OBJECTIVE: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major global cause of death, greatly affecting life expectancy and quality of life for populations. With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), there is new hope for accurately managing CAD. While recent studies have shown remarkable progress in AI and CAD research, there is a gap in comprehensive bibliometric analysis in this field. Therefore, this study aims to provide a thorough analysis of trends and hotspots in AI and CAD-related research utilizing bibliometrics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Publications on AI and CAD relevant research from 2009 to 2023 were searched through the WoS core database (WoSCC). CiteSpace, VOSviewer and Excel 365 were used to conduct the bibliometric analysis. RESULTS: The bibliometric analysis included 1,248 publications, indicating a steady increase in AI and CAD-related publications annually. The United States of America (USA), China, and Germany were identified as the most influential countries in this field. Research institutions such as Cedars Sinai Med Ctr, Med Univ South Carolina, Harvard Med Sch and Capital Med Univ were the main contributors to research production. FRONT CARDIOVASC MED is the top-ranked journal, while J AM COLL CARDIOL emerged as the most cited journal. Schoepf, U. Joseph, Slomka, Piotr J., Berman, Daniel S. and Dey, Damini were the most prolific authors, while U. Rajendra Acharya was the most frequently co-cited author. Research related to the AI calculation of coronary flow reserve fraction and coronary artery calcification, based on coronary CT to identify CAD and cardiovascular risk, was a key research topic in this field. The potential link between cardiovascular risk stratification and radiomics is currently at the forefront of the field. CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first to use a bibliometric approach to visualize and analyze AI and CAD-related research. OBJECTIVE: Brain development is susceptible to external influences during the gestation period so the neurotoxicity of anesthetics has gained a lot of attention. We aimed to investigate the neurotoxicity of sevoflurane to fetal mice brain as well as the neuroprotective effects of dexmedetomidine. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pregnant mice were treated with 2.5% sevoflurane for 6 hours. The changes in fetal brain development were assayed with immunofluorescence and western blot. The pregnant mice were intraperitoneally injected with dexmedetomidine or vehicle from gestation day (G) 12.5 to G15.5. RESULTS: Our results showed maternal sevoflurane exposure could not only inhibit neurogenesis but also lead to precocious generation of astrocytes in fetal mice brains. The fetal mice brain of sevoflurane group exhibited a significant inhibition in the activity of Wnt signaling and the expression of CyclinD1, Ngn2. Chronic dexmedetomidine administration could minimize the negative effects caused by sevoflurane by activating the Wnt signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS: This study has uncovered a Wnt signaling-related mechanism of the neurotoxicity of sevoflurane and confirmed the neuroprotective effect of dexmedetomidine, which could provide pre-clinical evidence for clinical decision-making. The authors describe district-specific disability-adjusted life-year (DALY) of lung cancer attributable to ambient particulate matter < 2.5 um in diameter (PM2.5) for Guangzhou city in China, so as to help prioritizing environmental health action from geospatial perspective. Comparative risk assessment and satellite-derived PM2.5 concentrations were used to investigate the spatial-temporal distribution of DALY attributable to ambient PM2.5 for lung cancer. Integrated exposure-response model and kriging model were constructed based on estimated relative risk (RR) from risk assessment. Annual mean PM2.5 increased by 25.9% from 2010 (71.1 ug/m3) to 2013 (89.5 ug/m3). Estimated RRs ranged from 1.37 (95% uncertainty interval [UI]: 1.04 ~ 1.86) to 1.99 (95% UI: 1.12 ~ 3.19) among the districts. For lung cancer, DALY attributable to PM2.5 increased by 26.8% from 2010 to 2013, reaching 43352.7 DALYs (95% UI: 8157.9 ~ 62371.7) in 2013. The paper showed that population residing in highly-polluted and aged districts might suffer a higher relative risk for developing lung cancer. Our validated analysis framework also showed that population suffered from a higher loss of lung cancer DALYs, partly due to the higher PM2.5 exposure in some subareas within the city. We reveal that ambient PM2.5 pollution contributed substantially to lung cancer burden, both locally and