3. Mechanism of adjusting bypass ratio by front variable area bypass injector for a variable cycle engine

- Abstract
The Front Variable Area Bypass Injector (FVABI) is a key to bypass ratio adjustment for a Variable Cycle Engine (VCE). In order to study the role of the FVABI with the Core Driven Fan Stage (CDFS) duct, firstly, the engine bypass with the CDFS duct model and the equivalent engine bypass without the CDFS duct model are designed using the concept of a jet boundary line. By comparing the difference between airflow driving forces in the two engine bypass models, the quantitative effects of the injection from the CDFS duct on the mass flow rate of the engine bypass airflow are obtained under different combinations of pressure difference and area ratios. Then, the CDFS duct injection characteristic map is obtained through the typical experiment of the FVABI. Based on this map, the performance model of the FVABI is developed. Finally, the turbofan engine model with the Variable Inlet Guide Vane (VIGV), the First Variable Cycle Engine model (VCE1) with the CDFS duct and without the VIGV, and the Second Variable Cycle Engine model (VCE2) with the CDFS duct and VIGV are built. The gain on the engine bypass ratio adjustment range caused by the injection from the CDFS duct is clarified by comparing the three engine models. - Abstract
The crystallization and growth of perovskite crystals are two crucial factors influencing the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Moreover, iodoplumbate complexes such as PbI2, PbI3–, and PbI42–in perovskite precursor solution dictate both the quality of perovskite crystals and the optoelectrical performance of PSCs. Here, we propose an iodoplumbate-coordination strategy that employs pentafluorophenylsulfonyl chloride (PTFC) as an additive to tailor the crystal quality. This strategy directly affects the thermodynamics and kinetics of perovskite crystal formation by regulating hydrogen bonds or coordination bonds with Pb2+or I–ions. Subsequently, the synergistic effect of the PTFC and FA+complex was beneficial for intermediate-to-perovskite phase transition, improving the crystalline quality and reducing the defect density in the perovskite film to suppress nonradiative recombination loss. Consequently, the treated PSCs achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.61%, demonstrating enhanced long-term stability under both light and thermal stress. - Abstract
Background:: The therapeutic potential of exosomes from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSCs-Exo) for delivering specific circular RNAs (circRNAs) in treating premature ovarian failure (POF) is not well understood. This study aimed to explore the efficacy of HUMSCs-Exo in delivering hsa_circ_0002021 for POF treatment, focusing on its effects on granulosa cell (GC) senescence and ovarian function. Methods:: Bioinformatic analysis was conducted on circRNA profiles using the GSE97193 dataset from GEO, targeting granulosa cells from varied age groups. To simulate granulosa cell senescence, KGN cells were treated with cyclophosphamide (CTX). HUMSCs were transfected with pcDNA 3.1 vectors to overexpress hsa_circ_0002021, and the HUMSCs-Exo secreted were isolated. These exosomes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Western blotting to confirm exosomal markers CD9 and CD63. Co-culture of these exosomes with CTX-treated KGN cells was performed to assess β-galactosidase activity, oxidative stress markers, ROS levels, and apoptosis via flow cytometry. Interaction between hsa_circ_0002021, microRNA-125a-5p (miR-125a-5p), and cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6) was investigated using dual-luciferase assays and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP). A POF mouse model was induced with CTX, treated with HUMSCs-Exo, and analyzed histologically and via immunofluorescence staining. Gene expression was quantified using RT-qPCR and Western blot. Results:: hsa_circ_0002021 was under expressed in both in vivoand in vitroPOF models and was effectively delivered by HUMSCs-Exo to KGN cells, showing a capability to reduce GC senescence. Overexpression of hsa_circ_0002021 in HUMSCs-Exo significantly enhanced these anti-senescence effects. This circRNA acts as a competitive adsorbent of miR-125a-5p, regulating CDK6 expression, which is crucial in modulating cell cycle and apoptosis. Enhanced expression of hsa_circ_0002021 in HUMSCs-Exo ameliorated GC senescence in vitroand improved ovarian function in POF models by modulating oxidative stress and cellular senescence markers. Conclusion:: This study confirms that hsa_circ_0002021, when delivered through HUMSCs-Exo, can significantly mitigate GC senescence and restore ovarian function in POF models. 6. Endwall-pulsed blowing of different excitation models to control flow separation on a highly-loaded compressor cascade

