Tuned liquid dampers (TLDs) have been broadly applied to suppress structural vibrations. In the present study, a novel vibration mitigation device consisting of non-Newtonian fluids coupled with an elastic baffle is proposed. The fluid-structure interaction is studied numerically. To optimize the system, different fluids, including the Bingham fluid, the Pseudoplastic fluid, and the Dilatant fluid are used as the damping fluids and the vibration suppression ability of each fluid is studied. Moreover, the energy dissipation mechanisms of different liquids are obtained. The results show that the optimal vibration suppression in the container without a baffle can be achieved by using the Bingham fluid. In this case, the average amplitude decay rate of the container is 12.662% with about 0.199% improvement in the damping ratio when compared to water. In the container with an elastic baffle, however, both the Pseudoplastic fluid and the Dilatant fluid outperform water in the damping capacity. The average amplitude decay rates of these fluids are 50.960% and 43.794%, respectively. Moreover, their damping ratios are 0.035% and 0.019% higher than that of water, respectively. The aerodynamic noise from the new high-speed Maglev train (NHMT) is significant. One way to reduce it is to use a fully enclosed sound barrier (FESB). This paper studies the aerodynamic noise characteristics of the NHMT operating inside a FESB at 600 km/h, taking into account the compressibility of air and the quadrupole sound sources. The transient flow field around the NHMT is simulated by adopting an improved delayed detached-eddy simulation. According to Lighthill acoustic analogy theory, the aerodynamic noise inside and outside the FESB can be simulated using the acoustic finite element method. The sound insertion loss (IL) of the FESB is analyzed by comparing the noise outside the FESB with the noise generated by the NHMT operating on open tracks. The results indicate that the noise is distributed in the streamlined shoulder area of the head and tail car and the wake. The far-field noise belongs to broadband noise, and the noise outside the FESB is similar to an incoherent line source. The IL of the FESB is 25.2 dB(A) at 25 m from the track centerline and 3.5 m above the track surface. Therefore, the noise reduction effect of a FESB is much better than a traditional upright sound barrier. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The hybrid substrate (organic interposer + build-up package substrate + solder joints + underfill) of multiple systems and heterogeneous integration is investigated. The organic interposer of the hybrid substrate is fabricated by a fan-out chip-last on a temporary panel with two different kinds of dielectric materials, namely, the photo-imageable dielectric and the Ajinomoto Build-Up Film. These two hybrid substrates are supporting two different chips. The flatness of metal lines of the redistribution-layers, the quality of the hybrid substrate after chip-to-hybrid substrate bonding, and the reliability of the solder joints between these two hybrid substrates will be discussed.

