Aim: The aim of this study is to explore, through a comprehensive analysis of experimental and survey data, how foreign language students utilize YouTube's storytelling features to enhance their reading and writing skills. Specifically, the study investigates the strategic potential of YouTube's storytelling components in improving the reading and writing proficiency of foreign language undergraduates, who were divided into control and experimental groups. Methods: A total of 48 undergraduates participated in the experiment, while 91 undergraduates took part in the survey. Initial findings from the pre-test indicated comparable performance levels on reading and writing tests between the two groups before the integration of YouTube visual storytelling into the curriculum. Following the trial, identical achievement tests were administered to both groups four days later to assess any differences in their utilization of YouTube technology. Subsequently, the average post-test scores of the groups were compared using a t-test for independent samples. Results: The results of the post-test revealed significant differences in total test scores, with the experimental group exhibiting notably higher performance levels compared to the control group at a significance level of 0.05. Conclusion: This underscores the positive impact of teaching reading and writing through YouTube on foreign language students' academic performance. Furthermore, the survey findings indicated that participants strongly believed that these tools contributed to enhancing their proficiency in reading and writing in a foreign language. The issue related to the quality of the employees in tourism is one of the most significant factors for the certification of the places in the SPA and Wellness industry. The efficiency and benefits from the provided products depend to a great extent on the knowledge and skills of the people working in this sphere. The increasing requirements for the language competence of the specialists in SPA and Wellness predetermine the necessity of designing a modern model for building professional foreign language competence. The aim of this study is to suggest some contemporary approaches to improving the language preparation in English and Russian of employees working in the field of SPA and Wellness services. The suggested foreign language model is aimed at creating practical habits for using English and Russian language and developing some basic communicative competence needed for professional realization. The model of education meets both linguistic and methodological guidelines and the peculiar requirements for professionally oriented training in a foreign language for specific purposes. The paper aims to identify how social networks contribute to training the intercultural dimension of foreign languages at higher educational institutions. We attempted to answer the questions of what effect the use of social networks has on foreign language training, fostering intercultural and occupational skills, and how both students and teachers perceive the intervention. To achieve research goals, we used quantitative tools, such as (1) checklists, (2) assessment records on English for Specific Purposes, (3) the cultural intelligence scale, (4) the multidimensional emotional empathy scale, and (5) the questionnaire for reflective thinking. Qualitative data were drawn from the observations and interviews. The research findings confirmed that the use of social networks provided students with a true-to-life (authentic) environment and context to gain cultural experience and train a foreign language. This strategy boosts English for Specific Purposes learning and teaching experiences using a distance-learning component. The purpose of the study is to analyze the prospects for the widespread use of mobile applications in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in Russia to Russian and Arab learners. The survey was conducted at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Engineering Academy of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (EA PFUR). The total research sample included 200 participants and consisted of 50 potential employers, 50 Russian and Arab PFUR linguistics students, 50 faculty members, namely, teachers of PFUR, the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, as well as 50 PFUR administrative staff members. The purpose of the survey was to collect information about mobile applications (Smartphone Apps) and the introduction of mobile learning technology (m-learning) in the process of teaching EFL to students. According to the survey results, instructors actively use mobile technologies in their professional activities, and all participants in the learning process are receptive to their introduction to education. At the same time, respondents believe that technical challenges are the major obstacle to adopting mobile applications; these problems must be overcome to enable more productive use of mobile applications. In increasingly globalised and linguistically diverse societies, cross-language constellations in qualitative research are becoming more probable and necessary. Based on experiences we gained during our research in foreign language settings, we reflect on three guiding principles of qualitative research—openness, reflexivity and pragmatism—and how they are applied when dealing with the manifold challenges of linguistic understanding. Taking up ongoing discussions about this issue, we provide an account of a reflexive methodology aware of its preconditions