Korean Society of Thoracic Radiology (KSTR) launched a web-based learning program called the “KSTR Weekly Chest Cases” in November 1997 (http://kstr.radiology.or.kr/weekly/). This program aimed to provide easily accessible, high-quality thoracic radiology education through a case-based approach to a worldwide audience. The website contains over 1000 cases with high-quality images, including cases from KSTR imaging conferences. Currently, the “KSTR Weekly Chest Cases” website has over 2700 members from 90 countries. KSTR members and website editors continue to facilitate communication and provide educationally relevant thoracic imaging worldwide through the “KSTR Weekly Chest Cases,” now also available as an app.

To evaluate multidetector row computed tomographic indexes to quantify bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation by correlation with pulmonary function tests (PFT).

To determine the radiologic features of pulmonary tuberculosis in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients.

This study was performed to evaluate the static and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast enhancement pattern of progressive massive fibrosis (PMF) in coal workers' pneumoconiosis. Eighteen lesions in 12 patients were evaluated using a 1.5-T MR unit. T1-weighted FLASH images were obtained before and 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15 minutes after injection of gadolinium diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (Gd-DTPA; 0.1 mmol/kg). Imaging findings, the contrast enhancing pattern, enhancement time curve, and the contrast uptake equivalent (CE; mmol/L) were evaluated. On T1-weighted images, 14 lesions showed high signal intensity, and four showed low signal intensity. On T2-weighted images, all lesions were of low signal intensity and were indistinguishable from aerated lung parenchyma. After contrast infusion, all lesions except two enhanced markedly. The time enhancement curve showed a marked, gradual increase in signal intensity up to 3 minutes, a subtle increase in signal intensity up to 7.5 minutes, and then a plateau until 15 minutes after Gd-DTPA injection. Characteristic MR findings of PMF in coal workers' pneumoconiosis include T1 high signal intensity, T2 low signal intensity, and marked postinfusion enhancement. The time enhancement curve shows a marked, gradual increase of signal intensity up to 3 minutes and plateau up to 15 minutes.

Computed tomographic (CT) findings are described in three diabetic patients with central airways mucormycosis. The CT findings of the tracheobronchial mucormycosis include enhancing areas of mural thickening (n = 3), luminal narrowing (n = 3), intramural air (n = 3), low-attenuation nonenhancing bronchial wall thickening (n = 2), and bronchonodal fistula formation (n = 1). These CT features in a diabetic patient should raise a high index of suspicion for tracheobronchial mucor-mycosis, particularly when typical radiographic features of pulmonary tuberculosis are absent.

We report a rare case of the absence of the right superior vena cava and a persistent left superior vena cava in a 46-year-old man. This congenital venous anomaly was incidentally found on low-dose chest computed tomography and was clearly demonstrated by 3-dimensional volume-rendering image of multidetector computed tomography. Prior to computed tomography scanning, the scan range, optimal contrast enhancement, and reconstruction methods should be carefully planned to obtain the best diagnostic image of the venous anomalies using multidetector computed tomography.

Aims We investigated the association between diabetes duration and the extent and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) as well as long-term clinical outcomes using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in asymptomatic type 2 diabetic patients. Methods and results We analysed 933 asymptomatic type 2 diabetic patients without known CAD who underwent CCTA. Patients were divided into three groups according to the duration of diabetes: <5 years, 5–10 years, and ≥10 years. Stenosis by CCTA was scored as none (0%), non-obstructive (1–49%), or obstructive (≥50%) for each coronary artery segment. For these patients, we compared the prevalence, extent, and severity of CAD, including coronary artery calcium score (CACS), atheroma burden obstructive score (ABOS), segment involvement score (SIS), and segment stenosis score (SSS). Major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE), including all-cause mortality, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and stroke, within a follow-up period were also compared. Patients with longer duration of diabetes possessed higher rates of obstructive CAD (P < 0.001). Patients with longer duration of diabetes also manifested greater degree of CACS, ABOS, SIS, and SSS (P < 0.001 for all) with associated higher rate of MACCE (P = 0.025). Presence of obstructive CAD as assessed by CCTA was an independent predictor of MACCE after adjusting for confounding risk factors (hazard ratio: 1.979, confidence interval: 1.178–3.327, P = 0.010). Conclusion In asymptomatic diabetic patients, longer diabetes duration is associated with a higher prevalence, extent, and severity of CAD as well as risk of MACCE. Moreover, greater CAD burden increases the risk of MACCE independent of co-existing CAD risk factors.