sub-locally. OBJECTIVE: An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a potentially fatal disease associated with a high risk of rupture. AAA is pathologically distinguished by atherosclerotic thrombosis, immune cell infiltration, smooth muscle cell apoptosis, and extracellular matrix degradation. Given that there are no effective target treatments, once ruptured, AAA leads to high mortality with few long-term survivors. The goal of this study is to identify novel key pathways and hub genes involved in AAA formation with the aim of providing promising therapeutic targets for AAA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The transcriptome sequencing matrix of GSE47472 and GSE57691 were obtained from the GEO database. These datasets were further merged for differential expression analysis, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and functional enrichment analysis in R (v4.0.2). A co-expression network was constructed with Cytoscape (v3.8.0) to generate the top 30 hub genes. Hub Genes with high clinical traits and potential values were further verified using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and qPCR analysis. RESULTS: A total of 745 differentially expressed genes were screened and 14 gene co-expression modules were established. Among these 14 modules, pink modules with a total of 118 genes showed the strongest correlation with AAA pathogenesis. Subsequently, 78 genes associated with a highly relevant clinical trait and the top 30 hub genes were intersected to generate 22 genes. Gene ontology functional enrichment analysis of the 22 genes revealed abnormal expression of genes relating to cell-matrix adhesion and integrin-mediated signaling pathway. LAMA5, ITGA8, ITGA1, and FERMT2 were associated with the integrin-mediated signaling pathway and cell-matrix adhesion while ACTN1 and CX3CL1 were simply associated with the latter. Low expressions of LAMA5, ACTN1, ITGA8, ITGA1, and FERMT2 were further verified through qPCR in a mouse model of AAA. CONCLUSIONS: Low expression of partial genes in the integrin signaling pathway was implicated in the function loss of mediated cell-matrix adhesion, which may offer novel targets for therapeutic intervention against AAA. The interception of exotic ants and termites from stone and lumber imported into Korea is on the rise, including Solenopsis invicta. Currently, a relatively long exposure (24 h) of methyl bromide (MB) fumigation is the only practical disinfestation option for exotic ants and termites on imported stone and lumber. In this study, ethyl formate (EF) wase evaluated as a potential MB alternative to disinfest ants and termites in imported lumber, with a focus on S. invicta. As S. invicta is not established in Korea, we first determined whether Reticulitermes speratus , established in Korea, could be considered as an EF surrogate of S. invicta. From 1 h EF fumigation trials, workers of S. invicta were more sensitive to EF than those of R. speratus based on lethal concentration × time causing 99% mortality (LCt 99%), supporting that R. speratus can be used as an EF surrogate of S. invicta. When R. speratus workers were further fumigated with EF for 4 h at four different temperatures, LCt 99% values for R. speratus workers were 108.00, 63.31, 77.24, and 67.24 g h/m3 at 2, 5, 13, and 23 °C, respectively. From scale-up (0.65 m3) and commercial scale (76.4 m3) trials containing two infestation-prone lumber species, lauan (Shorea spp.) and acacia (Acacia spp.), 140 g/m3 EF at >5 °C for 4 h resulted in the complete control of R. speratus workers, suggesting that 140 g/m3 4 h-EF-fumigation may be applicable as a potential MB-alternative treatment for disinfestation of invasive S. invicta on imported lumber. OBJECTIVE: MiR-466 has been reported to exert a tumor-suppressive role in several cancers, including colorectal cancer and osteosarcoma, but its clinical significance and functional mechanisms in breast cancer (BC) pathogenesis still remain elusive. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The expression of miR-466 was determined using reverse transcription quantitative PCR. The clinical significance of miR-466 in BC patients was assessed by Chi-square test, Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analyses. Functional experiments, including CCK-8 and transwell assays, were performed to analyze cell proliferation, migration and invasion ability. The association between miR-466 and proteasome subunit α7 (PSMA7) was confirmed by Luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: Here, we first observed that the expression of miR-466 was significantly downregulated in BC tissues and cell lines. The decreased miR-466 