ABSTRACTManufacturing industries are constantly pressured by market demands to produce low-cost, high-quality products. Market demands tend to be complex and full of variations, especially in fast-paced industrial settings. To cope with the rising market demands, traditional manufacturing techniques are forced to develop and adapt advanced practices and methods. However, as advances in manufacturing technology grow, so does the need to implement them in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The outcome of this urgent need is a combination of traditional manufacturing tools and modern technologies, hardware or software, that transforms traditional manufacturing into intelligent manufacturing. Intelligent manufacturing systems are complex systems in which optimization methodologies are combined with sensor-based control systems. Such intelligent and optimized systems are capable of producing high-quality products at fast production rates and lower cost.Among the broad range of manufacturing processes, this paper focuses on machining and aims to detail the recent advances in the field of intelligent machining. The paper is divided into two interrelated topics, namely techniques and tools. Techniques are mainly referred to optimization techniques in intelligent machining while tools focus on smart cutting tools. The paper will detail the technological trends and significant contributions in each of these areas in chronological order.

As advances in manufacturing technology grow, so does the need for better cutting tools and sensors to execute and monitor manufacturing processes, respectively. By integrating these concepts, the development of smart cutting tools was created. The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of several major fields regarding the development and applications of smart cutting tools. This review will detail works published in chronological order that made significant contributions and provided a platform to allow for further work to be done.

Dupilumab treatment improves sense of smell in patients with severe chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), but the effect of dupilumab on sense of smell in male vs female patients has not been reported. Here, we assessed the effect of dupilumab vs placebo on sense of smell by gender in patients with severe CRSwNP from SINUS-52 (NCT02898454).

The article discusses various legal challenges that U.S. criminal defendants participating in restorative justice responses to crime apparently have to deal with as of May 2014, focusing on American constitutional and criminal laws, as well as the legal rights of sexual assault victims in the U.S. The Pima County, Arizona RESTORE Program, which is reportedly an empirical research demonstration project, is examined. A U.S. right to counsel and a privilege against self-incrimination are assessed.

This paper outlines methods for dimensioning and tolerancing lens seats that mate with spherical lens surfaces. The two types of seats investigated are sharp corner and tangent contact. The goal is to be able to identify which seat dimensions influence lens tilt and displacement and develop a quantifiable way to assign tolerances to those dimensions to meet tilt and displacement requirements. After looking at individual seats, methods are then applied to multiple lenses with examples. All geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is according to ASME Y14.5M - 1994.

Australian canola (Brassica napusL.) has been relatively isolated from the global gene pool and limited knowledge is available for genetic variability based on DNA profiling. In the present study, genetic diversity of recent Australian canola cultivars was determined by simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker analysis. In total, 405 individuals from 48 varieties were genotyped with 18 primer pairs, resulting in 112 polymorphic features. The number of polymorphic features amplified by each SSR primer pair varied from 3 to 16. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) detected 53.7% and 46.3% within- and between-cultivar variation, respectively. Intra-cultivar genetic variability differed according to cultivar. The number of polymorphic features per cultivar varied from 35 (Ag-Spectrum) to 72 (Ag-Insignia), while mean sum of squares (MSS) varied from 6.29 (Tornado TT) to 24.76 (Ag-Emblem). Genetic differentiation of cultivars generally reflected pedigree structure and origin by breeding organisation. Clustering and principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) indicated that the individuals were separated into 4 major groups. The genetic diversity information from this study will be useful for future Australian canola breeding programs.

This paper looks at the performance that can be achieved using timber platform floors on concrete floor bases in order to design a platform floor that could provide at least 29dB ΔLw(both loaded and unloaded) for use in floor constructions described in Approved Document E (2003 Edition). Reconstituted open cell foams were identified as resilient materials that could provide suitable static and dynamic stiffness under lightweight timber floating floors. Using two layers of reconstituted foam a platform floor comprising 22m tongue and grooved chipboard achieved 29dB ΔLwwhen loaded, and 30dB ΔLwunloaded. Indicative tests on double platform floating floors indicated that they may be beneficial in floor designs where negative values of ΔLcan not be tolerated due to critical impact sound insulation and structural stability requirements. A double floating floor could use dynamically stiffer resilient materials than would be needed in a single floating floor and still provide the required impact sound insulation and structural stability.