- Abstract
There are potential concerns related to bleeding caused by oral anticoagulants, especially in the elderly. Andexanet alfa has been authorized for use to reverse the effects of oral anticoagulants. Off-label use of four factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC) for the reversal of oral factor Xa inhibitors is common. However, not much is known about their efficacy and safety profile. The intent of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 4F-PCC and andexanet alfa for management of major bleeding due to oral factor Xa inhibitors. Comprehensive searches were done systematically through PubMed, Scopus and Google scholar databases. Studies that were retrospective record based or adopted prospective cohort approach and reported either of the three main outcomes, i.e., achieved hemostasis rate or rate of thrombotic events or mortality rate were included in the meta-analysis. Statistical analyses were done using STATA version 13.0. A total of 22 studies were included in the meta-analysis. All the studies had a single arm with no control/comparator group. The pooled rate of good to excellent hemostatic control upon use of andexanet was 80% (95% CI; 72% to 88%) and for 4F-PCC, it was 76% (95% CI; 70% to 83%). A comparatively higher pooled rate of thrombotic complications upon use of andexanet [13% (95% CI; 5% to 20%) was noted, compared to use of aPCC/4F-PCC [4% (95% CI; 3% to 5%). The pooled all-cause mortality rate within 30 days of administration was 24% (95% CI; 12% to 35%) with andexanet use and 19% (95% CI; 14% to 25%) for aPCC/4F-PCC. The findings suggest that use of both andexanet and aPCC/4F-PCC achieves a good hemostasis but there is an associated risk of thrombotic events and mortality. Future studies should have a control group to better establish evidence on efficacy and safety of these agents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Traditional anti-cancer treatments are far from satisfactory. There is an urgent to combine new therapeutics with traditional treatments to improve anti-cancer effectiveness. Ferroptosis is a new type of iron dependent non-apoptotic cell death could still offer benefits to patients who failed in apoptosis and necroptosis induction treatment. Iron plays a vital role during ferroptosis induction. While iron is a double-edged sword in cancer treatment, tumor specific distribution of iron is especially important. Nanotechnology is an efficient way to help drugs targeting distribution. We intended to review the latest progress in ferroptosis and iron based nanotherapeutics. First, the relationship between ferroptosis and iron metabolism was reviewed briefly to demonstrate the central role of iron in ferroptosis induction. Second, the latest progress of iron-based nanotechnology was presented and discussed according to the different designs. Finally, the future expectations of iron based nanotherapeutics for ferroptosis were spotlighted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: Glioma is one of the most common and invasive brain tumors worldwide. Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) play an important role in the development of glioma. However, the regulatory mechanism of LncRNAs in glioma has not been fully elucidated. This study aimed to explore the interaction of lncRNA maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) and aberrant histone modification in glioma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The expression levels of MEG3 and miR-21-3p in glioma cells were measured by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). EZH2 (enhancer of zeste homolog 2) and H3K27me3 expression in glioma cells were detected by Western Blot (WB). The binding site of the promoter of MEG3 by H3K27me3 was confirmed by ChIP-Real-time PCR. The direct target of MEG3 and miR-21-3p in glioma cells was measured by a luciferase reporter assay. Cell proliferation was detected by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8), and cell invasion and migration were measured by Transwell assays. RESULTS: EZH2 and miR-21-3p were upregulated and MEG3 was downregulated in glioma cells. Silencing of EZH2 inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in U87 and U251 cells. Meanwhile, the expression of H3K27me3 could be significantly inhibited by EZH2 interference. H3K27me3 protein can bind to MEG3 promoter directly. EZH2 inhibition and MEG3 down-expression in U87 cells reversed the effects of silencing of EZH2 on glioma cell growth and metastasis. However, EZH2 inhibition and MEG3 overexpression in U251 cells restricted cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Furthermore, miR-21-3p was verified to interact with MEG3 by direct binding. Inhibition of MEG3 promoted U87 cell growth and metastasis, which was further strengthened following the co-transfection of si-MEG3 and miR-21-3p. Overexpressed MEG3 inhibited U251 cell growth and metastasis and a complete reversal of the results observed in the co-transfection of LV-MEG3 and miR-21-3p. CONCLUSIONS: EZH2 was highly expressed in glioma cells and EZH2-mediated H3K27me3 enrichment on the MEG3 promoter regulated the growth and metastasis of glioma cells by targeting miR-21-3p. It potentially provided a new therapeutic marker targeting glioma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To study the mechanism of micro ribonucleic acid (miR)-140-3p participating in the regulation of fracture healing in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 50 male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into five groups, namely, group A [phosphate-buffered saline (PBS)] (n=10), group B (miR-140-3p mimics) (n=10), group C [ mimics negative control (NC)] (n=10), group D [antisense oligonucleotide (ASO)-miR-140-3p] (n=10), and group E (ASO NC) (n=10). A rat model of fracture was established on all the rats through the operation. From the successful establishment of the model, the rats in group A were intraperitoneally injected with 50 μL PBS (2 nmol) once a week for 6 weeks, and those in group B, C, D, and E were injected with equivalent volume of miR-140-3p mimics, mimics NC, ASO-miR-140-3p, and ASO NC, respectively, once a week since the successful establishment of model for 6 weeks. The fracture healing in the rats was evaluated via imaging. Meanwhile, Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) was applied to detect the expression of miR-140-3p in the five groups. Wnt and β-catenin expressions in the five groups were detected by means of Western blotting (WB). Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and its quantized statistical value in the five groups were detected through immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS: The expression of miR-140-3p was stimulated in miR-140-3p mimics group and inhibited in ASO-miR-140-3p group. The detection of the miR-140-3p expression level in the five groups via RT-PCR showed that miR-140-3p mimics group had a remarkably higher miR-140-3p expression than the other four groups. The differences were statistically significant (p<0.05). The WB assay verified that the Wnt and β-catenin expressions in miR-140-3p mimics group were notably higher than those in control groups, and there were statistically significant differences (p<0.05). Compared with those in the groups injected with PBS, ASO miR-140-3p, mimics NC, and ASO NC, there were evidently more callus tissues, better healed and more blurred fracture lines, as well as no translocation and looseness of internal fixation, in the group injected with miR-140-3p mimics, suggesting that the stimulation of the miR-140-3p expression promotes the fracture healing in the rats. The results of immunohistochemical staining indicated that the number of ALP-positive osteoblasts in the rats in miR-140-3p mimics group was increased markedly in comparison with that in the remaining groups (p<0.05), implying that the differentiation of osteoblasts in the rats was affected in miR-140-3p mimics group. CONCLUSIONS: The overexpressed miR-140-3p in the rats with fracture can promote fracture healing by activating the Wnt signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: The incidence of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD) in hospitalized children and adolescents has been increasing year-on-year. Paediatric CDAD places a significant economic burden on healthcare systems. Probiotics are live organisms thought to improve the microbial balance of the host, counteract disturbances in intestinal flora, and reduce the risk of colonization by pathogenic bacteria.Aim: A cost-effectiveness analysis was conducted to assess the economy of probiotics for the prevention of CDAD in children and adolescents receiving antibiotics. Methods: A decision tree model combining clinical effectiveness, utility and cost data was used. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to determine the robustness of the model outcomes.Finding: The 'oral probiotics' strategy and 'no probiotics' strategy offered patients 0.05876 and 0.056 quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) at a cost of $16,668.70 and $20,355.28, respectively. The oral probiotics strategy exhibited higher QALY and lower cost, and represents the cost-saving strategy. The results were robust for sensitivity analyses. Conclusion: From the perspective of the medical system, oral probiotics as a preventive strategy for CDAD in hospitalized children and adolescents receiving a therapeutic course of antibiotics reduced the risk of CDAD and represents a cost-saving strategy. MALOCCLUSION ,VISUAL perception ,ORTHOGNATHIC surgery - Abstract
The purpose of the study is to explore the critical parameters determining the visual perception of postoperative facial symmetry. This study retrospectively included 24 patients with skeletal class III malocclusion and double-jaw orthognathic surgery (OgS). The patients were classified according to the outcome of subjective visual perception scores (SVPS) based on the postoperative frontal images by 10 orthodontists: symmetrical surgical outcome (S group, n = 12) and facial asymmetry after surgery (A group, n = 12). The 3D dentofacial measurements from cone beam computed tomography, were compared between the S and A groups. The relationship of all variables in all patients with the SVPS was explored by Spearman correlation coefficient. Significant differences were observed in the midline parameters in the mandible, the B point, gnathion and menton, and the mandibular border axis as well as in the discrepancy of the chin morphology between the two groups ( P < 0.05). The findings demonstrated that the midline parameter deviation, shape of the mandibular border, and the contour of menton morphology play the major role in the visual perceptions of postoperative asymmetry. - Abstract
This paper reports the fabrication of double-sided micro-lens arrays using a UV injection molding process. The apparatus for UV injection molding is designed and implemented. Because the double-sided micro-lens array is fabricated using a UV-curable resin, the molds must be transparent. An alignment system is also required to align the cavities. In preparing the transparent molds, the cavities for the concave micro-lens and the alignment marks are first machined on the aluminum block. Using electroforming and hot embossing, transparent polycarbonate (PC) molds that have cavities for the MLAs and the alignment marks are fabricated. The PC molds are mounted on the UV injection molding apparatus using a pneumatic clamp. A real-time optical alignment system that comprises a CCD and an X-Y table is used to align the marks in the upper and lower molds. After alignment, the UV-curable resin is injected into the molds using a pneumatic dispenser. When the resin is cured with UV light, a double-sided micro-lens array is fabricated. The cycle time is 45 s. The respective degrees of replication for a convex and a concave micro-lens array are 99.74 % and 99.00 %. The respective standard deviation values for the diameter and the height are 1.3 µm, and 1.5 µm. The optical properties of the double-sided micro-lens array are measured. The average effective focal length is 1.686 mm, with a standard deviation of 0.007 mm, which demonstrates good formability and uniformity. Using the fabricated micro-lens array, the 1.2 mm diameter of the original light source is reduced to a 50 µm spot diameter. The images of an “A” pattern are complete and clear. This study demonstrates that a UV injection molding process that uses transparent PC molds can be used to fabricate a micro-lens array and other double-sided microstructures.

