significantly higher among individuals who developed UC compared with controls up to 10 years before diagnosis in PREDICTS. The anti-αvβ6 autoantibody seropositivity was 12.2% 10 years before diagnosis and increased to 52.4% at the time of diagnosis in subjects who developed UC compared with 2.7% in controls across the 4 time points. Anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies predicted UC development with an area under the curve of at least 0.8 up to 10 years before diagnosis. The presence of anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies in preclinical UC samples was validated in the GEM cohort. Finally, high anti-αvβ6 autoantibodies was associated with a composite of adverse UC outcomes, including hospitalization, disease extension, colectomy, systemic steroid use, and/or escalation to biologic therapy in recently diagnosed UC. 50. Sarcopenia measured with paraspinous muscle using computed tomography for predicting prognosis in elderly pneumonia patients

- Abstract
Background: In the elderly, diagnostic findings of pneumonia are often atypical. Computed tomography was recommended for the diagnosis of pneumonia in elderly patients. Recently, the usage of computed tomography as a screening tool for pneumonia in emergency departments has increased. Sarcopenia is defined as the loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength with aging. In this study, the association between sarcopenia and prognosis measured through computed tomography was evaluated compared to CURB-65.Methods: This study was conducted on patients diagnosed with pneumonia through computed tomography from 1 March 2018 to 31 March 2020. The paraspinous muscle size and attenuation were measured at a level located at the T12 pedicle level on axial computed tomography images. Paraspinous muscle size was presented as paraspinous muscle index. Differences in the prognostic performance among the paraspinous muscle size and attenuation, and CURB-65 were evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve.Results: A total of 509 patients were included and 132 patients (25.9%) were admitted to the ICU, and 58 patients (11.4%) died in hospital. Paraspinous muscle index was the significant factor for predicting in-hospital mortality and ICU admission. The area under the receiver operating characteristic value of paraspinous muscle index for prediction of mortality was 0.738 and CURB-65 was 0.707. The area under the receiver operating characteristic of paraspinous muscle index and CURB-65 for predicting ICU admission were 0.766 and 0.704, respectively.Conclusion: As a method of measuring sarcopenia, paraspinous muscle index was superior to CURB-65 in elderly pneumonia patients. The use of computed tomography in predicting prognosis for elderly pneumonia patients will ease the economic burden.