expression was significantly associated with tumor size (p = 0.003), lymph node metastasis (p = 0.008), TNM stage (p = 0.032) and poor survival rate. In addition, miR-466 was identified as an independent prognostic factor for BC patients. We further found that the overexpression of miR-466 significantly inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Mechanistically, PSMA7 was a potential target gene of miR-466 and negatively regulated miR-466 in BC cells. Oncomine database and Kaplan-Meier overall survival analysis indicated that upregulation of PSMA7 was associated with poor prognosis of BC patients. The rescue experiments demonstrated that PSMA7 overexpression reversed the effects of miR-466 on cell proliferation, migration, invasion and EMT transcription factors (E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and vimentin). [Display omitted] • We quantified attraction of Zeugodacus cucurbitae to induced host-plant volatiles. • Female age and type of olfactory cues influenced Zeugodacus cucurbitae behavior. • Induced volatiles involved in Zeugodacus cucurbitae attraction are short-lived. In many insect species including fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae), the behavioral responses to volatiles emitted by their host plants can be modulated by environmental conditions and by the physiological state of the insect. Here, we quantified (1) the effects of female age on the attraction of female melon fly, Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Diptera: Tephritidae) to volatiles emitted by intact and mechanically damaged tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), eggplant (S. melongena), zucchini (Cucurbita pepo), bitter melon (Momordica charantia), and cucumber (Cucumis sativus) fruit, and (2) the influence of time elapsed since fruit damage on the outcome. The investigations were conducted under semi-natural conditions in Hawai'i. Results from the first experiment revealed that, for freshly damaged tomato, eggplant, and zucchini, the level of female response was comparatively low and was not affected by female age. For bitter melon and cucumber, higher levels of response to freshly damaged fruit were documented, and the response levels gradually increased as female age increased from 1 to 4 weeks, reaching 70% for 4-week-old females exposed to cucumber odor. Results from our second experiment indicated that, on average, 56% of the females released responded in 20 min when cucumbers were freshly sliced, and the level of response was reduced 6-fold within a couple of hours. Females did not respond to tomato and cucumber odor when fruits were damaged >8 h before testing. Fruit volatiles involved in female Z. cucurbitae attraction seem to be released shortly upon mechanical damage and they are short-lived. The plasticity of the olfaction-driven behavior observed in Z. cucurbitae depending on female age and on the strength of the olfactory cues associated with preferred and less preferred hosts, adds another dimension to our understanding of the host-seeking behavior of this invasive species. Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae) is a serious pest of soybean and sweet persimmon and uses male produced aggregation pheromone, (E)-2-hexenyl (Z)-3-hexenoate, (E)-2-hexenyl (E)-2-hexenoate, and tetradecyl isobutyrate to facilitate food location and recognition by conspecifics. Using electroantennogram (EAG) and greenhouse bioassay, we determined which antennal segment is involved in the detection of their aggregation pheromone. In the first EAG test using individual antennal segments, significant EAG responses to 1:1:1 mixture of the aggregation pheromone were observed only from the disti-flagellum segments of both male and female antennae at both pheromone doses tested (1 µg and 100 µg). In the following EAG tests using gradually removed antennal segment(s), EAG response was still maintained when the distal half of a disti-flagellum was surgically removed, while EAG response was lost when whole segment of disti-flagellum or other whole segments were gradually removed from intact antenna of both sexes. In greenhouse experiment, removing one or both segment(s) of disti-flagellum from male or female antennae resulted in significant reduction in their attraction to the aggregation pheromone. Spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae), is a serious invasive pest of berries and cherries in the U.S. and Europe and has become a major phytosanitary trade barrier. In this pilot study, we explored the potential of using stand-alone ethyl formate (EF) treatment and a combinatory treatment of EF and cold temperature as postharvest control options for D. suzukii