- Abstract
About 140 countries have announced or are considering net zero targets. To explore the implications of such targets, we apply an integrated earth system–economic model to investigate illustrative net zero emissions scenarios. Given the technologies as characterized in our modeling framework, we find that with net zero targets afforestation in earlier years and biomass energy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) technology in later years are important negative emissions technologies, allowing continued emissions from hard-to-reduce sectors and sources. With the entire world achieving net zero by 2050 a very rapid scale-up of BECCS is required, increasing mitigation costs through mid-century substantially, compared with a scenario where some countries achieve net zero by 2050 while others continue some emissions in the latter half of the century. The scenarios slightly overshoot 1.5∘C at mid-century but are at or below 1.5∘C by 2100 with median climate response. Accounting for climate uncertainty, global achievement of net zero by 2050 essentially guarantees that the 1.5∘C target will be achieved, compared to having a 50–50 chance in the scenario without net zero. This indicates a tradeoff between policy costs and likelihood of achieving 1.5∘C.

- Abstract
Isoprene, a dominant biogenic volatile organic compound that is mainly emitted by trees, has a significant impact on the atmospheric chemistry. Regional to global changes in biogenic isoprene emission associated with vegetation variations between 2000 and 2015 were estimated using the MEGAN model with satellite land cover data for inputs in this study. The satellite data estimates of land cover changes were compared to results from previous investigators that have either conducted regional studies or have used lower resolution land cover data. The analysis indicates that tree coverage increases of >5% occurred in 13% of locations including in central China and Europe. In contrast, a decrease of >5% was observed in about 5% of locations, especially in tropical regions. The trends in global tree coverage from 2000 to 2015 resulted in a global isoprene emission decrease of only 1.5%, but there were significant regional variations. Obvious decreases in tree coverage in some tropical areas (e.g., Amazon Basin, Western Africa, Southeast Asia) resulted in a ~10% reduction of regional isoprene emission due to agricultural expansion. Distinct increments of isoprene emission (5–10%) were mainly found in Northeast China and India and were associated with afforestation efforts. Deforestation and afforestation associated with managed plantations does not only affect the total forest coverage but also impacts average isoprene emission capacity, which can result in accelerated isoprene emission variations. Consequently, isoprene variation assessments are needed that not only account for changes in vegetation fractions but also consider the changes in plant species compositions of forests and other landscapes. Variations of global tree coverage during 2000 and 2015 results in a global total isoprene emission decrease of only 1.5%Significant decrease of tree coverage in some tropical areas results in a ~10% reduction of regional isoprene emissionDeforestation and afforestation associated with economic plantations does not only affect the total forest coverage, but also impacts the average isoprene emission capacity, which can result in accelerated isoprene emission variations

