Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), an immunological disorder that arises from donor T cell activation through recognition of host alloantigens, is the major limitation in the application of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Traditional immunosuppressive agents can relieve GVHD, but they induce serious side effects. It is highly required to explore alternative therapeutic strategy. Human amniotic epithelial stem cells (hAESCs) were recently considered as an ideal source for cell therapy with special immune regulatory property. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic role of hAESCs in the treatment of GVHD, based on our previous developed cGMP-grade hAESCs product. Humanized mouse model of acute GVHD (aGVHD) was established by injection of huPBMCs via the tail vein. For prevention or treatment of aGVHD, hAESCs were injected to the mice on day -1 or on day 7 post-PBMC infusion, respectively. We showed that hAESCs infusion significantly alleviated the disease phenotype, increased the survival rate of aGVHD mice, and ameliorated pathological injuries in aGVHD target organs. We demonstrated that hAESCs directly induced CD4+T cell polarization, in which Th1 and Th17 subsets were downregulated, and Treg subset was elevated. Correspondingly, the levels of a series of pro-inflammatory cytokines were reduced while the levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokines were upregulated in the presence of hAESCs. We found that hAESCs regulated CD4+subset polarization in a paracrine mode, in which TGFβ and PGE2 were selectively secreted to mediate Treg elevation and Th1/Th17 inhibition, respectively. In addition, transplanted hAESCs preserved the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect by inhibiting leukemia cell growth. More intriguingly, hAESCs infusion in HSCT patients displayed potential anti-GVHD effect with no safety concerns and confirmed the immunoregulatory mechanisms in the preclinical study. We conclude that hAESCs infusion is a promising therapeutic strategy for post-HSCT GVHD without compromising the GVL effect. Following percutaneous coronary intervention with stent placement to treat acute coronary syndromes, international clinical guidelines generally recommend dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin plus a P2Y12receptor inhibitor for 12 months to prevent myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis. However, data on single antiplatelet therapy with a potent P2Y12inhibitor earlier than 12 months after percutaneous coronary intervention for patients with an acute coronary syndrome are scarce. The aim of this trial was to assess whether the use of ticagrelor alone, compared with ticagrelor plus aspirin, could reduce the incidence of clinically relevant bleeding events without an accompanying increase in major adverse cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events (MACCE).

Intravascular ultrasound-guided percutaneous coronary intervention has been shown to result in superior clinical outcomes compared with angiography-guided percutaneous coronary intervention. However, insufficient data are available concerning the advantages of intravascular ultrasound guidance for patients with an acute coronary syndrome. This trial aimed to investigate whether the use of intravascular ultrasound guidance, as compared with angiography guidance, improves the outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention with contemporary drug-eluting stents in patients presenting with an acute coronary syndrome.

Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) for 12 months is the standard of care after coronary stenting in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The aim of this individual patient-level meta-analysis was to summarise the evidence comparing DAPT de-escalation to ticagrelor monotherapy versus continuing DAPT for 12 months after coronary drug-eluting stent implantation.

Excellent thermoelectric materials can be obtained by various synthesis procedures and optimization strategies, and the elaborately designed composition and microstructure benefit thermoelectric parameter decoupling. Herein, a high-performance mixed natural mineral (CQB), composed by chalcocite, quartz, and bismuthinite, enables direct thermoelectric energy conversion. The network of quartz layers is embedded into the matrix and blocks Cu ion long-range migration by producing the natural rheostat and voltage division circuit. The thermoelectric performance, mechanical strength, and electrical stability of natural minerals are found to be highly superior to the artificially synthesized Cu2S material. Learning from nature, a strategy for blocking mobile Cu+ions in Cu-based superionic conductors is proposed. Various Cu-based superionic conductors, composited with insulating macroscale glass sheets, have been designed and fabricated, showing highly enhanced electrical stability while maintaining good thermoelectric properties. These findings provide a deep understanding of the role of macroscopic insulating materials in improving the electrical stability of superionic conductors.