- Abstract
Endwall-pulsed blowing (EPB) is studied for three different excitation waveforms to improve the aerodynamic performance of highly loaded compressors. Some important excitation parameters include the excitation frequency and momentum coefficient, which were analyzed in detail. The results of the EPB are compared with the endwall steady blowing (ESB) case. For EPBs with the three excitation waveforms (Waveforms sine, triangle and trapezoid), excitation frequencies that are equal to an integral multiple of the natural frequency of the vortex shedding are optimal and provide better performances than the ESB with the same time-mean momentum coefficient. Moreover, the EPBs of the three excitation waveforms have significant differences in their aerodynamic performance improvements. 8. Signal Modulation of Organic Photoelectrochemical Transistor by a Z-Scheme Photocathodic Gate: An Innovative Dual Amplification Strategy for Sensitive Aptasensing Application

- Abstract
Pursuing a more efficient signal amplification strategy is highly demanded for improving the performance of the promising cathodic photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors. In this work, we present an extremely effective dual signal amplification strategy by the integration of a Z-scheme nanohybrids-based photocathode with the effective signal modulation of an organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT) device. Specifically, photocathodic gate material of CdTe–BiOBr nanohybrids with a Z-scheme electron-transfer route was designed and synthesized for preliminary improvement of the activity of the photogate; afterward, signal modulation of the OPECT system by the photocathodic gate of CdTe–BiOBr was then accomplished for further signal amplification by 2 orders of magnitude. As a result, the output PEC signal of CdTe–BiOBr was enhanced by 17.5-fold as compared to BiOBr, and the channel current (IDS) of the OPECT device was 117-fold magnified than its gate current (IG) response. Exemplified by tetracycline (TC) as a model target and aptamer as the specific recognition element, a versatile cathodic aptasensing platform was constructed based on the proposed OPECT device. The introduced OPECT aptasensor merits advantages, including a good linear range (1.0 × 10–12to 1.0 × 10–6M), a low limit of detection (4.2 × 10–13M), and superior sensitivity than the traditional PEC methods for TC detection, which represents a universal protocol for developing the innovative photocathodic OPECT sensing platform toward accurate analysis. more...

9. Efficacy and safety of YOXINTINE for depression: A double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled, phase 2 clinical trial.

- Abstract
• Oral YOXINTINE is safe and significantly improves depressive symptoms. • Optimal effective dose of YOXINTINE for depression treatment is 200 mg/day. • Side effect incidence for YOXINTINE is very low, similar to that with placebo. YOXINTINE contains >98 % of 20(S)-protopanaxadial (PPD), a metabolic product of ginsenosides with pre-clinical neuroprotective activity. Animal experiments and previous studies have shown that PPD has good antidepressant effect and safety. To evaluate YOXINTINE in treating depression compared with a placebo in Chinese patients. This was a multicenter, double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled, phase 2 clinical trial. The study included 178 randomized (1:1:1) Chinese patients with depression. Patients were randomly assigned to receive oral YOXINTINE at doses of 200 or 400 mg or a placebo administered twice daily for 8 weeks. The primary outcome was assessed by measuring changes in the Montgomery–Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) total score. All adverse reactions were recorded. All demographic and baseline characteristics were comparable. The changes in MADRS total scores from baseline were −10.43 for the placebo group, −16.24 for the 200 mg YOXINTINE group, and −13.60 for the 400 mg YOXINTINE group. The differences in MADRS total score changes compared with the placebo were −5.81 (95 % CI: −7.69, −3.92; P < 0.0001) and −3.17 (95 % CI: −5.08, −1.25; P = 0.0013) for the 200 mg and 400 mg groups, respectively. The results indicated a significantly greater MADRS score reduction in the 200 mg group (P = 0.0058, 95 % CI: 0.78, 4.51). Adverse event incidence was comparable among all groups. 10. Coupling Effect between Inlet Distortion Vortex and Fan

