A series of [n]paracyclophanediols (n = 8−12) was synthesized by samarium-catalyzed pinacol coupling for their ansa-bridge formation. Enantiomerically pure [n]paracyclophane esters were derived from the diols in a several steps via chiral resolution (for n = 10) or via crystallization-induced asymmetric transformation (for n = 11) by using amino alcohol auxiliaries and their selective cleavages.

The 3,8‐methano‐(11)annulenone (I) reacts with the iminophosphoranes (II) to give the fused pyrroles (III) and (IV).

A short synthesis is given for the preparation of the (2,4)pyridinophanes (III).

The arylcyclohepta(d)isoxazolones (I) are reduced and then halogenated to yield the chlorodihydro derivatives (III) which undergo base‐induced intramolecular cyclization, forming the arylisoxazolonorcaradienes (IV).

The cycloaddition reaction of the nitrile oxides (I) with cycloheptatrienone iron tricarbonyl (II) yields the fused isoxazoles (IV) after decomplexation and dehydrogenation.

In an attempt to synthesize the 8‐azabicyclo(5.3.1)undeca‐2,4,7,9‐tetraene skeleton, the dehydrogenation of which is expected to give the desired compound (I), the reactions of the phosphoranes (III) and (VI) with 2,4,6‐cyclooctatrienone (II) are investigated.

The 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition of PhN3to the 6‐methylenetricyclooctenone (I) proceeds regioselectively at the endocyclic double bond to yield the exo‐ (II) and the endo‐adduct (III) in almost equal amounts.