- Abstract
We conducted a retrospective analysis to evaluate outcomes of haploidentical transplantation in adult severe aplastic anaemia (SAA) patients. Fifty-one adults received haploidentical transplantation between May 2011 and December 2016. Patients were administered busulfan (Bu), cyclophosphamide (Cy) and anti-thymoglobulin (ATG) as conditioning regimens, followed by bone marrow and peripheral blood transplantation. The patients’ median age was 25 years. Forty-nine patients survived for more than 28 days and all achieved donor myeloid engraftment. The median time for myeloid engraftment and platelet recovery was 13 days (range, 10–21) and 17.5 (range, 7–101) days. The cumulative incidence (CI) of grade II–IV and III–IV acute GvHD) was 20.00±0.33% and 6.00±0.12%, respectively. The incidence of chronic GvHD was 14.00±0.36% and 25.90±0.71%, and that of moderate-severe chronic GvHD was 2.51±0.06% and 6.92±0.25% at 1 and 3 years, respectively. The 3-year estimated overall survival and failure-free survival were both 83.5±5.4% with a median follow-up of 21.1 months. Multivariate analysis showed hematopoietic cell transplantation-specific comorbidity index (HCT-CI) score of ⩾3 was significantly associated with worse outcome. Haploidentical transplantation conditioning including Bu/Cy/ATG was a safe and effective strategy for adult SAA patients, and HCT-CI might be an outcome predictor in these patients.

- Abstract
Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is characterized by a high tillering capacity and disadvantageous spatial structures, which may result in intraspecific competition. This study aimed to determine whether tiller productivity, radiation use efficiency (RUE), and grain yield of winter wheat could be manipulated through irrigation and precision planting patterns in North China. The experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 2011/2012, 2012/2013, and 2013/2014 at Tai'an, Shandong Province, China. The field experiment was based on a two-factor split-plot design with three replications under the same plant density (200 × 10
4 ha-1 ). Three irrigation levels (0, 90, and 180 mm) were allocated to main plots, and three planting patterns namely single–single (SS), single–double (SD), and double–double (DD) were kept in subplots. Irrigation amount 0, 30, 60 mm of water were applied at GS34, GS48, and GS70, respectively. Results showed that photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) capture ratio of 0 mm was higher than that of the 90-mm irrigation at 0 to 40 cm, but irrigation increased the total PAR capture ratio, leaf area index (LAI), RUE, and grain yield. The interaction of irrigation × planting pattern indicated that the grain yield of SD was high under 180-mm irrigation and that of DD was high under 0- and 90-mm irrigations. Leaf area index, PAR capture ratio, and RUE of DD were higher than those of SD under 90-mm irrigation. The application of DD planting pattern combined with 90-mm irrigation resulted in positive response to yield. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Objective: To determine the effects of proteasome inhibitor MG-132 on mice with inflammatory reaction to acute viral myocarditis induced by coxsackie virus B3 virus (CVB3) infection. Methods: BALB/C mice were intraperitoneally inoculated with CVB3 to induce myocarditis. Twenty four hours after the infection, MG-132 was administered at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg or 1 mg/kg for seven days by intraperitoneal injection. Normal controls were treated with the same volume of DMSO. The changes of myocardial ultrastructure, the protein levels of IL-6 and TNF-α, the number of polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMN) and survival rate of each group were documented. Results: Compared with the normal group, the protein levels of IL-6 and TNF-α, and the number of PMN were significantly increased in the CVB3 group (p < 0.05). The cardiocytes were diffusely swollen. The myofilament was lysed, and the mitochondria swelled and vacuolizated. The above-mentioned inflammatory factors of MG-132 groups were significantly decreased when compared with the CVB3 group (p < 0.05). The degree of the damage of the cardiocytes in the MG-132 group was less and the mortality due to deadly arrhythmia was lower than that in the CVB3 group. Conclusion: The results showed that MG-132 protected the mice from CVB3-induced acute viral myocarditis by suppressing the expressions of the inflammatory factors. Our research provides further evidence that the ubiquitin-proteasome system is a potential target therapy for viral myocarditis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: To examine the skin whitening capabilities of shikimic acid pathway compounds and find the most effective molecule to be used as the active ingredient for skin whitening products. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Skin whitening is the practice of using chemical substances to lighten skin tone by the lessening the concentration of melanin. The whitening efficacy of shikimic acid pathway compounds was evaluated. Eight compounds in the shikimic acid pathway were chosen for this study: benzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, quinic acid, shikimic acid, orcinol monohydrate, and phenyl pyruvic acid. We measured the tyrosinase inhibitory capacity of the compounds in the animal model of zebrafish and also evaluated the compounds' anti-oxidant activities using the DPPH radical scavenging, and ABTS+ free radical scavenging tests. Compounds' cytotoxicity effects were also evaluated. RESULTS: Amongst eight shikimic acid pathway compounds used in this study, shikimic acid was the most potent tyrosinase-inhibitor and the most efficient compound to be used as an active ingredient for skin whitening. Shikimic acid revealed a good radical scavenging activity (RAS) with low cell toxicity. CONCLUSIONS: Promising results obtained in this study may open a new window of opportunity to introduce another compound to be used in the skin-whiting cosmetics industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to investigate the acute changes in the mitochondrial proteome in response to insulin stimulation. Methods and Results: Cardiac mitochondria from C57BL/6 mice after insulin stimulation were analyzed using two-dimensional fluorescence difference gel electrophoresis. MALDI-TOF MS/MS was utilized to identify differences. Two enzymes involved in metabolism and four structural proteins were identified. Succinyl-CoA ligase [ADP forming] subunit beta was identified as one of the differentially regulated proteins. Upon insulin stimulation, a relatively more acidic isoform of this protein was increased by 53% and its functional activity was decreased by ∼32%.Conclusions: This proteomic remodeling in response to insulin stimulation may play an important role in the normal and diabetic heart. - Abstract
Techniques for haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) to treat severe aplastic anemia (SAA) have recently improved, but no protocol has been evaluated in a large number of pediatric patients. Fifty-two children with SAA received haplo-HSCT in our center. The treatment protocol used G-CSF-primed bone marrow with G-CSF-mobilized PBSCs without in vitroT-cell depletion. The conditioning regimen included busulfan/cyclophosphamide and antithymocyte globulin. Fifty-one patients achieved primary engraftment; one child died of regimen-related toxicity on the day +1. Secondary graft failure occurred in three patients. The cumulative incidences of aGVHD grade II–IV and grade III–IV were 39.2±0.5 and 13.7±0.2%, respectively. The cumulative incidence of cGVHD was 34.2±0.5%. The 3-year overall and failure-free survival rates were 84.5±5.0 and 82.7±5.2%, respectively, with a median follow-up time of 744.5 days (100–3294) for surviving patients. The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score was the only predictor of overall and failure-free survival rates. Clinical outcomes were similar between the upfront and salvage group. This result suggests that both newly diagnosed and refractory pediatric SAA patients benefit from haplo-HSCT, especially when patients are in good general condition. Therefore, haplo-HSCT might be an alternative therapy for pediatric SAA patients without HLA-matched sibling donors.

