- Abstract
Perinatal mental health disorders are one of the leading causes of maternal illness and suffering and care and services need to be well coordinated by an interprofessional team who are skilled in working collaboratively. The aim of this paper is to describe the design and evaluation of an innovative interprofessional education initiative to increase midwives and other health professional students' knowledge and skills in caring collaboratively for women with psychosocial issues in the perinatal period, including women experiencing domestic and family violence. The Psychosocial Interprofessional Perinatal Education workshop was designed for midwifery, psychology, social work and medical students. It provided a simulated learning experience with case studies based on real life situations. Students undertook pre and post surveys to measure changes in students' perceptions of interprofessional collaboration and their experiences of participating in the interprofessional simulation-based learning activity. Quantitative survey data were analysed using paired t-tests and a qualitative content analysis was undertaken on the open-ended questions in the survey. Comparison of pre and post surveys found students from all disciplines reported feeling more confident working interprofessionally following the workshop. The following categories were generated from analysis of the open ended survey data: Greater understanding of each others' roles; Recognising benefits of interprofessional collaboration; Building on sense of professional identity; Respecting each other and creating a level playing field; and Filling a pedagogical gap. Through this innovative, simulated interprofessional education workshop students developed skills essential for future collaborative practice to support women and families experiencing psychosocial distress. INDUSTRIAL safety ,HEALTH facilities ,LABOR bureaus ,ACCIDENT prevention ,INDUSTRIAL hygiene ,PREVENTIVE medicine - Abstract
Interventions in work environments, processes, and situations encompass the prevention of diseases and accidents and workers' health promotion. Historically, these actions were originally the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor, being extended to the Ministry of Health, and later to the Ministry of Labor. The aim of this study was to understand and give visibility to the work of the actors working in the different sectors and institutions involved in health and safety at work in the municipality of São Paulo and gain an insight into the barriers to intersectorality and the consequences of the lack of intersectoral collaboration for this area. Work reflection groups were created between 2017 and 2019 with professionals working in the abovementioned ministries and in the Labor Prosecution Office. The data were produced and analyzed drawing on the theoretical bases of the psychodynamics of work. Despite having intrinsically linked objectives, these three bodies in São Paulo continue to encounter difficulties in consolidating intersectorality as envisioned in occupational health and safety policies. Despite sporadic partnerships, merging specific actions, recognizing and mutually respecting each other's expertise, avoiding overlaps, and building joint, cooperative, and collaborative practices remain challenges. There is scarce research studying healthcare professionals' and users' perceptions in relation to creating coherence in intersectoral collaboration between psychiatric centres and community mental healthcare. Drawing on the discourse analysis framework of Fairclough, this study aimed to explore how healthcare professionals and users could perceive coherence in intersectoral collaboration between psychiatric centres and community mental healthcare. But also to explore their perception of how coherence could be maintained through an intersectoral journey, and what discourses manifested themselves within the field of mental healthcare. Data were collected through 11 focus group interviews, five of which with healthcare professionals (n = 20) and six with users (n = 18). Fairclough's three-dimensional model for the studying of discourse was used to analyse the transcribed texts. This study is reported in accordance with the COREQ checklist. Coherence in intersectoral collaboration was interpreted to exist in tension between being predominantly steered by the healthcare professionals while the users had a desire to be more involved in decisions regarding their own intersectoral journey. The users were subjected to a paternalistic steering, expressed by the power of the healthcare professionals to select the right efforts as well as the purpose of the users' journeys. The findings showed that coherence in intersectoral collaboration in general was articulated from an overall discourse of neoliberal governance, with its embedded discourses of rationality and structure, and discourses of linearity, objectivity, paternalism, biomedicine and evidence have a controlling influence on how users should guide themselves based on the discourse of self-care. Background: The role of the community pharmacist is rapidly expanding to encompass the care of veterinary patients in the United States of America This change makes it imperative for pharmacists and veterinarians who practice in community settings to establish mutual agreement on the roles of pharmacists in the care of these patients. Objective: To examine community-based pharmacist and veterinarian viewpoints on interprofessional collaboration and the role of the community pharmacist in veterinary patient care. Methods: Cross-sectional surveys were