- Abstract
The advantages of powder coating techniques over traditional paint systems are reviewed with reference to Nylon 11 (Rilsan) coatings. The physical, electrical, and chemical resistance properties of such coatings are summarized, and component design for surface coating is discussed. After consideration of surface preparation requirements, the advantages of three application techniques, fluidized bed coating, electrostatic spray coating, and flame spraying, are covered, particular attention being given to flame spraying since the fact that it can be used easily on site suggests widespread future usage. A brief discussion of current industrial applications of flame sprayed nylon coatings is followed by some thoughts on the future development of the process.
