Spectral unmixing has been extensively studied with a variety of methods and is used in many applications. Recently, data-driven techniques with deep learning methods have obtained great attention to spectral unmixing for its superior learning ability to automatically learn the structure information. In particular, autoencoder (AE)-based architectures are elaborately designed to solve blind unmixing and model complex nonlinear mixtures. Nevertheless, these methods perform unmixing task as black boxes and lack interpretability. On the other hand, conventional unmixing methods carefully design the regularizer to add explicit information, in which algorithms such as plug-and-play (PnP) strategies utilize off-the-shelf denoisers to plug powerful priors. In this article, we propose a generic unmixing framework to integrate the AE network with regularization by denoising (RED), named AE-RED. More specifically, we decompose the unmixing optimized problem into two subproblems. The first one is solved using deep AEs to implicitly regularize the estimates and model the mixture mechanism. The second one leverages the denoiser to bring in explicit information. In this way, both the characteristics of the deep AE-based unmixing methods and priors provided by denoisers are merged into our well-designed framework to enhance the unmixing performance. The experiment results on both synthetic and real datasets show the superiority of our proposed framework compared with state-of-the-art unmixing approaches.

In the context of multivariate curve resolution (MCR) and spectral unmixing, essential information (EI) corresponds to the most linearly dissimilar rows and/or columns of a two-way data matrix. In recent works, the assessment of EI has been revealed to be a very useful practical tool to select the most relevant spectral information before MCR analysis, key features being speed and compression ability. However, the canonical approach relies on the principal component analysis to evaluate the convex hull that encapsulates the data structure in the normalized score space. This implies that the evaluation of the essentiality of each spectrum can only be achieved after all the spectra have been acquired by the instrument. This paper proposes a new approach to extract EI in the Fourier domain (EIFD). Spectral information is transformed into Fourier coefficients, and EI is assessed from a convex hull analysis of the data point cloud in the 2D phasor plots of a few selected harmonics. Because the coordinate system of a phasor plot does not depend on the data themselves, the evaluation of the essentiality of the information carried by each spectrum can be achieved individually and independently from the others. As a result, time-consuming operations like Raman spectral imaging can be significantly accelerated exploiting a chemometric-driven (i.e., based on the EI content of a spectral pixel) procedure for data acquisition and targeted sampling. The usefulness of EIFD is shown by analyzing Raman hyperspectral microimaging data, demonstrating a potential 50-fold acceleration of Raman acquisition.

In this letter we consider the problem of linear unmixing hidden random variables defined over the simplex with additive Gaussian noise, also known as probabilistic simplex component analysis (PRISM). Previous solutions to tackle this challenging problem were based on geometrical approaches or computationally intensive variational methods. In contrast, we propose a conventional expectation maximization (EM) algorithm which embeds importance sampling. For this purpose, the proposal distribution is chosen as a simple surrogate distribution of the target posterior that is guaranteed to lie in the simplex. It is based on fitting the Dirichlet parameters to the linear minimum mean squared error (LMMSE) approximation, which is accurate at high signal-to-noise ratio. Numerical experiments in different settings demonstrate the advantages of this adaptive surrogate over state-of-the-art methods.

This paper addresses the problem of joint image reconstruction and point spread function PSF) estimation when the PSF of the imaging device is only partially known. To solve this semi-blind deconvolution problem, prior distributions are specified for the PSF and the 3D image. Joint image reconstruction and PSF estimation is then performed within a Bayesian framework, using a variational algorithm to estimate the posterior distribution. The image prior distribution imposes an explicit atomic measure that corresponds to image sparsity. Simulation results demonstrate that the semi-blind deconvolution algorithm compares favorably with previous Markov chain Monte Carlo MCMC) version of myopic sparse reconstruction. It also outperforms non-myopic algorithms that rely on perfect knowledge of the PSF. The algorithm is illustrated on real data from magnetic resonance force microscopy MRFM).

We propose a solution to the image deconvolution problem where the convolution operator or point spread function (PSF) is assumed to be only partially known. Small perturbations generated from the model are exploited to produce a few principal components explaining the uncertainty in a high dimensional space. Specifically, we assume the image is sparse corresponding to the natural sparsity of magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM). Our approach adopts a Bayesian Metropolis-within-Gibbs sampling framework. The performance of our Bayesian myopic algorithm is superior to previously proposed algorithms such as the alternating minimization (AM) algorithm for sparse images. We illustrate our myopic algorithm on real MRFM tobacco virus data.