sent to pharmacists and veterinarians who practice in a community setting in Ohio. Surveys collected demographic information and addressed the following themes: attitudes toward collaboration, perceived roles of the pharmacist, expectations of the pharmacist, and previous collaborative experiences. A chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. Results: In total, 357 pharmacists and 232 veterinarians participated in the study. Both professions agreed that pharmacist-veterinarian collaboration is important in order to optimize veterinary patient care (chi-square (1, N=589)=7.7, p=0.006). Overall, veterinarians were more likely to identify an important role of the community pharmacist to be compounding medications (chi-square (1, N=589)=26.7, p<0.001) compared to counseling pet owners (chi-square (1, N=589)=171.7, p<0.001). Both groups reported similar levels of agreement regarding the importance for pharmacists to have adequate knowledge of veterinary medicine. Conclusions: Our study found that while both pharmacists and veterinarians conveyed a positive attitude regarding interprofessional collaboration, they disagreed on what role the pharmacist should play in the care of veterinary patients. Rectifying the discordant perceptions of these health care professionals may be critical to developing collaborative initiatives and optimizing veterinary patient care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Health is a universal human right, which should be safeguarded by government responsibility and included in all social policies. Only as such it is possible to ensure effective responses to the health needs of an entire population. The Cuban Constitution recognizes the right to health, and the country's single, free, universal public health system and high-level political commitment promote intersectorality as a strategy to address health problems. Intersectorality is reflected in national regulations that encourage participation by all social sectors in health promotion/disease prevention/treatment/rehabilitation policies and programs. The strategy has increased the response capacity of Cuba's health system to face challenges in the national and international socioeconomic context and has helped improve the country's main health indicators. New challenges (sociocultural, economic and environmental), due to their effects on the population's health, well-being and quality of life, now require improved intersectoral coordination in the primary health care framework to sustain achievements made thus far. The first 1000 days of life constitute a short and exceptionally important period when the foundation is established for children's growth, development and lifelong health. Cuba has a comprehensive care system for this population that aims to promote the best start in life so that children can reach their highest development potential. This is carried out through the national public health and education systems and also includes elements of health protection, prevention of harm and disease and social welfare for children. Cuba's infant mortality rate has remained <5 deaths per 1000 live births for 10 consecutive years, and in 2017 reached 4 per 1000, the lowest rate to date. The mortality rate for children aged <5 years in 2017 was 5.5 per 1000 live births, with a survival rate of 99.5%; low birth weight was 5.1% and vaccination coverage >95%. Among children aged 1 year in Cuba's Educate Your Child program in 2014, >90% met age-specific indicators in all four developmental domains (intellectual, motor, socioaffective and language). Cuba has universal coverage for antenatal care and, in 2017, 99.9% of births occurred in health institutions. All working mothers receive paid antenatal leave from 34 weeks of gestation, continued through the child's first year, to facilitate breastfeeding and child care. In 2018, the Cuban government allocated 27% of its national budget to health and social welfare and 21% to education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background and objective: Childhood obesity is a chronic condition with a complex and multifactorial cause, associated with several comorbidities and consequent harm to health, including biopsychosocial harm. Intersectoral actions to prevent childhood obesity correspond to the scope of commitments signed within the scope of government public policies and aim to affect this aspect of public health directly or indirectly. In view of this, the objective of this study was to develop and validate an educational intervention protocol for the project "Intersectoral actions to prevent childhood obesity: a municipal community intervention" carried out in Campinas-SP. Methods: this was a methodological study, developed in six steps: literature review; exploration of reference material; adaptation to the application context; listening workshop with specialists in childhood obesity; pilot test and, finally, content validation with specialists in nutrition education and childhood obesity. Content validation analyzes were performed by calculating the content validity index (CVI) and data from a form with open questions. Results: the protocol development steps resulted in the "Manual for the intersectoral prevention of childhood obesity based on the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian population". Validation with experts showed good acceptability of the proposed protocol, with satisfactory scores of clarity and pertinence criteria demonstrated by the average CVI above 0.8 and comments that praised and improved the material. Conclusions: The methodological stages of development and