Humidification dehumidification processes have been extensively introduced to the field of desalination. In this paper, a water-heated humidification dehumidification desalination system (HDDS), with open-air and semi-closed seawater water configurations, is proposed to achieve the waste heat recovery. After establishing the energetic and entropic equations of the humidification dehumidification desalination system, the corresponding analysis is accomplished. Furthermore, the dependence of the desalination performance, including the water production and relevant thermal efficiency, to the effectiveness, and cycle ratio are focused. The simulation results show the peak values of water production and gained-output-ratio (GOR) emerge at the balance condition of the humidifier. Nevertheless, due to the acquisition of the negative entropy generation rate, the actual values of water production and GOR are found as 104.64 kg h–1and 1.98. Based on the parametric analysis, it is found that a lower humidification effectiveness is beneficial to raise the actual desalination performance, while the HDDS performance will be elevated after the increase of the dehumidification effectiveness. Furthermore, the improvement of energy conversion for the current configuration is also proved in response to recover partial brine into the feed seawater.

Vibration control of a 22 story RC frame-shear wall apartment building with large aspect ratio was studied in this paper. Three vibration control plan with mild steel dampers, viscous dampers and viscoelastic dampers were proposed to control structural dynamic responses under earthquake. The dynamic responses of the structure with the proposed control schemes under earthquake excitations were investigated and their vibration control effects were compared. The numerical analysis results show that structural dynamic responses under earthquake excitations can be decreased effectively using the proposed plan. The earthquake response with viscous dampers was smaller than that with mild steel dampers and viscoelastic dampers. The shear force, drift and the acceleration of the structure with viscous dampers were 20%-40% less than the structure without any dampers for the slender structure.

A plasma sound wave detection method of laser shock processing (LSP) technology is proposed. Speciments of Ni-base superalloy are used in this paper. A convergent lens is used to deliver 1.2 J, 10 ns laser pulses by a Q-switch Nd:YAG laser, operating at 1 Hz. The influence of the laser density to the shock wave is investigated in detail for two different wavelength lasers. Constant amplitude fatigue data are generated in room environment using notch specimens tested at an amplitude of vibration 2.8 mm and first-order flextensional mode. The results show that LSP is an effective surface treatment technique for improving the high cycle fatigue performance of Ni-base superalloys having a factor of 1.62 improvement in fatigue life.