and limitations. We argue in favour of a confident approach towards language difficulties and point out that qualitative research has always demanded the chosen methods to be flexible enough to adjust to challenges in the field. The current development in mobile learning has seen an unprecedented rise in the last decade and, moreover, the present pandemic situation has speeded up the process of eLearning implementation even in areas that were still rather reluctant in this respect. The paper attempts to provide the results and analysis of the subjective satisfaction of the users of these foreign language learning apps. Qualitative research was conducted at the Faculty of Informatics and Management of the University of Hradec Kralove, the Czech Republic, as a qualitative study through a set of guided interviews with students/users. The respondents (n=18) were the students of information science and data science of the university; therefore, their opinion can prove to be very useful as they are well informed and they also represented the youngest generation, i.e. Millennials, who may have rather different needs from the previous generations, and these needs are, naturally, reflected in their use of technology. The tested apps belong to the most popular and most downloaded free apps for foreign language learning currently available in the iOS and Android markets. The findings of the research clearly show that the main concern of the users of the apps was the lack of AI utilization and old-fashioned interface of the apps despite the fact that they are relatively new. Another major concern was the old-fashioned design, and regarding human-computer interaction in these apps, the lack of machine learning and deep learning strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Foreign language learning has been disrupted by declining enrollments, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the benefits of languages are well known, few US students study another language. Beyond the decline in enrollment and lack of qualified language teachers, issues facing languages in US colleges and universities include the crisis in the humanities, the curriculum, and online learning. In a globalized world, the need for international education is evident. Advocacy is needed, including K-16 and interdisciplinary collaborations, to rebuild the number of foreign language learners so that there will be a sufficient number of students with the interests and skills to pursue pre-professional language studies at the postsecondary level. A national language policy would encourage language learning and reduce divisions within our increasingly multilingual society. The leadership role of faculty in making the case for languages, developing interdisciplinary and K-16 partnerships, supporting access to foreign language learning for all interested students from the earliest grade levels, and expanding the postsecondary foreign language curriculum to include multiple career pathways, is essential. In this article we want to show that both the University from Cluj and the Commercial Academy from Cluj provided students with a real basis for acquiring foreign language knowledge in a fundamental and advanced shape. We can assert that in 1919, for the first time in Transylvania, a higher education institution in Romania started to function, which is why we can consider without hesitation that the Romanian University from Cluj was created exclusively due to the Great Union and the inclusion of Transylvania in the Romanian Kingdom. The contributions made by Professor Sextil Pu.cariu to reorganizing and re-establishing the University of Cluj are complemented by those made by former rectors with scientific and educational activity in the fields of literature, Romanian language and culture, such as: Nicolae Banescu, Gheorghe Bogdan- Duica, Nicolae Draganu, Emil Petrovici and Ion Vlad. Another dimension we wish to approach is the leadership of the Academy of Commercial and Industrial Studies from Cluj/Bra.ov in connection with knowledge and reputation acquired in the linguistic sphere. What languages are students learning in schools across Europe and at what age do they begin to study their first and second foreign languages? What level of language proficiency are students expected to reach by the end of compulsory education? How are the language skills of newly arrived migrants assessed and what types of language support are available to them? THIS RESEARCH ATTEMPTS BOTH AT ANALYZING THE FORMS OF BILINGUALITY SPECIFIC TO THE STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF PETROSANI, AND COMPARING THE STUDENTS’ POSSESSION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES WITH THEIR PARENTS’ POSSESSION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES, AND AT IDENTIFYING THE STUDENTS’ EXPECTATIONS THAT CONCERN THE STUDY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES. A NUMBER OF 115 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE RESEARCH AND THEY WERE REQUIRED TO ANSWER A QUESTIONNAIRE, WHICH REVEALED THAT 86.95% OF THE STUDENTS POSSESS ONE FOREIGN LANGUAGE, AT LEAST, SO THAT THEY CAN BE CONSIDERED AS BILINGUAL. IN THE CASE OF THE BILINGUAL STUDENTS, 83% OF THEM DISPLAY A DOMINANT, ARTIFICIAL (EDUCATIONAL) BILINGUALITY. IN THE CASE OF THE OTHER STUDENTS, BILINGUALITY IS BALANCED, NATURAL. The article presents a comparative analysis of the results of the state matriculation examination in foreign language in 12th grade in the school year 2014/2015 and 2013/2014 in the region of Sliven.
