Acute Varicella Zoster viral encephalitis in immunocompetent adult patients without cutaneous herpes has rarely been reported. A 24-year-old female was hospitalized for a headache with a fever but without other obvious symptoms. Multiple routine examinations showed no abnormalities. Lumbar puncture indicated intracranial hypertension. The examination of cerebrospinal fluid by metagenomic next-generation sequencing demonstrated acute Varicella Zoster viral encephalitis. The patient’s condition improved by treatment with acyclovir for antiviral therapy and mannitol dehydration to lower cranial pressure. Central Varicella Zoster viral infection should be emphasized as it is easily misdiagnosed and rare in clinical settings. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing of cerebrospinal fluid has significant advantages in the diagnosis of Varicella Zoster viral encephalitis.

Background: With the fast development of aerospace technology, in order to improve the carrying efficiency of spacecraft, its design is gradually moving towards lighter weight and large size, such as solar wings, satellite antennas, and space manipulators. However, the application of flexible appendage can easily arouse obvious vibration during mission, which affects the operation accuracy and even threaten the safety of spacecraft structure. Purpose: To improve the working accuracy of spacecraft, the passive control strategy is adopted to suppress the serious vibration of the flexible appendage under different loads. Methods: Based on the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF), the dynamic model of spacecraft flexible appendage is established. Firstly, the single-degree-offreedom (1-DOF) and two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) NES are applied to the flexible beam structure. On this basis, the vibration characteristics and dynamic evolution of the coupled system are investigated under different load conditions. Results: When the initial amplitude of the NES is larger, the vibration reduction efficiency of the system becomes higher. At the same time, increasing the additional mass of the NES could also improve the effect of the structural vibration suppression. Conclusion: Vibration suppression effects on the dynamic characteristics of flexible appendage are closely related to the installation position of nonlinear energy sink. Compared with the 1-DOF NES, the 2-DOF NES has a better energy suppression effect, and the vibration energy transfer rate from the main system to the subsystem is more obvious when the additional total mass is the same.

Parotid gland tuberculosis constantly results in unnecessary medical examinations and surgery because of its similarities in the presentation to neoplasms of the parotid gland. Although parotid gland involvement is extremely rare even in tuberculosis-endemic countries, accurate diagnosis of this clinical entity is of great significance because tuberculous parotitis can be successfully treated medically without surgical therapy. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and molecular identification of the parotid swellings are efficient in making a rapid diagnosis. Herein, we report an early misdiagnosis of malignancy from a renal transplantation patient on long-term immunologic inhibitor therapy, who ultimately proved to have tuberculosis of the parotid gland by FNAC and molecular identification. The aim of this study is to describe and analyze the etiologic characteristics, epidemiology, clinical presentations, diagnostic methods, histopathologic findings, and pathogenic mechanisms of these rare infections.

Nocardia pseudobrasiliensisis a new taxon constituting an emerging species of human pathogenic Nocardia, which shares morphological features with N. brasiliensis. However, N. pseudobrasiliensisis more invasive and more easily disseminated, and it exhibits distinctive antibiotic susceptibility. Few clinical cases related to N. pseudobrasiliensisinfection have been reported, and N. pseudobrasiliensishydrarthrosis has not been described. Here, we analyzed the case information, diagnostic process, treatment, and prognosis of a patient with N. pseudobrasiliensishydrarthrosis who received treatment in Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging showed joint cavity effusion and soft tissue swelling with high signal on proton density-fat saturated images and low signal on T1-weighted images. Oil microscopy revealed abundant acid-fast–positive filaments in hydrarthrosis puncture fluid. The pathogen was identified as N. pseudobrasiliensisby matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization–time of flight mass spectrometry. In contrast to the 100% ciprofloxacin resistance displayed by N. brasiliensis, this clinical isolate of N. pseudobrasiliensiswas completely susceptible. In summary, this is the first report of N. pseudobrasiliensisin joint effusion from a patient with arthritis.

The resistance rate of Klebsiella pneumoniaeto commonly used antibiotics has been increasing rapidly, causing serious concern among clinicians and microbiologists. Resistance to carbapenems in K. pneumoniaeis increasing dramatically in Chinese hospitals. Here we report the genome sequence of an NDM-1 and KPC-2 co-producing K. pneumoniae(CRKP380) isolated from a bloodstream infection in Hangzhou, China.

Bulk La0.5Pr0.5Fe11.4Si1.6compound exhibits a large magnetic-entropy change ΔSmof 28.1 J/(kg K) for a magnetic-field change from 0 to 1.5 T at the Curie temperature, TCof 186 K, accompanied by a large magnetic hysteresis of 56 J/kg and a noticeable thermal hysteresis of about 1 K. If the bulk sample is ground into middle-size particles (30–60 μm), then the thermal hysteresis is almost eliminated and the magnetic hysteresis loss is decreased by 29%, while the large ΔSmmaintains. Especially, fine powder with an average size of 2 μm shows the same TCas the bulk and does not lose stability. Meanwhile, a comparatively large ΔSmof 13.9 J/(kg K) and a hysteresis reduction of 70% are attained. The hysteresis reduction can be ascribed to the decrease of internal strains and to the improvement of heat transfer due to the increase of the ratio of the surface area to the volume.