The room-temperature thermoelectric performance of materials underpins their thermoelectric cooling ability. Carrier mobility plays a significant role in the electronic transport property of materials, especially near room temperature, which can be optimized by proper composition control and growing crystals. Here, we grow Pb-compensated AgPb18+xSbTe20crystals using a vertical Bridgman method. A large weighted mobility of ∼410 cm2V–1s–1is achieved in the AgPb18.4SbTe20crystal, which is almost 4 times higher than that of the polycrystalline counterpart due to the elimination of grain boundaries and Ag-rich dislocations verified by atom probe tomography, highlighting the significant benefit of growing crystals for low-temperature thermoelectrics. Due to the largely promoted weighted mobility, we achieve a high power factor of ∼37.8 μW cm–1K–2and a large figure of merit ZTof ∼0.6 in AgPb18.4SbTe20crystal at 303 K. We further designed a 7-pair thermoelectric module using this n-type crystal and a commercial p-type (Bi, Sb)2Te3-based material. As a result, a high cooling temperature difference (ΔT) of ∼42.7 K and a power generation efficiency of ∼3.7% are achieved, revealing promising thermoelectric applications for PbTe-based materials near room temperature.

Tin selenide materials have attracted much attention due to the intrinsic low thermal conductivity. However, the further application of SnSe materials is limited due to the poor electrical conductivity. Herein, a two-step doping process is employed on p-type polycrystalline SnSe materials to enhance the thermoelectric properties. It is found that the Sn0·98Ag0.01Ga0.01Se sample achieves a high ZTvalue of 1.53 at 823 K and a quite competitive ZTavevalue of 1.04 from 673 to 823 K. This is attributed to the associations of point defects, AgSn′, GaSn·, and Ga0, and nano-precipitates, SnGa4Se7, Ag9GaSe6and AgGa1+δ. In those defects, AgSn′acts as an accepter, which can conduce to enhancing the hole carrier concentration. Ga element doping astonishingly play dual-roles, in that it both faultlessly maintains the electrical transport properties and effectively decreases the thermal conductivity through the associations with the point defects, GaSn·, and Ga0, and nano-precipitates, SnGa4Se7, Ag9GaSe6and AgGa1+δ. The method paves the way for achieving high thermoelectric properties in SnSe materials by the point defects engineering and nano-precipitates.

Bismuth telluride has become a widely commercially utilized thermoelectric material due to its exceptional properties. However, there remains space for further improvement in the properties of p-type Bi-Sb-Te thermoelectric materials obtained through the melting method. In this work, CsBr was employed to enhance the thermoelectric properties of Bi0.42Sb1.58Te3(BST) materials. The bulk materials of BST + xwt% CsBr (x= 0, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30) were fabricated using a combination of melting method and spark plasma sintering. Cs and Br co-doping could significantly increase the electrical conductivity of BST alloy, while reducing thermal conductivity, resulting in a maximum figure of merit (ZT) value of 1.2 at 323 K and an average ZTvalue of 1.1 below 400 K for x= 0.20 sample. Density functional theory and transmission electron microscopy analyses reveal that Cs doping effectively reduces the band gap, increases the density of states near the Fermi level, and flattens the energy band, resulting in the great enhancement of electrical transport properties (with a maximum power factor of approximately 3500 µ−1K−2). Furthermore, Cs doping causes Sb to dissociate from the lattice and combine with free oxygen to form nanoscale Sb2O3, which efficiently scatters mid-frequency phonons and reduces thermal conductivity while maintaining a high Seebeck coefficient. This study presents a novel approach to resolving the trade-off between electrical and thermal conductivity in thermoelectric materials by solely utilizing CsBr doping.

The effects of cooling rate and the adulteration of erbium (Er) on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of Zn-5Al alloys were investigated in this study. The results show that the Zn-5Al alloy is made up of the primary η-Zn phase and eutectic structure at a high cooling rate. As the cooling rate decreases, the corrosion current firstly increased and then decreased due to decrease of the primary η-Zn content , the appearance and grew of α-Al phase. Moreover, the addition of Er leads to the formation of Er-containing intermetallic compounds in the Zn-5Al alloy, reducing the size of the primary η-Zn and α-Al phase, decreasing the corrosion current density, and improving the density and compactness of the corrosion product.

