Abstract: In this work we try to distinguish five levels of the constitution of reality in Conrad Martius’ Realontologie (1923) (Real Ontology). The difference between “existential autonomy” and “existential relativity” seems to be the first one. The second level of the constitution of reality concerns the problem of “whatness” (Washeit) and the substantial reality (Realität). We can find the third level in the materiality from the eidetical point of view. The fourth level of the constitution of reality concerns the material formation as presupposition of a personal essence. Finally we can distinguish a fifth level of the constitution of the reality in the essential stratification.

In this note we survey recent results on the extrinsic geometry of the Jacobian locus inside $$\mathsf {A}_g$$ Ag . We describe the second fundamental form of the Torelli map as a multiplication map, recall the relation between totally geodesic subvarieties and Hodge loci and survey various results related to totally geodesic subvarieties and the Jacobian locus.

Questo lavoro esamina l'interpretazione di Edith Stein dell'ordine della conoscenza di Dionigi, al fine di evidenziare i tre gradi della conoscenza di Dio possibili per l'essere umano. A tal fine la fenomenologa prende in considerazione le varie possibilità dell'immaginazione fantastica, della ragione, dell'intuizione e della fede di cui l'essere finito dispone. In particolare, attraverso una teoria dell'immagine che fa da filo rosso all'intera trattazione, si mostrerà come, per volere divino, la creatura finita verrà trasportata mediante la Grazia, da un vedere intuitivo proprio della conoscenza naturale, a una visione diretta della Presenza. Detto altrimenti: da un'immagine che si configurava come riproduzione fantasticata dell'essere (conoscenza naturale) o come simbolo della Parola (conoscenza per fede), diviene apprensione diretta dell'Essere infinito (conoscenza divina del mistico).

AbstractThe aim of this study is to investigate the role of body dissatisfaction (BD) – conceived here as predicting, predicted and mediating variable – in relation to media influence, body mass index (BMI) and body modification strategies among adolescents, with particular attention to gender differences. Specifically, we investigate, through a multivariated model, the direct and mediated effect of internalization and pressure to conform to aesthetic ideals and BMI on engagement in body modification behaviours, namely eating problems, attitudes toward cosmetic surgery, body art and physical activity. A questionnaire designed to assess all these dimensions was administered to 843 Italian adolescents aged between 15 and 18 years. The findings confirm the available evidence on BD as predicted by a number of sociocultural and personal variables, and as predictive of adolescents’ bodily attitudes and behaviours. Gendered differences in behaviours considered as ‘ways out’ from discomforting feelings about physical appearance are discussed.

We consider Fano manifolds M that admit a collection of finite automorphism groups G1, , Gk, such that the quotients M/Gi are smooth Fano manifolds possessing a Khler-Einstein metric. Under some numerical and smoothness assumptions on the ramification divisors, we prove that M admits a Khler-Einstein metric too.

The Coleman–Oort conjecture says that for large gthere are no positive-dimensional Shimura subvarieties of Aggenerically contained in the Jacobian locus. Counterexamples are known for g≤7. They can all be constructed using families of Galois coverings of curves satisfying a numerical condition. These families are already classified in cases where: (a) the Galois group is cyclic, (b) it is abelian and the family is 1-dimensional, or c) g≤9. By means of carefully designed computations and theoretical arguments excluding a large number of cases we are able to prove that for g≤100there are no other families than those already known.

We describe our experience with color Doppler ultrasonography (CDU) in the preoperative staging of pancreatic cancer and, particularly, in detecting the involvement of the portal-mesenteric trunk (PMT). Of the 54 patients studied, 43 (79.6) underwent surgery and 11 (20.4) did not because of evident infiltration of the PMT. Of the 43 patients operated on, the CDU study was normal in 8 cases (1 8.6), abnormal in 33 (76.7), and not possible in the remaining 2 cases (4.7). Results of the CDU were confirmed intraoperatively in 39 cases (diagnostic accuracy, 95.1). In only two cases (4.9) did the CDU not show involvement of the PMT, which was, instead, demonstrated by intraoperative ultrasonography (false negatives). Of the 11 nonoperated patients, all showed morphological alterations at CDU, while only 7 showed hematic flow changes. The sensitivity of CDU was 94.2 and the specificity 100. The positive predictive value was 100; the negative predictive value, 75. The results indicate that CDU may be the first imaging technique for preoperative assessment of PMT involvement in pancreatic cancer.
