Highly purified HindIII restriction fragments of Xenopus laevis 5S DNA and of Psammechinus miliaris histone DNA have been covalently inserted into a derivative of phage λ. This phage, genetically constructed by Murray et al. (1), contains only a single target for HindIII in the cI gene. Viable hybrid molecules were detected as clear plaque-forming phage after transfection of E.coli, the vast majority of which were shown by hybridization to be recombinants of the desired type. The λSam7 mutation has been introduced into one hybrid phage containing histone DNA, thereby substantially increasing the yield of recombinant DNA.

Automobiles manufacturerMitsubishi Corp.'s automobile Eclipse marks the latest edition of a car that began as a joint venture with Chrysler Corp. The automobile is built in Normal, Illinois, alongside the nearly identical Eagle Talon. But while both cars are essentially Mitsubishis, both get their base engines and transaxles from Chrysler. Eclipse is 1.6 in. wider and 0.4 in. lower. Moving the windshield nearly 6 in. forward also stretched the passenger area. While rear seating and cargo space are a bit tighter, the driver and front passenger benefit from added legroom, higher seats and better visibility. Mitsubishi offers four versions of the Eclipse. Dual airbags and adjustable shoulder harnesses are provided inside both cars. The bucket seats are deep and supportive. Gauges are easier to read and grouped within the driver's line of sight, and the new dash has lost its grainy, elephant-hide finish.