- Abstract
In the process of inlet/engine matching, large-scale distortion vortexes would be generated due to lip separation, curved duct, shock-wave boundary layer interaction and other factors of inlet, resulting in complex combination distortion of total pressure and swirl, which would affect the stable and efficient operation of fans/compressors of aero-engine. On the basis of main distortion vortex characteristics of a typical S-shape inlet and its theoretical model of velocity and pressure distribution, this paper establishes an inlet boundary condition definition method to generate three-dimensional distortion vortex, and presents a study of coupling effect between steady distortion vortex and NASA Rotor 67. The results show that the fan’s performance curve would move to smaller mass flow direction under the influence of the co-rotating distortion vortex, while fan’s operation curve would change to the opposite direction if the inlet distortion vortex direction is opposite to the fan’s rotating direction. Compared with co-rotating distortion vortex, the efficiency loss caused by counter-rotating distortion vortex would be larger and total pressure ratio loss would be smaller. The vortex core size has significant influence on the stability margin of the fan, but has little influence on the efficiency and total pressure ratio characteristic. As the vortex core size increases, the range of fan’s tip region with high attack angle would become larger and cause the fan to stall in advance. Due to the non-uniform suction of the downstream fan, the inlet distortion vortex accelerates to mix with the surrounding main flow. The atmospheric and room temperature plasma (ARTP) technique efficiently enhances yeast glutathione (GSH) yield. This study focused on obtaining a GSH over-producing strain, Saccharomyces cerevisiae SCZ40 , through mutagenesis and stability testing. SCZ40 exhibited a remarkable 71.1% increase in GSH content during rice wine fermentation. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and whole-genome sequencing identified ARTP-induced changes in cell morphology and alterations in the protein-serine/threonine kinase and isocitrate dehydrogenase pathways linked to GSH synthesis. Transcriptomic analysis revealed 507 differentially expressed genes, highlighting the impact of ARTP on S. cerevisiae. Up/down-regulated genes associated with glycolysis/gluconeogenesis suggested a shift in glucose distribution favoring the pentose phosphate pathway and positively influencing GSH production. Pathway analysis further elucidated changes in glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA), and GSH biosynthesis pathways. 12. Multivariate association between psychosocial environment, behaviors, and brain functional networks in adolescent depression.

Adolescent depression shows high clinical heterogeneity. Brain functional networks serve as a powerful tool for investigating neural mechanisms underlying depression profiles. A key challenge is to characterize how variation in brain functional organization links to behavioral features and psychosocial environmental influences. We recruited 80 adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD) and 42 healthy controls (HCs). First, we estimated the differences in functional connectivity of resting-state networks (RSN) between the two groups. Then, we used sparse canonical correlation analysis to characterize patterns of associations between RSN connectivity and symptoms, cognition, and psychosocial environmental factors in MDD adolescents. Clustering analysis was applied to stratify patients into homogenous subtypes according to these brain-behavior-environment associations. MDD adolescents showed significantly hyperconnectivity between the ventral attention and cingulo-opercular networks compared with HCs. We identified one reliable pattern of covariation between RSN connectivity and clinical/environmental features in MDD adolescents. In this pattern, psychosocial factors, especially the interpersonal and family relationships, were major contributors to variation in connectivity of salience, cingulo-opercular, ventral attention, subcortical and somatosensory-motor networks. Based on this association, we categorized patients into two subgroups which showed different environment and symptoms characteristics, and distinct connectivity alterations. These differences were covered up when the patients were taken as a whole group. This study identified the environmental exposures associated with specific functional networks in MDD youths. 13. Characteristics of gas-driven fan propulsion system for fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing aircraft

As a propulsion system for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, the gas-driven fan propulsion system has received some attention in recent years due to its simple mechanical structure and good performance. During the operation of the propulsion system, the core turbofan exhaust is directed to the tip turbine to drive the ducted fan to obtain thrust, and the louvered vector exhaust device is used to achieve lift/thrust switching. However, due to the linkage characteristics of the guide vanes of the exhaust device, the exhaust area will gradually change with the deflection of the guide vanes. This may cause uncertain effects on the system. Besides, considering the development cost of the propulsion system, it is necessary to clarify whether the core turbofan needs to be redesigned based on the characteristics of the system. Further, the transitional performance (VTOL to flight) of the propulsion system also needs to be studied. To this end, this study established an overall model of the gas-driven fan propulsion system combined with the characteristics of the core turbofan to analyze these problems. The results indicate that the louvered vector exhaust device can well match the gas-driven fan propulsion system. And when the propulsion system is composed, the gas-driven fan will not significantly affect the operation characteristics of the core turbofan. Besides, the preliminary analysis shows that the gas-driven fan propulsion system can meet the power requirements of the transition state of the fixed-wing VTOL aircraft. 14. Rural Disparities in Early Childhood Well Child Visit Attendance.