- Abstract
We investigated the impact of donor type on post-relapse survival (PRS) in 85 patients with hematological relapse after their first allogeneic hematological stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for hematological malignancy. The median follow-up was 64 months among survivors. Both 3-year overall survival and 3-year PRS were similar in haploidentical donor (HID) and matched sibling donor (MRD) transplantation (13.0%±4.7% vs 19.4%±7.1%, P=0.913 and 7.7±3.9% vs 9.7±5.3%, P= 0.667). Higher rates of post-relapse grade II–IV and III–IV acute GvHD (aGvHD) were observed in HID transplantation patients. A higher cumulative incidence of post-relapse extensive chronic GvHD was also observed for HID transplantation patients. Multivariate analyses confirmed that treatment including donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI), late relapse >1 year, and in first CR at transplantation were associated with superior PRS (P=0.012, hazard ratio (HR)=0.527 (0.320−0.866)); P=0.033, HR=0.534 (0.300−0.952) and P=0.046, HR=0.630 (0.400−0.992). The data suggest that post-relapse outcomes are comparable in HID and MRD transplantation, and that DLI is safe for relapsed patients after haploidentical transplantation.

- Abstract
A novel polymethylmethacrylate-based microfluidic structure formed with a gold film on an anodic aluminium oxide membrane has developed for enhancing chemiluminescence reaction. The gold as catalytic membrane deposited on the nanoporous anodic aluminium oxide template on microfluidic reservoirs. Experimental results were obtained from the reaction of luminol-H
2 O2 chemiluminescence system. The specific Au-anodic aluminium oxide structures were grown with optimal pore diameters and aspect ratio that chemiluminescence intensity was enhanced about 185%. The higher anodic aluminium oxide aspect ratio provides, the higher porosity and reaction area get. The nanoporous Au-anodic aluminium oxide-microfluidic disc has potential approach of cost and function for biochemical measurement and application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

