- Abstract
The aim of the investigations was to assess to what extent the requirements of an adult person for selected trace elements (iron, zinc and copper) derived from daily food diets (DFD) as well as from diet supplementation (with vitamin-mineral pharmaceutical preparations) are fulfilled. The expediency of pharmacological supplementation as well as its possible health consequences were considered. The level of mineral intake was evaluated on the basis of questionnaire surveys. It was demonstrated that the DFDs of the examined adults failed to supply sufficient quantities of copper for both males and females; in addition, women's diets were sufficient in zinc and iron. The supplementation with pharmaceutical preparations allowed the subjects to meet the requirements for copper but resulted in exceeding the recommended allowances for iron and zinc.