- Abstract
Children should attend well child visits (WCVs) during early childhood so that developmental disorders may be identified as early as possible, so treatment can begin. The aim of this research was to determine if rurality impacts access to WCV during early childhood, and if altering rurality measurement methods impacts outcomes. We utilized a longitudinal correlational design with early childhood data gathered from the Virginia All Payer Claims Database, which contains claims data from Medicaid and the majority of Virginia commercial insurance payers (n = 6349). WCV attendance was evaluated against three rurality metrics: a traditional metric using Rural-Urban Commuting Area codes, a developed land variable, and a distance to care variable, at a zip code level. Two of the rurality methods revealed that rural children attend fewer WCVs than their urban counterparts, (67% vs. 50% respectively, using a traditional metric; and a 0.035 increase in WCV attendance for every percent increase in developed land). Differences were attenuated by insurance payer; children with Medicaid attend fewer WCVs than those with private insurance. Young children in rural Virginia attend fewer WCVs than their non-rural counterparts, placing them at higher risk for missing timely developmental disorder screenings. The coronavirus disease pandemic has been associated with an abrupt and significant reduction in vaccination rates, which likely indicates fewer WCVs and concomitant developmental screenings. Pediatric nurses should encourage families of young children to develop a plan for continued WCVs, so that early identification of developmental disorders can be achieved. • Young children (ages 1–5) living in rural Virginia attend fewer well child visits than their urban counterparts • Variability in well child visit attendance rates can be detected using an estimate of the developed land in the zip code. • Covid-19 may further impact rural children's access to developmental screenings because of limited access to telemedicine. 16. Effects of tip-jet on the performance of a ducted fan

Tip-jet technology has potential value for application in vertical take-off and landing or short take-off and landing concept aircraft. The main objective of this current work is to investigate the effects of the tip-jet on the performance of a ducted fan in hover. The overall flow field of the ducted fans with tip-jet was simulated by using the shear-stress transport k-omega turbulence model with a refined high-quality structured grid at various rotational speeds. The comparative analysis of the performances of the ducted fans with different tip-jet locations was carried out. The results indicate that the circulation of the blade with tip-jet is affected by the flow blockage, Coanda effect, and edge-shed vortex. These flow features were formed by the tip-jet. The fan’s thrust could be augmented when the nozzle was a little farther from the blade trailing edge. However, a higher jet flow utility efficiency could be achieved when the nozzle was close to the blade trailing edge. more...

17. Neural Machine Translation With Noisy Lexical Constraints

- Abstract
In neural machine translation, lexically constrained decoding generates translation outputs strictly including the constraints predefined by users, and it is beneficial to improve translation quality at the cost of more decoding overheads if the constraints are perfect. Unfortunately, those constraints may contain mistakes in real-world situations and incorrect constraints will undermine lexically constrained decoding. In this article, we propose a novel framework that is capable of improving the translation quality even if the constraints are noisy. The key to our framework is to treat the lexical constraints as external memories. More concretely, it encodes the constraints by a memory encoder and then leverages the memories by a memory integrator. Experiments demonstrate that our framework can not only deliver substantial BLEU gains in handling noisy constraints, but also achieve speedup in decoding. These results motivate us to apply our models to a new scenario where the constraints are generated without the help of users. 18. Investigations of tip-jet and exhaust jet development in a ducted fan

The major aim of this work is to investigate the tip-jet and exhaust jet development in a ducted fan as well as the impact on the fan’s performance. The flow field of the ducted fans under the solidity varied from 0.2 to 0.7 are simulated by using the shear-stress transport k-ωturbulence model with a refined high-quality structured grid. The exhaust jet trajectory, expanding range and the flow intersection of the jet and mainstream in the blade passage are analyzed. As the results suggest, the flow direction of the exhaust jet is deflected by the downwash and Coanda effect. The major decay region of the exhaust jet can extend at least 2 times the blade chord downstream from the blade trailing edge. The blade circulation is impacted by the tip-jet rather than the exhaust jet from the upstream when the blade tip pitch angle is 8°, and the fan solidity is less than 0.7. The blade tip thrust is reduced by the interruption from the exhaust jet when the blade tip pitch angle is 2°, and the fan solidity is larger than 0.3. more...

