This study describes the development and evaluation of a brief measure for assessing distress in patients with bipolar disorder. We also identify associations with related constructs such as functioning, stigma, and personal beliefs regarding mental illness.

There is a scarcity of studies taking a psychoanalytic perspective on college students’ psychological adjustment. Our aim was to assess the degree of psychological adjustment of one hundred and thirty seven first-year college students using assessment tools from different psychological orientations: Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Goldberg Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28). In addition, we used ISMOS (Ortiz & Sedano, 2012) a recently constructed questionnaire which evaluates the psychological adjustment according to Cencillo's psychoanalytic principles. Significant and medium-high associations were obtained between measures. A small but significant group of first year students presented higher scores denoting psychological distress.

Diversity in education is reflected in different learning rates, abilities, interests, expectations, needs, and so on and demands appropriate educative attention. This reality justifies the need for teachers training to meet the challenges of achieving success for all the students.

The field of cyberbullying is relatively new and there is no universal consensus on its definition, measurement and intervention. Authors agree that bullying has entered into the digital domain and professionals require the skills to help identify and prevent these behaviours. Ninety two students were surveyed to determine their experience with different types of bullying behaviors (face-to-face, cyberbullying or both), as bully, victim or witness. Our objective was to explore the association between those types of bullying and anxiety. The results suggest a significant association between face-to-face bullying and anxiety. Similarly, there was significant association between experiencing both types of bullying and anxiety. Further studies are required with larger and more diverse samples in order to verify current fidings and to test for additional associations.

Eating disorders adversely affect physical health, eating habits, social and family relationships, mood, work and school performance. We tested for cross-cultural validity of the Body Image Screening Questionnaire (BISQ), a screening measure validated in Spain, which assesses potential eating disorders related to anorexia, perception of obesity, orthorexia and vigorexia, in a Romanian sample from both clinical and general populations. The measure showed adequate internal consistency and allowed distinguishing clinical vs. general subsamples. Significant differences based on clinical characteristics were obtained. The measure can be utilized as screening tool of individuals who need further assessment and prioritize primary intervention strategies with at risk population.

Abstract: Objective: The purpose of the current study was to examine the impact of disease and hospitalization on children’s quality of life. Method: Three measures were administered to 105 participants ranging in age from 6 to 15 years, from public hospitals in Castilla y Leon (Spain). Data were collected throughout 9 months. Measures were the Survey on Subjective Perception of Hospitalization and Hospital (CPSH), the quality of life survey KINDL, and the health survey SF-36. Internal consistency coefficients were acceptable for most of scales and subscales. Results indicated that children experience a decrease in their quality of life, mainly in daily living activities and psychological well being; that emotional states impact their quality of life, and that hospitals need to make some changes to better meet the needs of hospitalized children. Conclusions: Interventions, at an organizational and individual level, may help improve the well-being of hospitalized children.

This study shows the results obtained after developing and applying a vocational evaluation and guidance program to a sample of persons with physical and sensory disabilities from a center of vocational rehabilitation. The participants were 84 students: 56 in the experimental group and 28 in the control group. The program, lasting 27 h, included information to enhance self-awareness and knowledge of the labor world, and training in employment-seeking strategies. Pre- and post-test measurements were taken by means of three employability maturity evaluation instruments and a self-image evaluation instrument. Results show significant improvements in professional and personal identity (i.e. abilities, interest and need awareness), together with employment seeking skills. Finally, conclusions and suggestions for further research are presented.
