- Abstract
1.Tracks exhibit the best properties after quenching from 1000–1050°. At lower quenching temperatures the residual carbides are not fully dissolved, and at higher temperatures the grain becomes coarser.2.The soaking time should not be more than 30–40 minutes at the optimum temperature.3.In order to reduce the time taken by the heat treatment and to produce more stable mechanical properties the steel should contain 10.5–12.5% Mn.4.The quenching operation should be carried out without any delay, and the temperature of the water should not exceed 30°. The properties of the steel are appreciably improved after quenching in water at 15°.
