1. Energy Efficient United L2 Cache Design with Instruction/Data Filter Scheme.

Abstract

The on-chip caches usually consume a significant amount of energy in modern microprocessors. This paper presents an I/D filter scheme to reduce the energy consumption of united L2 caches shared by instructions and data. By adding an I/D indicator bit, the cache block is classified into I-block and D-block. For instruction and data accesses, only the corresponding blocks instead of all the blocks in the same set selected are accessed. By this method, we can easily filter the unnecessary way activities and save the energy consumption. This technique uses a small amount of additional hardware without increasing the cache access latency, and the area overhead is negligible. Simplescalar simulator and CACTI were used to evaluate the performance of our proposed architecture, the results shows that the I/D filter scheme is energy efficient for set-associative caches. Abstract

Network processor (NP) is optimized to perform network tasks. It uses massive parallel processing architecture to achieve high performance. Ad hoc network is an exciting research aspect due to the characters of self-organization, dynamically topology and temporary network life. However, all the characters make the security problem more serious. Denial-of-Service (DOS) attack is the main puzzle in the security of Ad hoc network. A novel NP-based security scheme is proposed to combat the attack. Security agent is established by a hardware thread in NP. Agent can update itself at some interval by the trustworthiness of the neighbor nodes. Agent can trace the RREQ and RREP messages stream to aggregate the key information and analyze them by intrusion detection algorithm. NS2 simulator is expanded to validate the security scheme. 3. A parallel programming interface for out-of-core cluster applications

Abstract

Clusters of workstations are a practical approach to parallel computing that provide high performance at a low cost for many scientific and engineering applications. In order to handle problems with increasing data sets, methods supporting parallel out-of-core computations must be investigated. Since writing an out-of-core version of a program is a difficult task and virtual memory systems do not perform well in some cases, we have developed a parallel programming interface and the support library to provide efficient and convenient access to the out-of-core data. This paper focuses on how these components extend the range of problem sizes that can be solved on the cluster of workstations. Execution time of Jacobi iteration when using our interface, virtual memory and PVFS are compared to characterize the performance for various problem sizes, and it is concluded that our new interface significantly increases the sizes of problems that can be efficiently solved.Clusters of workstations are a practical approach to parallel computing that provide high performance at a low cost for many scientific and engineering applications. Multi-expert opinion combination (MOC) mechanisms and their knowledge organizations are proposed in this paper.The MOC mechanisms are based on a MOC model and some MOC rules, and they are realized in two kinds of algoritms: the VOTING ALGORITHM and the LAST-SPEAKER ALGORITHM. Their knowledge are organized with the rules of Independent-partition mechanism so that the MOC algroithms can be efficiently per-formed.