To enhance the functionality of all-solid-state fiber-shaped electrode, high mass loading and well infiltration of gel electrolytes should be carefully addressed. Here, electrospinning glycerol-modified polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers (GPN) are attached to Ti wire as porous high mass loading fiber shaped aerogel like substrate, and Polyaniline:poly(styrenesulfonate)-carbon (PANI:PSS-carbon) ink is selected as active materials dispersion. PANI:PSS-carbon easily infiltrates into GPN@Ti and supports a hollow fiber-shaped electrode with micropores structure through a combination of dip-coating and freeze-drying processes. Thank to high mass loading pseudo-capacitive materials and well infiltrate channel for gel-electrolyte, the resulted PANI:PSS-carbon@GPN@Ti electrode shows a high specific length capacitance of 553.9 mF cm−1(2637.6 mF cm−2) in an all-solid-state fiber-shaped supercapacitor device, outperforming the majority of previously reported fiber-shaped electrodes. These features suggest promising potential for utilizing PANI:PSS-carbon@GPN@Ti electrode in solid-state energy storage devices. In addition, this simple strategy gives a new view for constructing high performance gel-electrolyte-friendly flexible electronic electrode.

In this paper, the effect of Er on the hot cracking behaviour of Al-5Cu alloy is investigated by the means of wedge moulds, differential hot analyzer, optical microscope, and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the percentage of intergranular low-melting-point eutectic structure is increased by approximately 8% on average per 0.3 wt-% Er additions. The increase of low-melting-point eutectic structure enhances the fluidity of the liquid film in the late solidification stage, resulting in the improvement of the hot cracking resistance of the alloy. Moreover, the Al-5Cu-0.6Er alloy has the best hot cracking resistance under wedge-shaped copper casting experiments.

The average zTdetermines the conversion efficiency, and the power factor plays an important role in average zTvalue. However, the inadequate electrical conductivity of SnSe materials seriously limits its application. Herein, the TaCl5-doped in polycrystalline SnSe0.95materials synthesized using the melting method and combined with spark plasma sintering technology achieves a zTvalue of 1.64 at 773 K and a record zTaveof 0.62 from 323 K to 773 K. The electrical conductivity increases due to the released electron carrier induced by effective TaCl5doping. According to the DFT calculation, the energy band of TaCl5-doped samples is narrowed, which can enhance the electron transport. Besides, the Seebeck coefficient is maintained at an elevated level as a result of the incorporation of the heavy element Ta. Due to the significantly enhanced electrical conductivity and maintained high Seebeck coefficient, the power factor reaches to 622 μW·m−1·K−2at 773 K for the SnSe0.95 + 1.75% (in mass) TaCl5sample, which is almost 21 times higher than that of the pristine sample. Simultaneously, a high average power factor value of 334 μW·m−1·K−2for the SnSe0.95 + 1.75% (in mass) TaCl5sample from 323 to 773 K was obtained. It is surprisingly found that the Ta element plays another important role to improve the stability of SnSe0.95by forming Ta2Sn3and removing the low melting point Sn, which usually existed in n-type SnSe samples, resulting in the decreased lattice thermal conductivity. A low lattice thermal conductivity value of 0.24 W·m−1·K−1was also obtained for the SnSe0.95 + 2.0% (in mass) TaCl5sample at 773 K due to the multiscale defects. Consequently, the SnSe0.95 + 2.0% (in mass) TaCl5sample obtains a peak zTvalue of 1.64 at 773 K and a record zTaveof 0.62 from 323 to 773 K, and the theoretically calculated conversion efficiency reaches 11.2%, it can be utilized for power generation and/or cooling at a broad temperature range. This strategy of introducing high-valence halides with heavy element can optimize the thermoelectric performance for other material systems.

