Purpose: The purpose of this article is to explore employee age as a moderating factor in the relationship between leader contingent reward behavior (CRB) and work engagement. In doing so, the authors seek to provide a more nuanced understanding of the mediating role of work engagement in the negative effect of leader CRB on turnover intention. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used online surveys among a sample of employees of a retail company in Chile to capture individual perceptions about supervisor CRB, work engagement and turnover intention. To test the authors’ hypotheses, they modeled a first-stage moderated mediation effect using Hayes’ Process macro. Findings: The authors’ results confirm the hypothesis that the negative effect of leader CRB on employee turnover intention is partially mediated by employee work engagement. Interestingly, age was a significant moderator of the mediation effect only for individuals working at headquarters, but not for employees working in stores. Originality/value: This study expands current knowledge about how the leadership–engagement relationship can predict organizational outcomes, including age as a boundary condition. Following the job demands-resources theory, the authors also prove that conceptualizing leader CRB as a job resource can benefit the integration of leadership and work engagement research. The authors’ findings may help organizational researchers and practitioners acknowledge contextual differences in understanding the combined effects of leadership styles and work engagement. Propósito: El propósito de este artículo es explorar la edad del empleado como un factor moderador en la relación entre el comportamiento de recompensa contingente del líder, engagement laboral, e intención de renuncia. Diseño/metodología/enfoque: Usamos encuestas en línea, en una muestra de empleados de una empresa de retail en Chile, para capturar las percepciones individuales sobre los comportamientos de recompensa contingente de los supervisores, el engagement laboral, y la intención de renuncia. Para probar nuestras hipótesis modelamos un efecto de mediación moderada de primera-etapa utilizando el macro Process de Hayes. Resultados: Los resultados confirman la hipótesis de que las recompensas contingentes del líder están negativamente relacionadas con la intención de renuncia. Este efecto está parcialmente mediado por el nivel de engagement laboral del empleado. Curiosamente, la edad fue un moderador significativo del efecto de mediación sólo para quienes trabajaban en la oficina central, pero no para quienes trabajan en las tiendas. Originalidad/valor: Nuestro estudio amplía el conocimiento actual sobre cómo la relación liderazgo-compromiso puede predecir resultados organizacionales, incluyendo la edad como condición de borde. Basados en la teoría de las demandas y recursos del trabajo (job demands-resources theory), mostramos que, al conceptualizar el comportamiento de recompensa contingente del líder como un recurso laboral, se puede beneficiar la investigación sobre la integración del liderazgo y el engagement laboral. Nuestros hallazgos pueden beneficiar a investigadores y profesionales de las organizaciones al reconocer las diferencias contextuales en la comprensión del efecto combinado de los estilos de liderazgo y el engagement laboral.

We identify the impact of short-term interest rates on credit risk-taking in the short and long run by analyzing a comprehensive credit register from Spain, a country where for the last twenty years monetary policy was mostly decided abroad. Duration analyses show that lower overnight rates prior to loan origination lead banks to lend more to borrowers with a worse credit history and to grant more loans with a higher per-period probability of default. Lower overnight rates during the life of the loan reduce this probability. Bank, borrower and market characteristics determine the impact of overnight rates on credit risk-taking.

In this paper, we propose a method and economical-financial model based on actual regulation to evaluate the use of electrical energy storage in a power network for different business cases and scenarios. The scenarios are real economy models that involve the tariff formulae for the remuneration of the distribution business and laws applied to renewable energies in Colombia. The proposed method is applied by performing different variations of demand and costs, as well as sensitivities. Also included here, are the results of computational application with real data and cost approximation models applied in this research. The proposed method exposes potential barriers, challenges, and the feasibility of the incorporation of energy storage. Based on the method, a series of cases were developed to evaluate the benefit/cost ratio that energy storage systems can provide based on the type of service supplied. The models are focused on: Battery storage with solar photovoltaic self-generation, Storage in primary frequency regulation, and Storage in secondary frequency regulation (AGC).

Background:The aim of the present work was to develop a chromatographic technique coupled with mass spectrometry for the measurement of lamotrigine in plasma. Lamotrigine and guanabenz (internal standard) were measured by selected reaction monitoring. The method was validated and applied in a bioequivalence trial on 26 female volunteers. Lamotrigine chewable tablets (100 mg) were administered and monitored for up to 96 h. Results:The method was linear between 0.05 and 5.0 µg/ml, with acceptable stability, accuracy and precision. Mean maximum plasma concentration was 1.37 µg/ml and was reached at 1.6 h postdose. Elimination half-life was 32.7 h. Conclusion:Lamotrigine tablets were bioequivalent. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry represents a powerful tool in terms of sensitivity, specificity and high-throughput analysis.

In this paper, the CSMA/CD protocol with deterministic collision resolution implemented in some Intel devices is analyzed. An approximate throughput-delay analysis is performed. The results of the analysis are validated by simulation. Finally, we briefly present additional results obtained from the simulation.

ABSTRACTChimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T) targeting CD19 have achieved significant success in patients with B cell malignancies. To date, implementation of CAR-T in other indications remains challenging due to the lack of truly tumor-specific antigens as well as control of CAR-T activity in patients. CD123 is highly expressed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) blasts including leukemia-initiating cells making it an attractive immunotherapeutic target. However, CD123 expression in normal hematopoietic progenitor cells and endothelia bears the risk of severe toxicities and may limit CAR-T applications lacking fine-tuned control mechanisms. Therefore, we recently developed a rapidly switchable universal CAR-T platform (UniCAR), in which CAR-T activity depends on the presence of a soluble adapter called targeting module (TM), and confirmed clinical proof-of-concept for targeting CD123 in AML with improved safety. As costimulation via 4–1BB ligand (4–1BBL) can enhance CAR-T expansion, persistence, and effector functions, a novel CD123-specific TM variant (TM123-4-1BBL) comprising trimeric single-chain 4–1BBL was developed for transient costimulation of UniCAR-T cells (UniCAR-T) at the leukemic site in trans. TM123-4-1BBL-directed UniCAR-T efficiently eradicated CD123-positive AML cells in vitroand in a CDX in vivomodel. Moreover, additional costimulation via TM123-4-1BBL enabled enhanced expansion and persistence with a modulated UniCAR-T phenotype. In addition, the increased hydrodynamic volume of TM123-4-1BBL prolonged terminal plasma half-life and ensured a high total drug exposure in vivo. In conclusion, expanding the soluble adapter optionality for CD123-directed UniCAR-T maintains the platforms high anti-leukemic efficacy and immediate control mechanism for a flexible, safe, and individualized CAR-T therapy of AML patients.
