IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy (CMA) is the most common pediatric food allergen (FA). Persistent CMA is uncommon (50% CMA tolerance, by 5 years-of-age/75% by adolescence/0.2% remain into adulthood). FA Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) requires product listing of 8 major FAs, including cow's milk (CM). This mandate does not require front-product labeling (FPL) on FA-containing products. We describe a CMA fatality in a parent-supervised pre-teen female who ingested CM-protein drink, misinterpreted as non-CM-containing with FPL of fruit imagery, without CM-FA notation.

Synthesis and crystal structure of 1,6‐Bis‐(N,N‐diethylaminothiocarbamoylimino)‐1,6‐diphenyl‐2,5‐dithiahexane are reported as well as those of its dimeric AgIcomplex (as monotoluene adduct of the diperchlorate) and its tetrameric μ‐tetrabromo AgIcomplex.

After both an introduction into the basic problems of electron transfer reactions (“redox reactions”) and their interconnection with substitution reactions, and a description of the situation met by Henry Taube in the early fifties, are presented and discussed: the so-called labile and inert complexes considering the kinetics of ligand exchange; the outerandinner- spheremechanisnisandtheir impact on electron transfer as well as the restrictions caused by the Franck-Condon principle (through potential-energy diagrams); the Marcus model for the outer-sphere mechanism; the important historical studies on the activated bridged Taube complex and their mechanistic consequences (precursor, activated, successor complex); and bridged mixed-valence complexes with corresponding model conceptions elaborated by Hush for the intervalence transfer bands in the electron spectrum of these complexes.

New sulphonamide Schiff base adducts of germanium tetra-chloride of the type GeCl4.2SBH2 have been prepared and characterized. These have been prepared by the reactions of germanium tetrachloride with bifunctional tridentate Schiff bases (SBH2) such as HOC6H4CH:NC6H4SO2KHR (where R represents various heterocycles) and having the donor system [image omitted] . Molecular weight determinations in boiling chloroform and molar conductance measurements in dimethyl formamide show their monomeric and non-electrolytic nature, respectively. The coordination of the azomethine nitrogen to germanium has been substantiated by IR and 1H NMR spectral studies and these further show the non-reactivity of the sulphonamide group on coordination. The elemental analyses and spectral data confirm a 1:2 (metal:ligand) stoichiometry with a coordination number of six for the central germanium atom.

The study of [(CH3)4N]x[ML2]-chelates (x = 0.5 − 2) with M = Ni, Pd, Pt and L = dmit (1,3-dithiole-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate), dmise (1,3-dithiole-2-selone-4,5-dithiolate), dsit (1,3-dithiole-2-thione-4,5-diselenolate), dsise (1,3-dithiole-2-selone-4,5-diselenolate) and dsis (1,3-diselenole-2-selone-4,5-diselenolate) shows distinct effects of the variation of the number of selenium and sulfur atoms on the redox and conducting properties.

The extraction properties of dibenzo-1, 10-dithia-[18]crown-6 compounds have been investigated. Especially thiophilic metals are effectively extracted. The extraction of Ag(I), Pd(II) and Au(III) is much greater than that of Hg(II) or Cu(I). Alkali and alkaline earth metals are not extracted. The experimental results show the coordination of metal ions with sulfur is decisive for the extraction. The variation of the subetituents at the macrocyclic ring from CH3- t o CH2Cl-groups influences the extraction power considerably. In contrast, the substitution on the benzo groups shows a less strong effect. The influence of diluents and counter anions on extraction are comparable with results in known crown ether systems. Synergistic extraction is observed for silver and mixtures of dithiacrown compounds and HDEHP, n-caprylic acid or TBP.

At the calculation of non-diagonal elements in LCAO-MO-methods for coordination compounds arise three-center nuclear attraction integrals of type(?a¦1/rc¦?b) We give a simple method for the approximate calculation of these integrals which is based on the high symmetry of the coordination compounds. The three-center integrals are reduced to a sum of few special two-center integrals.