• Se and Cl co-doped nanostructured Bi 2 S 3 powders were successfully synthesized via hydrothermal. • A high σ value of 483 S cm−1 is obtained at 300 K for the Bi 2 S 2.4 Se 0.4 Cl 0.20 sample. • A high PFave. of 411 μW m−1 K−2 is achieved for the Bi 2 S 2.4 Se 0.4 Cl 0.20. • The highest ZT value of 0.66 is achieved at 673 K for the Bi 2 S 2.4 Se 0.4 Cl 0.20 sample. Bi 2 S 3 -based alloys are considered promising thermoelectric materials due to their large Seebeck coefficient and low lattice thermal conductivity. However, low electrical conductivity usually leads to poor electrical transport properties, which seriously restricts their further application in thermoelectric refrigeration and/or power generation. In this work, Bi 2 S 3 with high electrical transport properties is synthesized hydrothermally via Se and Cl co-doping. The maximum electrical conductivity value of 483 S cm−1 was obtained for the Bi 2 S 2.4 Se 0.4 Cl 0.20 sample at room temperature. The significant improvement of electrical conductivity gives rise to a high average power factor of 411 μW m−1 K−2 during the measuring temperature range and a peak value of 456 μW m−1 K−2 at 673 K. Benefiting from the largely improved electrical transport properties, a superior ZT value of approximately 0.66 and ZT ave. of 0.36 were obtained for Bi 2 S 2.4 Se 0.4 Cl 0.20 , and the theoretically calculated conversion efficiency reached 5.7%. The results indicate that Bi 2 S 3 is a promising candidate for thermoelectric applications at medium temperatures. To achieve maximum usage and economically upgrade light cycle oil, it is necessary to separate light cycle oil components into nonaromatic and aromatic fractions. A deep eutectic solvent composed of tetrabutylphosphonium bromide and levulinic acid exhibited excellent extraction performance in separating light cycle oil components. In this work, the mechanisms of deep eutectic solvent formation and light cycle oil separation are investigated using characterization analysis and molecular dynamics simulations. Both Fourier-transform infrared spectra and molecular dynamics simulation results indicate that the main driving force for deep eutectic solvent formation is hydrogen-bonding interactions between the Br–anion of tetrabutylphosphonium bromide and the carboxyl group (−COOH) of levulinic acid. On the other hand, while the TBP+cation of tetrabutylphosphonium bromide and the carbonyl group (−C═O) of levulinic acid are less likely to contribute to deep eutectic solvent formation, they are more likely to interact with the aromatic ring of tetralin via CH−π and π–π interactions, respectively. The results suggest that each functional group of tetrabutylphosphonium bromide and levulinic acid plays an essential role either in deep eutectic solvent formation or in aromatic compound extraction, which provides insights into the mechanism of extractive separation of light cycle oil components using deep eutectic solvents.

Discovering high-performance near-room-temperature thermoelectric materials is extremely imperative to widen the practical application in thermoelectric power generation and refrigeration. Here, ternary Ag2Se1–xTex(x= 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5) materials are prepared via the wet-mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering process to investigate their near-room-temperature thermoelectric properties. From density functional theory calculation and single-parabolic-band modeling study, we found that the reduced contribution of Se 4p orbitals to the total density of states decreases the carrier effective mass with increasing Te content, which should enhance the theoretically maximum zT. These calculation results are also verified by the experimental results. Meanwhile, complex microstructures including dislocations, nanograins, high-density boundaries, TeSesubstitution, lattice distortions, and localized strain have been observed in ternary Ag2Se1–xTex. These complex microstructures strengthen phonon scattering and in turn lead to ultralow lattice thermal conductivity in the range of 0.21–0.31 W m–1K–1in ternary Ag2Se1–xTexat 300 K. Although the increased deformation potential suppresses the carrier mobility, benefiting from the engineered band structures and ultralow lattice thermal conductivity, a high zTof >1 can be potentially obtained in the ternary Ag2Se1–xTexwith appropriate carrier concentration. This study indicates that ternary Ag2Se1–xTexis a promising candidate for near-room-temperature thermoelectric applications.