In recent years, increasingly worthy content and reliable information have been disseminated on blogs. This means that readers are accustomed to searching information from blogs. However, the number of blogs has increased tremendously, so it is difficult to identify related information in the enormous number of existing articles. In general, the keyword is used as the basic method for readers to filter unimportant information via search engines. Keywords can be seen as reflecting the essence of an article. That is, a full-length article can be referenced through several keywords. As a result, if the keywords chosen for an article are accurate, the users' intentions will be satisfied. Therefore, the methods for selecting accurate keywords are critical. One general approach generates keywords by applying full-text keywords retrieval process, but it is a time-consuming process for handling the enormous number of articles. In this paper, to save time in generating keywords via full-text keywords retrieval process, a system called Blog Connect is proposed to embed the tracing code for selecting queried keywords as keyword candidates. Experiments provided positive data to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The accurate simulation of additional interactions at the ATLAS experiment for the analysis of proton–proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider presents a significant challenge to the computing resources. During the LHC Run 2 (2015–2018), there were up to 70 inelastic interactions per bunch crossing, which need to be accounted for in Monte Carlo (MC) production. In this document, a new method to account for these additional interactions in the simulation chain is described. Instead of sampling the inelastic interactions and adding their energy deposits to a hard-scatter interaction one-by-one, the inelastic interactions are presampled, independent of the hard scatter, and stored as combined events. Consequently, for each hard-scatter interaction, only one such presampled event needs to be added as part of the simulation chain. For the Run 2 simulation chain, with an average of 35 interactions per bunch crossing, this new method provides a substantial reduction in MC production CPU needs of around 20%, while reproducing the properties of the reconstructed quantities relevant for physics analyses with good accuracy.

- Abstract
The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has a broad physics programme ranging from precision measurements to direct searches for new particles and new interactions, requiring ever larger and ever more accurate datasets of simulated Monte Carlo events. Detector simulation with Geant4is accurate but requires significant CPU resources. Over the past decade, ATLAS has developed and utilized tools that replace the most CPU-intensive component of the simulation—the calorimeter shower simulation—with faster simulation methods. Here, AtlFast3, the next generation of high-accuracy fast simulation in ATLAS, is introduced. AtlFast3 combines parameterized approaches with machine-learning techniques and is deployed to meet current and future computing challenges, and simulation needs of the ATLAS experiment. With highly accurate performance and significantly improved modelling of substructure within jets, AtlFast3 can simulate large numbers of events for a wide range of physics processes.

- Abstract
Heat generation is one of the significant problems in piezoelectrics for high power density applications. In this paper, we review the loss mechanisms in piezoelectrics first, followed by the heat generation processes for various drive conditions. Heat generation at off-resonance is caused mainly by dielectric loss tan δ′ (i.e., P-E hysteresis loss), not by mechanical loss, while the heat generation at resonance is mainly attributed to mechanical loss tan ′. Then, practical high power materials developed at Penn State is introduced, which exhibit the vibration velocity more than 1 m/s, leading to the power density capability 10 times of the commercially available "hard" PZTs. We propose a internal bias field model to explain the low loss and high power origin of these materials. Finally, using a low temperature sinterable "hard" PZT, we demonstrated a high power multilayer piezoelectric transformers [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper addresses an integrated information mining techniques for multimedia TV-news archive. The utilizes techniques from the fields of acoustic, image, and video analysis, for information retrieval on news story title, newsman and scene identification. The goal is to construct a compact yet meaningful abstraction of broadcast news video, allowing users to browse through large amounts of data in a non-linear fashion with flexibility and efficiency. By using acoustic analysis, the system can classify video into news versus commercials, with 90% accuracy on a data set of 400 hours TV-news recorded off the air from July 2003 to August of 2004. By applying speaker identification and/or image detection techniques, each news stories can be segmented with an accuracy of 96%. On screen captions or subtitles are recognized by OCR techniques to produce the text title of each news stories. The extracted title words can be used to link or to navigate more related News contents on the WWW. In cooperation with facial and scene analysis and recognition techniques, OCR results can provide users with multimodality query for specific news stories. Some experimental results are presented and discussed for the system reliability and performance evaluation and comparison. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Winter wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) is characterized by a high tillering capacity and disadvantageous spatial structures, which may result in intraspecific competition. The field experiment was based on a two‐factor split‐plot design with three replications under the same plant density (200 × 104ha−1). Results showed that photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) capture ratio of 0 mm was higher than that of the 90‐mm irrigation at 0 to 40 cm, but irrigation increased the total PAR capture ratio, leaf area index (LAI), RUE, and grain yield. The interaction of irrigation × planting pattern indicated that the grain yield of SD was high under 180‐mm irrigation and that of DD was high under 0‐ and 90‐mm irrigations. Leaf area index, PAR capture ratio, and RUE of DD were higher than those of SD under 90‐mm irrigation. The application of DD planting pattern combined with 90‐mm irrigation resulted in positive response to yield. - Abstract
The physical processes associated with propagation of a high-power laser beam in a dielectric include self-focusing, stimulated Raman scattering, stimulated Brillouin scattering, thermal blooming, and multiphoton and collisional ionization. The interplay between these processes is analyzed using a reduced model consisting of a few differential equations that can be readily solved, enabling rapid variation of parameters and the development of theoretical results for guiding new experiments. The presentation in this paper is limited to propagation of the pump, the Stokes Raman, and the Brillouin pulses, ignoring the anti-Stokes Raman. Consistent with experimental results in the literature, it is found that self-focusing has a dramatic effect on the propagation of high-power laser beams in water. A significant portion of the pump laser energy is transferred to Stokes Raman forward scatter along with a smaller portion to Brillouin backscatter.

