Aims: To assess diabetic patients' knowledge and practices regarding foot care.Methods: This study was conducted as a cross-sectional study in 1030 patients between November 2017 and February 2018.The descriptive survey instrument was developed by the investigators. Survey content and format were based on prior surveys and guidelines. The survey sought socio-demographic characteristics of the patients and the level of knowledge about diabetic foot care practice.Results: 29.5% of patients had bad foot care, 49.6% of patients had moderate foot care and 20.8% of patients had good foot care. There were no significant differences between patient groups in regard to age, gender, foot infection history and having undergone amputation surgery. We found that patients who good at foot care had higher education status (p<0.001), were more likely live in a city (p<0.001), had higher income (p<0.001), had been trained about foot care (p<0.001) and were more likely to have type I DM (p=0.015). Disease duration was longer in those who had good foot care compared to the other groups (p=0.010).Conclusions: The mean knowledge and practice scores of our patients were moderate, indicating that much is to be done for the education of patients on this matter. We also found that knowledge about the importance of this practice, education status and disease duration had significant influence on the practice of foot-care in patients with DM. Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between postpartum depression (PPD), infantile colic (IC) and different psychosocial variables, psychiatric symptoms, attachment style and perceived social support in expectant parents. Method: Two hundred forty-five expectant mothers and 150 expectant fathers were first interviewed between 22 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. Each expectant parent filled out a sociodemographic data form, Adult Attachment Style Scale (AASS), State Anxiety Inventory (SAI), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI. A second interview was conducted between 4 and 24 weeks postpartum. The mothers filled out a data form consisting of health, nutrition, sleep, and crying problems of the infant, as well as EPDS and SAI, while fathers filled out SAI. Results: One in every four mothers had PPD symptoms above the threshold on EPDS. Maternal and paternal insecure attachment style, maternal psychiatric symptoms, and postpartum anxiety level were found to be the predictors of PPD. One of every five infants had IC, and maternal education level, hostility score, and PPD symptoms, along with paternal insecure attachment style and psychiatric symptoms, were the main predictors of IC. Conclusion: Results about PPD and IC regarding maternal variables are consistent with the literature. In addition, paternal insecure attachment style was found to be an important risk factor for both PPD and IC. Fathers should also be included in further studies exploring PPD or IC. Summary: Objectives: This study described the clinical features, factors affecting the outcome of this disease, risk factors, and efficacy of ribavirin therapy for CCHF patients in Eastern Turkey. Methods: Between 2002 and 2004, 60 cases admitted to our hospital were included in this study. The diagnosis was confirmed through detection of IgM by ELISA and/or genomic segment of virus by RT-PCR. Results: In multivariate analysis, farming (OR, 11.4), living in a rural area (OR, 10.05) and being bitten by tick (OR, 6.75) were determined as risk factors for CCHF. The rates of fever during hospitalization, confusion, neck stiffness, bleeding from multiple sites, and presence of petechia/ecchymosis were higher in the patients who died than in surviving ones. Additionally, the mean values of ALT, AST, LHD, CK, PTT, INR and urea were also higher, and the mean PLT count was lower in the patients who died. Mean recovery time was shorter in the cases treated with ribavirin than those of control. But, the need for blood and blood product, mean hospitalization duration, fatality rates, and hospital expenditure values were not significantly different between the group of patients treated with ribavirin and control groups. Conclusions: In Eastern Turkey, clinical features, factors influencing outcome of the disease, and risk factors were similar to other outbreaks of CCHF. Further studies are needed for the evaluation of ribavirin therapy in CCHF. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
