Chromyl fluoride provides a nonconducting solution in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride with Raman spectroscopic features indistinguishable from those of the solute in the gas phase, indicating no fluoride or proton transfer in solution. With increasing acidity in the SbF5–HF solvent system, CrO2F2forms cationic species, the nature of which is discussed. The acidity-dependence of cationic speciation in HF–TaF5and in HF–AsF5is consistent with that in HF–SbF5. The interaction of Eu3+ and tributylphosphate in the montmorillonite clay SAZ1 has been investigated by NMR spectroscopy. The 13C-NMR spectrum of TBP sorbed onto SAZ1 partially exchanged with Eu3+ shows two sets of four peaks differing by 2-3ppm. Longitudinal relaxation times for 13C -TBP sorbed to SAZ1 and Eu3+-SAZ1 (as D2O slurries) are ˙9s and 4s, respectively. The T1's determined by 13C-CPMAS on the solid samples are 24s and ˙28s, respectively. Linewidths of the CPMAS spectra of 13C-TBP sorbed to SAZ1 and Eu3+-SAZ1 are 204 Hz and 305 Hz.

Lactate, pyruvate, and glucose were determined in groups of 10 patients, each receiving single drug therapy for their seizure disorder with either phenytoin, valproic acid, carbamazepine, or phenobarbital, and in patients not taking medication. All drug levels were in their therapeutic ranges. The characteristics of the groups were similar, except for the phenytoin group being significantly older. No significant differences were found in glucose or pyruvate concentrations. However, patients on valproic acid had reduced lactate (p< 0.05) and L/P ratios (p< 0.05). The reduction in lactate in patients on valproate therapy may mask inborn errors of metabolism that normally result in an increase in blood lactate levels.