in imported blueberries. Stand-alone EF fumigations were effective against D. suzukii with LCt 99% of 207.7 and 168.5 g·h·m−3 for eggs, the most tolerant life stage, at 5 and 21 °C, respectively. In a scale-up (10 m3) trial conducted at 5 °C, complete control of D. suzukii eggs placed inside and outside of blueberry boxes was achieved using 70 g·m−3 EF for 4 h with 5% blueberry loading ratio without deleterious impact on blueberry appearance such as soft spot or berry shrivel. In small scale pilot studies, 9-d stand-alone cold treatment at 5 °C was sufficient for complete control of D. suzukii eggs and larvae tested, but not pupae. The efficacy of this cold treatment appeared to be improved when D. suzukii eggs were first treated with low-dose EF (LCt 50% level) prior to the cold treatment. The combination treatment resulted in complete mortality of D. suzukii eggs, larvae, and pupae tested after 7, 5, and 9 d of cold treatment, respectively. Together, these results suggest that stand-alone EF treatment, or the combination treatment of low-dose EF and cold as a systems approach may have a potential as postharvest treatments for D. suzukii in blueberries. OBJECTIVE: Endovascular treatment (EVT) has been demonstrated superior to pharmacological thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) induced by extracranial internal carotid artery occlusion. This paper aims to summarize clinical evidence about EVT and assess its efficacy and safety on acute extracranial carotid occlusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We systematically reviewed all studies that reported endovascular therapy as carotid stenting, stent retriever, aspiration, and angioplasty for acute extracranial carotid occlusion. Literature retrieval was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane library, dated from January 1st, 2005 to December 31st, 2020. The primary endpoint was a favorable outcome rate. Major secondary endpoints were SICH incidence, 90-day mortality rate, and complications. Meta-analysis and subgroup analysis were conducted to identify predictors for prognosis. This systematic review has been registered in PROSPERO (CRD42020181154) on July 18, 2020. RESULTS: 10 studies with 620 patients were included in total. Endovascular approach presented a favorable outcome rate of 0.47 (0.37, 0.56), an acceptable 90-day mortality rate of 0.16 (0.13, 0.19), and a mild SICH rate of 0.07 (0.05, 0.10). Age and NIHSS at admission were negatively associated with favorable outcome, with odds ratio of 0.95 (0.92, 0.98) and 0.74 (0.62, 0.88) respectively. Lower age (p=0.049) and aspiration thrombectomy (p=0.041) predicted less SICH events. In subgroup in which time window > 6 hours, endovascular therapy presented similar encouraging results, with favorable outcome rate of 0.59 (0.51, 0.66), 90-day mortality rate of 0.11 (0.07, 0.17), and SICH rate of 0.04 (0.02, 0.09). CONCLUSIONS: EVT can effectively improve neurological function and reduce 90-day mortality for acute extracranial carotid occlusion patients without increasing the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage. Subjective beliefs in the personality of a dog based on its breed may result in misinterpretation or scientific bias. Because it has been proven that breed can influence the dog's personality, it is important to determine other genetic factors influencing canine behaviors. The present study investigated behavioral differences of the Jindo dogs based on sex. Thirty-three adult Jindo dogs (21 males and 12 females) were tested in 9 different behavioral subtests, and their behavioral responses to the subtests were recorded using two video cameras. A single blinded observer reviewed the videos and scored the dogs' behaviors from 1-5 based on: sociability, fear, aggression, and submission behaviors. Using the score data, a principal component analysis extracted primary factors: "defensive reactivity toward strangers and novel stimuli," "nonaggressive reactivity toward a dog and humans," "social reactivity toward friendly humans and novel stimuli," "offensive reactivity toward fear evoking humans and novel stimuli," "social reactivity toward fear evoking humans," and "nonaggressive and social reactivity toward testing stimuli." The male and female dogs were compared for the extracted six factors using multivariate analysis of variance. Based on the results, the female Jindo dogs, in contrast to the male dogs, exhibited significantly higher intensity of "nonaggressive reactivity to stranger and novel stimuli." The results of this study could provide objective information for researchers of canine behavior and supplement baseline data on the Jindo breed.
