Beneficial interactions of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AM Fungi) are vital to keep agriculture sustainable. The present study involves the isolation of Acinetobacter juniiand the extraction of spores of Rhizophagus intraradicesand R. fasciculatusfrom the rhizospheric region of Solanum lycopersicumand Capsicum annuumplants. Dual inoculation resulted in growth promotional aspects such as on the fruit yield (1.98 kg plant−1), increased biomass (30.36 g tomato; 10.67 g bell pepper), ≅93 % root colonization, phosphate accumulation in shoots (2.06 mg mL−1tomato; 2.26 mg mL−1bell pepper), number of spores (238 tomato, 242 bell pepper), and glomalin, a soil-related protein (16.75 mg mL−1tomato; 18.09 mg mL−1bell pepper) in both the plants.

Tobacco habits in India are unique and vary in different regions. Few studies, and none from central India, have reported on type of tobacco used and risk of the most common cancer types in India. We conducted a population-based case-control study to evaluate the risk of tobacco particularly bidi smoking and tobacco quid chewing on the most common cancer sites among males in Bhopal.

The Pseudomonas aeruginosa capsule, composed of polysaccharide alginate, is an important Pseudomonas virulence factor encountered primarily in cystic fibrosis. The regulatory algR gene positively controls transcription of a key alginate biosynthetic gene, algD. The algR gene was subcloned and sequenced by creating a set of nested deletions in M13 bacteriophage. DNA sequence analysis of algR revealed the homology of its gene product with a recently recognized class of environmentally responsive bacterial regulatory genes, including ompR, phoB, sfrA, ntrC, spoOA, dctD, and virG; these transcriptional activators control cellular reactions to osmotic pressure, phosphate limitations, or specific chemical compounds present in the medium or released from wounded host tissue. These findings indicate that novel conditions in lungs affected by cystic fibrosis may be participating in the control of mucoidy.

The effects of morphine and verapamil have been assessed on the gastrointestinal propulsion of charcoal meal and egg yolk-induced gall bladder emptying in mice. Each drug significantly inhibited these functions. In combination, an additive effect was seen on the inhibition of gastrointestinal transit, whilst verapamil potentiated the morphine-induced inhibition of gall bladder emptying. It is concluded that calcium ion channel antagonists may potentiate the activity of opiate drugs.

Performance of a 6/4 GHz frequency convertor showed conversion gains up to 4.7 dB with 3.9 dB noise figure. On cooling to 200 K, a gain increase of 2.4 dB and a noise-figure decrease of 1.8 dB were measured.