N-Methyl-ß-aminopropionic acid (MAP) containing resin binds Cu2+, UO22+, Bi3+, Cr3+ and Fe3+ due to its coordinating tendencies, whereas Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Be2+, Tl+, NH4+, alkalines, alkaline earths and rare earths are not retained. The selectivity can be increased by variation of pH, temperature and inert-salt background. Analytical applications have been shown by separations of binary mixtures. Sometimes these separations are simple and rapid filtration operations.

A 30 period permanent magnet (SmCo5) undulator has been designed, built and tested. The period is 6.1 cm, overall length is 1.95 m, and the gap is variable from 2.7 cm to 6.0 cm. Magnetic measurements at the midplane with a 2.7 cm gap show that the field is sinusoidal with a peak value of .28 T. Construction details and magnetic measurements are presented along with the spectral distribution of radiation produced by 3.0 GeV electrons traversing the undulator.

Current design of permanent magnet wiggler/ undulators use either pure charge sheet equivalent material (CSEM) or the CSEM-Steel hybrid configuration. Hybrid configurations offer higher field strength at small gaps, field distributions dominated by the pole surfaces and pole tuning. Nominal performance of the hybrid is generally predicted using a 2-D magnetic design code neglecting transverse geometry. Magnetic measurements are presented showing transverse configuration influence on performance, from a combination of models using CSEMs, REC (Hc = 9.2 kOe) and NdFe (Hc = 10.7 kOe), different pole widths and end configurations. Results show peak field improvement using NdFe in place of REC in identical models, gap peak field decrease with pole width decrease (all results less than computed 2-D fields), transverse gap field distributions, and importance of CSEM material overhanging the poles in the transverse direction for highest gap fields.

The construction and assembly of a Cs ion injector consisting of a pulsed source and 3 pulsed drift tubes has been complete since April, 1980. The measurement program, underway since then to characterize the beam, has been interspersed with the development of diagnostic equipment. The Cs contact ionization source and each of the 3 drift tubes are driven by 500 kV Marx generators. The injector has been operated reliably at 300 kV/stage at a repetition rate of 1 pulse/4 sec. About 105 pulses have been accumulated. The space charge limited diode and drift tube acceleration system were designed with the aid of the EGUN code of Herrmannsfeldt. Measurements of the beam envelope have been made by means of a movable biased charge collector. Good agreement with the EGUN calculation is found. Measurements of the beam emittance have been made at the exit of the third drift tube. The normalized emittance ¿ ¿N = 2 x 10-6 ¿ m-rad is of better optical quality than that required for further acceleration and transport in a Heavy Ion Fusion (HIF) Induction Linac Driver.

The bis(chelate) complexes (III) as well as Cd(II), Hg(II), and Cu(II) analogues are synthesized starting with the title dithiolate dmits generated in situ by debenzoylation of the diester (I).

The title complexes (I)‐(III) are prepared starting with alkali salts of the ligands either isolated before or in situ solution obtained by saponification of the dibenzoyl compounds (using methanolic sodium (or potassium) methanolate) and MCl3(M: In, V) or (TlCl4)‐ and isolated as their AsPh4‐or NBu4‐salts.

Chlorination of the coordinated thiourea derivative in (I) yields the title compound (II) (C2/c, Z=4), which can be reduced to give (III).

The new synthesis of the title compound (VI) occurs starting with the 1,3‐diselenole‐2‐selone (I) as shown in the scheme.

Starting with CSe2of CSeS the electrochemical preparation (electrosynthesis) of heterocyclic dichalcogenates C3X52‐(X: Se or X: Se/S) is reported.

The 26‐membered dimetallamacrocycle (III) crystallizes in the space group P21/n with Z=2.

The bis(chelates) (IIIa) and (IIIb) are obtained according to the scheme.

The preparation of metal(II) and/or metal(III) chelate complexes such as (III) is described.