- Abstract
The atmospheric and room temperature plasma (ARTP) technique efficiently enhances yeast glutathione (GSH) yield. This study focused on obtaining a GSH over-producing strain, Saccharomyces cerevisiae SCZ40, through mutagenesis and stability testing. SCZ40exhibited a remarkable 71.1% increase in GSH content during rice wine fermentation. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and whole-genome sequencing identified ARTP-induced changes in cell morphology and alterations in the protein-serine/threonine kinase and isocitrate dehydrogenase pathways linked to GSH synthesis. Transcriptomic analysis revealed 507 differentially expressed genes, highlighting the impact of ARTP on S. cerevisiae. Up/down-regulated genes associated with glycolysis/gluconeogenesis suggested a shift in glucose distribution favoring the pentose phosphate pathway and positively influencing GSH production. Pathway analysis further elucidated changes in glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA), and GSH biosynthesis pathways. Geospatial technology and the design profession have been growing and developing side by side in the US for more than three decades. The newly-coined word Geodesign not only describes a practice of applying geographic knowledge and technology in the design process but also marks new pathways in application and academic research. However, the places that need Geodesign the most are in many low-tech developing countries where large-scale developments and significant landscape changes are occurring. This paper uses the master plan for the Wulingyuan National Scenic Area, China as an example to discuss the contributions of Geodesign to developing countries such as China. The Wulingyuan National Scenic Area is a World Heritage Site and home to many wildlife species. The explosive growth of tourism in the park since the 1980s has caused significant environmental deterioration. The challenges of balancing development and conservation, the spatial analyses and final planning strategies and outcomes are introduced to show how the concepts and techniques from Geodesign have improved the planning process. At the end of the article, the authors argue for the promotion of Geodesign in developing countries through education, data sharing, and more accessible collaborative geospatial tools. 23. Statewide Analysis Reveals Period of Well-Child Visit Attendance for Earlier Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Objective: To explore the relationship between well-child visit (WCV) attendance during early childhood and age at autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis using data drawn from a statewide all-payer claims database.Study Design: We used a correlational study design with longitudinal data drawn from the Virginia All-Payer Claims Database. All children born in 2011 with a diagnosis of ASD were included (n = 253). Survival analysis determined the impact of WCV attendance on ASD diagnosis at each American Academy of Pediatrics-recommended early childhood visit, and the 5-year visit.Results: Survival analysis revealed a significant impact of WCV attendance at the 24-month, 3-, and 4-year visits on earlier ASD diagnosis. Children who attended the 24-month visit were diagnosed nearly 10 months earlier than those who did not. Overall, children with ASD attended fewer than 50% of visits during early childhood.Conclusions: Promoting consistent WCV attendance during early childhood is an actionable strategy for improving early identification of ASD. Further exploration is needed to determine barriers to visit attendance and the impact of patterns of early childhood WCV attendance on age of ASD diagnosis. - Abstract
V-ATPase plays a central role in lepidopteran midgut ion transport physiology, and lepidopteran midgut turned out to be a model tissue for the study of V-ATPase. In the present study, the 5’-RACE method is used to obtain the 5’-UTR of V-ATPase c subunit gene from Bombyx mori. Sequence analysis of the promoter region and 3’-UTR of V-ATPase c subunit gene revealed that the transcription of the V-ATPase c subunit gene may be regulated by multi-ways. RT-PCR analysis showed that B. mori V-ATPase c subunit mRNA expresses in the whole developmental stages of B. mori. We also constructed a transient vector to determine the subcellular localization of the B. mori V-ATPase c subunit, and the result demonstrated that it is located in the membrane and some specifi c regions of BmN cells. Real-time PCR analysis further indicated that the c subunit mRNA expression was upregulated signifi cantly at 24 and 72 h in the midguts of resistant B. mori larvae after being inoculated with B. mori nucleopolyhedrovirus, suggesting that it may be related to the immune response against virus infection. more...