the contributions of specialists in the evaluation of the material contributed to build a qualified and useful tool for the processes of health education for the prevention of childhood obesity in the intersectoral scope in the city of Campinas-SP. It should also be noted that this proposal has potential and reproducibility nationwide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Children and youth with mental disorders require support from multiple service providers, and therefore intersectoral collaboration is required. Community schools, as accessible hubs, with broad-based partnerships, may provide the conditions that foster much needed intersectoral collaboration for this population of students. In order to examine the degree of collaboration in community schools, a qualitative, multicase study of three community schools in the province of Manitoba, Canada was conducted, and the perspectives of key stakeholders in community schools were obtained. Findings indicate that the leadership of the school principal was essential in creating a culture of collaboration and in fostering intersectoral partnerships, which enhanced service provision. However, senior administrative and policy level support from school divisions, and the provincial government for the provision of intersectoral support in community schools was described as limited. The future of community schools was characterized as untenable given their dependency upon the leadership of the school principal for the provision of intersectoral support, in the absence of policies, procedures, and resources that legitimize an intersectoral leadership role. Future research may involve identifying a community school as a pilot site for the formal integration of support with joint funding and staffing from government departments including, but not limited to, health, mental health, and child welfare under the formally designated leadership of the principal of the community school. Objective. To measure undergraduate pharmacy and medical students' collaborative attitudes regarding Pharmacist-Physician collaboration. Methods. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from September 2016 to February 2017 in Northeast Brazil. Pharmacy and medical students from the first and the last year of courses were invited to complete Portuguese version of Scale of Attitudes Toward Pharmacist-Physician Collaboration (SATP2C). Descriptive and comparative analyses were performed using IBM SPSS (22 version). Differences were considered significant when p<0.05. Results. Three hundred seventy students completed the SATP2C. Overall, the students had positive attitudes towards physicianpharmacist collaboration. There was no significant correlation between age and score (p=0.79). Women showed a more positive collaborative attitude than men (53.1, SD=6.8 vs. 55.1, SD=6.3). Pharmacy students had a higher score than medical students (57.5, SD=4.7, vs. 51.1, SD=6.4). The first-year medical students had a higher score than last-year medical students (52.3, SD=6.0 vs. 49.5, SD=6.6; p<0.007). There was no significant difference in the attitudes between the first and last year pharmacy students (p<0.007). Conclusions. Pharmacy and medical students showed positive attitudes towards physician-pharmacist collaboration. However, pharmacy students presented more collaborative attitudes than medical ones. Additionally, the first-year medical students had more collaborative attitudes than last-year medical students. Studies should be conducted to provide recommendations to improve interprofessional education efforts to further enhance the positive attitudes toward physician-pharmacist collaboration. Collaborative practice and teamwork can contribute to improve universal access and the quality of healthcare. However, the operationalization of interprofessional work constitutes a current challenge. This challenge is increased by conceptual imprecisions in the study of interprofessional work, in which terms like collaboration and teamwork are often used as synonyms. This article aims to present current concepts of interprofessional work, problematizing them in the context of primary care. We conclude that teamwork and collaborative practice in primary care need to be addressed in a contingent manner, according to the characteristics of service users/catchment population as well as to the context and working conditions. We highlight that collaboration involves professionals willing to work together to provide better healthcare, and can occur both as "Team collaboration" and "Intersectoral and community collaboration". Graduates of nonprofit management and public administration programs face a workplace increasingly dominated by complex relationships between government, nonprofit, and for-profit entities. Nonprofit organizations and public policy cannot be understood independently of one another. To assess the role of nonprofits in the policy curriculum, we reviewed 12 public policy textbooks and 143 syllabi from graduate-level public policy courses taught at Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration-accredited programs to assess the extent to which nonprofits are incorporated. Nonprofit organizations deserve full integration into the core curriculum of Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Public Policy (MPP) programs as essential actors in public administration and the policy process. Their ubiquity as policy partners, from problem recognition and advocacy to policy formation, implementation, and evaluation makes understanding nonprofit organizations crucial to the study and practice of public policy and