The Zn, Cu, and Sc contents of 7xxx Al alloys were adjusted according to the chemical composition of a 7085 Al alloy, and the effects of Zn and Cu contents and Sc addition on the microstructures, hardness, and quench sensitivity of the 7xxx Al alloys were studied. The alloys with high Zn content and Sc addition exhibited higher hardness than the 7085 alloy at the position 3 mm away from the quenching end. The density of ηand Tphases increased with the increase in Zn and Cu contents, and the Sc addition led to the formation of the Yphase and more ηphases at the position 120 mm away from the quenching end. Compared with the 7085 alloy, the high Zn−high Cu and Sc-added alloys exhibited higher quench sensitivity, while the simultaneous increase in Zn content and decrease in Cu content could enhance the hardness and reduce the quench sensitivity of the 7085 alloy.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) on collagenous fibre formation and the osteogenic differentiation of human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) in vitro, as well as the effect of FGF-2–induced hAMSCs combined with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on tendon-to-bone healing in vivo.

Coastal ecosystems are vulnerable to plant invasion and expected sea level rise in China. This study explored the responses of microbial communities and extracellular enzyme activity in the marsh soils of native Phragmites australisand exotic Spartina alterniflorato waterlogging and increasing salinity (to mimic prolonged inundation and saltwater intrusion) based on the determination of phospholipid fatty acids and analysis of enzyme kinetics. The results showed that waterlogging and increased salinity treatments decreased the soil microbial biomass in both P. australisand S. alterniflorasoils, with waterlogging exacerbating the negative effects of salinity. Fungi/bacteria ratios decreased under both waterlogging and salinity treatments, whereas actinomycetes/bacteria ratios increased with increasing salinity. The degree of the adverse effects of salinity on plant growth of S. alternifloraand soil microbial biomass was lower than that on P. australis. Generally, waterlogging treatment increased the activity of sucrase, cellulase, urease, and dehydrogenase in S. alterniflorasoil. Increased salinity decreased all the assayed extracellular enzyme activity in both P. australisand S. alterniflorasoils. The synergistic effects of waterlogging and increased salinity treatments on the enzyme activities in P. australissoil were significant, whereas only the effect on the cellulase activity was significant in S. alterniflorasoil. This study indicated a greater ability of the microbial community and extracellular enzyme activity of S. alterniflorasoil to adapt to waterlogging and increased salinity compared with those of P. australissoil due to the lower sensitivity of S. alternifloragrowth and soil nutrients to stress.

Electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction (CO2RR) technology enables the conversion of excessive CO2into high-value fuels and chemicals, thereby mitigating atmospheric CO2concentrations and addressing energy scarcity. Single-atom alloys (SAAs) possess the potential to enhance the CO2RR performance by full utilization of atoms and breaking linear scaling relationships. However, quickly screening high-performance metal portfolios of SAAs remains a formidable challenge. In this study, we proposed an active learning (AL) framework to screen high-performance catalysts for CO2RR to yield fuels such as CH4and CH3OH. After four rounds of AL iterations, the ML model attained optimal prediction performance with the test set R2of approximately 0.94 and successful prediction was achieved for the binding free energy of *CHO, *COH, *CO, and *H on 380 catalyst surfaces with an accuracy within 0.20 eV. Subsequent analysis of the SAA catalysts’ activity, selectivity, and stability led to the discovery of eight previously unexplored SAA catalysts for CO2RR. Notably, the surface activity of Ti@Cu(100), Au@Pt(100), and Ag@Pt(100) shines prominently. Utilizing DFT calculations, we elucidated the complete reaction pathway of the CO2RR on the surfaces of these catalysts, confirming their high catalytic activity with limiting potentials of −0.11, −0.34, and −0.46 eV, respectively, which are significantly lower than those of pure Cu catalysts. The results showcase the exceptional predictive prowess of AL, providing a valuable reference for the design of CO2RR catalysts.

