Purpose: This study aims to investigate the influence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on corporate sustainable performance (CSP) of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by looking into the significance of mediating factors, namely, brand image (BI) and brand loyalty (BL), within the context of an emerging economy. Design/methodology/approach: The authors conduct an extensive literature study on the subjects of CSR, BI and BL to assess their influence on the sustainable performance of SMEs in an emerging market. The study adopts a quantitative methodology. A total of 438 answers were obtained from a sample size of 513. The data of the SMEs in Vietnam was analyzed using the smart partial least squares structural equation modeling software, specifically version 3.3.2. Findings: The results of the authors demonstrate notable and favorable correlations between CSR and CSP, CSR and BI and CSR and BL. Importantly, the findings contribute to existing knowledge by looking into the mediating influence of BI and BL in the relationship between CSR and CSP. Originality/value: According to the authors’ understanding, a number of research have investigated the correlation between CSR and CSP within the realm of SMEs. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of scholarly research examining the mediating function of BI and BL in this association. The study’s findings have important implications for entrepreneurs and senior management in effectively guiding their enterprises and improving their business strategies with an emphasis on sustainability in emerging markets. The outcome of this study has the potential to significantly contribute to SMEs in Vietnam as well as other emerging countries.

We propose, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, a novel non-line-of-sight 2×N indoor optical camera communication system, where N is the number of pixels in the camera with a unique packet structure and a detection methodology for extracting the data from the recorded video streams. A comprehensive theoretical model for the proposed system is presented. The proposed system is experimentally investigated, and the measured results show that higher International Standards Organization (ISO) levels and exposure times lead to a reduced transmit power level by 3 dB for every doubling of the exposure time and ISO at a bit error rate of 10^−3. It is also shown that when the overlapping area of two interfering transmitters is larger than approximately 30% of the footprints, the data cannot be recovered.

Physical layer network coding (PNC) improves the throughput in wireless networks by enabling two nodes to exchange information using a minimum number of time slots. The PNC technique is proposed for two-way relay channel free space optical (TWR-FSO) communications with the aim of maximizing the utilization of network resources. The multipair TWR-FSO is considered in this paper, where a single antenna on each pair seeks to communicate via a common receiver aperture at the relay. Therefore, chip interleaving is adopted as a technique to separate the different transmitted signals at the relay node to perform PNC mapping. Accordingly, this scheme relies on the iterative multiuser technique for detection of users at the receiver. The bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed system is examined under the combined influences of atmospheric loss, turbulence-induced channel fading, and pointing errors (PEs). By adopting the joint PNC mapping with interleaving and multiuser detection techniques, the BER results show that the proposed scheme can achieve a significant performance improvement against the degrading effects of turbulences and PEs. It is also demonstrated that a larger number of simultaneous users can be supported with this new scheme in establishing a communication link between multiple pairs of nodes in two time slots, thereby improving the channel capacity.

This study introduces a routing model which has the ability to detect the mobile ad-hocnetwork (MANET) mobility states and self-adapt routing metrics accordingly. In this model, nodes rely on theirs mobility indicator to detect whether the network is relatively static or mobile and hence switch the routing metric to either expected transmission count (ETX) or mobility factor (MF), respectively. The proposed model takes advantages of both ETX and MF metrics thus enhancing the overall routing performance for MANET in different mobility states. Packet delivery ratio increases 10% in both static and mobile conditions whereas the number of drop packets reduces half compared with the original optimised link state routing protocol.

In this paper we describe an angle diversity optical wireless system that operates at 280Mbits/s and provides bidirectional data transmission over a wide coverage area. The system uses commercially available components and operates at a wavelength of 860nm. Three terminals, each using seven transmitter and receiver channels were implemented, and the system was successfully tested in a wide range of different conditions. Implementation challenges, design and performance are also discussed, together with future directions for this work.