administration. Practitioners and scientists dealing with urban water management call for a transition to adaptive regimes. Transition management theories claim that to induce transitions, new forms of research are necessary which cut across traditional disciplinary, organizational and sectoral boundaries. Are such current calls for collaboration reflected in a fundamental change in scientific practices at the international level? This paper explores whether we witness cross-boundary interactions in professional networks and changes in the knowledge production towards more collaborative patterns in urban water science. To this end, we investigate both the professional interaction network at an international congress and the development of scientific output over the last two decades, using social network and bibliometric techniques. The results suggest that the professional interactions indeed reflect the cross-boundary interactions needed for a transition. However, the emerging patterns in scientific output do not indicate an actual system level shift towards a new mode of knowledge production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The World Health Organization has produced a multimedia, interactive online report entitled Health for the World's Adolescents: A Second Chance in the Second Decade . The report provides an overview of global and regional estimates of adolescent mortality and disability-adjusted life years, disaggregated by age, sex, and cause, and country-level data on health-related behaviors and conditions among adolescents. It outlines the reasons why adolescence is a unique period in the life course requiring special attention and synthesizes current thinking about the determinants that underlie the differences in health status between adolescents. For the first time, this new report pulls together recommendations and guidance from across the World Health Organization relating to interventions directed to a range of priority health problems, including use of alcohol and other psychoactive substances, AIDS, injuries, mental health, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, tobacco use, and violence, focusing on four core functions of the health sector: supportive policies, service provision, strategic information, and working with other sectors. The report concludes with 10 key actions that would strengthen national responses to adolescent health, and outlines the approaches that are needed to overcome the obstacles to accelerating evidence-informed actions to improve the health of adolescents worldwide—with all the benefits that this will have for public health in the present and across the life course, for this generation and the next. - Abstract
Nursing theories are needed to illuminate the complexity of caring for students in school settings within the broad context of connections to families and community. This article describes the application of a community practice nursing model to school nursing. The application, embedded within a nursing situation, demonstrates an environment in which school nursing is practiced from the transcendent values of respect, caring, and wholeness. - Abstract
Clinical training for new graduate nurses has a positive impact on their clinical competence; however, there is limited evidence on the impact of this training at the organizational level and on the processes that mediate these impacts. To identify the individual and organizational impacts of a clinical training system and the mechanism that produces them by exploring nurses' perceptions of the changes in health facilities after the introduction of a standardized clinical training system in Vietnam. Qualitative research using an ethnographic approach; photovoice was used to obtain insights into nurses' perceptions. Health facilities of four provinces and one city in Vietnam participated in the Project for Strengthening of the Clinical Training System for New Graduate Nurses. New graduate nurses, preceptors, and managers who engaged in the clinical training program. Qualitative data, including photographs, were collected through photovoice sessions and inductively analyzed using thematic analysis. Sixteen photovoice sessions were conducted with 94 nurses from 22 hospitals. Three themes emerged: "acquiring competency" as an individual change, "fostering mutual learning culture" as an organizational change, and "improved quality of care and nurse empowerment" as the impact. The clinical training system was found to enhance diverse competencies of new graduate nurses, preceptors, and nurse managers, while facilitating collaboration among different professions, departments, and organizations and cultivating a better learning environment. Organizational changes were initiated with the hospital director's support. These changes were interactively related and produced the impact. The novel clinical training system for new graduate nurses could strengthen nurses' competencies and facilitate organizational changes to actualize a positive impact on nursing care and nurses' status. These findings could facilitate the design of an effective training program to stimulate organizational learning to produce better health outcome. • A novel clinical training system enhances the competencies of new graduate nurses. • Training system indirectly enhanced the competencies of preceptors and nurse managers. • Training system promoted interprofessional and interorganizational cooperation. • Organizational learning could be achieved after strategically planned training. • Photovoice is an approach to enable nurses to change their view of their status.