- Abstract
We report on the design and experimental demonstration of an electro-optically tunable, pulsed intracavity optical parametric oscillator (IOPO) based on a unique fan-out double-prism domain periodically poled lithium niobate (DPD PPLN) in a diode-pumped Nd:YVO_4 laser. The PPLN device combines the functionalities of fan-out and ramped duty-cycle domain structured nonlinear crystals, working simultaneously as a continuous grating-period quasi-phase-matched optical parametric downconverter and an electro-optic beam deflector/Q switch in the laser system. When driving the fan-out DPD PPLN with a voltage pulse train and varying the DC offset of the pulse train, a pulsed IOPO was realized with its signal and idler being electro-optically tunable over the 1880 and 2453 nm bands at spectral tuning rates of 13.5 (measured) and 25.8 (calculated) nm/(kV/mm), respectively.

- Abstract
The modified nanoporous membranes on centrifugal microfluidic platforms are developed for detecting heavy metal ions with high selectivity. The nanomaterials of polyrhodanine, activated alumina and activated carbon are deposited on nanoporous anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) membranes for enhancing filtration to remove ions of lead (Pb(II)), arsenic (As(III)) and cadmium (Cd(II)) from aqueous solution. By detecting chemiluminescence (CL) reaction, the concentrations of heavy metal ions can be obtained. A pneumatic-and-centrifugal microfluidic detection system was used to perform microfluid separation and CL detection for measuring selected ions concentration. The removal efficiency of 92, 82 and 78% were observed for Pb(II), As(III) and Cd(II) ions, respectively. The removal rate is performed up to 70% for mixed ions filtration by a sequence of multi-modified AAO membranes. The modified nanofiltration films on microfluid platform have potential applications in removing heavy metal ions from water, soil, food and drug. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
We report a unique, pulsed intracavity optical parametric oscillator (IOPO) whose output spectrum is electro-optically (EO) tailorable based on an aperiodically poled lithium niobate (APPLN) working simultaneously as an optical parametric gain medium and an active gain spectrum filter in the system. We have successfully obtained from the IOPO the emission of single to multiple narrow-line signal spectral peaks in a near-infrared (1531 nm) band simply by electro-optic control. The power spectral density of the EO tailored signal can be enhanced by up to 10 times over the original (nontailored) signal.

- Abstract
Preformed plasma channels with parabolic radial density profiles enable the extended and stable optical guiding of high-intensity laser pulses. High-voltage discharge capillaries, commonly used for channel formation, have limited guiding length and opaque walls, complicating the diagnosis of the plasma within. This paper proposes a free-space gas channel produced by the collision of several gas flows. The collision of the gas flows forms an on-axis density depression surrounded by higher density walls. By offsetting the flows, we demonstrated the creation of what we believe is a novel vortex structure that exhibits a long-lived parabolic density profile. Once ionized, the resulting plasma density profile has a near-parabolic dependence appropriate for guiding. We then performed detailed two-dimensional (2D) fluid dynamics simulations to examine the properties and stability of the guiding structure.

A structurally disordered Ho
3+ :LiGd(MoO4 )2 crystal has been grown by the Czochralski method. The absorption and emission properties have been investigated in depth to predict its potential for lasing in the visible and infrared regions. The Judd-Ofelt theory has been applied to evaluate the important optical parameters relevant for laser applications, including the phenomenological intensity parameters, radiative transition rates, branching ratios and radiative lifetimes. The prospect for the crystal as a new laser active medium has been discussed on the basis of the calculated emission cross-sections and quantum efficiencies. The results propose the possibility of the Ho3+ :LiGd(MoO4 )2 crystal for applications in the resonantly pumped 2·0 μm lasers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Shanghai Bio-engineering Co. Ltd. has synthesized the genes which resulted from the modification of porcine IFN-α gene sites based on the analysis of codon bias of P. pastoris. Results show that 100% of cell cultures presented cell lyses when cells were not pre-treated with IFN-α. It mentions the importance of rare codons in the translation rate. Up-regulation of the protein expression in P. pastoris is attributed to the modifications of codons for six amino-acids in the porcine IFN-α gene.