Ammonia synthesis is the single most important chemical process in industry, which has been using the most successful heterogeneous Haber-Bosch catalyst over 100 years and processed under both high temperature (300 to 500 °C) and pressure (200 to 300 atm), and thus has huge energy cost accounting for about 1 to 3 % of all the human being’s energy consumption. Therefore, there has been a long and vigorous exploration to find a milder alternative process. Here we demonstrate that using an iron and graphene based catalyst, Fe@3DGraphene, hot (ejected) electrons from this composite catalyst induced by visible light in wide range of wavelength up to red, could efficiently facilitate the activation of N2 and generate ammonia with H2 directly at ambient pressure using light (including simulated sun light) illumination directly. No external voltage or electrochemical or any other agent is needed. The production rate increases with increasing light frequency under the same power and with increasing power under the same frequency. The mechanism is confirmed by the detection of the intermediate N2H4 and also with a measured apparent activation energy only ~1/4 of the iron based Haber-Bosch catalyst. Combined with the morphology control using alumina as the structural promoter, the catalyst retains its activity in a 50-hour test.

A catalyst system consisting of a chiral phosphoramidite ligand and Pd2(dba)3·CHCl3causes the decarboxylation of 5-vinyloxazolidine-2,4-diones to generate amide-containing aza-π-allylpalladium 1,3-dipole intermediates, which are capable of triggering the dearomatization of 3-nitroindoles for diastereo- and enantioselective [3+2] cycloaddition, leading to the formation of a series of highly functionalized pyrroloindolines containing three contiguous stereogenic centers with excellent results (up to 99% yield, 88:12 dr, and 96% ee).

BiSe with intrinsic low thermal conductivity has considered as a promising thermoelectric (TE) material at nearly room temperature. To improve its low thermoelectric figure of merit (zT), in this work, Sb and Te isovalent co-alloying was performed and significantly optimized its TE property with weakly anisotropic characteristic. After substituting Sb on Bi sites, the carrier concentration is suppressed by introduction of SbSe site defects, which contributes to the increased absolute value of Seebeck coefficient (|S|). Further co-alloying Te on Se of the optimized composition Bi0.7Sb0.3Se, the carrier concentration increased without affecting the |S| due to the enhanced effective mass, which leads to a highest power factor of 12.8 μW/(cm·K2) at 423 K. As a result, a maximum zTof ∼0.54 is achieved for Bi0.7Sb0.3Se0.7Te0.3along the pressing direction and the average zT(zTave) (from 300 K to 623 K) are drastically improved from 0.24 for pristine BiSe sample to 0.45. Moreover, an energy conversion efficiency ∼4.0% is achieved for a single leg TE device of Bi0.7Sb0.3Se0.7Te0.3when applied the temperature difference of 339 K, indicating the potential TE application.

The practical application of thermoelectric devices requires both high-performance n-type and p-type materials of the same system to avoid possible mismatches and improve device reliability. Currently, environmentally friendly SnTe thermoelectrics have witnessed extensive efforts to develop promising p-type transport, making it rather urgent to investigate the n-type counterparts with comparable performance. Herein, we develop a stepwise optimization strategy for improving the transport properties of n-type SnTe. First, we improve the n-type dopability of SnTe by PbSe alloying to narrow the band gap and obtain n-type transport in SnTe with halogen doping over the whole temperature range. Then, we introduce additional Pb atoms to compensate for the cationic vacancies in the SnTe–PbSe matrix, further enhancing the electron carrier concentration and electrical performance. Resultantly, the high-ranged thermoelectric performance of n-type SnTe is substantially optimized, achieving a peak ZTof ∼0.75 at 573 K with a high average ZT(ZTave) exceeding 0.5 from 300 to 823 K in the (SnTe0.98I0.02)0.6(Pb1.06Se)0.4sample. Moreover, based on the performance optimization on n-type SnTe, for the first time, we fabricate an all-SnTe-based seven-pair thermoelectric device. This device can produce a maximum output power of ∼0.2 W and a conversion efficiency of ∼2.7% under a temperature difference of 350 K, demonstrating an important breakthrough for all-SnTe-based thermoelectric devices. Our research further illustrates the effectiveness and application potential of the environmentally friendly SnTe thermoelectrics for mid-temperature power generation.