How to effectively prepare students for the operational GIS jobs becomes a challenge to instructors.This study explores an innovative approach in teaching operational GIS to students who have taken only one introductory GIS course. It brings real world cases into university classrooms and exposes students to practical solutions of multiple scenarios. In the course of 15 weeks, students learn the complete project cycle from problem definition, data review, project planning, to step-by-step operations, including data modeling, procedures automation, visualization, presentation and reporting. The class forms teams to solve network logistic routing for an emergency relief operation, design a geodatabase for a municipal GIS department, and perform 3D modeling for a campus solar radiation analysis.The design of the course allows students to learn the skills needed for solving all three cases in class, while focusing on one of the cases for hands-on work in lab hours and take-home assignments. The combination of lectures, demos, student presentations and class discussions provides an engaging environment for all students. Guest lecturers from the case sponsoring organizations bring real world experience and scenarios into the classroom, enriching students’ understanding of the problems and making sure that the classroom solutions are indeed operationally sound. • Local government staff are crucial in post-disaster work but were under-studied. • The longitudinal study innovatively shows changes in PTSD and burnout over 7 years. • It was a first attempt to test reciprocal relationship between burnout and PTSD. Although local government staff are crucial in post-quake reconstruction, their long-term psychological and professional consequences remain unclear. This longitudinal study investigated changes of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and professional burnout over seven years, and their underlying relationship. The study assessed 250 staff at one year (T 1y) after the earthquake, and 162 (64.8 %) were followed up at seven years (T 7y). PTSD and professional burnout were assessed with the Short Screening Scale for DSM-IV PTSD and the burnout subscale of Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL), respectively, at both time points. Longitudinal changes in PTSD and burnout were examined and cross-lagged panel analyses were conducted to test the relationship between PTSD and burnout. The rates of positive cases of PTSD screening were 23.2 % at T 1y and 11.1 % at T 7y. The percentages of moderate burnout were 61.7 % at T 1y and 23.5 % at T 7y. Scores of PTSD (z = -5.70, p < 0.001) and burnout (t = 10.07, p < 0.001) from T 1y to T 7y decreased. The cross-lagged analysis indicated that burnout at T 1y predicted PTSD at T 7y (β = 0.19, p = 0.025). In conclusion, the Wenchuan earthquake has long-lasting negative effects on local government staff, although they can recover over time. 28. Duffing–van der Pol nonlinear reduced-order model for explaining the phenomena and mechanism in pulsed jet flow separation control

- Abstract
A two-equation nonlinear reduced-order model is established to describe the interaction between external periodic excitation from a pulsed jet and unsteady flow separation. This model, which is based on a 2D Navier–Stokes equation, the Stuart vortex row model, and the Stuart–Landau model, can approximately describe the typical phenomena occurring in pulsed jet flow separation control. These phenomena include the frequency-dependent, threshold, and lock-on effects, which are related to the frequency, intensity, and phase of excitation. Two indices, namely, the maximum Lyapunov exponent and the entrainment degree, are introduced to identify the mechanism of flow control via external periodic excitation. These indices are used to reflect the order degree and momentum transfer of the flow field. A comparison of the results of the model and those of a numerical simulation in a curved diffuser shows that the nonlinear reduced-order model is effective for qualitatively featuring the behavior of pulsed jet flow separation control. Moreover, the mechanism of pulsed jet flow separation control is explained via the model. 29. Investigations of entrainment characteristics and shear-layer vortices evolution in an axisymmetric rear variable area bypass injector

- Abstract
In this study, firstly, for the axisymmetric RVABI, the change-rule of adverse pressure gradient caused by radial velocity during the transition of internal flow mode in variable geometry is summarized, and a Bypass Ratio (BR) iterative algorithm based on the empirical correlation of non-equilibrium pressure is proposed. The algorithm can estimate the nonlinear relationship between area ratio and BR, with an error range falling below 6.5%. Then, we discuss the favorable effect of uniform mixing on the thrust augmentation of mixed exhaust under variable BR conditions. From this point of view, the characteristics of vortices evolution in different shear strength jets are compared, to clarify the effect of variable cycle parameters on jet mixing. As the results suggest, when Λis as low as 0.22, the K-H disturbance is of high-frequency wavelet property, and it is difficult to induce large-scale spanwise vortices. The macro migrations of fluid elements in spanwise vortices and the diffusion effect caused by edge tearing is weak, which is not conducive to the energy exchange between the two streams. However, the low Λjet will also correspondingly weaken the viscous dissipation effect of vortices. It is concluded that the dissipation level is proportional to the 2.31 power of the Λ. more...

30. Experimental and numerical investigation of a supersonic inlet with double S-bend diffuser

- Abstract
Design of a supersonic inlet with double S-bend diffuser was developed. Numerical simulation and wind tunnel experiment were carried out to investigate the aerodynamic performance and variable geometric rules of the inlet. The result indicates that the variable geometry scheme adopted solves the contradiction between starting performance at low Mach number and aerodynamic performance at high Mach number. The inlet works normally and stably over a wide speed range. At design point, the total pressure recovery coefficient reaches 0.47. In addition, two different kinds of inlets with double S-bend diffuser and single S-bend diffuser were studied. Compared with the double S-bend diffuser, the total pressure recovery coefficient of the single S-bend diffuser is higher at low Mach number (Ma0< 3) and lower at high Mach number (Ma0> 3). With the increase of backpressure, shock train mainly moves upstream along the low-energy flow region in the diffuser. For the double S-bend diffuser, shock train will first move along the lower corner and then along the upper corner. For the single S-bend diffuser, it will only move along the upper corner. The strong secondary flow of the double S-bend is the main reason for the above phenomenon. more...