Abstract: In species with hemochorial placentation, such as the mouse and human, trophoblast cells of the implanting blastocyst induce apoptosis and displace endometrial epithelial cells (EEC) to cross the luminal epithelium of the endometrium. Since Fas and Fas ligand (FasL) are expressed in EEC and trophoblast cells respectively and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) mediate Fas-induced apoptosis, the roles of Fas/FasL and MAPK signaling in trophoblast-EEC interactions were studied. By co-culturing BeWo trophoblast spheroids with RL95-2 EEC monolayers to mimic blastocyst-endometrial interactions, we found that trophoblast spheroid outgrowth on EEC was significantly enhanced by anti-Fas activating antibody. Since anti-Fas activating antibody had no effect on spheroid expansion on EEC-free culture surfaces, its enhancing effect on spheroid outgrowth on EEC may be mediated by acting on EEC to facilitate trophoblast-induced EEC apoptosis and displacement. Valyl-alanyl-aspartyl-[O-methyl]-fluoromethylketone (VAD-FMK) staining showed that the percentage of apoptotic EEC at the spheroid-EEC interface was markedly increased by anti-Fas activating antibody. Moreover, the pancaspase inhibitor benzyloxycarbonyl-VAD-FMK was able to suppress the enhancing effect of anti-Fas activating antibody on spheroid expansion on EEC. Upon anti-Fas activating antibody stimulation, both p38 MAPK and c-Jun NH
2 -terminal kinase (JNK) were activated. Furthermore, the anti-Fas activating antibody-enhanced EEC apoptosis and spheroid expansion on EEC were significantly inhibited by the p38 MAPK inhibitor SB203580 and JNK inhibitor SP600125. Our results establish that anti-Fas activating antibody could activate p38 MAPK and JNK to induce EEC apoptosis, thereby promoting trophoblast outgrowth on EEC. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]- Published

A thin (30 nm) hydrogenated-amorphous-silicon (a-Si:H) layer has been introduced to dramatically suppress the dark current of SiGe/Si metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors (MSM-PDs) and enhance their photocurrent, around 850 nm wavelength. The effects of a-Si:H as a passivation and a Schottky-barrier-height (SBH) enhancement layer on reducing the dark current of SiGe/Si MSM-PDs have been studied in detail. It was found that the a-Si:H as a passivation layer could effectively suppress the dark current better than the a-Si:H as a SBH enhancement layer. Compared to uncapped samples, the samples with a-Si:H passivation layer could enhance the photo-to-dark-current ratio and responsivity by a magnitude of 1.39 × 10
6 and 21, respectively. The related mechanisms have been proposed in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The lithium-ion cell has been successively improved with adoption of new cathode electrochemistries, from LiCoO
2 to higher- capacity LiNi1-x Cox O2 to lower cost LiNi1-x Cox O2 . The addition of conductive additives to cathode materials has been demonstrated to improve each type. Four systems have emerged as important cathodes in recent studies: (i) the spinel LiMn2 O4 , (ii) LiFePO4 , (iii) the "Gen 2" material, Li(Ni0.8 Co0.15 Al0.05 )O2 , and (iv) the Li(Ni1/3 Co1/3 Mn1/3 )O2 system. The architectures of model composite cathodes were generated using our prior approach in simulating packing of polydisperse arrangements; conductivity was then simulated for several realizations of each case. A key finding was that the conductive coatings significantly improve overall conductivity. Percolation was achieved for the volume fraction of active material (≥ 30%) in studied cases, which was larger than the percolation threshold (29%) for a 3D spherical particulate system. Neither surface nor bulk modifications of active-material particle conductivities seem desirable targets for improvement of laminate conductivity at present. As part of future work, trade-offs between conductivity and capacity will be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

ONCIDIUM ,CULTIVARS ,ORCHIDS ,PHENOTYPES ,ENDONUCLEASES - Abstract
Oncidium is one of the most popular ornamental orchids. However, it is difficult to differentiate one cultivar from another based only on phenotypic traits. As Plant Breeders' Rights evolve, in particular since the advent of essential derivations, the importance of early differentiation of crop cultivars increases. In this report, AFLP markers were used, with 21 primer pair combinations, to fingerprint two cultivars from Oncidium Gower Ramsey hybrids and two cultivars from O. Sweet Sugar hybrids with the restriction endonucleases Eco RI and Mse I. A total of 1,091 AFLP bands were obtained. More polymorphic bands (209) were detected between the two hybrids than between the two cultivars of O. Gower Ramsey (25 bands), or between the two cultivars of O. Sweet Sugar (18). The most significant polymorphic AFLP bands (11) were cloned and sequenced for conversion into 12 sequence-tagged site (STS) markers. These STS markers were then applied to the identification of 49 cultivars from four Oncidium hybrids including O. Gower Ramsey, O. Sweet Sugar, O. Kaizumic Delight and O. Sharry Baby. Three STS markers (P03A, P03B and P10) were successfully identified to differentiate the three hybrids (O. Gower Ramsey, O. Sweet Sugar, and O. Sharry Baby) and three cultivars of O. Sweet Sugar ('Angel', 'Emperor' and 'Million Coin'). In conclusion, STS molecular markers, developed through AFLP fingerprinting, could prove useful to distinguish new cultivars of Oncidium orchid. Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum cv. 'A53') was transformed with a tobacco osmotin gene and a bean chitinase gene using Agrobacterium to produce germplasm with improved Fusarium wilt-resistance. Molecular characterisation by polymerase chain reaction and Southern blot hybridisation confirmed the stable integration of the transferred genes into the genome at various insertion sites. Assays of transgene expression were performed using northern blot analysis. Susceptibility tests on two generations of transgenic tomatoes showed improved resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, the fungal pathogen responsible for Fusarium wilt in tomato. This dual combination of pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins may be useful in controlling other fungal pathogens in tomato. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
